If you’re ever looking for cheap entertainment on a Friday night, Target is THE PLACE to go. I’m only half kidding, too. I stopped by last Friday around 9:30ish to satisfy a craving for Power C Vitamin Water, and the store was hoppin’!
People buy some weird sh*t in the middle of the night, LOL! Like Vitamin Waters. I spent more time people watching than actually shopping.
But I did swing by the beauty aisles; I picked up this bottle of Yes To Carrots Pampering Conditioner for Normal to Dry Hair ($8) on a whim.
Like their Yes to Cucumbers Conditioner (SO GOOD!), this one is also free of petroleum products, SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), paraben and silicones. At the same time, it’s cruelty-free and 99.8% natural, made with minerals, the company says, that were collected from the Dead Sea, as well as other cool stuff like carrot seed oil and honey. It’s a very diverse group of mostly natural ingredients.
The scent isn’t what I expected from a product named after carrots. I detect notes of baby powder and soap first, with maybe a hint of eau de carrot at the finish. I don’t think it’s as refreshing as the Yes to Cucumbers products I’ve tried, but I do think it’s pleasant.
The product feels a little thick to me, and, after rinsing and drying, my hair looks and feels heavier than before. But, since I’m prone to poofy hair, I don’t mind at all. If, however, you’re concerned about retaining volume, the lift-retaining Yes to Cucumbers version might be a better fit.
Minor quibbles aside, I’m saying Yes to Carrots Pampering Conditioner. I love the list of ingredients, and I think it’s a respectable detangling conditioner. Still, give the Yes to Cucumbers version a sniff, because you might like the scent of that one even better.
PRICE: $9 for a 16.9-oz. bottle
AVAILABILITY: Available now at grocery stores, drugstores and also online

Thanks SOOO much for this review. I was thinking of trying this out, but didn’t want to take the risk of buying a fairly large bottle of conditioner that I wasn’t sure would work.
Karen says
You’re welcome!
Cara Smith says
Oh my god! Vijaya, that shampoo is soo good. The Yes To Carrots Nourishing Shampoo is fabulous, too: http://bit.ly/fPBjGP. Have you tried any of the other shampoos?
Nina says
im actually using that conditioner to go w/ my neutrogena clarifying shampoo every 2 days! 🙂 it gets kinda heavy, youre right. ive learned to use a small amount and only on the ends of my hair. 🙂
Karen says
That’s a good idea! I’ve been using it as a regular conditioner and a conditioner wash… I’ll stick to keeping it on my ends.
How are you liking that Clarifying shampoo? I tried it once and got crazy tangles.
Nina says
i like it but i realized pretty soon after using it that i need a rich conditioner to use after it. otherwise, my hair will be a hot and tangled mess! 🙂
Karen says
Yeah, I remember it being really great at taking all the gunk out! It smells really good too.
Nina says
it smells so clean! 🙂
Vanessa says
I love Target so much! Walking around there is like therapy, but cheaper…kinda. I always go in there for one $5 thing and come out with $40 worth of stuff.
My hair seems to have gotten used to my amazingly cheap Suave clarifying shampoo so I’m thinking about giving the Cucumber shampoo/conditioner a try. Thanks for the awesome review :-).
Happy Tuesday!
Karen says
Haha, isn’t that the truth! I can’t leave there without a least one or two beauty pick me ups. 😉
Happy Tuesday to you too! What’s going on in your neck of the woods?
Vanessa says
Not a whole lot, it’s a pretty slow Tuesday :-). I’m not adjusting to this time change at all! How are you and Tabs handling it?
Karen says
Ugh, I’m all screwed up because of it! I haven’t been able to fall asleep at night and I’m eating at weird times!
dani@callitbeauty says
i’ve been wanting to try out the “yes to” range but the bottles they sell here in canada are HUGE and i probably won’t be able to finish it. it feels like such a waste for me to buy such a big bottle just to try it out.
but it sounds like i really need to give the yes to cucumbers conditioner a try 🙂
Karen says
The cucumber one is a really solid conditioner. Try it out! 🙂
Trisha says
Aww, I wish it smelled more like carrots. I love carrots! Especially carrot juice…
Karen says
Wouldn’t it be awesome if it smelled like carrot cake?
Harshleen says
I have tried this one but didn’t like it that much…..doesn’t help my thick poofy hair. Karen, which is your favorite hair product to tame frizzy, poofy hair?
Karen says
Sounds like a gel applied to wet hair after shampooing/conditioning might help. Is your hair curly or straight?
Harshleen says
I have thick curly hair and I use a leave-in treatment too on damp hair after washing but they still remain poofy 🙁
Karen says
You may want to try applying gel or some kind of curling cream to your hair while it’s wet to help remove the frizz. I like DevaCurl Angel or Bumble & Bumble Curl Conscious Calming Creme.
