I’ve been on a serious Boots kick 🙂 lately that really kicked into high gear when I gave their Expert Sensitive Cleansing & Toning Wipes a try.
Target now carries at least, like, six different varieties of Boots makeup wipes… And I’m on a mission to test them all!
Last week I started using their biodegradable Quick Fix Cleansing Wipes, which Boots packed with botanicals like mallow to sooth and calm the skin.
First, the good stuff: I just love the way they smell and feel; the light, soothing scent reminds me of baby powder. Super soft, they don’t cause my skin to tighten up after using them, and they don’t leave a greasy residue, either.
When it comes to removing most types of makeup, they get the job done, making relatively quick work of lipsticks, blushes, eyeshadows, liners and full-coverage foundations, and they do so without requiring a lot of elbow grease to use.
That said, I think they work a little slower than Boots Expert Sensitive wipes do, but they smell and feel so pleasant that I really don’t mind.
As for how they fare against mascaras and long-wearing gel liners? That’s a less awesome story. Quick Fix struggles to remove even regular mascaras (much less waterproof varieties), forcing me to use a separate eye makeup remover when I’m done (a step I can skip when I use the Expert Sensitive wipes).
Now, are they worth $7? Given the way they feel, the baby powder fragrance and the fact that they’re biodegradable, I think so. At least they’re probably worth a try.
I think the Expert Sensitive wipes have them beat in a few important ways, but if you don’t mind having to use a separate eye makeup remover, they might be your cup o’ tea. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

I’m still on a mission to find the PERFECT wipes. I haven’t found one yet — have you??
.-= HC’s last blog post… AT LEAST I HIT PAN…??! =-.

hey HC,
my favorites:
1. MAC wipes
2. the body shop vitamin e cleansing wipes
3. clean and clear makeup dissolving wipes
4. plain old baby wipes (for days with light makeup)
personally i love the MAC wipes because if you buy the bulk package, it works out to less than most drugstore wipes (i did a review comparing it to olay daily facials express – http://lareinarumbera.blogspot.com/2009/11/drugstore-vs-department-store-mac-wipes.html)… good luck in your search!

Hi HC,
I’ve tried a bunch and found several that I like. 🙂 I keep trying new ones because it gives me an excuse to review stuff, LOL!
Here are a few that I love:

Hope this helps!

hey karen!
if you’re in the market for great budget wipes, give clean & clear’s version a try. they’re surprisingly luxurious and the formula doesn’t leave my sensitive-combo skin irritated or breaking out!
the body shop’s vitamin e cleansing wipes are amazing too – your skin is so soothed afterwards.

Hi Ines,
Yup, I tried those a while back. They were just okay for me (didn’t handle waterproof products very well).
Here’s the review:
$6 Clean and Clear Makeup Dissolving Facial Wipes Do Double Duty
ines + cha cha says
hmm i don’t wear very much makeup during the day, which is why i think they worked well for me (and i wear tubing mascaras during the day so they don’t come off with MU remover anyhow)…
when i do wear more than usual, i always remove with a oil-based remover like LUSH ultrabland & cotton dipped in warm water, which always does the trick. ultrabland is nongreasy once you wipe it off and you don’t need to rinse, so it’s actually very good when you’re on an airplane (and the natural butters and oils in it are moisturizing, so those with oilier skins may not even need to moisturize afterward).

Karen,
I’ve been using the Soap & Glory wipes are these better?

The Soap & Glory ones are better than the Boots Quick Fix wipes, for sure!

Thanks for the review Karen 🙂 I’m going to give the Expert Sensitive wipes a go since you gave it such a great review and I have sensitive skin and wear waterproof eye make up. I’ve always used a face wash to remove my make up at night before going to bed. This past Christmas I went to England to spent the holidays with my hub’s fam. I went out one night with his lil sis and all her friends and when we all got home, all 3 of them used wipes to remove their make up, I was intrigued, but have yet to try it out for myself. My friends and I all use a face wash or make up remover. I’ll let you know how a like it 😛
Karen says
Sounds good, Van. I think you’ll like ’em… they’re great for nights when you’re in a hurry to get to bed, or just feeling lazy.
Scientific Housewife says
I’ve always wanted to try Boots stuff from Target but have never seen any reviews on the stuff. I’ll have to try one of these out!
Karen says
Let me know if you find anything good! 🙂

