Maybelline Fit Me Blush in Medium Nude on cheeks
Things that can be hard to find: four-leaf clovers, true love, Bigfoot and blushes that deliver a natural cheek flush. This spring Maybelline intends to make one of them easier to find with Fit Me, their new line of blushes, foundations, concealers, powders and bronzers designed to simplify the process of finding your perfect shade.
What is the Fit Me process?
It doesn’t sound too revolutionary to me, but the idea is that they organize the products from light to dark in the display. Each row represents one shade intensity, with the lightest shades on top (row 100) and the darkest shades on the bottom (row 300). Each row will have the full range of foundation, powder, concealer, blush and bronzer for each shade intensity.
To further streamline the process, the product names are short and sweet. For the blushes, for instance, instead of cutesy monikers, Maybelline went with simple, straight forward names like “Light Pink” and “Medium Mauve.”
This afternoon, I took a quick look at four of the 12 blushes ($5 each; available in 12 shades) in Deep Rose (a matte reddish rose), Medium Nude (a shimmery pink), Deep Nude (a light matte peachy pink) and Light Pink (a medium matte peachy pink).
First row: Deep Nude and Light Nude; second row: Medium Mauve and Medium Coral; third row: Deep Coral and Deep Rose
First row: Medium Nude and Light Rose; second row: Light Pink and Light Mauve; third row: Medium Pink and Deep Mauve
Fit Me Blushes clockwise from the dark pink pan on the lower left: Deep Rose, Medium Nude, Light Pink and Deep Nude
Clockwise from the dark pink pan on the lower left: Deep Rose, Medium Nude, Light Pink and Deep Nude
Fit Me Blushes from the left without the flash: Deep Rose, Medium Nude, Light Pink and Deep Nude
With the flash
Judging by these four shades, sheer is the name of this game. I don’t see a ton of pigment of here. I had to build up these swatches to accurately convey the colors, but on my cheeks these blushes don’t look anywhere near as intense. With them I have to use several layers to achieve the flushed look I like, and even the darkest color, Deep Rose, takes three.
But they are easy to blend due to how sheer they are, and that’s a positive. I also like that the powders aren’t grainy.
As for the packaging of the blushes, it’s fairly sturdy plastic, but I find the cases difficult to open (I actually chipped a nail on one, boo!). And the brush Maybelline included isn’t gonna win any awards; it doesn’t apply color evenly.
On the plus side, the blushes I tested today did last a good, long while. About eight hours, so there’s that.
Bite down on this
Red flags go up any time there are sharp, shiny hooks around. That is to say, I paid a visit to the dentist today for a cleaning.
I know it’s good for my chompers and all, but that chair is probably one of my least favorite places in the world, blah! Got it out of the way though.
In other news, how was the rest of your hump day? Did you go to one of the MAC Wonder Woman release parties last night? I wanted to go, but I was plum tuckered out. If you went, did you bring anything home?
Oh, have you seen the animated intro on the MAC website? Pretty neat, huh? Don’t forget to turn up the sound!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

i own 1 maybelline blush and it was sheer as well, which i’m not a fan of. have you tried the fit me foundations yet? i’m curious to hear your opinion on them 🙂
BeautyMaven says
Not to intrude on Karen’s blog, but I did a review 2 days ago on the concealer and I really like it! Not the best one out there– but definitely the best drugstore one I have EVER tried! Blendable, buildable, and not cakey. Definitely worth a try at around $6!!
Karen says
Hi Dani,
I’ve got a few on the burners to test… hopefully the colors will work!
What foundation are you using now?
dani@callitbeauty says
can’t wait to see the review 🙂
right now i alternate between chanel vitalumiere, revlon colorstay, bare minerals, and laura mercier mineral powder.
Karen says
I need to try Vitalumiere one of these days… but seriously, do I really need to get hooked on another Chanel foundation? Probably not, LOL!
I’ve heard good things about Revlon Colorstay!

I love going to the dentist!
I only hate the part where I have my teeth flossed because it hurts like heck. I know I need to floss daily but flossing should not be that painful at the dentists!
Karen says
I remember you mentioning that. My dentist is actually pretty cool; I just have to work on getting over not getting so fired up when I’m in the chair. I’m pretty much your nightmare patient… tears, shaking, you name it.
The flossing I don’t mind so much!
