This week your girl tested (aka played with) three of the products from Dove’s new Go Fresh line. You may have heard about Go Fresh while watching The Hills. In one of last night’s episode’s, Alicia Keys co-stars with two other women in an extended-length commercial — what Dove calls a micro-series.
The Three Go Fresh Fragrances
- Refresh: water lily and fresh mint
- Cool Moisture: cucumber and green tea
- Energize: grapefruit and lemongrass
Far and away, Energize took the cake as my favorite of the Go Fresh fragrances. Dove describes it as “grapefruit and lemongrass.” I could have sworn I picked up more orange, lemon, baby powder and soap, but still — it’s a wonderful scent.
In the interest of beauty science, I road tested three of the Go Fresh family products in the Energize scent last night before and after dance class — Ultimate Clear Invisible Solid deodorant, Beauty Body Wash and the Body Mist. In hindsight, it may not have been a great idea to nighttime test a so-called energizing product, but I expected to be up late anyway (TV time).
Was your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, in fact, energized by Energize?
Ultimate Clear Invisible Solid: I swiped a layer under my arms right before heading to hip hop class last night. Forty-five minutes into the class, after buckets of sweat, I gave my armpits a good whiff (on the D.L., hello!), and I still smelled fresh. All throughout class and on the drive home, Ultimate Clear was going strong. I burst through the door and gave El Hub a big, sweaty hug. His response: “You smell nice.” Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A-
Beauty Body Wash: Later last night, knowing I still had to watch two episodes of The Hills before bed, I hit the shower with my bottle of Beauty Body Wash in Energize, the same nice, citrusy fragrance as the deodorant. I went to town workin’ its lil’ exfoliating beads. Harsh exfoliating scrubs tear my skin up, but Beauty Body Wash felt gentle and non-abrasive. Get this: the formula contains a touch of menthol (just a touch), which gives it a little kick. Smartly, Dove skipped the menthol in the deodorant. Thank ye gods! Beauty Body Wash isn’t quite as moisturizing as Dove’s Ultra Rich Cream Oil Body Wash, but it should get the job done through spring and summer. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+
Body Mist: I toweled off and spritzed on a little of the Body Mist. Same energizing scent as the deodorant and body wash, so I should have been sufficiently energized for hours of reality TV watching, and I was.
In the future, I’ll use the body mist sparingly because despite the bottle claiming it contains a hint of moisturizer, the first listed ingredient is alcohol. Um, not the best moisturizer. Tis’ still a fun, light scent, though, and I’ll keep it handy for days (or nights) when I need a boost. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B-

Work’s still crazy (hence the late post), but I had a fantastic Tuesday! The neighbor’s tabby stopped by and kicked it old school with me this morning. He even sat on my lap while I wrote (how precious!). In the afternoon, I got a nice e-mail from my good friend, J-Money, who’s getting married later this year. I’m gonna be the matron of honor. I’m stoked about it, but the word “matron” makes me feel, well, matronly. I love weddings, though, and I’ve known J-Money since childhood, so I can’t wait! Plus, it’s in Florida, which gives me a good excuse to go surfing when I’m not performing my matronly duties. 🙂
How has your day been? I hope it went well.

Karen

I’m definitely curious about the Ultimate Clear deodorant — does it come off on clothes?? I’ve been using Dove for years, but what I’m using (Ultimate Clear Radiant Silk) does come off, and always when I’m in a dressing room (d’oh!)! I do love lemongrass and citrus scents; I may have to give this a try, but I will be so sad if it’s streaky!

I saw these at CVS yesterday, wanted to give em a try, but I just opened a new bottle of Bath and Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom Body Wash. I shall try this once I’m done with this bottle.:)

Hi Jeanne,
I like Dove deodorants because they usually don’t get on my clothes. I wore a loose, light colored top the other night so I couldn’t really tell with this one. Maybe I’ll wear a black top to my next dance class on Weds to see if it does (now I’m curious). You should give it a go… it smells great!

