Fusion Beauty LipFusion Lip Conditioning Sticks Make $22 Almost Seem Like a Bargain

Ya know, it’s true what they say — there’s nothing like two Eggo waffles, a cup of coffee and a heaping scoop of Amplifat to start your day.

Yes, boo, Amplifat.

It might sound like something muffin tops contract (blast you, Nutella!), but it’s actually the star plumping ingredient in Fusion Beauty’s new LipFusion Conditioning SPF 15 sticks ($22).

I’ve tried three of the five little tubes of plumping pigment — Buff, Butterscotch and Bitten — and each one feels like moisturizing heaven on my lips, gliding on with a creamy, non-sticky texture that reminds me of oiled fingers on Alcide’s obviously waxed werewolf chest…

Wait — what was I talking about?

Seriously, a werewolf with a hairless chest?

Fusion Beauty gave them a light minty flavor and scent to go with their subtle (read: barely noticeable) plumping action. Speaking of that, they just barely tingle, unlike other plumping lip products that hurt like bee stings!

I also dig how relatively pigmented they are for conditioning lip balms, which isn’t to say they’re bright as heck, but the colors do — GASP! — actually show up on my lips.

As for wear time, they seem to last a good long while. Yesterday I wore Buff to my photography class, and after one stick of Orbit gum, a bottle of water and a protein bar (a total of about two hours of), it had just barely begun to fade.

Oh, but here’s the kicker: Fusion Beauty charges Chanel-esque prices for their products. Just like the other bits and bobs we’ve looked at from the line, these cost a bundle.

Of course, if you’re a fiend for luxurious conditioning lip balms with SPF, you need look no further than these. Available at Sephora stores and online at sephora.com. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

  1. I am sorry – was there makeup in this post? All I see is naked chest. Nice-looking naked chest. Alcide’s naked chest makes me blush in a non-cougar type way (unlike Jacob’s naked chest). Yummm. Going back to check out the lippies now!

Mmm, Alcide. Okay, so I wish you were Eric, but still — we’ll take what we can get!

(Oh, and those lip balms? Yah, those look lovely too. Actually, they look *quite* lovely… I just need a few moments to get over my True-Blood-and-Nutella distractions!)

I think there’s no point in giving that much money for a lip balm. For an eyeliner, I’d give it without thinking twice, sure, but for a lip balm? No. There’s nothing my beloved Nivea or Burt’s Bees can’t do :)

  4. meghan says:

I’m very fond of Alcide from the books, and while I think the actor nailed the character he is too sleek and pretty to be Alcide.

I would really, really love Sookie and Alcide to get together. That would make me beyond happy!

      • Summer ♥♥ says:

AGREED! I really love Alcides personality. He’s rough on the edges, but inside he’s sensitive and mushy (mostly because of Debby) I’m still waiting although for the Sookie-Eric hookup to happen!!! Whenever they dream about eachother I just hope it’s real one day :) I love Eric!

        • Karen says:

EVERYONE loves Vampire Eric! I didn’t quite get it until they chopped off his hair and put him in that tank top last season. Then all of the sudden I saw the light!

  5. ahh, so i wasn’t the ONLY one distracted by naked-werewolf/man-chest. i don’t feel bad now.

    *looks back at post*

ahh, yes, those ARE lovely! i’ve been using the mac tinted lip conditioner and am always on the lookout for another brand to try.

ok, but seriously, naked-werewolf/man-chest… maybe his hair follicles retract like wolverine’s claws? just sayin :p

  6. Anna says:

The tube looks like an imitation of the Fresh lip balms. $22 for lip balm though?! Yikes.

    • Karen says:

They’re both about the same price… Fresh is just slightly more expensive at $22.50. But yeah, both charge high-end prices for their stuff.

  7. TJ says:

Nice chest, but smooth werewolves are a bit creepy. LOL. Won’t even go into how those twilight folk look like children to me. LOLOL.

  8. Ana says:

Eh, call me crazy, but I expect a plumping product to have impressive plumping ability. My HG tinted balm is by Palladio… you MUST try it if you haven’t. Only $4 and it’s divine.

Haha love the Alcide reference! I watch One Tree Hill as well and I keep remembering his short-lived role on that show as a bartender/love-interest for Brooke. Who knew he could actually act?

    • Karen says:

I like the sound of $4. Does it sting?

      • Ana says:

Oh, it’s not plumping. It’s just the PERFECT tinted lip balm! it is sooo rich and pigmented and smooth! I have it in Rosey which I hear is the most pigmented. It’s pretty long lasting too!

You can get it at Ulta or Sally…. I think those are the major stores that carry Palladio. I have no doubt you will love them! :)

  9. Steph B says:

What is the sunscreen ingredient? All the Sephora site says under ingredients is that it has broad spectrum coverage. Arrrrgh. Not helpful. The product isn’t on the manufacturer’s website.

  10. Nathania says:

I’m seeing two things that I love in this entry… True Blood and nutella! I went to Pinkberry today and they had this Nutella flavored topping. It was AMAZING! I really need one of these conditioning sticks.

  11. aaah, Nutella. I think I’m more fixated on that picture than the one of the shirtless werewolf. Anyways…er, these sound a bit like my Revlon tinted lipbalms (only those are actually much more pigmented which is why I love them). I’m liking Butterscotch, will have to go check that out. I’m flying off to Taiwan tonight on the red-eye, very tempted to stuff myself full of Nutella before I leave.

  13. how come I didn’t get emailed about this post from my subscription. I’m loving Buff. It would look amazing on me! must get.

  14. Lexi says:

    TEAM ALCIDE!

  15. Kiana says:

Droolll….Umm I’m sorry were we talking about lipbalm? All I can see is Joe Manganiello bod. That dude is gorg of course he is no Alexander Skarsgard but if I cant have Eric I will surely take Alcide. Lol. Must. Focus!

