Sometimes it’s fun to go buck wild with an eye look — you know, the kind that take 30 minutes minimum, require six different shadows and five brushes to do. But most of the time when I finish one, I usually end up just sitting on the couch like a bedazzled bump on a log, waiting for my pumpkin to turn into a carriage.
When I don’t have an appetite for multi-step eye looks, I turn my menu of fast makeup treats — treats like Sonia Kashuk’s new Blink of an Eye Set ($12.99).
The newly released three-piece pencil set comes with two chubby Shimmering Creme Shadows in gold and silver and a Metallic Eye Definer (haha! I almost typed “Metallica”) in shimmery bronze.
If you dug the Urban Decay Glide-On Shadow Pencils that came out earlier this spring, you might REALLY like these two Shimmering Creme Shadow sticks, which are kinda like metallic drugstore equivalents.
Apply them to lids or lash lines just like regular shadows, blending out the edges and waiting a minute or so to let them set. And once they’re set, they don’t budge for nothin’! I’ve rubbed at ’em, splashed water on them, licked the swatch on the back of my hand and then scratched at it with my gnarly chipped nail — basically, they don’t move until they’re introduced to a heavy duty makeup remover. I like. 🙂
Shimmering Creme Shadows in Gold (left) and Silver (right)
Metallic Eye Definer
Swatches from the left with the flash: Shimmering Creme Shadow in Silver, Shimmering Creme Shadow in Gold and Metallic Eye Definer
Without the flash
As for the shimmery bronze Metallic Eye Definer in the set, she’s like the overlooked Jan Brady middle child. Yes, it’s cute and clings well to lash and water lines, but it’s nowhere near as durable as the Shimmering Shadow Cremes. Handy? — yes. And I think it does work well with the two other colors.
Even with the mediocre Metallic Eye Definer, the two Shimmering Creme Shadows take this well-priced set from good to great. I HOPE Sonia launches more of these in additional colors and finishes soon. I think they’re straight-up amazing.
PRICE: $12.99

MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A (an A+ if the liner lasted longer)
What was the highlight of your hump day?
Mine was the few minutes I spent relaxing this afternoon with a cup of chamomile tea. 🙂 I took a short break to reward myself for accomplishing everything on my to-do list.
What are you up to tonight? Right now I’m watching an episode of Million Dollar Listing (my new guilty pleasure) and teasing Tabs with the Cat-O-Matic app.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Tonight is “Babylon 5” on DVD and fat-free Fig Newtons. Which are just about as tasty as the full-fat ones. And a good thing, since I have eaten about eight of them.
I may go pick up that kit…I have a wedding to go to on Saturday, and I need a great makeup look that’ll stick around, pop, but is still fairly simple (I know I’ll cry…and those six-shadow looks aren’t great all over your face). I’d use a different liner, but sheer metallics would be nice for a spring wedding.
Jessi (Lacquered, Painted, Polished) says
LOL! I laughed at the image of you licking the back of your hand and scratching furiously at it. Was Tabs looking at you funny?
But you’re killing my wallet with all these Sonia Kashuk reviews! I went to Target today and bought the bent eyeliner brush and it is the BOMB! I removed and reapplied eyeliner 3 different times because I was having fun playing with it. My eyelids are swollen and red from all the abuse but it was totally worth it. Now I’m going to have to go back to Target and buy this too!
Jessi (Lacquered, Painted, Polished) says
By the way, what blush are you wearing? Your skin looks so healthy and glowing and perfect!
Karen says
Hi Jessi,
I’m wearing the blush from Sonia’s new Spring Awakenings Palette.
Jessi (Lacquered, Painted, Polished) says
Oh and that’s the blush you didn’t really like right? It looks great on you!
Karen says
So glad to hear you like it! It works with so many different things — gels, powder shadows, liquid liners, etc. I hope you get lots of use out of it.
Tracy says
More reasons to cross the border!
I keep forgetting to check back after post–What did you think of the werewolf fight?
Karen says
It made me really sad. 🙁 I felt awful for him!
Tracy says
Me too. Me too. :(( The show is getting really good!!
Elle says
Gurrrrrl, you be lookin’ HAWT in these photos lately. Seriously! You always look great, but you look super glowy in these past few posts. Love it 🙂
Not up to much – decompressing after my boxing class. I’m going on 5 classes now…still scared out of my mind before each one, but when it’s over I feel great. It feels weirdly awesome to have this 6 foot 9 dude yell at you while you’re punching a bag. Also, is that dude with the funky helmet hair still on Million Dollar Listing? I secretly wanted to be his friend…
Karen says
Good for you, Elle! I’ve heard that boxing is a great way to get in shape. I bet it’s very satisfying to beat the crap out of a bag, LOL!
And no, the guy with the weird helmet is no longer on the show! They replaced him with a dude who’s kind of a shark.
Elle says
It totally is, Karen…especially if you picture someone you don’t like on that bag. 😉 And nooooo, I liked helmet dude! Mostly because he looked all of about 12 and tried to act like a grown-ass man.

Ooooh! These are gorgeous! Also, chamomile tea is excellent. When I was in college, I would drink it with honey from a local beekeeper that had cloves, cinnamon and orange peels in it. Tasty!
Oh, Gizmo absolutely LOVES the catnip mice I bought her. She’ll even throw them up in the air to play with them, which is pretty impressive for someone without opposable thumbs. I’m impressed. 😀
Karen says
That honey sounds delicious! I like my chamomile tea with honey too (and a little splash o’ milk).
Gizmo is adorable by the way. I oohed and ahhed at all of her pictures. She does look like a little gremlin! What’s her personality like? Is she very affectionate?
