Remember when Benefit discontinued their line of OG glosses last year? Man, that made me grumpy… Creamy purple Kiss Me was a staple o’ mine for years (I always wore it on first dates, heh!). The shade, pigment and non-sticky texture made it the stuff of lipgloss legend, and I’ve been mourning the loss ever since.
But Benefit didn’t leave us hanging for long. They promptly replaced the OG line with a new collection of super sheer glosses that I thought were a’ight, but they didn’t really make my heart flutter in that “I NEEDS IT!!” kinda way.
I was down to the last dregs of my last tube of Kiss Me earlier this month (all set to pour a 40 in my front yard in memoriam) when Benefit introduced the new Ultra Shines Lip Shines, and all I gotta say is, “OH, YEAH, b*tchezzz!”
Benefit glosses are BACK in the building. 🙂
Benefit Ultra Shines Lip Shines
The B-babes pumped up the pigment of these five ultra shiny shades, making them as richly colored as the old school glosses (if not more), and one of them even resembles Kiss Me, yay!
Swatches from left (for reference, I’m an NC35): Spiked Punch, Back to the Fuchsia, Wild Child (aka the Kiss Me dupe!)
Smooooove…
Just a wonderful texture. All three of the colors I’ve tried (creamy coral Spiked Punch, shimmery Back to the Fuchsia and light violet Wild Child) feel like a slinky silk cami against my lips. I’d describe it as a slightly thicker texture than the MAC Cremesheen glosses, one that may help to improve their wear time, which I clock at about four hours. Even adorably named Back to the Fuchsia, loaded with glitter, still feels creamy.
Wearing Wild Child… uh, I have NO IDEA what the hell’s going on with my hair
Thirsty?
If your pucker likes moisture, then the Ultra Shines are up to the task. I wore them all weekend long and didn’t feel the need to touch a tube of lip balm at all.
Back to the Fuchsia!
Smell that?
Benefit likes to perk up their glosses with fragrance, and these have a short-lived (about three minutes to fade) fruity vanilla scent that reminds me of raspberry Creamsicle. I like it, but my sensitive nose wouldn’t mind if they toned it down a tad. For what it’s worth, at least they’re unflavored, so it’s not a strong one-two punch.

On balance I think Benefit did an *awesome* job with these new glosses. 🙂 They might be a little pricey at $18, but that gets you a generously pigmented, easy-to-wear gloss with a silky smooth texture to boot. Look for them on Benefit counters beginning next month. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Memories
Thinking about Kiss Me gloss got me thinking about first dates and makeup and holy shizz! — I just realized I haven’t been on a first date in eight years! Wow, but I can still remember the makeup I was wearing on my first date with El Hub. 🙂
Do you have a set look that you like to wear on first dates? OOH! And if you’re already attached, can you remember what you were wearing the first time you and your boo went out?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I was in high school when my hubby and I (yup, high school sweethearts!) went on our first date so I am sure the only make up I wore back then was black pencil eyeliner! Oh, how times have changed, now I wear so many things on my face!lol

I like your hair in both pics!!! Im liking those glosses too!
We were kidding around that the hubs and I will be going on two dates (weddings) pretty soon – he will be in a dark grey suit (he has 2) and ill be in a grey dress for one and a blue dress for the other.
Were kinda excited… 😀

I love Back to Fuchsia on you! Spiked Punch is really pretty too 😀
For dates I usually keep it simple, like everyday. Bit of shimmery shadow, mascara, peach blush and a soft gloss. I don’t do bold makeup on an everyday basis so yeah!

i agree on the natural makeup part… they hopefully like you when you aren’t dolled up, or it’s not worth it IMO 😉
i like the benefit glosses too, but i’ve been on a weird lipstick kick lately…
i think your hair looks good – suits the name of the gloss, it’s like a sexy bedhead boho vibe!

Exaaactly – imagine when they see you with no makeup on! LOL! Jokes aside, I do natural everyday, I like doing more creative things for fun or on other people so yah. These glosses are perfecto for any time, though! Can’t wait to see the other colours 😉

Damn the glosses look too good! I think I need one of them…or two…or three.
You are not making my low/no-buy easy. I’d just gone two months without buying makeup before the Sephora sale…le sigh.

These are so pretty! I love Benefit products! Your hair looks great, I wish I could get mine to look like that!
My boyfriend and I met at the gym, and our first date was technically him asking me out for a drink after the gym, so I was all sweaty and gross, I prob just had on foundation and whatever makeup I had on that day at work 🙂

Back to the Fuchsia is the best name ever!
I remember my outfit and my perfume from my first date with my husband, and I remember touching up my makeup after my flight (I flew 3000 miles for our first date!) but I don’t remember the specifics — it was probably the same thing I do 4 out of 5 days. I’m a little predictable. 🙂

Wild Child looks DOPE! How does it compare to the light purple MAC Cremesheen glass (Ever So Rich)?
Nicole says
Benefit also has a lipgloss called Kiss You. Have you tried it? It’s a pigmented creamy lavender that looks more like a cool pink on the lips, I love it! And I think it’s way more similar to Kiss Me than Wild Child because there’s no glitter.
Nicole says
*By glitter I mean shimmer 🙂

Love the glosses. I’m so gonna get Wild Child 🙂 I’ve been married for 11 years, but I can rememer wearing MAC Sheer Plum on my first date with my husband. I still have a tube of that shade too and it always reminds me of that time in my life when I wear it.
Michelle says
I love that Wild Child shade!! I have been married for 13 years — we got married in college. Back then, I’m pretty sure I rocked the same Loreal eyeshadow quad every day. At least I did vary the lipstick, but I can’t remember exact shades 🙂

When I met my bf I had a look like Marylin Monroe, blond curls, super cute make up, red high heeled boots and a very short grey dress. I was hot, but I had no idea that I was going to meet him that night 😉

OH yeah I am so getting some of these with my Bene gift card. I had planned on going to Benefit in MV this weekend but I can hold off for a few weeks until these are available. I’ll just have to tweeze so I don’t become a Frida wanna be.