This was very helpful Karen! I was looking for a replacement for my belooooved MAC wipes as they are super $$$ along with everything else in Norway. In particular, most makeup/skincare stuff is 70% to 300% marked up from US prices… *sob sob sob*
So yes… I’ll check out the Expert Sensitive Wipes next time I’m in Boots! 🙂
Karen says
You’re welcome, Lesley. I think you’ll love ’em. I’m very particular about my wipes, and I think they’re pretty comparable! 🙂
Fieran says
Hi Lesley,
I’ve been using the baby wipes in ICA supermarket as my last minute, quick make up remover. They work quite well, but I usually use 2 sheets.
Alison says
I don’t know if you get them in the US but the Simple cleansing wipes are really good and remove most eye-makeup easily too
Karen says
Hi Alison,
Yup, Simple Wipes are available here!

I’m sorry! I didn’t realise you’d done a review of them! Duh!

No worries, Alison. 🙂

I tried the Boots Expert Sensitive wipes a try on your recommendation and have enjoyed using them. They do a great job at getting everything off. I am waaaay lazy at bedtime and face wipes save me from going to bed with gunk on my face.
Karen says
Hi MKDallas,
No doubt! I get super lazy too… I actually keep an extra package near my couch, so that when I’m watching TV I can also take all my makeup off. 🙂

From what I’ve tried so far the line’s pretty cool.:)

Ooo i’m definitely going to try boots wipes now …i work for boots in the uk part time, and i’ve not really tried much from the brand as i’ve not been impressed by the ones i’ve used in the past (but that’s totally my own fault as i’ve only used thier bog standard, cheapest ones!) i’m always looking for ways to take advantage of my discount! (esp as a student on a budget!)
loving your blog as always karen, i think you’ve got the best one out there! i love how every product that i’ve been thinking about you’ve covered on here! you seem really sweet 🙂 and thanks for your liberty of london posts we FINALLY got it out here and i’ve placed my order online, really excited to get it 🙂
btw, i use johnson’s 3 in wipes at the moment, they’re pretty good 🙂 x
Karen says
Hi Em,
Definitely pick up a package of Expert Sensitive. They work like a charm… with your discount you should be able to get ’em for a steal.
And I’m also so glad to hear you guys finally got Liberty of London, yay! What did you order?
em says
i’ve been pretty bad actually got a bit too carried away (but couldn’t resist! i justify that this was the first mac collection i’ve bought anything from!)
i got the shell beauty, ever hip lipstick, frankly fresh lipgloss and the teal and purple eyeshadow 🙂 veryy excited for them!
Karen says
Ooh, all those are LOVELY. You won’t be disappointed. 🙂
Once you get ’em in let me know what you think about them! I have a feeling you’ll loooove the Shell Beauty Powder. 🙂
NINA says
Why yes I have tried the Boots Quick Fix Cleansing Wipes!!! I got them @ Target when I got my Soap and Glory Wipes.
Performance is about even, with Soap and Glory being the better of the two. Pricewise, I feel they are both quite affordable.
But I also gave in and got a pack of the Kirkland makeup remover wipes from Costo. I think this is the most affordable of all the wipes around, and performance is at par if not better!!!
Karen says
I have a friend who swears by those!
Nina says
Theyre pretty awesome and the price makes it even more so! 🙂
Connie says
I need to try the Expert Sensitive (Was I the only one who though sensitive=less effective?) wipes. I have a large pack of the Mac wipes but those sucker sting my eyes!!
Karen says
Ooh, what a bummer! That happens to me with certain wipes. 🙁
Hope that these work out for you… and if they don’t, at least they aren’t too expensive, ya know?
Rae says
These sound great, Karen! Thanks for posting the ingredients list — it can be pretty hard to track those down for some items, and I have to hound them like madwoman, with all the allergies and sensitivities in my house 😛
Hope you’re having a great week!! (I’m not sure about yours, but mine just started today, as we had Easter Monday as a holiday. I was surprised to find out that not all Canucks did!)

Karen you should check the boots website. If you see products you like.Maybe you could write to them, and they will bring them out in the US.

I never tried boots brands wipes, but it sounds great. I use Neutrogena rapid clear acne treatment pads after cleansing my face. May be I should try it because it does a great job for cleaning your face and removes all the dirt.
