It was love at first sight yesterday when I laid eyes on Laura Mercier’s newest spring color collection, Dreamy. With six new sheer lipsticks, four delicious pastel shimmer cream eye shadow duos and a highlighting shimmer bloc, the collection is sexy and effortless — my makeup style to the Nth degree!
I wish I had better product pics, but here’s a stalkery phone picture of the display until I can get better ones:
Remember the bout of makeup indecision I suffered last week, trying to decide between the spring NARS Shanghi Lily and Laura Mercier Seduction collections? Well, I experienced absolutely none of that with Dreamy. My heart literally skipped a beat when I saw the eye duos and lipsticks, and I worked out the makeup math (aka, trying to justify buying it all!) in my head, LOL.
Although Dreamy is a spring collection, I get a laid-back, beachy, vacation vibe from it. These are colors I’d wear on a tropical getaway. To finish the look, I’d need a shade of cream eye shadow on my lids and a pink sheer lipstick on my pucker. And a surfboard. And a margarita. LE SIGH!
Here’s the lowdown on Dreamy…
Eyes
Creme Eye Duo ($28 each)
- Daydream – peach and bronze
- Enchantment – yellow and green
- Fairytale – pink and violet
- Mesmerize – sand and silver
Each Creme Eye Duo contains two contrasting cream shades which blend and work well either together or separately. The colors are shimmery but don’t have giant chunks of glitter in them. While the pastels are subtle and light, they aren’t so light as to look stark or unwearable. I’m excited about Daydream, Enchantment and Fairytale. The sand and silver colors in Mesmerize didn’t really move me, though, so I’m skipping that one for now.
I swatched the shades with my finger at the counter. Each of the colors appeared sheer on my skin. I think that’s by design because the product marketing is all about the suggestion of sheer — not in your face — color. I did notice I could apply multiple layers of any shade to increase the intensity of a shadow, so, on days in which I’d want bolder looks, I’d have that option, too.
The formula is long wearing, non-greasy and crease resistant — I swatched my arm and after three hours the colors had barely budged!
Lips
Lip Colour – Sheer ($20 each)
- Baby Lips – sheer warm pink
- Bare Lips – sheer rose beige
- Healthy Lips – sheer rose
- Nude Lips – sheer neutral beige
- Sexy Lips – sheer sangria rose
- Tender Lips – sheer brown rose
Each of the new lipsticks in Dreamy’s Lip Colour – Sheer collection, the newest additions to the Laura Mercier lipstick family, have a sheer wash of color and a semi-matte finish. Each little pretty is supposed to hydrate, plump and condition lips. Laura Mercier used a long-wearing formula infused with a special lipstick technology they call Laura Mercier Lip Complex, which “delivers a soft wash of color in just one swipe.” I’m psyched about all these colors, but the ones that move me most are Bare Lips, Tender Lips and, of course, Sexy Lips.
I couldn’t get decent swatches of the new Orchid Mosaic Shimmer Bloc ($38). Here’s a shot from the Laura Mercier Web site:
Truthfully, Orchid Mosaic didn’t move me as much as the other new products did. It’s a highlighting powder with a pearl finish and four separate colors you can either use alone or together on your eyes, cheeks or body. The pinks were a little too sheer on my skin, and I’m afraid the color wouldn’t display unless I really laid it on thick. Unless I can get a Laura Mercier makeup artist to show me a secret way to get the most out of Orchid Mosaic, I’ll probably skip this one.
Sadly, the forces of makeup nature were aligned against me, and I wasn’t able to buy anything from the collection yesterday, boo. When I arrived at the Nordstrom counter, the Laura Mercier makeup artist had just left for her afternoon break, and, because the collection was so new, none of the makeup artists from other lines could find where the collection items were stashed. I’ll return later today with a few gift cards that’ve been burning holes in my pocket, wheeee!
