Mind mind keeps telling me nooooo …
Against my better judgement, here’s a pic of a face of the day with makeup from MAC’s Antiquitease Limited Edition Collection. El hub walked into the bathroom and announced oh-so-loudly that it was time to eat, and subsequently scared the bejeebus out of me:
I know, right?
I’m so glad that I finally dug into the Antiquitease Mineralize Eye Shadows ($16.50 each) because THEY RULE!
I haven’t felt this way about a MAC eye product since I discovered Fluidline! I love how the shadows are so sheer but still have just enough color punch. Plus, they build super easily and they look kinda space-agey cool with their weird domes and veins of color.
Here are a few less goofy pics from the Antiquitease “Gilty Kiss” look that I tried last night:
Everything I used was from MAC, except the blush and lip liner, which are from Rimmel.
I think I just might have a new addiction. I’m gonna have to grab every single pan of MES that comes out in the future. Yay for my makeup collection, boo for my wallet.
Are you a Mineralize Eye Shadow addict? What are your favorite combos?
A potential New Year’s resolution?
Have you heard the song by Wyclef called “Sweetest Girl?” It’s fantastic. It’s got a very upbeat sound, but at the same time if you *really listen* to the lyrics, it’s very sad. The disconnect between the happy music and sad words somehow makes the song work.
I heard it driving home, so of course the first thing I had to do when I got to my computer was watch the video on YouTube. In addition to the original video, I also found several acoustic versions done by regular folks with just a guitar! And wow, there are so many talented singers out there. Check out this version of “Sweetest Girl.” It’s pretty good:
I love to sing (back in the day I used to take lessons), but I’m usually too shy to sing in front of people. I think in 2008 I’m gonna learn how to play guitar, and perhaps someday work up the guts to do a version of this song on my own.
Are you already thinking about your New Year’s Resolutions? Watcha got so far?

Karen

Those are some gorgeous FOTD’s! F’sOTD? You look so elegant and classy, even when having the bejeebus scared out of you!
I have the Mercurial MES from the last mineralize collection, and I love the shade and the shine, but it’s so sparkly! I wore a light coat to punch up a (relatively) low-impact eye one day and that evening at aikido one of my dojo-mates threw me and, leaning down to finish the pin he observes “You’re sparkly.” I said “Yes, my eyeshadow does that!” — It had gradually dropped sparkles down my cheeks! Just a few, but still… working out in sparkles? Makes me feel like Olivia Newton-John! 😉 Any brilliant tips on control or is this just the nature of the beast? Are the Antiquitease MES’s super-sparkly too?
Mrs. Lynne says
Oh sweetie! The MES looks gorgeous on you! Antique indeed! I notice that the MES doesn’t seem like it has much sparkle from the top of the pot, but when I shattered Mi’Lady, there was sooo much sparkle in the middle! Like it was all stuffed inside! But I think I have to go back and get the rest… thus starting my MES obsession. Oh MAC, look at the monster you’ve created.
I’m so behind when it comes to music but I really like this song. I hope you can find the tabs for this song and do your own rendition (sp?) of it. I think it would sound so pretty coming from a female vocalist. Then have hubby “dollar dollar bill y’all”-ing it! Cute.
mich says
HAHA! I nearly snorted my coffee onto my laptop. Thanks. 😛
I’ve always been curious about the mineralised eyeshadows, but the glitter scares me. Did you layer the shadows a lot in your FOTD?
Karen says
Thanks Glosslizard! 🙂
Yeah, I agree. They’re pretty sparkly. I’m not always down with the sparkles but for some reason I just really like these. I think it’s mostly ’cause they are sheer enough to control fairly easily. (My clumsy self has a hard time with those MAC Pigments!)
Did you use a base before you applied your shadow? I used plain ole’ MAC Select Moisturecover as a base and that seemed to “grab” the color really well.
And that’s so cute that your dojo-mate said that. You’d think that guys would have no clue. He deserves a pat on the back or some other form of positive reinforcement!
Karen says
Hi Mrs. Lynne!
Thanks girl! That’s interesting that the sparkles were hidden inside of your Mi’Lady, like buried treasure! I wonder if that’s just what happens when the domes get worn down. Hmmm!