Ashley says
Do you bite your dentist’s fingers too?
My file at the dnetal office probably says, “Constant drooler, finger bites, bad flosser”. Other than that, I’m an A-OK patient 😀
Karen says
Haha, no, for some reason that’s the one thing I don’t do. But crying… I soooo got that covered, LOL!
gio says
I actually like the look of these. I have very pale skin and I always have to be careful when applying blushes so as not overdo them so I’m always interested in new, sheer ones. The colors look lovely too.
Karen says
Great, Gio! I hope you find a few good colors.
Sarah Bokhari says
oh i like the look of deep rose, rest might look bit ashy on me
Karen says
Deep Rose is pretty but I totally had to build it up. It’s not one of those swipe-it-on-and-go type blushes, ya know?
Alexandra says
I had a crush for a maybelline blush about a year ago and now you reminded me of it. I can’t wait to try these, I like the peachy ones
Karen says
Good luck, Alexandra. I hope you find a color that works for ya!
Tiffany says
Ehh I like my blushes super pigmented!
I did order a few WW goodies – can’t wait for them to arrive!
Karen says
Hotness! Let me guess — you ended up with the MSFs and the blushes?
Tiffany says
Yep! Except only one blush – the aphrodite one. Can’t wait to try out the MSFs!
Karen says
That one’s my FAVE! The other peachy colored one is pretty too, but it’s sheerer.
I think you’ll really love the Pink Power MSF. It’s so great for a candlelit glow.
Kim says
I’m really liking my NARS orgasm so I’m sure I’ll be using that until the pan is empty. 🙂
I hope you gave yourself an after-dentist treat so you can train your brain to look forward to the visits because you get something lovely afterward!
You may have already mentioned this but I couldn’t find it. Will the MAC counters at Macy’s have the WW collection on 2/10?
Karen says
LOL, you know me so well. I ended up at Sephora… the trip help wash the trauma away.
Yup, MAC WW’s set to launch in North America on Feb. 10. I’d call the counter just to be sure; you might also want to ask if they’re doing any pre-sales to make sure that you can get what you want (I know they do that at Nordstrom).
Kim says
I’m glad you went – you deserve to end a scary day on a good note! 🙂
Thanks, I’ll check that out. We’ll be in Albany that day because the Hubs has an outpatient surgery. I already said “if you’re feeling up to it afterward, I’d like to hit the Macy’s counter at the mall to check out MAC’s WW”. He gave me the “you’re kidding, right?” look so I was quick to say “I’m sure you’ll be well medicated and if not, you can have a quick nap in the car while I run in”. He was very impressed. 🙂
Ruchita says
Thanks for reviewing these! I will probably check them out next time I’m at the store. I don’t like the look of heavy blush on me, so I don’t mind that they are kind of sheer. Also, it’s nice that they have a large selection of colors.
Karen says
You’re welcome, Ruchita.
Hmm, have you tried Neutrogena’s blushes? They’re a little more expensive, but they’re pretty good.
Melessa says
do you like them more than these? how do they compare?
Nina says
curious! ive been on the hunt for a drugstore blush that i can use to contour … ill check these blushes out when were done w/ snowdays LOL!
Karen says
They’ve got some bronzers that you could probably use for contouring as well. Let me know if you find anything good. 🙂
Nina says
it was on sale for 4.07 – so i got deep nude. i saw the bronzer but it looked shimmery (or it could be the grocery store lighting) …
ill play around w/ it later!
we got sent home early – snowstorm warning!
Karen says
Oh, nice. Gotta love it when you find bargain stuff that’s on sale. 🙂 Let me know what you think of it… I was thinking about reviewing it but am kinda reluctant because of the sheerness of the blushes.
Whoa, I hope that the weather isn’t too crazy out there! I bet the furkids are happy you’re home early.
Tracy says
I hate the dentist too. Like her a lot, but hate going.
I like my blushes pigmented, not so sheer. But these might be good for my really pale daughter.
Going to go watch the animation on MAC now!
Karen says
What did you think? Kinda cool, right?
Tracy says
Pretty cool!
Rachael says
I got overly excited about these when I saw them in the store, ULTA had them for 3 bucks! So I tried one out, I loved the idea that is was matte and had natual mauve colors that aren’t gradma-ish. I was let down I really had to work hard to get product onto my brush and it barely showed on my skin, I”m medium with olive undertones, and this blush didn not “fit me”.
