I’d travel across the universe to have a bad romance with Deborah Lippmann’s two new glitter-ific fall polishes ($18 each).
Fun, flirty, and catching more light than Vampire Edward’s bare chest in broad daylight, Bad Romance (a glittery fuchsia in a black base) and Across the Universe (a glittery blue-green in a navy base) sing siren songs of shimmery seduction LOUDER than the other Lippmann glitters I’ve tried in the past.
They owe their new singing voice to a shinier jelly base, ooh la la!
Compared to the almost matte-like finishes of Lippmann’s Ruby Red Slippers (2009) and Superstar (2008) glitter polishes, these are practically flood lights!
And I like it. 🙂 What’s glitter, after all, without the shine? It’s like toast without Nutella (or Justin Bieber without the fever).
5 Fun Facts About The Lippmann Fall 2010 Nail Polishes
- Deborah was inspired to create the celestial Across the Universe after a trip to the Hayden Planetarium at the Museum of Natural History in New York City
- TRIPPY! Deborah says she wanted every bottle of Across the Universe to contain time and space
- Models at the Lela Rose Fall 2010 New York Fashion Week show pranced down the runway wearing Across the Universe on their nails
- Bad Romance uses a sheer black base similar to 2009’s Ruby Red Slippers
- Deborah came up with the idea for Bad Romance while she was doing Lady’s Gaga’s nails for a photo shoot. She asked herself, “What would Gaga do?”
There’s so much glitter in these bottles that I’d wager a single one would to satisfy a cavalcade of club-goers, but they’re much more than mere bling. The also perform — with Lippmann’s signature durability. On top of everything else, they’re free of the formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalates still found in many nail products.
Because Bad Romance and Across the Universe join Lippmann’s permanent polish line, they should be around for a while. Unfortunately, they’re quite pricey at $18 apiece… Available now at Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus, Norstrom and online at deborahlippmann.com. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
You might like the Lippmann Bad Romance and Across the Universe nail polishes if…
- You gotta go glitter
- You like durable nail polishes and don’t mind a splurge
- You’re in the mood to party!
Project NO WAY
Project Runway fans, did you happen to catch last night’s episode?
(SPOILER ALERT!)
I’m so bummed, ladies. Did you think Casanova’s outfit was as bad as the judged did? I was hoping they’d send Ivy home instead… Her outfit did nothing for me (her model looked like the Statue of Liberty in it!), and she’s got such a bad attitude, grrr…
Ex-zaaaactly!
I’d get some seriously weird tan lines, but I’d wear Andy’s swimsuit/coverup combo in a hot second if I were taller and skinny.
Who are your fave designers on the show? Right now I’m pulling for Andy, April and Mondo.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I know a lot of people adore Lippmann’s chunky glitter, but it just doesn’t do it for me. I hate how hard it is to remove *regular* glitter — do you need a chisel for this stuff? 🙂
Heidi says
I am sooooo going to miss Casanova! And their critique that it his outfit was “senior citizen” or “old “lady?” Riiiight…. because my granny, may she RIP, rocked the off the shoulder look ALL THE TIME! NOT!
I’m pulling for Andy or Mondo.
mill says
why WOULDNT you buy these?
Agnes says
wowwww! that glitter looks amazing! i’ve never really tried chunky glitter but now i am dying to! i wonder if there are any cheaper dupes for these… with school starting again, im 100% broke 🙁
Melissa W. says
I love me some glitter polish! These are so cute. 🙂 Nicole by Opi has a polish with heart shaped glitter chunks that I really want also.
Jen says
Aaaah! Want want want! Across the Universe is gorgeous!
Mrs. Kinne says
Those polishes are fabulous!
And on “Project Runway,” I was really hoping to see Ivy go home! Her outfit was a hot mess, and she talked back to all of the judges. Plus, Casanova’s accent is so entertaining.
I’m rooting for Valerie, more for her likability than her designs.
Twetriz says
I never use much glitter on my nails but those looks so cute. I am also liking Andy on Project Runway so far.
kypris says
I love Andy’s swimsuit/coverup ensemble. Gorgeous! I don’t have much to say on the nail polishes as I don’t really wear nail polish *hides* but those are pretty trippy!