How’s your Saturday coming along? I hope you’ve got plans to do some relaxin’ this weekend.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I seriously cannot wait to see what you come back with! All the swatches look gorgeous! I particularly love Enchantment and Daydream as well as Sexy Lips and Bare Lips.
I have never used creme eyeshadows before, so you’ll have to let me know if you just apply them as you would a regular shadow and what brushes work best.
Happy Shopping, Karen!

I really like tender lips and sexy lips! Gorgeous! I so don’t need any makeup right now, but I seem to be on the prowl for something to go out and grab! Maybe these lippies will do it!
Speaking of prowling, have you seen any of the pictures of the MAC Heatherette collection? I’m patiently (ha!) waiting for the end of March so I can pounce on it!
Dao says
Dreamy indeed! Lip colors look so pretty and they’re my kind of lipsticks: sheer enough to see the texture of my lips but pigmented enough to enhance the color.

Karen…I’ve got to stop reading your blog…LOL Seriously you just give me more things to want and to dream about. I’m really liking daydream, fairtytale and enchantment. However Lancome is already next on my list…I’m getting the Stylish Neutrals palette and MAYBE the pink to the club (if I behave)… 🙂
Anna says
I love the Daydream and Fairytale eye duos the most!
Seeing all these colors,I’m glad this collection is
called Dreamy.
Karen says
Thanks Tuprnut!
I didn’t make it to Nordstrom today, boo, so no Dreamy for me (yet). I’ve been puttering around today and sadly the trip to the mall just didn’t happen. I’ll go in the next few days, though, so hopefully I’ll be able to post some easy looks and tips.
As for brushes, in the past I’ve used a number of different kinds. It depends on how much of a hurry I’m in and which brushes are clean, to tell you the truth 🙂 Sometimes I like using clean fingers, because the warmth from my hands makes it easy to manipulate the shadow on the lids. Sometimes I’ll use a blending brush, like the MAC 217 or a flat brush like the 252. I have a few synthetic brushes that I use for cream products, too like the 239 or the 249.
But cream shadows are great – they open up a whole new world of possibilities, because you can also layer powder shadows on top for different effects!

Hi Glosslizard,
“I so don’t need makeup right now…” LOL! I should have this tattooed on me or something. That’s the story of my life.
I have seen the pics of the Heatherette collection. They appeal to the pink lovin’ girl inside of me, for sure. I’ll have to see it in person to see how I feel ’bout it though. It’s very cute and trendy, and for some reason it reminds me of the “play” makeup I had as a kid!
Karen says
Hi Dao,
I totally agree! I didn’t get to try ’em on my lips but I have a good feeling that they’re going to be wonderful. I really like LM’s lipsticks (so wearable!) so when I finally get my hands on a few tubes (hopefully in the next few days) I’ll post some pics up so you can get an idea of the sheerness.
Karen says
Hi Megan!
LOL, I’m so your corner makeup pusher!
This is a totally worthy collection to be lusting after. I think once you see it and play with it you’ll definitely fall in love. Even the color shy can wear the eye colors because even though they have color they aren’t scary or intimidating at all. Sigh, I loves me some Laura. 🙂
Glosslizard says
Ha ha! You’re right! Heatherette does look like little kid makeup! I don’t know if I would’ve been interested in the pinks at all before last month, but Fafi got me rolling somehow! I don’t know if any of the stuff will move me when I see it in person, but I’m all set to be swayed! 😉
Karen says
AHHH FAFI! I still love. Sadly, I haven’t busted into my Girl Friendly Paint Pot yet BOO!
I saw an awesome pink the other day at Shiseido that I’m jonsing after. They have these pretty cream eye shadows in pots (much like the Paint Pots) in their spring collection and the pink is the perfect pale shell pink with lil’ bits of glitter.
BeautyTalk says
I was just on the Laura Mercier website the other day thinking about when she’s going to bust out with a new collection. Thanks for the heads up and please do a tutorial as soon as you get the products!