And good idea on getting El Hub in on the musical action. In an ideal scenario he’d do the rap section too. (I am sooo not a rapper!) He prolly won’t do it though – he won’t even do karaoke at my parent’s house, LOL. Are you a musician? It sounds like you can play guitar.
BTW, I thought of you today. I looked at some pictures of Shark’s Cove earlier because I was missing Hawaii. Was it warm today, or rainy again?
Karen says
Hi Mich,
True, true … the MES are kinda scary looking! And you are right, I did a lot of layering in the look above. But the great thing about these is that you can totally tone it down! I wore Engaging to work today, just as a subtle wash of color, and it was really very pretty and natural. 🙂
Vanessa says
HAHA I love the first picture, your necklace is pretty! I like how this look complements your outfit, I am loving the eyes! Sorry I forgot to mention it, I used L’Oreal XXL Curl Power Mascara, I am starting to like it, even though I still love the Telescopic mascara. What’s your favorite mascara?
Mrs. Lynne says
Hey Karen.
I wouldn’t consider myself a musician. But I did take piano lessons for 10 or so years. I’m not any good although I wish I was more serious about it when I was taking it. I played a bit of violin in elementary school and I’m a self taught amateur guitarist. A friend of mine taught me how to read guitar tabs and after that bought myself an acoustic guitar and just practiced. Sadly it’s lying under the dust somewhere but every once in a while, I pick it up and play weird music, lol. My husband can play that and drums… he’s so hot, lol!
And you’re so sweet to think of me 🙂 It actually was nice and sunny today and just right. But we’re supposed to have showers for the remainder of the week 🙁
Where is Shark’s Cove at?
Glosslizard says
I probably wasn’t using a base (I’m terribly bad at adding that particular extra step), so I’ll definitely try that next time! Thanks for the tip! If that doesn’t work, I’ll just save it for sparkly occasions! I’m headed over to MAC tomorrow (Plum Lips here I *finally* come!) and I’m going to check out the metallics as an option for adding understated pizzazz (is that an oxymoron?).
And, yeah, that particular guy from the dojo is tremendously sweet and observant! He’s recently engaged to a really wonderful woman, so I think that’s his positive reinforcement! 🙂
Karen says
No worries, Vanessa. I love how your lashes looked super long in your FOTD! Wowee wow wow!
I haven’t tried Telescopic but will have to put that on my list. Right now I’m rotating between MAC Plushlash, Elizabeth Arden Ceramide and L’oreal Voluminous Carbon Black. I’ve been wanting to try Lashblast but haven’t been able to find it at any drugstore near me, boo hoo!
Karen says
I took piano lessons too for a really long time (mostly against my will). Did your parents make you go to family parties and play?!?!
That’s so cute that your husband plays instruments. You can teach your lil’ ones a few chords and then you guys will have your own band, awww!
Shark’s Cove is in the North Shore. Are you a water person? It has the most amazing snorkeling!
Karen says
Glosslizard! You need a base, fo’ sho’. Just use whatever concealer you’ve got around. Otherwise it’ll travel all over the place! As for colors, I like Engaging and Family Silver for understated looks. 🙂 Yay! MAC loot time!
Aww, he sounds like a nice boy. Glad that a wonderful woman snatched him up! I have a soft spot for martial arts guys (I even married one!).
I was gonna go to Chanel after work today but I took one look at traffic and was like, “um, no.” I am definitely going tomorrow though, and plan on taking my good ole sweet time at the counter.
Mrs. Lynne says
You bet!! Mostly against my will too. Must be the culture. Had to play at parties, gave my mom bragging rights when it came to praising comparing/praising her children with her friends,… I’m sure you know how that goes.
You know, its funny. I actually am terrified of water and I”m surrounded by so much of it. Something about being underwater and seeing the openness and depth just scares the sh!t out of me. I went snorkeling in Hanauma Bay but I think that’s as far as my interest underwater will go. No scuba diving/surfing for me. I love the beach, anything above water, and if in water, have to be able to touch the bottom. Sometimes I don’t know why I’m out here, lol!
