I got softer hair this week for $3.99. I think that’s quite an accomplishment. I’ve been conditioner washing with Freeman Papaya and Lime Overboard Shine Conditioner, and now my hair is so smooth and bouncy-looking that I feel like I belong in a hair commercial, running like a fool with my arms up through a field of flowers while dappled sunlight caresses my new $3.99 hair. Fo’ reals.
Conditioner washing involves showering with a conditioner in place of shampoo. In a nutshell, I skip the shampoo (en lieu of conditioner) a few days a week to extend the life of my hair color and to prevent my wavy hair from drying out. It’s one of my favorite hair beauty tips. I’ve conditioner washed with a number of drugstore conditioners before, but Overboard Shine outshines them all.
I find that I have to use a palm-full of Overboard Shine to clean my shoulder length hair, but in this case I don’t mind having to use a lot of product because it’s so darn cheap. After washing and thoroughly rinsing with Overboard Shine, my hair and scalp feel refreshed and clean without feeling stripped.
I’ve been using Overboard Shine for about a week now, but the difference is noticeable. Not only does my hair feel softer to the touch than it did last week, but it’s also shinier and has more body and bounce.
The smell of Papaya and Lime Overboard Shine reminds me of my favorite drink, the margarita (on the rocks, with salt, please!), and the beachy tropical scene on the bottle brings a smile to my face in the shower. Another plus: it wasn’t tested on animals.
I’m guessing each bottle should last about three-four weeks, but because it’s super cheap and works as well as it does, I don’t mind having to stockpile it in my bathroom. My dry locks are lovin’ on this bargain beauty find.

I purchased my bottle of Overboard Shine on impulse at Long’s Drugstore. I went in to get a litter box and some Fresh Step for the “neighbor’s” tabby; he’s taken up residence in my abode (that freeloader!).
You can find Overboard Shine at your favorite drugstore or at Freeman Beauty online.
OH, THANK YE GODS! It’s the weekend, at last! I don’t know about you, girlfriend, but I’ve had a jam packed week of work, and I am so ready to relax. I spent this afternoon hanging with Tabs and writing (and rocking out) to Hall & Oates. Dang, those boys knew how to work it back in the 80s, both in the hair and the music departments.
Tonight, it looks like I’m heading to the gym and then perhaps to dinner with El Hub. I hope you have a great evening.
Do you have any plans for the weekend?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hi karen!
Woah~~ this has been a horrible week! Really! HELL!!!(X_x)
I’m curious abot washing my hair with conditioner… I don’t have dry hair but my haircolor fades quite easily!! I may give it a try. Hopefully it won’t leave my hair like an oil slick.
Hugs! 😀

Hi Karen,
I, too, conditioner wash my hair a couple of times a week. It does make my color seem to last a bit longer (although the color depositing shampoo on other days probably helps too!) I use Aveda Shampure conditioner (which also works as a shaving lubricant in a pinch). To keep my copper locks, I use Aveda’s Madder Root shampoo.

So K…I’ve been working a modified no shampoo for a couple weeks. I need to switch the hair regimen up i think. I may have to check this one out.
This weekend is jam-packed for me. I’m at work. Yes…I had to be here at 8:30 am on a Saturday. Essentially we are undergoing a server upgrade and have to do a lot of testing before we go live. So that it doesn’t affect client services, we have to come in on Satudurday. Something has gone wrong however and we haven’t been able to test for the past 45 minutes…and we can’t log into our software, so there’s only so much work i can get done.
AND BTW I have to mention that i am slightly crazy. So last night I had to make a run to Ulta and Sephora to pick up a couple more things to include in my mother’s day gift. Girl… why did I buy 4 mascaras at Ulta? Well because they were on sale…buy one get one…and they were drugstore brands. Max Factor Lash Perfection Volume Couture (black), Max Factor Vivid Impact in Blushing Blue, the waterproof lash stylist in very black (per a recommendation), and the define-a-lash volume in the pink tube (brownish black).
Girl…I’m going to be trying them all out this week I guess. Okay well we’re up and running…so I’m getting back to work so I can get out of here.

Oh… the rest of my weekend – friend’s Birthday party tonight, then to the eastern shore with my mom – to my grandmother’s house tomorrow. Brunch with them and my uncle at the Hyatt resort in Cambridge, MD…busy busy busy.

That conditioner sounds really nice! I’d like to try it, but first I have to get through my current obsession with Oscar Blandi’s Jasmine line! It smells amazing and it feels as if it was made especially for me! I luuuuuuurve it! 🙂
Y’know, Johnny Oates had those cheekbones goin’ on! He might’ve been a real hottie if he’d just lost the ‘stache! 😉
Yay for the weekend! We’re all going out to visit my mom in Pacifica tomorrow! Hubby and my step-dad will take the boys bowling and mom and I will have some quality girl-time! I’m really looking forward to it!
Hope your weekend is both fabulous and relaxing!

Hi Karen B.,
Yup, it does. Some shampoos really strip my color, so conditioner washing has made a huge difference in keeping the highlights from looking brassy.
Karen says
Hi Eru,
GIRLFRIEND! It’s been rough for me, too! AGH! What’s going on with you? Finals?
One thing I’ve done in the past to avoid the oil slick is to just the roots with shampoo, and then conditioner wash everything else! That might help make your hair feel less greasy in the beginning.
Big hugs back! Miss ya!

Hi Karen,
I like Aveda hair products. I haven’t tried the Shampure but I have smelled it in the store and it’s smells so good!

Hi Carla,
That’s too bad about your camera. Hey, at least this way you can upgrade when it’s time to get a new one. 🙂

Sounds fab! I like Freeman products so I’ll definitely have to check this out. And anything that keeps my hair from becoming too dried out is great in my book!
Karen says
Hi Erin,
OMG! Yay! Bonbon is really pretty and I remember being quite entranced by it, too.
I will have to go back to the Chanel counter to pay it a “visit”!
Karen says
Hi KK,
I’ve never heard of that brand before, but I just looked it up online and it seems interesting. The leave-in looks like something I’d totally take to the beach with me. I’ll see if I can find it up here, so thanks for the recommendation!
Karen says
Hi Jamie,
Me too! There was awhile there when Freeman products were MIA, but I’m glad to see them back in the stores.