Wendy says
Kinda weird that the second ingredient in the conditioner is alcohol.
Karen says
I noticed that too, but it still feels very hydrating.
snoopysteph says
Cetearyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol used as an emollient, emulsifier, thickener, and carrying agent for other ingredients. Not all alcohols are the drying kind! 🙂
Karen says
Thanks for 411 snoopysteph! 🙂
Wendy says
still ewwwww!
Patti says
Hey…I’m always looking for new hair products to try and you’ve inspired me. I have a Target trip in my future…I think I’ll pick up at least one of these to try. Thanks 🙂
Karen says
You’re welcome, Patti. If you find any good Target goodies you’ll have to let me know. 🙂
Kim says
I’m saying Yes To any product that has “fabulous” on the label. 🙂 This does sound like a great product for thick haired gals who tend to poof.
Karen says
Me too! 🙂

I need to try this. I have the Yes To Carrots Pampering Shampoo, and the Yes To Tomatoes shampoo (I think it’s the volumizing one) and I love them! I know it’s weird but I haven’t been using conditioner lately because it just weighs down my thin hair, but I should probably still use it occasionally. I love the smell of these – not sure what the cucumber ones smell like but I will look for them the next time I’m at Target.
Karen says
What’s the scent like for the Yes to Tomatoes shampoo? I like the idea of it but don’t want to go around with my hair smelling like a garden salad, LOL!
Tiffany says
I loooove target! And it is hilarious to see what other people are buying sometimes, lol! The cucumber version sounds up my alley…
Karen says
It’s really great, especially if you want a lot of volume.
Melody says
I love this stuff! I used to use only salon products until I tried this on a whim and now I’ve been using it for more than a year. I feel like it doesn’t promote as much build-up as my old conditioners used to.
Karen says
Oh cool! What other Yes To hair products do you use?
Melody says
I use the Yes to Carrots shampoo.
snoopysteph says
I’ve decided it’s completely impossible for me to walk out of Target without dropping less than $100. I loooooove Target, especially the clearance deals!
I’ve never tried anything from this brand but now I’m curious!
Karen says
Haha, me too! Those shelves with the discount stuff at the end of the aisles get me every time!
lexi says
Yes, Targhay is the spot to be! I use to go there with my sister just intending to spend $20 and then all of the sudden my sister would be buying a whole new bathroom accessories set! Then we’d cruise the electronics section and it would be bumpin Tupac’s “I Get Around” and we’d be dancing. If anything it would get us in the mood to hit up a club that night – we were in our early 20’s at the time and this would be at the Colma Target hahahaha
MEMORIES!!
Yes, I need to try this line as well. I just wanted to share my poppin Target story hahaha!
Karen says
HAHA! You more or less summed up my youth right there, seriously.
Sarah says
I have the travel set with the carrots shampoo and conditioner. Love them! Need to try the cucumber set next.
Karen says
The Cucumber conditioner is awesome! Try it. 🙂
Dao says
I had the Yes to Carrots conditioner mask for hair before and I lurved it! I got so much for my money and if you need a deep moisturizing conditioner to leave on your hair for a solid 12-15 minutes, I recommend it!
Karen says
Good to know, Dao!
Annabella Freeman says
Anything from Yes To doesn’ t work for me which is a shame tried Carrots, Blueberries, and Tomatoes!
Me and my mom used to go Walmart at 2am just for a laugh sometimes, I’m sure you can imagine some of sights at that time of the morning!
Karen says
Aw, that’s a bummer! They have some nice ingredients.
Mindy says
I keep seeing the Yes to Carrots everywhere and i was curious about it…i’m soo glad you reviewed it! I’m definitely trying it, esepcially since your kitty gives it the paws up 🙂
cassandra says
Which do you think would be better for wavy semi-thick hair? [That’s almost void of hair color but just the tips are still dyed!] Yes to carrots or yes to cucumbers? Since you tried both out anyway 🙂 My hair also gets oily by the second day :\ but the tips are kinda dry! Ah, the humanity!…or humidity? Lol!
DalaLuz says
It sounds really good! I don’t mind a bit of depoofing either 🙂
Molly says
I have both the shampoo and the conditioner in the shower now! I tried the yes to cucumbers line first, and loved it, and now have moved on to the carrot line. I love them both. I have been using them on my kids because I’m trying to get away from (some of, at least) the chemicals.
saku says
I still got the carrots bottle on sale from last year. And I’m still not done. I have the old formula. Some people say they like the new ones better.
But I don’t get why companies keep changing the formulas. I like how it makes my thick curls fluffy, since I don’t use much styling products. I just wash and go. I want to try the tomatoes one next.