Hi Iheartmakeup,
I love that Japanese Cherry Blossom. I used it last year off and on during the spring. Anyway, this might be good to have around just as a gentle exfoliator. For the price ya can’t beat it. Hope you’re having a good week so far! 🙂

I hope we get them here in Germany as well. I really like Dove skin products.

Ooh I’ve been wanting to try this out. I have to admit I’m kinda afraid to though. I have never used one of any particular product and stuck to it but girl, when Dove cool moisture came out– holy hell I became ridiculously addicted. It smells so fresh and uplifting. It’s the only body wash/lotion that I’ll use, and I hear that the rest of the skin cleansing line is really well formulated. I’m telling you if they made toothpaste I’d be on it. AND I’m beyond pissed that Target stopped carrying that particular Dove line argh! So yes that’s on my list now, it sounds yummy.

My mum has the shampoo of that range. She loves it and it does smell nice 🙂

oooh! What part of Florida are you going? North, Central, or South Florida?

K – I already peeped this out on my last trip to CVS, and I’m with you that energize is my favorite – although I like cool moisture, but it’s been around for a minute. ANYWAY I plan on buying a couple bars of the soap…Yeah I rock out with old school Dove Bars. I just like them better than bodywashes. I may have to pick up the deodorant too though. Oh and btw I’ll be heading downtown for the cherry blossom festival in dc this weekend…and I’m currently using the B&BW cherry blossom antibacterial hand soap…which is about all I can handle with them…

I always take my showers right before bed (to get all toasty and relaxed) so I’m not sure going for “energizing” is the best idea for me! 🙂 Sounds like it smells nice, though, the body mist could be a nice mid-afternoon pick-me-up come summertime!
Karen says
Hi Susanne,
Me too! What are your faves?
Karen says
Hi Breezy,
Oh no, don’t you hate when your favorite products aren’t carried in nearby stores! That’s so annoying. Well, I suppose you can always get it online and stock up if you get desperate. 🙂
If you’re a Dove fan then I think you’ll like these too. I am wearing the body mist right now… I had a hard time waking up this morning nad needed some help getting energized, and it helped!
Karen says
Hi Karen B.,
Yah, I agree. The Dove hair scents linger in my hair when I use the conditioners, especially!

Hi Dao,
The wedding is gonna be in the Miami area! Is that where you’re from? Cause if so you’ll have to gimme the good shopping spots, wheeee!
Karen says
Hi Megan,
Girl, those bars are actually pretty rad, yah? They’re incredibly moisturizing for soap, and I love how they are curved so that the bar rests easily on your skin!
Have fun at the Cherry Blossom festival. All of the cherry blossom trees on our street last month, and I miss them!

Hi Glosslizard,
True, true. But when you gotta stay awake for reality TV and midnight visits from the neighbors cat it can’t be beat!
Energizing would also be good post afternoon/morning workout, too, methinks.

Hi Karen,
Yay, I’ll have to give the Energize line a try! I’ve been bummed because I can no longer find Neutrogena Rainbath shower gel in Awake (I think it’s called Awake, it’s the pink one). It had the best citrus smell, which I love because it smells so clean and fresh, and it lifts my spirits in the morning when I have to get up at an unholy hour. Thanks for all of your hard research. 🙂

Hi Karen,
Unfortunately I live in North Florida, which is about 8 hrs drive to Miami. Enjoy your time there, Miami has a lot of hot spots and their nighttime activities are unbeatable. The farthest I’ve ever been in FL is the Central area (Orlando, St. Pete, etc) so I don’t really know a lot about Miami. Only watch it in CSI: Miami though 😀
Karen B says
It does linger. My mum loves dove shampoo and body wash as she’s pretty much allergic to all skincare. Dove and Garnier are the only brands that doesn’t give her a rash. It’s weird as certain “hypoallergenic” brands give her rash too…

Hi Karen B.,
Garnier makes some amazing body care stuff. I’m so sad I can’t get it here in the US though, BOO HOO! I love the Body Cocoon lotion!
