The Battle of Karen vs. Dry Skin is raging, ladies! And my skin needs help, fast. It’s time for a full-on blitzkrieg against scaliness.
I wasn’t sure if the new Johnson’s 24-Hour Moisturizing Body Wash and Body Lotion ($6 each) would be up to the task. My skin needs heavy hydration, especially the skin on my legs (my driest area!), and especially in winter.
In winter my legs get so dry that iguanas envy me, but after using both the 24-Hour Body Wash and Lotion for a week things changed.
I’ve got soft and smooth legs for a change, yes!
Johnson’s 24-Hour Moisturizing Body Wash
Moisturizing Body Wash looks and feels creamy and rich. It’s a low-lathering wash, so don’t expect lots of big foaming bubbles, but it rinses clean and doesn’t leave a noticeable residue.
Now, the humungo 20.3 fl-oz. bottle is bigger than Ernest Hemingway’s ego, but because it’s so big I feel like I’m getting a good deal. I even tried to see how it would work as an emergency shave cream, and it worked great. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
Johnson’s 24-Hour Moisturizing Body Lotion
Moisturizing Body Lotion penetrates quickly and leaves my skin feeling smooth but not waxy. I think it’s a fantastic hydrating body lotion. I like to apply it after rinsing and towel drying. Like the monstrous Body Wash, it’s not gonna win any awards for travel convenience (14 fl-oz. bottle), but you get a lot of product for your money. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
Johnson’s packed both products with hydrating shea butter and vitamin E and infused them with a pleasing light rose scent. I think they’re fantastic drugstore deals. 🙂

Hey Karen,
I can’t believe you just compared body lotion to Ernest Hemingway’s ego. I just love it. I do. XD 😀
I might get around to trying this out pretty soon. Right now, I’m pumping away at my Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion, but I have to layer it three to four times to get any results, so I’m pretty sure it’ll run out quickly. Have you ever tried Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula? It really works wonders for me, but the smell leaves me nauseated, so I’ll just revert back to straight Jojoba oil somedays. Long story short – I’ll love to try this.
I can’t wait to see all the upcoming MAC collection releases and posts soon! 😀

Ooohh I’d like to try this stuff! I have pretty sensetive skin so I stay away from scented products and use Johnson’s a lot. I love the stuff! Do these have that “baby lotion” smell?

I absolutely love this stuff! I am using the Deep Hydrating 24 hour moisture wash (with the yellow top) and the 24 hour moisturizer. Love them both!

Hm, I’m going to try the lotion. I’m always looking for a simple drugstore moisturizer that works. Nivea cream is also great–it’s very thick though so may not pass your waxy test…perfect for elbows and really dry spots. It’s my staple for winter.
Happy Monday!

Hi Indian Girl,
Yes, I’ve tried Curel. I used to love it until they changed the formulation last year!

Hi Elena,
🙂 LOL… yeah, I just watched a bio on him on A&E!
I have tried Palmer’s Cocoa Butter in the past and like you I can’t get over the smell. Normally I’m all over chocolate scented stuff but there’s something very powder about it that my nose doesn’t like.
Karen says
Hi Tiera,
I totally expected it to have the signature baby lotion smell but it doesn’t. It smells lightly of roses.
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
Yah! It’s good stuff for the price. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Nessa,
I haven’t tried the stuff with the yellow top! I’m sure I’d like it though!
Karen says
Hi Tanya,
I used to use Nivea cream back in the day. For some reason my skin drinks it right up and keeps demanding more, LOL. That’s great that it works for ya… I know it’s a holy grail product for so many women!
You have a happy Monday, too!

I have the one with the beads, it’s really yummy and hydrates my skin really well (the body wash, that is!) The foam feels like whipped cream on my skin, which is the bonus. And yes, the bottle is huge!

My SIL uses a Johnsons baby lotion on my wee little niece’s…the bottle is white, the lettering purple, and it smells sooo good. Different than all the other Johnsons baby lotions, but similar. She says she buys it at the one grocery in our area that I avoid (too crowded) and I can’t find it anywere else. So nice – I will have to brave the crowds and go get it.

Good to know! I love Jergen’s shea butter body lotion!

Hi Karen, I love and hate your website. Love it because you recommend great stuff, and hate it because I HAVE to get the stuff you talk about. 🙂 I use this lotion too, but more for hydrating on a hot day like when you don’t want to feel all greased up. I find for my super super dry skin that there is nothing like Palmer’s unscented cocoa butter (I just don’t like the strong smell). My dry/ashy winter skin has gone for good since I started using it like 2 years ago. I keep some in my shower, in my purse, at my desk, in my car,…it’s crazy I know, but it works and they sell all sorts of different sizes too!

Hi, Karen
Great recommendation! I have super scaly skin (gross, I know) on my legs in the winter. This duo sounds like they might be able to help. I don’t remember seeing them at my local drugstore though, so I am wondering if they are only available in the US?
On a side note, I know how much of a Christian Bale fan you are. I was too until I heard this audio:

Warning: Listen at your own risk. It’s full of profanities and has totally killed all CB’s hotness in my eyes =[
Have a great rest of the week!

I noticed that it’s not just the lotion/creams that I use but how I apply. I find that applying right out of the shower while still wet and then again when my skin is dry seems to work.

Absolutely love Johnson’s body care line. Their “Forever Fresh” is love love love.

Hi Marmar,
I haven’t tried that one yet! I will give it a sniff next time I’m at the drugstore.

This is my favorite baby wash. I’ve used all kinds, and I like this one even better than the more expensive natural ones like Tom’s and California Baby
