Perhaps you survived Monday without losing any teeth; maybe you made it out of the door this morning wearing two matching shoes, or you managed to avoid flashing anyone in the grocery store — no matter how small the accomplishment, I believe with the utmost conviction that a tube of pretty pink lipgloss always, ALWAYS makes a fine reward.
Allow me to introduce Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Electrify ($19). 🙂
One of 10 colors in the company’s permanent line, Electrify kisses lips with just a hint of cool baby pink color.
Unlike some sheer glosses that shall remain nameless (ahem, Benefit Lipgloss!), it doesn’t disappear in a flash. It’s sheer, but not so sheer that it’s invisible. As for the shine? Oh, the shine… Mr. Clean wishes his bald head was HALF as shiny as Electrify.
I’d love to shine a light on Illamasqua and ask them to reduce the price a few dollars ($19 is a little spendy), but it feels like a great deal. You get a texture that doesn’t stick, wonderful wear time for a non-sticky gloss (about four hours), and you don’t get any funky-a*# flavor or scent.
The smoochable pink stain Electrify leaves on my lips after the bulk of the color disappears is like a gift that keeps on giving.
I think it’s SO PRETTY!
When I did some surfing to see what others have said about it, I noticed a couple complaints that called it drying. I didn’t feel that way about , but if it’s a problem a moisturizing balm applied before bedtime should help (Clinique makes one I really like called Super Balm).
Pink lipgloss? Small victories? I say go for it. 🙂 Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
You might like Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Electrify if…
- You like how you look in cool pinks
- You favor glosses that don’t feel sticky
- You like sheer lips but still want some color
Congrats, class of 2010!
Graduations are one of my favorite rites of passage, and I thought the one I went to on Sunday for my bro’s girlfriend was really inspiring, and hella entertaining, too. There were a series of cultural performances put on by the Filipino-American student union on campus, and I left the gym feeling energized and happy.

To everyone who walked across the stage this year, a big congrats to you. Count me in as someone who’s proud of what you’ve accomplished. Way to go!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Yay – congrats!!
It’s great to see pics of your brother/and his girl (I know them both but you already knew that!)
It’s a lovely gloss but I have a feeling that it will be drying on me. Boo!
Karen says
Hee! It’s kind a miracle our paths haven’t crossed yet!
lexi says
In due time…plus my sister and I want to go to the magical Marshall’s you speak of in Tiburon!
Karen says
Marshall’s is out in the cut in Novato, girl!!
The residents of Tiburon would throw a fit if a discount store was in their ‘hood!
Kit says
that gloss is soooo pretty. i might just get it for myself. (:
also: yay class of 2010… which includes me… i’m doneee!
Karen says
Congrats, Kit! Did you graduate from high school, college or grad school?
Deb W says
I just graduated yesterday too (from law school). Even though I already own more makeup than one person should ever have, maybe I’ll pick up some gloss as a graduation present to myself!
Karen says
Congrats, Deb! What’s next for you (besides some lip gloss!)?
Deb W says
The bar exam (blech). After that….unemployment, ha. It’s an awful time to be looking for a job. I’m hoping something comes thru over the summer.
I’ve been playing with those Rimmel Moisture Renew lipsticks that you recommended, and WOW are they fabulous!! I wore Spotlight Beige to my graduation yesterday – put it on at 9AM and it stayed put until I got my diploma at 1:30. Amazing stuff.
Karen says
AWESOME! I’m so glad you like the Rimmel lippies. 🙂 They are great for the price, right?
As for the bar, are you taking it soon?
It’s a rough market right now, but with your law degree you still have a lot of options. I worked in legal for several years and knew a lot of fresh-out-of-school folks. You can always get in somewhere as a legal assistant to tide you over… I knew a lot of people who did that. It allowed them to get a foot into the door (and access to the firm’s internal job listings).
Deb says
Yeah, they’re fantastic. Definitely my new favorite lipstick (I also love Rimmel’s Lasting Finish – super creamy and they last forever too).
I’m taking the bar at the end of July, and I have the next two months of bar prep classes to look forward to. Not fun.
Thanks for the tip – I’ll keep that in mind. Right now I’m just keeping my head down and studying. Jobs will be much harder to come by if I fail the bar!