I havent tried these lip balms yet but since the Makeup Queen ( yes karen thats what I’m calling you now lol) likes them I’m considering blowing some cash.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Kiana,

If you like lip stuff that plumps it might be a nice splurge. Maybe take it for a test drive next time you’re at Sephora just to see if you like the texture. :)

You are not alone in your lust for Vampire Eric, btw!

  16. Trisha says:

Okay, I want it. Plus: Mmmmm, Nutella. I love that stuff. Too bad it’s so bad for you.

  17. Kate & Zena says:

Uh, what, wait, this post was about lip balm? *distracted by Nutella* Ironically, I’ve been on a Nutella LOW the past few years. I think I inhaled too much of it when I was 18. It’s weird when you see it at your neighborhood grocery store when you know it used to only be available in higher end grocery stores (Sunset Foods) and the Commissary. I was about 8 months old when I tried Nutella (of course, it’s the food of Europe. I was living in West Germany then). Been hooked ever since,

My favorite lip balm is Nivea A Kiss of Moisture. The stuff is godly. I’ve gone through at least 10 tubes in the past three years. You’ll have to pry it out of my dead cold fingers. I LOVE the stuff.

    • Karen says:

Nutella rocks! I have a fresh bottle in my cupboard waiting for my spoon, LOL!

      • Kate & Zena says:

It does. When I saw it in my neighborhood grocery store when I was 16, my mom and I sorta inhaled 20 jars I think in 2 years? I can’t bear looking at it right now because I just inhaled way too many. It used to be so expensive when I was little because it had to be imported from Europe!

      • Karen says:

I get that way with certain foods too. Circa 1998 I ate waaaay too many Eggo Frozen waffles, and then I couldn’t touch them for years.

Now I love ‘em again. I guess absence does make the heart grow fonder, especially when it comes to food, ha ha ha.

  18. Tiffany says:

    helloooooo, Alcide! :)

how do you think these compare to the Fresh lip conditioners? and do you think you get about the same amount of product in both?

    • Karen says:

I haven’t tried the Fresh ones yet! Although I am tempted sorely.

Can anybody else weigh in on this?

      • Summer ♥♥ says:

The fresh one are pretty much the same size. I am a pretty devoted fan to the Fresh Sugar Lip Balms. It’s an even bigger splurge (26 bucks!) But I think it’s worth it. There are 3 flavors now, and each one of them is so delicious and moistuirizing. (Sorry, i CANNOT spell that word!) They smell amazing, too. The packaging is about the same, but these Lip Fusions are a little sturdier.

  19. Nina says:

Alcide is hot … but Eric tops `em all in the hawtness category.

That Bitten lippy is nice … kinda steep tho. Is it similar to the MAC Tinted Lip Conditioners? I still have 2 of those I havent used.

    • Karen says:

Yes, these feel kinda similar, except they’re a bit more slick and they plump. If you have the MAC ones you probably don’t need these.

      • Nina says:

There has to be a way to remind my thick head to wear lipgloss/lipstick all the time. My lips get dry bec the a/c here at work is always cold (i think I have polar bears for co workers!) … but when I get busy, I forget to smear on SOMETHING on my lips.

I have that MAC thing in my purse. It hardly ever sees the light of day. Im so neglectful of my lips. :|

  20. Kim says:

I can’t like anything with the ingredient Amplifat, just on principle! :) The Alcide picture was a nice surprise! I’m Eric all the way, but it’s nice that the show is sprinkling in some more hotness, and that these boys are not young enough to be our sons!

    • Karen says:

Did you watch last Sunday’s ep? What did you think?

      • Kim says:

I did! I think it’s just getting better and better (despite Sam’s nasty parents). I also love how Tara’s (FINALLY) working out how to get the upper hand with Franklin, instead of being tearful. I think we’ll all be cheering if she stakes him! Did you like it too?

      • Karen says:

        I thought it was great!

Something good needs to happen to Tara soon. Wasn’t it funny when the vamps tried to feed her day lilies? LOL…

Oh, and I really, really hope Lafayette’s crush, Jesus, is a good guy.

        • Kim says:

Yes, I totally agree about Tara! I just loved when she said “Franklin, I’m REALLY into you, but….”. I was like “Tara is back! Well played, clever girl!”. :)

I thought the same thing about Jesus. And it was funny to see the usually fierce Lafayette being so shy and awkward.

Lots of interesting story lines; it’s exhausting – and deadly – to live in Bon Temps. :)

          • Karen says:

OOh — another thing! Wasn’t that funny when Jason tried to pull over that girl while he was shirtless? LOLOL… I wonder what’s up with her?

            Also, I loved Lafayette’s gold eyeshadow. :)

          • Kim says:

OMG, yes and YES! That boy wears make-up a LOT better than I do! :)

And Jason was killing me with his paper clip shenanigans, and with pulling Crystal over shirtless (with CHiPs sunglasses on)! I know what she was like in the books but the show always changes things up, which is great.

PS If you haven’t read any of the books, they are very easy reads. Fast moving and no thought required – which is sometimes just what the doctor ordered! :)

  21. Jay says:

I got into True Blood the 2nd season, but lost interest after that. After watching last Sunday’s episode, I’ll have to start watching again. Love seeing Alcide shirtless. He’s HAWT!!!!!! For Alcide and Sam, I’ll start watching again :)

The tinted lip balm sounds good, but do you have a drugstore recommendation? I like that it’s tinted and has sunscreen.

  22. Black Engine says:

How’s the plumping action? Is there at least some?

I know this is a little late, but I just bought two of these on Amazon for $15 (including shipping from some other place. I love the colors and moisture!
