Um, did I really just spend 20 minutes dancing around my living room to Biggie’s Juicy?
Yes, I did (I suspect you aren’t surprised). 🙂
And why did I do it?
Givenchy! Candide Tangerine, their newest lipstick color, makes me REALLY wish I could rap. If I could, I’d spit a few bars about how downright juicy it is.
You know very well who you are…
Imagine pieces of peeled tangerine dipped in concentrated Hawaiian Punch. THAT’s how intensely pigmented Candide Tangerine is.
I’m wearing two layers for opaque coverage in these pics; a single layer produces more of a stained look.
Reddish orange Mad Men lips have been popping up like Technicolor prairie dogs lately, but for this Givenchy went a different route. Instead of making it an old-school matte a la MAC Neon Orange, which I’m wearing in these pics here (from the Stylishly Yours Collection), Givenchy gave it a glossy, shiny finish. I like it both ways, but I think the shine makes Candide Tangerine look a little more modern.
If you’re new to Givenchy’s Rouge Interdit Lipstick line, you’re in for a treat (albeit an expensive one…like truffles). These moisturizing lippies feel smooth and light on my lips and have a really nice glide to them. They’re unflavored, but they do have a light rosy scent that quickly fades. I think it’s pleasant.
Givenchy calls the Rouge Interdit lipsticks long-wearing, but I dunno… I get between 3-4 hours out of Candide Tangerine, which isn’t terribly good or bad. More like medium-wear, and I do touch-ups with it at least a few times throughout the day.
Candide Tangerine is rather expensive, but it’s also packed with pretty pigment. It’s wonderful texture and sleek, sophisticated packaging also make it feel worthy of the price — a fun, fresh take on one of spring’s trendiest colors.

A stellar day at Stellar Spa
Last weekend’s spa day with my high school buddies at Stellar Spa in Corte Madera (up in the North Bay Area) was a really nice treat. I’d driven by the spa many times (it’s close to the place I go to get my hair did) before, but I’d never walked in. It’s a super cute, homey little spot offering massages, facials and body treatments.
They have men’s and women’s lounges and a soothing co-ed “quiet area” with couches, magazines and snacks (dried fruit, nuts, water and tea), so you can unwind before and after your treatment. It’s not one of those spas with, like, the super fancy showers, or a sauna or pool, but it’s clean, classy and great if you just want to relax. I also thought the staff were really nice.
I had a deep tissue massage, and Tina, the very cool masseuse who worked on me, tenderized my upper back and shoulders as if they were pieces of meat, effectively chiseling out all of my tension (and I mean this in the best possible way). I left feeling like a new girl, mellow and happy.
If you’re ever in the area and looking for a place to unwind, Stellar Spa is just a hop, skip and a jump (about a 20-minute drive) from the Golden Gate bridge.
Have you ever been to a spa before? Tell me about it. What are some of your favorite treatments?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

That lip color is gorgeous!
I’ve never done the spa thing before but I might go to one this summer with a friend when her birthday rolls around. We’re thinking of going to one in Calistoga. We’ll see…
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
Whatever you do stay far, far away from Indian Springs! I went for my birthday in June and did not enjoy it at all. It was really impersonal and I felt like a piece of cattle… Completely NOT relaxing at all!
Heidi says
Ooh, I will keep that in mind!
So, I just got back from …. Vintage Oaks! I met up with a Marin friend for dinner at Chevy’s. Yes, of course he had them do the whole birthday sombrero, clapping, singing thing. Ugh…. well, at least I got a free sundae out of the embarrassment!
I was going to stop into Sephora beforehand, but I hit some nasty traffic heading south through Sonoma County so I didn’t end up having time. Oh well… my credit card thanks me!
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
Oh, how fun! I hope you had a very happy birthday! 🙂
How random… I was just at that Sephora yesterday afternoon.
Tiffany says
Orange looks great on you!
My only spa trip has been to bliss for waxings. Not that exciting. But I have a gift card to another spa I plan to use for a massage, maybe this summer. I can’t wait!
Karen says
Ooh, not exciting at all, but still good stuff! My friend had a pre-natal massage… she said it helped her back a lot.
Body treatments are nice too. I like the ones that let me totally veg out. 🙂
How was your Monday?
Tiffany says
When is your friend due? My Monday was pretty typical, just went to work. Bottle of contact solution opened in my tote bag and drenched all my stuff, so it was a rough morning. How was your day? Anything fun going on?
Karen says
September. She’s the first one out of my close group of friends to be with child, so you better believe that kid is gonna be SPOILED by the aunties! 😀
My Monday was just okay… I’ve been kind dragging all afternoon (the cloudy/rainy weather makes me feel blah) but otherwise it’s been fine. I just got back from a Sephora trip (needed a pick me up) so things are starting to look up!
That sucks about your contact solution. 🙁 Is all the important stuff okay (phone, makeup)?
Tonight I have absolutely nothing exciting planned except for going to bed early. I’m officialy old, LOL!
Tiffany says
SO exciting! And I can vouch for the fact that sept is a great month to be born.
I’m jealous of your sephora run! Did you grab anything other than your creaseless cream?