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Tasty! 🙂
Aw, thank you. She’s super cute. She’s making cute little honking noises as she’s falling asleep right now (because of her tiny nose). She’s getting more affectionate as she’s getting used to us. She’s letting us pet her more. Weirdly, though, she freaks if you pet the top of her head or her tummy, but purrs and twists her body adorably if you pet her anywhere else. Her back legs remain standing up, but her front legs lie across the floor so that her body is slanted, and then twists the front half of her torso on the ground. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a cat do that! It’s really cute.
She’s getting better and better every day, so I’m hoping that soon she’ll be very affectionate :). Oh, and she and Tigger are finally bonding! Today, Tigger has been repeatedly coming upstairs to go up to her door, and then they look at each other under it and occasionally mew. I figure I’ll let her loose in the house (well, closing the doors to any rooms where it’ll be easy for her to hide) and see how they interact sometime this weekend. 🙂
dani@callitbeauty says
the brown is lovely!
as for the highlight of my hump day: it was rehearsing for a performance with 2 good friends 🙂
Karen says
Sounds like fun, Dani. When is your performance?
ladydi says
I wonder if the brown pencil could be use as a brow filler? I think once a metallic shimmery brow definer was mention but I can’t put my finger on who it was by.
Karen says
I think that one was by NYX. It was a little odd — it was more of a brown gray. Anywho, this might be a little too shimmery for brows, but I you could probably try it. If you like how it looks, then why not?
Heidi says
I really need to get myself over to Target soon! All this Sonia Kashuk stuff looks amazing.
Highlight of my evening was watching American Idol. It’s my guilty pleasure! It was a good night of Motown music. Missy thoroughly enjoyed it and purred through most of the Stevie Wonder tunes!
Oh, and I love that particular chamomile tea!
Karen says
Missy has great taste. Stevie Wonder is the TRUTH! 😀
I hope the storm hasn’t scared her too much. We’ve got lots of wind and rain right now (Tabs is sleeping through it… what a rough life!).
Tekoa says
I have determined that anything can be made better with a cat. A product shot looks 34% cooler with a cat in the photo. Dishes are done faster with a cat supervising. An essay gets an automatic A+ when submitted with a cat. The success of this blog is entirely due to Tab’s executive choices, If he had opposible thumbs he’d be world dictator.
Karen says
It’s true. I am merely a vessel that Tabs uses for the sole purpose of achieving world domination.
Vijaya says
Those look HEAVENLY. These are now on my wishlist.
Karen says
Cool! I hope you grab a set.
Ashley says
how do you pronounce kashuk? *in my head i say cash-shuck. but i don’t say it aloud for fear that i’m wrong.
Karen says
I say “cash-uk.”
Kim says
Well, I don’t think I really even need to give my opinion since I’m sure you already know that I was like Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs over the gold and silver. 🙂 I do have UD Jackpot, though. So, wallet saved for now! These look like great options for when I run out.
Karen says
I hope she adds they to her permanent line soon (they’re limited edition).
Nina says
those pencils are lovely!!! i love a good, creamy metallic pencil esp for the inner corners of my eye!
must get to target today! 🙂
my humpday was quiet — work was busy, so i got home, exercised, had some turkey spaghetti with the hubs and watched top chef! 🙂
Karen says
Okay, so I thought Antonia totally got the shaft!
Nina says
i agree! it also felt that way after they ate the perfect bite: mikes dish was bland, while antonia’s was bold and flavorful.
i also think she is the better chef. mike is just full of it! 🙂
Karen says
Yes! Clearly the judges were not judging solely on the last bite. I think they chose Mike so that the finale would be better.
Oh and Antonia’s challenge to cook a bento box — SO TOUGH!
Julia says
I know everyone’s been all about your cheeks, but please please tell us what lippie you’re rocking! I’m prolly gonna guess MAC Nymphette :-p but it looks like it has more pigment… Clue us in please! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Julia,
I’m wearing the coral lipstick shade from Sonia Kashuk’s Bronzey Corals Lip Quad.
Swathi says
Hey Karen .
Did you change your foundation for this and the previous post ? coz you look soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo amazing !!! Like a clearer face and brighter. Somehow your face is glowing !
And btw I previously asked about guerlain garance , I finally got it and it is just amazing !!!!
Karen says
Hi Swathi,
Nope, just the same MAC Strobe/Laura Mercier/MAC Prep+Prime combo as usual. 🙂
Ooh, new Guerlain! That’s always exciting.
Girl says
Honey Vanilla White is also amazing!
Sonia is the brand to watch out for ! LOVE HER!
Trude says
Hmm I may have to check these out! I bet they’d be pretty great layered over a darker color too, no? The highlight of my hump day was an awesome first (coffee) date. 🙂
Sarah says
Thanks so much for reviewing these Karen. I just picked them up. I was in the fence but was afraid they would be gone if I went back for them later. I’m so excited to try them.
Jenny says
I just bought these and they really do stay crazy amazing! My only problem is i dropped my gold pencil and the tip got smashed into a creamy mess. 🙁 HELP!! Do i have to sharpen this down all the way to get rid of hte mess? What a messy nightmare…
Karen says
Hi Jenny,
Sorry to hear that! You could try putting the product on the back of your hand first and then applying it with an eyeshadow brush. Eventually you’ll have to sharpen the tip, though.
jenny says
ok thanks! i might try the eyeshadow brush anyways bc it’s so creamy. and wow u were right, i had to scrub it off w makeup remover! thanks so much for all ur posts, i’ve gotten my mom obsessed w ur blog as well 🙂
Hazel says
