Dude, if your lips flake at the mere mention of the word, “dry,” take a look at MAC’s new $19.50 Mineralize Tinted Lip Balms (available in five shades).
Granted, they’re $19.50 each…which is kind of expensive for a lip balm. True that. But Slightly Nude, the color I’ve been wearing lately, isn’t your average balm.
As a connoisseur of lip balms, and as someone who suffers from dry, flaky lips every winter, I almost always have at least a few balmy lippies around, like in my desk, my purse…
Heck, if I could, um, I’d put a little pack on Tabs and fill it with lip balms. 🙂
This one, Slightly Nude, lavishes my lips with moisture. The second I slick it on, I can almost hear my lips sigh, “ahhh…” And just like that, no more flakes, and my lips feel smoother and softer.
Plus, I think the color looks cute, too.
A nude coral with a hint of pink pearl (like a clear tint of peachy coral), Slightly Nude only pretends to be completely sheer. It actually has a noticeable amount of pigment and even a little shimmer, although the shimmer keeps a very low profile. I can’t really see it once it’s applied.
I love how natural Slightly Nude looks on my lips, and I think it’s a nice break from the heavier, full-coverage lipsticks I wore a lot over the holidays.
It reminds me of a MAC Cremesheen Lipglass…if the Cremesheens were thicker, longer-lasting and came in a squeeze tube. Same vanilla flavor and scent, same smooth, non-sticky texture, but a slightly thicker formula that lasts longer on my lips.
How long?
Well, Slightly Nude lasts about 3-4 hours for me, and it even holds up through a cup of Trader Joe’s Vanilla & Cinnamon Black Tea (ugh, so heartbroken that it’s a seasonal thing).
Now, if it and the other Mineralize Tinted Lip Balms also contained SPF, I’d be stockpiling tubes for summer. 🙂
PRICE: $19.50 for a 0.33-ounce tube
AVAILABILITY: Available now at MAC stores, counters and maccosmetics.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A (kinda pricey)

these sound awesome, but the price is deff out of my range. D:
do you have any other recomendations for like really great drugstore lip balms for lips that get super dry and flakey, and sometimes crack??

I have really dry lips and I love the Clarins Moisture Replenishing lip balm. It works very well, even underneath lipstick. I’ve learned over the years that I shouldn’t lick my lips. The less I lick them, the softer and less flaky they are.
@Karen: Slightly nude looks really good on you. I shall go check it out later if the store here has it in stock or not. *Fingers and toes crossed*

It’s not drugstore, but I love Jack Black lip balm – $7.50 a tube. You can find it at Sephora, Ulta, & online.

I’ve tried the Jack Black lip balms too. I gifted the Black Tea and Blackberry one to my sister this Christmas cause she liked the scent so much.
I don’t know if my lips are just super stubborn, but Jack Black doesn’t completely work for me. It’s good for a while, and then my lips start flaking more than it would without the lip balm. Why do lip balms always do that to me…

My 2 favorite lip balms (I have very dry lips) are La-Roche-Posay Ceralip, and L’Occitane pure shea butter little pot. They’re both pricier than your average chapstick, but they work!

I use Lypsyl lip balm. It’s the only thing that will work on my lips!

Very pretty!
Do you rub your lips together when you wear this lip gloss? I find that with thicker glosses, I can’t seem to leave it alone when it’s on my lips. Is this gloss noticeable when you’re wearing it? And if you do rub your lips together, does that mean it lasts for up to four hours even through that?
Thanks!
Keep up the great work! Love it!

This tea…it’s the best thing ever! I don’t have Trader Joe’s close to me but a few weeks ago me and hubby went on a small trip and there was a Trader Joe’s there and I bought this tea. Amazing! Too bad I drank it all already.

Your whole look is great, here! I’ve been hitting the lip balm like it’s my job lately, so this is a really timely rec. 🙂

Love this color! My lips get so dry in the winter, I’ve got lip balm stashed everywhere. Good to know this is nice and moisturizing.

This a product that I need in my purse, dresser, etc! My lips are always dry and some products just give me the shine but not the moisture my lips desperately need! The price is a bit steep though! Great review

I’ve been reading your blog for over a year, but never made a comment. After seeing your photo, I just HAD to write one and tell you that you look fabulous! This fresh-faced, natural look is my favorite one of yours. You’re glowing!
Also, just some reader feedback – I love the Monday polls and the mix of makeup and life on this blog. I feel like I’m reading an old friend’s blog. Have a good day.

Karen, would Tabs really wear a pack on his back?
We adopted a rescue cat two days ago and I really can’t imagine being able to put something on her back. My dream is to have her wear a harness so I could take her out for walks like you do with Tabs. Our little ninja is so curious and I think she’d love it. My sister put a little animal hoodie on our cat — that experiment lasted ~15 seconds, heh heh — and she immediately started walking like a slinky drunken kitty. Apparently this is what cats do when you put soemthing on them. Please teach me, Oh-Great-Cat-Lady!