Luckily the important stuff is all fine! Just a granola bar casualty.
I am eating pop tarts and watching jersey shore, lol! Exciting night!
Karen says
Hee hee! Are you a Virgo or a Libra? I’m pretty excited… I’ve got grand plans to be the “cool aunt.” (Everyone needs one.)
So, MIRACULOUSLY I managed to make it out of there with just one thing. I was tempted by a tube of Pacifica French Lilac body butter but I think I need to finish at least one tube before picking up another scent.
You know strawberry Pop Tarts with icing are the jam, right? And what the heck is going on with Ronnie and Sammie. Seriously, just break up already.
Tiffany says
Virgo!!! I was born on the 12th. You will def be the cool aunt! So fun!
That’s my pop tart kind too! I have started buying them by the case on amazon (insert embarrassed emoticon here).
I know right? These two kill me. I feel like the whole show revolves around their drama.
Karen says
Are you much like your sign? I’m a gemini down to the T!
Those are the ONLY Pop Tarts I’ll eat, btw. And wow, I didn’t know you could buy them by the case. It’s the dawn of a new era…
No kidding re: the lame Sammie and Ronnie drama. Did you hear how they’re going to do a season in Italy? I miss the kinder, gentler days of the first season. Sigh!
Tiffany says
I think I have some of the traits. I’m definitely an organizer and a worrier. And logical.
Girl, check it out on amazon. It’s like $6.60 for a box of 36. Pretty awesome.
Yeah, these goobers in Italy should be interesting! I need to go back and watch season 1!
Karen says
Thank you!! El Hub always buys these so-called “healthy” Pop Tarts from Trader Joes, and while they’re probably better for me, there’s nothing like the real thing. I need to stock up.
I recently Tivo’d a few eps from the first season and they’re much less obnoxious than the recent ones. I have a feeling their 15 minutes will be up soon.
Liz! says
That lip color is so pretty!!!
The last time I went to a spa was the morning of my wedding (we eloped on the beach!), my mom and I got soothing facials, pedis and massages. So wonderful! I really want to go for a couple’s massage with the hubs soon.
Karen says
Oh, that sounds lovely! Where did you get married?
I’ve been wanting to try a couple’s massage too, but am kinda worried that it’ll be weird.
Jade says
That color is phenomenal!
I had a little rap sesh to many throwback songs, including Juicy, last Friday while celebrating my birthday! Great choice.
Karen says
NICE! I could listen to Juicy and Big Poppa on repeat, no joke!
Happy belated birthday, btw. How did you celebrate?
Cara Smith says
That lipcolor looks awesome on you, Karen! Listening to Juicy is the perfect accessory :).
My fave lippie right now is Revlon’s Really Red Matte lipcolor. It’s a bright, smooth color that reminds me of Candide Tangerine, and looks fab on most ladies! Have you heard of it or tried it?
Jade says
Thank you! I had a get together at my apartment with some close friends. A somewhat quiet but pleasant birthday!
Katie says
Orange lipstick can’t be pulled off by many, but it always looks so fabulous on you! I think it’s my favorite lip color on you, actually.
Karen says
Thanks, Katie. Do you like wearing orange lipstick too?
tzu says
I was debating between this lipstick and MAC’s Morange and I picked the Morange instead….now I think I want this as well!
I did purchase the lipgloss that goes with this lipstick, the gloss interdit in Succulent Orange which is a bit more red than the lipstick.
Karen says
Hi Tzu,
How are you liking Morange? I’m kind of on an orange kick and am thinking about picking it up. I need to swing by the counter anyway because I lost my Syrup lipstick, boo! 🙁
Tzu says
The Morange is really pretty. Compare to the givenchy I’d say it’s a teeny tiny more red. I do like it a lot but I’m thinking want a more yellowish orange! Any excuse to buy more makeup! LOL
Karen says
Okay, I’ll look it up when I hit up the counter this week. Both that and Lady Danger are on my list, WOO HOO!
Vijaya says
Rouge Interdit is my favorite formula. <3 I think I'm gonna have to get this color.
Karen says
It’s cool. How long do the lipsticks last on you?
Amy says
Hi Karen,
I really like the lipstick and I am LOVING your blouse!! Could you please tell us where you found it? Super cute stuff can be hard to find!
Thanks!!
Amy
Karen says
Hi Amy,
That’s a wrap dress I bought at Nordstrom last summer. I checked to see if it was still available online but unfortunately it’s gone. Do you still want the designer’s name?
Amy says
Hi Karen,
The designer’s name would be great – I’d love to check out what they have this year. Nordstrom is by far one of my favorite stores. I get lured in by the shoes and stay for everything else!
Thanks,
Amy
Amber says
I was going to ask the same question! Forget the lipstick, that print is gorgeous!!
Karen says
Hey gals,
The name of the designer is Maggy London. Here’s a link to the website:
http://www.maggylondon.com/
This dress doesn’t have the same print, but the design is essentially the same as mine:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/maggy-london-print-wrap-dress/3042276
Amber says
Thanks for the info! I have a couple Suzi Chin for Maggy Boutique dresses that I love.
