These Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color lipsticks sure take me back…
The year: 1991. I’m a sophomore in high school. Kids are wearing tacky acid-washed overalls, and Color Me Badd reigns supreme.
Oh, no you di’int!
My good friend Jen and I shared a lab table in biology class, and we’d start and end every class the same way, by applying our favorite Wet n Wild lippies.
Those first generation WNW lipsticks weren’t the greatest (my tummy churns just thinking about that faux rose scent and plastic flavor), but they were hella cheap, which was why we always had at least one tube stuffed into our Liz Claiborne bags.
That was a long time ago… A lot’s changed since then, but some things remain the same. Jen and I still wax philosophic about makeup and beauty (although now we do it by blog, e-mail or text), and Wet n Wild is still a viable drugstore makeup option for ladies looking to save a few bucks.
Another thing that’s changed? Wet n Wild. The brand recently reinvented itself, ramping up the quality of their products by several notches, and the improvements are obvious in their long-wearing Mega Last Lip Color lipstick line.
Available in 20 shades, ranging from subtle nudes to electrifying hot pinks and reds, these matte, long-wearing lippies are still affordable, costing just $3 each, but the formula now contains moisturizing and smoothing ingredients like Coenzyme Q10, a vitamin-like substance used to boost skin’s natural ability to repair and regenerate cells.
Based on the colors I’ve tried — Think Pink (a baby pink), Rose Bud (a medium rose) and Mauve Outta Here (a cool blueish mauve) — Wet n Wild’s come a long way, baby. 🙂
They’re highly pigmented, unflavored, unscented and last a solid three to four hours on the lips.

Wet n Wild took a HUGE step forward with these, for sure, but I think the texture and formula could still use a little refinement.
They feel a tad too thick and heavy for my liking, with color that fades unevenly over a few hours of wear. Along my lip line, for instance, the colors will maintain good pigmentation, but they’ll almost completely fade everywhere else. Plus, after a day spent wearing these, my lips tend to feel a little drier and tight.
They may not set my world on fire anymore, but I like ’em for $3 each! 🙂
Next time you’re in the mood to try a new matte color but don’t want to overspend, keep Wet n Wild in mind. Available at drugstores nationwide. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B
You might like the Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color lipsticks if…
- You like matte lipsticks with opaque color

- You prefer your lippies unscented and unflavored
- You want something that will last at least a few hours on your lips

homegirl…Color Me Badd was my first concert – at age 12 at the state fair…
Karen says
Shut it down! I once went out on a date with a dude who was CMB’s number one fan. He had all their CDs and saw them in concert about a billion times. Maybe he was also at the state fair show with you.
Steph B says
Remember when they were on 90210?
Karen says
I think I remember that episode.
Remember the epic Kelly/Dylan/Brenda love triangle?
Diana says
OMG! Don’t forget it’s also where Donna found her mom cheating on her dad! LOL!
Citrine says
I like rose bud and mauve outta here. I hope they would come up with some brighter shades though…
Karen says
Some of the shades are pretty darn bright…
Michaela says
It’s funny, but when I tried these, it was literally like wearing an old, dried-up Crayola crayon on my lips- sooo waxy and uncomfortable.
Which was sad, because the colors were so pretty. Maybe I got an expired or dried-up tube?
Karen says
Hey Michaela,
I think I know what you’re talking about. If I lay on too much then it starts to feel really waxy and heavy. You could always try dotting the color lightly onto the lips to create a stain, or maybe do a light layer applied with a lip brush.
Ashley says
I was really excited when I bought one of these in Just Peachy but when I tried it, it caught onto some dry flakes I didn’t notice on my bare lips. I tried exfoliating once before applying this over a lip balm but it STILL catches onto the drier parts of my lips. I mean, my lips aren’t all that dry but this lipstick makes it 100x worse. I wish it worked for me cause some of the colors are REALLY eye catching 🙁
Karen says
Hi Ashley,
Hmm, maybe try doing a very light layer using a lip brush? I’ve found that helps a lot.
Kymberlee says
Wow that takes me back to junior high! Looks like they’ve changed the packaging since the last time I bought their lipstick.