Karen says
Yeah, I had to layer like crazy with these too.
Thanks for the heads up on the Ulta price. That’ll come in handy for the ladies who want to try it.
BeautyMaven says
I’ve never had luck with Maybelline powder blushes– I guess someone out there must like them since they’re not changing the formula!! They’re not too bad once you get them on, but I’m with you– you really have to work to get the product on the brush!
Karen says
Thank goodness for elbow grease and good blush brushes, LOL!
gwen says
hi karen,
i’m loving the minimalist look for this post. best no-makeup look i’ve seen in a long time. pls tell us how you do it!!!! thanks
Karen says
Hi Gwen,
I literally put that makeup on in ten minutes, took the picture and then rushed off to my dentist appointment, so, thanks! 🙂
First I evened out my skin tone with Chanel Mat Lumiere Soft Matte Makeup with SPF 15 and then used MAC Blot Powder to set and cut down the shine.
On the eyes I used YSL Fard Lumière Aquarésistant Water Resistant Cream Eyeshadow on the entire eyelid (applied with my finger) and then I swept the lighter side of the NARS Kalahari eyeshadow duo onto the lids and blended it up into the crease. To open up the eyes a little bit more, I applied NARS Hollywoodland Soft Touch Shadow Pencil along the lower lash lines, inner corner and on the browbone and blended it in with a finger. Then, to add a little more emphasis, I applied Laura Mercier Stormy Gray pencil along the lash and waterlines. To wrap up the eye look I applied Panthera mascara to my upper lashes.
On the cheeks I used the Fit Me Blush and lips NARS Super Orgasm Lip Gloss.
Tavi says
Karen, I’m glad you did a review on this, I’ve also been wondering how good the fit me foundations are? when you get a chance, will you be able to try those? thanks!
Karen says
Hi Tavi,
Funny you should mention this… I’m actually wearing it right now and testing it! 🙂
mkdallas says
The nude shades are really pretty and the price is certainly agreeable…I do like that they have all the components grouped together to help consumers pick the right shade. TMI sidebar: I really hate going to the dentist because I’ve had alot of cosmetic dentistry done that’s required hours of sitting in the chair. I got so nervous getting my teeth cleaned last week I had to pee 3 times while I was there, lol…I’m sure the hygienist was like, “WTF is wrong with this chick??” Ah, stress; who doesn’t love its many manifestations?
Karen says
Haha, I’m guilty of this as well. I always need to hit the loo at least once before/during/after being in that chair!
Paintthetownscarlet.wordpress.com says
This is a great range – a colour to suit every skin tone. I like!
Karen says
If you’re into sheer blushes then it should work great for you.
Vik says
These blushes, despite the easier color navigation, look like they’ll have the same problems that Maybelline’s blushes prior to this had. The brush is terrible, especially when paired with powder that’s barely pigmented. My skin’s fairly brown all year ’round so I need blushes with pigment and while the “Deep Coral” looked pretty in the pan, I don’t think it will even be worth the $5 to see how it’ll work. Do you think that a couple passes would work with the deepest shades on a mid-tone morena like myself?
Karen says
Hi Vik,
With the brush that’s included, probably not. You’ll probably have to use a fluffy brush brush, swirl it around in the pan a few times, and pack on a few layers. In the darkest shade here I had to use like three.
Have you ever looked at the Neutrogena Blushes? They have a few shades that look great on brown skin, like Raisin Glow.
Megan says
I’m actually in love with every shade in this collection, which is pretty rare. They are pretty sheer though. Sadly, I don’t have the ideal blush brush either. I’ve been using one from Coastal Scents lately. Which MAC brush is your favorite for the application of powder blush? I was thinking of getting the 116.
Frappo says
The shade Light Pink is absolutely invisible on me, and I am very pale. I didn’t follow their system, to be fair, but the blush looks like 100% nothing even after a very heavy application. Luckily I purchased at CVS, so I am going to try and exchange for Deep Rose. With a BOGO 50% offer and some ExtraBucks I got this blush and a Bouncy Blush for under $4, so I’m not too sad about it. For reference, the shade “nude” in all of Laura Mercier’s face products matches my skin really well. No MAC shade as they can’t match me. 🙁