Karen says
You’re welcome!
That designer is new to me so I had to look it up. The dresses are REALLY cute! I’m in love with the Lace Shift Dress and the Ruched Stretch Satin Dress.
Phyrra says
That’s a gorgeous lip color. I like oranges.
Karen says
Me too! Do you have a favorite orange lippie?
Nina says
the lipstick looks great on you! 🙂
Karen says
Thanks, Nina! 🙂 How goes it? Are things good on your end?
Nina says
i kinda had to work late, which sucked. :/
i just got home, cooked turkey stir fry and watched house (which was sad… ) …
how are you doin? 🙂
Karen says
Yeah, working late is not on my fun list, either! So with you on that one.
I’m doing good! I’ve been sleeping like a normal person lately and that makes everything 10X better. 🙂
Nina says
sleeping is awesome and is a very underrated thing! 🙂
i hope to get home at a decent time today! 😉
Karen says
Yes it is. I’ve been getting in eight hours for the last couple of nights and it’s been GLORIOUS!!!
I hope you get home at a decent time too. 🙂
Sherry says
Ooo this looks gorgeous! What eyeshadow/liner are you wearing on your eyes? I’m glad you showed us what to do with eyes when wearing a bold lip color like this. Just bought Revlon Colorburst in Fuschia and I’ve been wondering how to do makeup for my eyes with that particular color. I might have to try going for orange lipstick too. Very flattering on your skin! I’m about two shades lighter than you (I have yellow-toned skin..I think I’m an NC 30).
And yes, that wrap dress pritn is ridiculously cute. Do tell the designer!
Karen says
Hi Sherry,
Oh, the eyes here are super easy! 🙂 I applied Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in RSVP on the lids and then LORAC Front of the Line Pro liner in black along the lash line. A quick lash curl and two coats of mascara and then I’m done.
As for the dress, the designer is Maggy London. I bought it from Nordstrom last summer!
Melody says
I’m kind of going back and forth about buying this lippie. I’ve been really in to corals lately and this would be in the same color family but sill let me change things up. I don’t know if I can pull it off, though!
Karen says
Hi Melody,
Speaking of corals, have you tried MAC’s Viva Glam Cyndi Lipglass or Lipstick? It’s a beautiful reddish coral.
Melody says
Yeah! I just got it a couple of weeks ago and after the first time I put it on, I was wondering what took me so long.
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
It looks GORGEOUS on you! I wish I could rock a straight up orange lip, but I don’t think I can. I’ll stick with my orange-reds 😀
Karen says
Girl, you can DO IT! 🙂
Trisha says
Oh my gosh, that color looks so good on you. Orange! It suits your skin perfectly. Now I want to try it.
Karen says
I hope you give it a go, Trisha!
Stephanie says
The color of the lipstick is just made for you, you look incredible with it !
Marian says
That lipstick sure is pretty on you! I’ve never been to a spa. Never had a massage or pedicure. I had one manicure in my lifetime because my daughter wanted one so I took her.
Karen says
Thanks, Marian.
Spas are fun… they’re really nice if you just need a day to relax and veg.
How did you like the manicure you had with your daughter? I enjoy getting my nails done, but I prefer to do them at home (I’m super picky about how I like mine painted).
Jen says
🙂 I love reading your posts!! This tangerine lipstick is so gorgeous!!! Orangey tones usually call to me (not sure why) and this color is so pretty!! 🙂
Karen says
They call to me too. There’s just something so summery about them, you know?
House Of Photo Props says
Oh,I’m loving that lippie on you.Sephora here I come!!
Karen says
Yay! They also have a matching gloss, in case you’re interested. 🙂
Stephanie says
I wish I could pull off an orange color like you!..
Karen says
Hi Stephanie,
Orange is fun! Have you tried wearing it lately? This spring’s versions of it seem very wearable.
Marina says
This lipstick looks fab on you!!!
Karen says
Thanks, Marina. 🙂
Cassie says
I love the orange lipstick – it really suits you and is such a pretty colour! Went ahead and bought two different ones recently, so can’t wait to rock them when summer comes.
The spa looks gorgeous from the outside – I’m so not used to how American has all these open space, whereas here, unless you’re far out in the country, everything’s so compact and tiny.
A massage sounds heaven to me right now!
Karen says
Which lipsticks did you get, Cassie?
courtney says
i love this! i want it
Karen says
I hope you give it a try, Courtney. 🙂
Laurina says
That color looks stunning on you! Wish I could pull off orange 🙂
Karen says
Aw, I bet you could do it. Maybe with a sheer orange gloss?
DalaLuz says
The tangerine lippy is delish, I like 🙂
I just went to a foot and hand spa with a friend, we’d won coupons for a dr Fish treatment. Loads of fishies nibbling at my toes, and it ended with a nice scrub and a (very minimal) mani/pedi. Tres nice!
Jen in VA says
Why so Fresh and So Clean……jk, you can sure pull of that orange, gorgous!!!
Heidi N. says
thats a bright lippy, but you make it look good : )
Amee says
orange lippie!!!! OMG!!! NO NO!!
but it looks good on you 🙂
i have never been to spa..
