Unclear: It’s unclear whether I’m more emotionally invested in Jersey Shore than any somewhat normal, sane person should be. When Vinny got his spray tan in last night’s episode I felt betrayed; the GTL gods had finally succeeded in luring a once semi-decent young man to the Dark Side.
Clear: It’s clear that one needn’t resort to Jersey Shore-caliber extremes to get a gorgeous glow. Just reach for the Bare Escentuals BareMinerals Faux & Foxy Kit ($34) instead.
The small three-piece release just launched for spring with everything it takes to fake the appearance of a sunless tan, and it even protects against the real sun with added SPF 15.
I’m still new to the Bare Escentuals makeup line, and I was hoping for a great experience with this kit. It comes with…
- Faux Tan SPF 15 — This loose powder bronzer is a warm orangey brown matte with a hint of shimmer. It’s dark (even for my tanned skin), and I suggest using a light touch when it’s applied. I think it does look warm when worn and gives skin a pretty bronzy look I like.
The packaging is quite interesting as well. Instead of a traditional sifter, the pan comes in jar that has something like a trap door in it. When the lid is closed, a piece of metal attached to it presses down into the trap door. When you open lid again, the piece of metal releases from the door along with a set amount of powder. I’ve never seen anything quite like it before… Kinda cool. - 100% Natural SPF 15 Lipgloss in French Toast — A shimmery peachy bronze gloss with a brush applicator. It feels thick and sticky, and reminds me of MAC Lipglass. I love the rich pigment and long three-hour wear time, but I’m not crazy about the plastic-y flavor and scent.
- Buff & Go Brush — This medium-size travel kabuki brush has soft bristles and a dense, compact brush head. I like it for contouring the curve below the apples of my cheeks.

Swatches of Faux Tan SPF 15 (right) and 100% Natural SPF 15 Lipgloss in French Toast (left)

The products break down to about $11 each, which in my opinion makes the kit a pretty good deal, and it might be a particularly good fit for hard-core bronzing enthusiasts and Bare Escentuals fans (faux reals)!
PRICE: $34
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Sephora, Ulta and also online

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Interesting packaging! I’m always curious about things like that, even though I hardly ever wear bronzer.

It’s a little different, but kinda neat! If you need a massive amount of powder it would probably take forever and a day to get it out of that little trap door though, LOL!
Oooo that lipgloss is lovely!! Btw you look awesome in orange!

Aww, thanks! Sometimes when I wear the color I feel like I’m wearing an emergency vest or about to do work on the side of the highway, haha.
The French Toast lipgloss looks great!

Do you think you might pick this up, Vonnie?
I’m not a big fan of BE makeup because it’s super messy! The quality seems to be really good though…I guess I just prefer my powders to be pressed & not loose. How ironic that their “100% Natural” lipgloss has a fake smell & taste.
Haha, I know, right? It’s feels and looks great… but smells kinda funky in general.
I’m with you on loving pressed products. They’re just that much more convenient, you know?
another cute set! but I already have the faux tan (in the older packaging). I have a different BE powder also with this new packaging and I think it’s pretty awesome!
At first when I opened it up I was kinda confused. I like it too, but wonder what one would do if they ever needed an obnoxious amount of powder. I guess you’d just have to open and close the top 20 or so times in a row, LOL!
I just got my new Ulta catalog in the mail & since they are having their 21 days of beauty this is one item I WILL be picking up. I love all things bronzy!
Oh & I want their golden & gorgeous kit too!
Your skin looks fabulous! Can you tell us what foundation or whatever face makeup you’re using? :]
Hi Monica,
I have the products listed in this post here under “Face Makeup Products”: What’s Your Skin Care Routine? Here’s What I’m Doing Now.
Love that gloss but they can keep the bronzer!

not too sure about the bronzer. but the gloss is stunning!
I think the gloss is awesome, too. Super pretty! I feel like this company is constantly trying to improve the dispensers for their loose powders. I don’t use any of their eyeshadows, but I’m totally a fan of the foundation and some of their brushes.
This looks super great on you Karen! I’m just worried that since I’m practically albino if i could pull it off.
me too! that gloss looks amazing but i’m afraid it might be too dark for my light skin.
