I’m not ready for the return of skinny, practically nonexistent ’90s-style brows (when I practically plucked mine into oblivion) because I’m enjoying the current big, bushy brow trend too much.
I JUST CAN’T, HOMIE! I hope the bushy brow trend lasts another two or three decades, but just in case it doesn’t, I’m going to “live in the now!” as they say, and embrace the current state of the brow-o-sphere. Hopefully the newly expanded Arch Brow Sculpting range by Hourglass is a sign that bold brows aren’t going anywhere soon.
Hourglass just added six new $32 permanent collection shades for fall 2015, bringing the total up to nine. There are colors for blondes, brunettes, gingers (I’m lookin’ at you, Chelsea!) and black-haired babes, and you can find them all now at Hourglass counters and online.

Hi Karen, thank you for the informative video anout the Hourglass brow pencil. Charlotte Tilbury has one also – it has the same shaped pencil, eyebrow brush and in the middle is a twist off highlighter (it’s the weaker part of the design). Likely similar to Tom Ford’s brow pencil. I like these products especially when travelling. I’m intrigued about the Hourglass product. Thanks again!

I have yet to try one of these, but it is so hard to get the color right of you cant see them in person before.

I really really want to try these pencils, it’s a fav of so many and Sunny from Mostly Sunny loves it 🙂
But…your eye makeup in this video is stunning. Do you mind sharing the details?

Hi Lady! Hope you’re having a nice weekend so far. I’m wearing Tarte’s Energy Noir palette. I have a review coming up but long story short — it’s great!

Hey Karen, thanks for the swatches! I was pretty sure I’ve found my soulmate in Soft Brunette, but now I am wondering if I have to give Warm Brunette a go because it’s really not that warm (and that’s a good thing).
I finally splurged on a Tom Ford one a while ago because you love it so much. I got Taupe, which is just a bit warmer than HG Soft Brunette, and for some reason that shade sits really well on me. Maybe it has something to do with the colors I’ve been wearing in the warmer weather, but I really dig it. Let me do some research and see if I need to try one of these new ones after all!

Hi Sunny, Karen,
I’m aware that this post is 2 years too late 😛 I was researching and hoping to find if there is any insight on how does the Hourglass performs against the Tom Ford Brow Sculptor. I loooove the Tom Ford Brow Sculptor but its expensive and it runs out rather quickly.
Any idea if Hourglass can compete with the Tom Ford one? 😛
Thank you!! <3

Yeah I don’t like those pencil thin brows either.

I recently bought one of these and I find I’m reaching for it more often than any of my other brow options. I usually go over it with either the Bobbi Brown or Anastasia brow gels in clear, depending on how much hold I want for the day. The Anastasia gel has major hold, but leaves my brows feeling a bit crunchy at first.

Hi Karen, thanks for the info, but I love love your lip colour. I had something similar years ago by Loreal but they’ve discontinued the colour. I’m in the hunt for a blue undertone fuchsia/magenta lipstick. Any advice & do tell what colour & brand you have on.
Thank you

Hi Judy!
I’m wearing NARS Janet Lipstick. 🙂

Hmmm, I wonder how the auburn would mix with my natural brow shade. I’m not sure how it would look?

Ooooh, I like the looks of these. I really like that they added Warm Blonde and Auburn. It’s so hard to find redhead friendly shades. The precision point and stiffer texture really appeal to me, too. I’m considering splurging on one. I have yet to find my Holy Grail brow product. 😉

I am a coppertop and I tried these out on my hand when I was wasting time in the store over the weekend. They are in no way close to appropriate shades for a redhead. They are basically, IME, gray or taupey shades. They’re not warm at all. I was really disappointed.
The best red brow products I’ve found are from Brett Freedman, he really nailed it on the color. I use the Gingerella single brow powder. Literally the perfect color for me. I’ve hoarded it since he’s going with duos now. I buy from his site directly though.
I also have a jar of the It Cosmetics brow stuff in Auburn, it’s a browner shade, but it works in a pinch on its own. The Armani brow maestro jar is REALLY bright and a little too orangey, and I actually mix it with the It jar in a separate tiny jar. About 70-30 so I get a realistic mix. That works pretty well, and since the Armani has a little shimmer, when it’s on it looks a little more realistic like hairs.

Hi, Ame. Thanks for the info. I haven’t yet tried any of the brands you suggestioned, so I’ll check them out.
Just For Redheads has a great shade range, but the pencils are so creamy they don’t work great with my oily skin. LORAC’s auburn is better than JFR, but still a bit too soft and orange. I’ve tried other brands’ warm browns, plus some eyeshadows, but nothing is just right. Most products are too cool, too orange, or too dark for what I want.
I’m naturally a medium-dark brunette, but my hair sun bleaches to bright red so easily that I just color it medium red-leaning auburn (L’oreal Hi-Color Red Hot). It suits my very fair skin, freckles, and hazel/green eyes. (There are redheads in the family.) I find an auburn shade mixed in with my brows just brings it all together and looks more natural.

I think I ended up using the spooly way more than the product itself. My pencil was so hard the product wouldn’t even lay down and pulled at the individual hairs. I recently switched to Anastasia’s Brow Whiz, the petite tip is more to my liking. Despite the larger shade offering I’m going to have to give these a miss.

Ahh, you mentioned me! I’m famous!

I love the look of these! I’ve recently started paying more attention to my brows, so I may splurge on one of these.

I just received 3 new Mirabella brow pencils for review, but nothing for a redhead like me. I hate to have to pay $32 for a brow pencil but I may have to take a look. I misplaced my MAC gel for redheads, so I’ve been using a Milani lip pencil!

Thanks for the info on the Hourglass brow pencils. I am always looking for something to make my brows look better and a little fuller. But it’s hard to get something complimentary to my strawberry blonde locks. I will definitely check these out. btw, can’t wait to hear about the Sephora class. My sister and I have been wanting to do something like that. Let us know all the details. Hope it was super fun!

Try the Brett Freedman Gingerella products. They should still be on his website. He does redhead brow products like no one else!
Pamela Haddad says
Thanks, Ame, I will check it out!