Sandy says
Ooh I love the lip swatches. They look pretty. I wonder if their 187 brush alike is as good as MAC’s. i’ve been applying foundation with MAC 187, and I need to buy another one but it’s so expensive here, it’s about $85 if I’m not wrong.
Glosslizard says
Don’t worry, as long as you HAVE Girl Friendly, you can always bust into it at your leisure! 🙂
Yeah, I saw the Shiseido collection’s ads, phenomenally pretty colors! I haven’t tried their pot eyeshadows before (except for an awesome turquoise eye that one of the Sephora MAs did on me once), I’ll have to check out the texture in person!
Karen says
Sure thang, BeautyTalk! Are you liking this collection as much as I am?
Karen says
Hi Sandy,
The LM brush is $45. I had one experience with a Laura Mercier brush, and it was bad. The moment I got it home and removed it from its plastic casing the barrel detached from the handle. So no more LM brushes for me!
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
The pot shadows have a wonderful texture…so do the powder shadows! I think I have a new addiction 🙂
Amanda says
thanks for the heads up Karen! You know I”m a LM fan too. So, I wonder how the eyeshadow duos compare to her other cream eyeshadows….you know the ones in the tube (I can’t think of the name right now, but I have the color titanium). And I do think that the lipsticks maybe be refomulated and/or repromoted? I know for sure that she had used those names before….but either way, still appealing! I like the looks of “nude”. I’ve never tried LM’s lippies so I’m glad to hear that you like ’em.

Ladies, if you like Dreamy by Laura Mercier set a bit of $$$$$$$$$$$$$ aside wait until you see “Gold Digger” it should be out anytime now!!!
Geraldine says
Hi, I need to invest in some good skincare. Don’t no whether to go for Laura Mercier of Lancome. Laura Mercier foundation looks good, any ideas which brand I should go for. I bought her eyeshadow, shy violet, its really fab and sexy looking.
Karen says
Hi Geraldine,
Are you looking for foundation or tinted moisturizer? I haven’t used Lancome’s, but I can tell you that I really like both LM’s Oil-Free foundation and Oil-Free tinted moisturizer. They cover well, feel weightless and don’t break me out.
If you’re open to other brands, I also dig:
Becca Stick Foundation
Becca Tinted Moisturizer
Chanel Teint Innocence in the Compact
All of these are great!
I am still waffling over getting the Shy Violet quad…I may end up caving in!
Karen says
Hi Desiree,
Thanks for the heads up! That collection sounds very pretty (I love golds!) so I’ll keep my eye out for it. Have a good week!
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
Oh, Laura’s lipsticks are great! I love her Stickglosses, especially. I’ve tried the cream eyeshadow in the tube before and they are comparable to MAC Paint. I like these cream duos just a little bit more, because I prefer having it in a compact rather than a tube!
BTW, have you tried her lipglosses? I love em!
desiree says
Hi Ladies, The shy violet quad is great if you are looking for purples. I am a freelance makeup artist for Laura here is a great tip.
tip: layer the gold metalic eye shadow onto lid under the shy violet, & use pearl as hi-lite, & a dab over mid-lid &/or inner corner lid. The gold warms up that quad & gives beautiful not over done shimmer. Enjoy!
Geraldine says
Hi Desiree,
Is the gold metalic shadow from Laura Mercier. Thanks for tip.
This is my first time using this collection.
Karen says
Hi Geraldine,
I think Desiree is referring to the Shy Violet quad from the Spring Collection. If you need shadow/product recs let me know. I have quite a few LM must haves in my makeup kit!
desiree says
Yes the metalic is Laura Mercier & yes I put it with the shy violet quad. Karen if you have some favorite Laura combo.’s eyes or lips Id love to hear them I can use them at my event this weekend. Thanks!
DFE says
Thanks for the swatches. None of the lip colors are new, though, unless they have been reformulated. They are part of her standard collection of 12 sheer lips that were launched at least seven years ago and as far as I know beem have been continuely available.