I do have to say that I love their lipliner in 666. For .99, you can’t beat the price!
Karen says
Kymberlee! I looove that lip pencil and have been wearing it since 1995. It’s great with Clinique’s Black Honey!
gina1234 says
I am confessing. I will not look @wnw now but back in the day that was all I wore.
I cannot tell you the # of eyeliners I soaked in baby oil or burnt with a match just to soften it up so that I could wear it. ;-/
Diana s. says
lol! Me too! I remember burning my eyeliner then blowing it a bit so I wouldnt burn my waterline!
Kim says
I admit to being part of that crowd too! Ahh, youth! 🙂
Karen says
I had a friend who always carried a lighter so she could always soften her wnw liner!
knownever says
think pink is one of my favorite lipsticks. the formula is weaker than some of the other colors but it’s a great dupe for some MAC and YSL colors
Karen says
I bet it’s really pretty with the right lip liner and gloss layered on top too!
knownever says
Yea gloss and pre lipstick exfoliation is the key to wearing these.
lesliemystylist says
Fun! Cant wait to scoop these up!!
Karen says
Let me know what colors you end up getting. 🙂
makeup morsels says
Rose Bud is such a pretty color! I have a feeling these would make my lips look really dry, though. I’m really impressed with Wet&Wild’s new eyeshadow palettes. I haven’t tried them yet (can’t say I need another eyeshadow. I should at least try to hit pan on one first), but the swatches and reviews look impressive.
Karen says
Their eyeshadows are really good for the price. So pigmented!
Vanessa H says
How fun! Rose Bud looks like a friendly color :-). These might be good to wear over liner or lip balm.
Jordana clear gloss was my first makeup item, and every time I see it, it makes me feel 12 again lol.
Karen says
Aww, isn’t it nice to have drugstore makeup memories? 🙂
Michelle says
Yes — I loved Liz Claiborne bags. I remember having a $35 Liz Claiborne purse and thinking it was the epitome of high end. LOL! I always had a few W&W lipliners (hello, to the *heavy* and obvious lipliners) and lipsticks. Good to know they are improving the products 🙂
Karen says
Mine was taupe with a round shape and a long, across the body strap! I remember slinging it across my torso and dancing with it while It Takes Two played at the school dance, ha ha ha!
Michelle says
We totally knew all of the lyrics to It Takes Two . . . love Rob Bass — especially the part “I’m not internationally known, but I’m known to rock the microphone . . . I get stupid, I mean outrageous, stay away from me if you’re contagious” . . . LOL, the memories!!
Karen says
That song is still my jam. We played it at my wedding, LOL…
Tomi // my tiger lily makeup says
Ah! I’m gonna look out for these! So cheappp – which of the three colors do you reccomend?
Kiana says
Haha. Oh man. The bad thing is….I was born in 1991. I didn’t even know Wet and Wild was around then! But these look hella cute. I might zip on by and pick up a couple 😀
melissa says
heck yeah! i always turn my nose up at wet n wild…i know, i know, how snobby of me! i just figured $cheap=cheap quality. but i have been looking for that oh so perfect nude pink and i havent found one yet that is just right! they’re all too frosty, too barbie, too porn star…ya know what i mean. thanks for this karen! i’m hitting the drugstore tomorrow just for think pink! woohoo!
melissa says
oh my gosh, how did you get think pink to look so good on you?? it looks sooooo pink on me–like something that would be in a 5 year old’s play makeup kit 🙁
Marilyn @ Lipgloss and Spandex says
Oh Wet n Wild… I totally owned a few of their lipsticks when I was little. And eyeliners. And a lip liner. Their brand has definitely come a long way. It’s definitely not high end, but it’s really good for the price! I just picked up some blush and bronzers for $4 each, and they’re nice.
Agnes says
ive been pretty impressed with wetnwild products lately. their eyeshadows have taken me by suprise and these arent all that bad either! im loving think pink but am really craving rose bud! my drugstore didnt carry that color 🙁 guess we always want what we dont have! haha but thanks for the swatches 😀
gio says
I didn’t like Wet n Wild products when I was younger but lately I’ve rediscovered this brand. They have really improved their products which impressed me. Rose Bud and Move Outta Here look pretty, I think I’ll try of those. I always wear a lip balm underneath so hopefully the lippie won’t feel too drying and uncomfortable then.