I showed my mom your website yesterday when she came for a visit…aaaaaaand she wanted to know if you’re Fliipino! She reminds me of the dad off of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. “Everybody is Greek or wants to be Greek!” (filipino, of course!) 🙂
Karen says
OHMAHGOSH my parents are the same way. Actually, I have something I call “Pinoy-dar.” I can pretty much tell when somebody is Filipino, or even half Filipino! 😀
Kayann says
Really??? haha I don’t have the “radar” but my mom does though! I don’t look Filipino but I do have her flat nose! 🙂
Karen says
I bet your nose is as cute as a button!
Is your mom into makeup? Mine totally isn’t… she likes nail polish and lipstick, but that’s as far as she’ll go.
jojoba (My Makeup Reviews) says

Hi Jojoba!
It’s been a while. How have you been?
meimei says
Can I just say that your brother’s girlfriend is SO PRETTY? And I love how Pinoy everything is about this graduation.
On topic: That lipgloss is gorgeous AND shiny! Looks like the lasting power is pretty good, too.
Also, I need to know who I should bribe to bring Illamasqua to the P.I., especially if they’re willing to bring their prices down a bit. I know that there are a few “online shopping” sites that re-sell American cosmetics here (mostly on Multiply)… but I want a counter in Rustan’s!
.-= meimei’s last blog post… Please Stand By =-.
Karen says
Yeah, she is! And she’s the nicest person, too. My brother did something right in this life…
As for the lipgloss, do you know anybody over in the UK? It might be cheaper to get it there.
meimei says
Glad to know about your brother’s GF! Such a sweetheart. 🙂
No friends yet in the UK (or at least friends who are close enough to trust with a massive haul like that… mostly classmates that I’ve only gotten in touch with recently on Facebook), but I think I could ask around if anybody has time to visit the Sephora in Hong Kong any time soon 😉
Also, I’m keeping an eye out for dupes from any of the legitimate Japanese or Korean cosmetics boutiques out here – usually they’re pretty good in terms of quality, and some of them are pretty long-lasting for the price. It’ll be an adventure, for sure!
.-= meimei’s last blog post… Please Stand By =-.
Karen says
I’m sure you’ll be able to find something comparable.
Isn’t Facebook amazing? Everybody and their mother is on that thing!!
Jen says
So pretty! But I really must stop buying lip gloss. The cosmetic bag I keep them in can’t close anymore because it’s too fat.
I graduated a couple weeks ago too! w00t!
Karen says
GURRRL, you just need to buy a bigger bag, LOL!
Congrats on graduation! What are your next plans?
TJ says
Congratulations to the grads! I remember graduation. Sort of. LOL. The lip gloss is beautiful (mentally plotting – if I wear my oldest one every day, it will be gone in less than two weeks- YES!).
Karen says
LOL… I remember going out to a party the night before and getting home at 5! Yes, the ceremony was at 9.
Amber says
Sounds like a neat ceremony. Your brother’s girlfriend is a cutie!
I love what Sephora has done for the accessibility of beauty products but I kind of hate how $19 is a ‘normal’ lip gloss price anymore. Even a MAC gloss still feels like an indulgence to me when there are so many decent cheapies out there, y’know?

I feel the EXACT SAME WAY about mascara. It makes me cranky that now most tubes are like $25-30!

Electrify looks fantastic on you. I have am liking Tantrum myself.

Do you have any trubs with it drying out your lips?
Aparnaa says
my roommate has it in Lily-Rose and I think the two of you have convinced me – like another lip gloss is really, really what I need right now!
Karen says
LOL! You can never have enough pink glosses!
Agnes says
wow.. i have my eye on a couple of these (electrify, enchantn and soul :P)! but.. another lipgloss? at $19?! eek… i’ll have to wait till i come up with a good excuse to reward myself 🙂 but until then.. i’ll just keep looking from behind the computer 🙁

That pink is very nice on you – I was like “holy bright pink” on the swatch but it looks great when you put it on. 🙂
The graduation looks like it was so cool! I’m glad you guys had a great time. 🙂
Nina says
Awesome graduation! Your bro’s gf is cute and your bro’s hair is awesome! 😀
I like the color of that gloss …. I will take a look at it when I pop over the mall on Friday to get the Hubs a dress shirt … I like non sticky glosses!
smeegal9 says
Hi there,
Does it really leave a stain behind? Are they supposed to do that?
I know that the Mark Gorgeous glosses are made to leave a stain, but I hate ordering in the mail and would try to pick this up instead.
chibu74 says
Congrats to the grads!!
