So, I made a shoe pact with myself a few weeks ago in which I pledged, from now on, to only bring home new shoes that I can actually walk in.
A novel concept, I know. 🙂
I probably should have done it sooner, too, because I can barely walk in half the shoes I own.
But it’s not my fault (well, I mean it is). It’s the high heels! They’re the worst offenders. It’s too bad they’re such tasty eye candy…
The very uncomfortable Seychelles Squeak Sandal
So this pact of mine, I started doubting my commitment to it the other day at DSW, surrounded by aisle after aisle of sky-high heels. Then, the $49.95 Unisa Kami Wedge walked into my life.
I’d been on the hunt for a stylish, comfy pair of nude wedges to wear with jeans and spring dresses, and had visited a bunch of different stores and poked around online, but nothing really struck my fancy until I spotted these wedges.
I don’t know much about Unisa beyond the fact that they’ve been around for a while. The Kami, which is fashioned with faux leather straps and has a synthetic sole, comes in tan, white, black, dark brown and a neutral reptilian print.
As soon as I slipped on a tan pair and took a few steps around the store, I knew they were comfortable and a good height for me. The cork wedge measures about 3 inches tall, but because of the ½-inch platform, the heel feels more like a 2, or a 2½.
I love how stable I feel in these shoes, like there’s no chance I’m going to topple over, and I think it’s mostly because of the wedge, which is thicker than most of the other wedges I’ve worn.
The vintage-looking t-strap helps. It secures my heel better than slip-ons do, so that’s another nice plus.
The little flourishes in the design, like the curve detail on the heel and the crisscrossing straps above the toes, are other extra touches I like.
I am a little concerned about the overall construction, though… I hope the faux leather holds up.
After wearing these for about a week now, I’m still impressed. I think they’re comfortable and cute, but the straps have started to darken from nude to a deeper caramel in a few places (maybe it gives them some character?). If I could go back in time, I might have opted for a darker color, like the black or dark brown.
If you’re looking for a new pair of spring sandals and live near a DSW, stop by sometime and give these Kami wedges a try. 🙂
It’s cherry blossom time
I went for a cherry blossom jaunt around my neighborhood yesterday, looking for the prettiest blossoming trees.
Are there cherry blossoms blooming out yonder way? 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Last year I was in Paris when cherry trees were in blossom. This post reminded me of that wonderful time! Thank you:)

Oh, how nice! I love Paris, and I can only imagine that with the cherry blossoms that it’s that much more beautiful.

Those shoes are so cute! I have a $10 DSW coupon buring a hole in my wallet, so this gives me an idea of what to spend it on. A while back, I made that same pact with myself about uncomfortable shoes. I spend a lot of time in my new shoes and PJ pants walking around the house making sure they’re comfortable. 🙂

Time to make a trip to DSW!

ooh! I think these made the list of sisterly-bridesmaid-shoewear-suggestions…
The cherry blossoms are lovely! It *just* started warming up here in MT, so I’m crossing my fingers that we’ll see some buds soon…

These wedges are cute! I have this problem where I buy cute shoes, but never wear them, because they are too fancy. I keep forgetting that I never really go anywhere except to school and Trader Joes! 😛

Those shoes are super cute! As a vegan, I love that they are non-leather.

Karen, those shoes are gorgeous! I’m REALLY tempted to go to the DSW near my apartment once I’m done with classes XD I’m always in the market for nice new wedges 😀

Aaah cherry blossoms, so romantic!
I am a huge fan of nude wedges. I tried on a pair unknowingly at Nine West two summers back, and was amazed by how much longer they make my legs look, and they’re much lower than your pair too. I can only imagine you’re going to look like a model when you’re in those!

Cherry blossoms!? We will get them in 3 months! 🙁
I have one pair of Unisa shoes, strechy ballerinas. But they are actually too small for me, so I haven’t been able to wear them.

Your wedges are absolutely gorgeous! I’m always looking for the perfect new wedges! I have a few, but everytime I see a beautiful new pair in a shop my mind goes like ‘That’s the ultimate and perfect pair ever. Me. Wanna. Buy!!’.

The shoes are super cute and I’m also a big fan of the platform for stability and for comfort. The more cushion I can get for the balls of my feet, the better!
That’s great that it’s cherry blossom time – they’re some of my favorite trees. We were in DC a few years ago for their cherry blossom festival. Just beautiful. PS It’s 12 degrees here. The only thing blossoming are my goose bumps! 🙂

The wedges look so comfortable without compromising on style! i’m going to hunt for something similar in tan or beige!

I think those are flowering plum blossoms, it’s a little early for cherries yet! But they are still so beautiful, this is my favorite time of year, when the trees bloom. When the wind blows the blossoms and it looks like it’s snowing, love it!
These shoes are great! I’m with you, I can’t hardly walk in half the shoes I own, and that’s not cool! I volunteer at my daughters’ school twice a week, and a little bit of a heel is always good, especially around 4th graders! I’ve never been to a DSW, might be time to hunt one down! 😉

I LOVE wedges! They’re the only kind of shoes with height that allow me to go shopping in.

I just bought some Unisa wedges at Off Broadway Shoes yesterday – I was looking for more of a summery “shoe” wedge and tried on at least 20 different styles/brands but they weren’t comfy. And then I spotted the Unisa with its peep toe and pin-dotted silky flowery ornament at the toe and had to try them on. They were comfortable right away and then I had to force myself not to buy the two other colors including a linen color with leopard print silky flowery thing. I may go back for another color, though. They also had a navy and ivory stripe with a red silky thing at the toe. Super cute. And priced right too at $39.99.

The Unisa wedge I bought is the Abie. Just found the name. And they look better in person than in some photos I’ve seen.