Nina says
Why yes I have! I have it in Rose Bud which is the cutest color ever. The price and pigmentation cannot be beat on this one! 🙂
yangtanw says
“I adore…. Mi amore…. ” LOL
I got think pink and just peachy. Though I love the colors, I do feel that they’re too drying for my lips. But there’s always lip balm to the rescue… I should try applying using a lip brush to prevent that waxy and heavy feel. thanks for the tip. Just peachy is a good dupe for Mac’s Jazzed… and they both feel dry on my lips!
WNW single shadow in Brulee is a HG… it works just as good as Mac’s!
Chrissy says
Ohhhhhh Karen you are so right on cue for me!!! I was just in Wally World checking these out last week, but I ended up being too scared to try them. I mean, why waste a few bucks on junk when I could use it on something I *know* I’ll like, right?
Anyway, I am definitely gonna pick me up one of these in “Think Pink” the next time I’m at a store with a WnW display. Maybe I’ll have to make a quick pit-stop today for that very purpose :0)
T says
I saw a VH1 or was that MTV? episode of Where Are They Now? and wow, the lead singer of Color Me Bad looks so different from back then. I couldn’t even recognise him. He gained some weight and his eye brows are in one piece. LOL
I like the WnW lipsticks. I apply them lightly though.
Melissa W. says
I like Mauve Outta Here! I’m okay in general with Wet n Wild lipsticks. When applied lightly over gloss they look pretty decent.
I laughed at the Color Me Badd video. Back then I was a metal girl though, haha. I had some bright fuchsia-purpley Wet n Wild lipstick then. Oh man.
Courtnie says
Ohman. I remember this being the only brand to carry black lipstick and nail polish year round. Gotta love that 90s goth phase.
Karen says
Ha ha! I remember that phase fondly. I actually lined my lips with black eyeliner and then filled them in with dark, matte red lipstick.
kali says
OMGosh CMB! I love this song!!
I really like the shades from the line -I own 2 of them. I’m just super scared to try them again because the first time I did months ago, my lips were cracked and peeling for the next nearly 2 weeks. The only “new” product I had used were these lipsticks. It could’ve been something else but I’m so scared of that happening again.
Karen says
Oh noes! Hmm, maybe stick to the eyeshadows? They’re very pigmented, cheap and all kinds of awesome.
marisol says
Random thought… remember when Color Me Badd was on 90210? 🙂
Ana says
I love some of WNW’s new products, and their gel eyeliner is fabulous… but I got one of these lipsticks a while ago and was really disappointed. It was soooo dry. Maybe I just got a bad one? Glad it only cost a few bucks because I might as well throw it away at this point.
You’ve GOT TO TRY the tinted lip balms by Palladio, Karen!! They are sooo buttery soft and smooth & give almost as much pigment as a lipstick 😀
Stavroula Plag says
Rose Bud looks amazing with your coloring! 😉

Anita says
I got three of these today 🙂 I got think pink, then two other colors but the color name seems to not be on the packaging…I got the deep red color and the dark dark purple color. both are awesome but the shape of the bullet is awful >.<
Vanessa says
After seeing these on Karen, I bought “Just Peachy” – 903C. It is so gorgeous. It’s a nice blend of nude, pink and peach.
Karen says
I’m glad you like Just Peachy! Aren’t these shadows fab? They’re so cheap and have fantastic payoff.
monica says
LOVE stoplight red. Its my new favorite red and lasts FOREVER . I can wear it a whole day without even a touch up. And with a lipstick sealer, I can wear it a full 24 hours. No Joke. this stuff rocks.
Mimi says
I love W&W products because they have done such a good job re-vamping their quality. Their eyeshadows are available in a variety of colors, constantly being cycled in and out for MORE variation! Plus they stay just as long as a high-end eyeshadow and blend just as well from my experience.