Do you folks plan on coming back anytime soon? Is your hubby originally from here?
mich says
Oooh, am having shiny happy dreams of Engaging and the MAC counter now. This is not good for my wallet.
Oh, and thanks for the concealer-as-base heads up. I’m really fed up with Bare Canvas turning my warm shadows pinky neutral so I have to give this a shot!
Megan says
Hey Karen,
I love your FOTD’s…but I always find myself feeling like I can’t pull off the amount of color you put on your eyes. I have a couple friends who do and can…and maybe that should be my new years resolution…bolder eyeshadow. I picked up a tube of lash blast at CVS the other day. It’s okay… but totally not a fave for me. I like that it doesn’t clump (which I find true of all the mascara’s I’ve tried that have the newer plastic tipped ends and not real bristles)…BUT it’s not dramatic enough for me…and I’ve found myself topping it with 2000 calorie by max factor, or even Diorshow the other day. I will probably be most likely to use it alone if I’m going for a more understated look…the problem is that I don’t really do understated lashes much. LOL 🙂 I’m planning to buy a tube of plushlash next, but I spent too much at the clinique counter last week, so I have to wait. That’s my version of holiday budgeting. 🙂
Karen says
Mrs. Lynne, I hear ya. I know several folks who like to have the comfort of the ocean floor beaneath your feet.
Yes, my hub’s family is from there originally. I dunno if we’re going back for Christmas this year. Are you guys gonna visit the Bay for the holidays?
Karen says
Hi Mich,
Bare Canvas is a good one. It’s one of my go-to faves. That’s interesting that it turns shadows pink on you!
The only thing with concealer as base is that for some folks with super-oily lids there is a chance that your shadow will migrate. I know that many uber-oily girls like Urban Decay Potion Primer as a pre-shadow base but I’m not a fan of it. It does give shadows good staying power but I find it really hard to blend colors on top of it.
Karen says
Hi Megan!
Thanks, girl. Truth be told I rarely wear this amount of makeup during the day when I go to work. In order to really capture the colors I pack on the color for pictures. You can definitely tone it down, which you can easily do!
And you will *love* the Plushlash. There is a technique to it though. I get the brush, wipe off the excess, and then use the tip of the brush (which has shorter fibers) to coat the lashes from root to tip. Then I use the fat part of the brush and run that over the lashes during the second coat to give them volume.
I gotta find me some Lash Blast! There’s been so much hype over it! I’m sure I’ll probably hate it though, but who knows!
Abi says
Hi, Karen!
Omg the FOTD today is your best look yet!!!!!! You looked so pretty and fresh and all that…Anyways just wanted to let you know!
Oh, and did you ever get to try the Lashblast? Let us know!
Chao
Jane says
The MES are gorgeous! My favorite is Engaging because I feel it can go with any look. I also love Family Silver when doing a bright red lips type of look.
I have some other duos from a previous collection (I don’t know which… bought them off eBay) I’m a huge fan of the MAC MES and MSFs! Agreed with you that we should look out for them. They’re seriously hot!
Rowena says
Hi!
Can I ask where you bought your gold necklace? It’s gorgeous and really complements the look! Mind you I’m in the UK so I doubt I can buy the necklace… :/
Karen says
Hi Abi!
Thanks! You know, I’ve still on the hunt for Lashblast. I didn’t go by the Walmart when I went home to see my parents yesterday so no Lashblast for me. 🙁
Hope you had a good Thanksgiving!
Karen says
Hi Jane,
Engaging is very pretty, and so multifunctional!
I haven’t tried MSF yet but now I think I’ll have to get on that train, too!
Karen says
Hi Rowena,
That gold necklace is from Macy’s. There’s no particular designer, I got it in their jewelry trend section. I know that there’s a huge sale online today at macys.com! Maybe it’ll be on sale. 🙂
kia says
hey karen… so i found the answer to my question that you use concealer as your base. you really pulled together the feel and look of antiquitease… you look so radiant. that rimmel blush is gorgeous on you! i might have to suck it up and get majestic l/g and guilty kiss.. what do you think?
Karen says
Do it, Kia! I really like both of them because they are a more “gold” version of the nude lip, and it’s so easy to wear.
You’ll be able to pair it with so much, too!:D
