I haven’t lived the single life in a while, but dangit if I were on the prowl I’d so rock Guess by Marciano. Maneater aptly describes the way I feel wearing this scent.
I usually think of myself as the girl next door — ya know, the quirky one in t-shirt and jeans who drinks beer, watches reality TV and writes lists — but when I wear Guess by Marciano I feel transformed, like a cougar on the prowl! Rrraaooowww! Ft! Ft!Â
Just what makes this spicy floral so darn sexy? I suspect the fruity top notes (the first blast of fragrance) mellow out the musky base notes (the finale). The resulting fragrance is neither cloying nor overly sweet.Â
Top notes — star fruit, grapefruit, orange curacao (an orange-flavored liquour) and cardamom (an herb belonging to the ginger family)
Middle notes –pink honeysuckle, peony and jasmine
Base notes — wood, vanilla, musk and dulce de leche (caramel)
I don’t have many spicy fragrances (piquant or pungent scents like clove oil, cinnamon or thyme)Â in my perfume collection because, for some reason, they make me sneeze! But my nose agrees with Guess by Marciano. No sneezing whatsoever.
It also has enough endurance to last all day long. I sprayed it on in the morning, and as I sniffed at my wrist throughout the day, there it was. The scent does change, though — a whiff of jasmine at lunch, and then vanilla and musk appeared later in the afternoon.
Product: Guess by Marciano eau de parfum

Random Makeup and Beauty Blog Confession Number 0001: The last time I wore anything by Guess I was a teenager in the late 80s and early 90s; my favorite outfit was a very fetching pair of overalls (with matching denim jacket!), acid-washed to oblivion. I looked for one of the many embarassing pics of me wearing this fashion travesty of an ensemble, but they’re all in boxes at my parents’ house.
My days hunting hotties are behind me (married to one, awww!) but girls, seriously, if you’re on the prowl, give this fragrance a try. Even if you’re not on the hunt, Guess by Marciano is still a great, badass scent. It just brings out the attitude! — simultaneously sexy and ready to lay the smack down. I can feel the badassness coursing through my veins!Â
Guess by Marciano sells as an eau de parfum, a body lotion ($30) and a body butter ($35). Give it a sniff at your nearby Macy’s or purchase it online.
I really wanted to do more vegging today, but productivity reared its ugly head. I needed groceries, so I paid a visit to my all time favorite grocery store, Trader Joe’s (aka my home away from home). Now I intend to enjoy some of the spoils of the trip: a bag of Cheese Crunchies ($1.39 for a bag, wow!) and bottle of Phuket beer, woot!
What’s for dinner tonight? More importantly, can I come over? I’m too lazy to cook, LOL!

I smelled the perfume stripe in Marie Claire and it’s a bit too strong for me. Kimora has a new perfume too and it’s also too strong. I checked out Mediterranean Breeze yesterday and it smells like water. It lacks the beauty that the original one has.
If you want some spicy perfume, Valentino V is a nice one. It’s been out for a while now but it’s definitely a nice perfume.

Sal says
I believe the Ft! Ft! are paw swipes. Claws out, of course.
Or I could be completely wrong.. hm.
Glosslizard says
I gotta try it! I totally have my Fft! Ft! moments! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Dao,
Originally I thought this was going to be too strong as well, but when I sprayed it on it was nothing like what I smelled from the bottle. It’s actually very pretty and not overwhelming at all.
Ahhh, I guess you and I differ on those watery scents. I love em!
I haven’t smelled Valentino V (cause spicy scents aren’t usually my thang) but I will put this one on my list to things to sniff.
Hope you’re having a good Monday!

Hi Iheartmakeup,
Yay! Spring is a great time to update the fragrance wardrobe, girl! Do you have a favorite spring scent?

Hi Glosslizard,
Yah girlfriend! You might dig it if you like ze spice! The bottle is pretty too, and I love to look at it!

Last night I gave Guess a second chance and today I still smell it on my wrist. The base notes are similar to Valentino V IMHO. There is a spicier version of V which smells like old people’s perfume. The original one is nice. I’m not a spicy perfume person either, after I was scarred by Burberry Brit which smells wonderful on one of my friends.
Karen says
LOL, OPP = Old People’s Perfume. When I think of OPP I think of Chanel No. 5 (which I plan on rocking when I’m 70). Now I’ll def. have to smell Valentino V.
Aww, I kinda like Burberry Brit! The one in the plaid bottle, yah?
Dao says
yup, that one. For Brit, you need to use sparingly.
Karen says
This is true. On me I don’t get so much spice with that perfume though. I get tons of vanilla! Whenever I spray it on (I don’t have a bottle, but visit it at sephora sometimes during the winter months) I always want to gnaw my arm off because the vanilla notes smell like good baking to me. Okay, maybe I’m just nuts (or hungry!).

Hi Karen, thanks for telling me all this. No wonder ur blog looks so bright and happy, ready to lift anybody’s spirits 🙂 🙂
My favorite perfume of all time… “Romance” from a local Indian manufacturer, costs about 200 bucks for 100ml, thats like 4 dollars. I also have El Arden’s “Mediterranean” but I always end up using the first… why? Hubby loves it!! 😀 😀
amita’s last blog post..no go’s at work

You’re welcome, Amita! Glad to help 🙂
Mediterranean is a beautiful scent! Your husband has great taste (plus he was smart enough to marry you!).

Hmmm I think I smelled the one of the magazine samples of this too and didn’t like it. I’ll have to give the real thing a sniff. I’ve been rockin bronze goddess some lately because it’s putting me in a springy mood. I’m seriously still jonesing for the estee lauder private collection tuberose and gardenia though. I think I may have to go to bloomies for a visit.
Karen says
Hi Megan,
I really didn’t like it either when I first smelled it, but it really opened up once I got it on my skin.
We had been fragrance twins this week. I’ve been wearing the Bronze Goddess 24/7 too. 🙂
I think you should “visit” a few more times before taking the plunge. Hey, aren’t you makeup lockdown?!?!