Poor Cassanova. I really hope they do something with him in the future! I cannot wait for Tim Gunn’s rundown on facebook over the decision to let Fantastico Cassanova go instead of that awful, self-absorbed Ivy.
RonyaLii says
nails are good looking , yum 🙂 how many coats you have there and was it easy to apply ? im afraid of big glitter flecks , cos theyre hard to get on nails .
Natasha says
Confession time. Whenever I go to the nail salon, I swoon over the wide variety of colors and always end up with the same thing on my fingers and haven’t changed in about five years… The classic French.
While I don’t know if I could make such a leap from French tips to glitter tips, they do look quite funky and fun.

I was saying the SAAAME thing about Casanova’s outfit. I’d totally have worn that. I didn’t think it was bad at all. Ivy’s on the other hand…I wouldn’t be caught dead in. And yes, her attitiude sucked. I totally agree with you. The nail polishes are cool, but I think the chunk would get on my nerves…I think.
Alison says
My favorites are Mondo and Valerie. I knew I would love Mondo from the first time I read his designer bio on Lifetime’s website… his style icons include David Bowie and Pee-Wee Herman! Haha!
Plus, how cute was it when Mondo and Michael C were sitting backstage with their arms around each other at the end?!
Nina says
Those polishes are sooo pretty! Even if im not exactly a nail polish girl, I am wanting `em!
Lisa S. says
I don’t really watch this show, I just follow it around the edges
I hated Aprils win, and I really liked Casanovas outfit. I really don’t think Ivy’s was that bad.
Funny thing, on the “Fugly is the New Pretty” blog they had a link to “New York Fashion” which in turn had a link to all the collections each designer who was on Project Runway had for New York’s Fashion week. Ivy had the most “Hits” and not “Misses”
I think people react to Ivy’s personality and not her clothes. Gretchen has a nice Boho vibe, but her clothes are flat out depressing. I also tend to think that people love to praise the most avant garde rather than what most people and celebrities will actually wear. Everyone speaks in disparaging tones about “commercial” But you know what? Women who can afford this stuff and are NOT looking for something for the red carpet, are not looking to put bird cages around their bodies. They want pretty, well constructed real life clothing.
The rest of us go to Old Navy, Dress Barn, and yes Walmart. Occasionally Macy’s if there is a sale. Ok, I’m off my rant!

Now about the nails. . .. .I do like to bling but at a lower price. Have you seen the LA Splash glitter nail polishes for $3.99 at ULTA? I bought 6 of them when they were buy two get one free. But my major question is how do you get that nail polish off? It just will not budge with regular remover.
Regina says
I was really sad to see Casanova go home – loved his diva personality! My favorite quote was from the other week when he was all sad and said, “I design for old ladies, sluts, and flamenco dancers, I’m even getting fat!” I didn’t think his outfit was that bad either…Ivy’s was worse and she had a bad attitude!
Kate & Zena says
I know, I gasped when Casanova was kicked off! I was on the edge of my seat waiting for Mondo to get kicked off. Blue and white striped mixed with retina searing lime floral? EWWWWWWWWWWW.
Oh God, everytime I see that polish, Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”starts playing in my head.
Lucy says
Oooh Bad Romance is beautiful! I don’t think we get Lippmann in the UK 🙁
Kim says
Sparkly! The crow in me likes these a lot. I’m usually too lazy to keep my polish looking good, though. And these are not the kind of polishes that I could keep on for a week! 🙂
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
IVY IS SO BITCHY. I can’t deal with her. She hasn’t really made anything exciting, either. I hope she goes next week. The combination of her and then Gretchen’s sociopathy makes this season really weird, lol.
Did you see the collections that walked on Thursday morning? I can’t believe how many decoys there are (everyone from Casanova and on showed). Gretchen’s wasn’t as strong as I was expecting it to be. I’m pretty sure she’s going to be in the final 3 (the judges LOVE her) but I don’t think she’s going to win the whole thing. I’m pleased, lol. I liked quite a few of the collections, but nothing quite impressed me like Seth Aaron’s or Jay’s did last season.
Who have been your favorite PR designers? 🙂
Anastasia says
JAI GURU DEEEEVAAAAA OMMMMMM! Sorry just getting into the Across the Universe mode there… LOVE that one. Lots!
Bianca says
I would try anything that will add character to my look and I think nails do a whole lot! For a while i was so afraid to try out anything remotely outrageous until I tried this! Its so nice and it also reminds me of the Lippman polishes!
