I was rifling around my makeup today and found a long lost friend, Rimmel London Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil in Jungle Green.
This beautiful emerald eyeliner is soft, glides easily, has all-day lasting power and gives a shimmery pop of color. And it’s only $2.99 at Walgreens, hello! If you’re feelin’ the itch to try a jewel-toned green liner this is the perfect way to test the waters without having to spend a lot of money.
In addition to Rimmel Jungle Green I used the following on the eye:
– MAC Groundwork Paintpot all over the lid
– MAC Soft Brown Matte Shadow in the crease and on bottom lashline
– LORAC Jade eyeshadow from lashline and just barely into the crease
– MAC Plushlash Mascara in Plushblack
On the cheeks:
– MAC Emote Blush
– MAC Pearl Sunshine Beauty Powder
On the lips:
– MAC Cremestick Liner in Beurre
– MAC Lipglass in Magestic
… HOLY FREAKING CRAP! Did you feel the earthquake?
I hope you are intact!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

You are so beautiful!
I bought once a silver rimmel eye pencil, and it sucked big time!
but I’m glad you are liking yours 🙂
Christine says
You look SUPER gorgeous, mama!! Really hot 😉
WOW WE FELT IT! We were only 5-10 miles from the fault line, I guess, from what I was hearing. Biggest quake I’ve been in – I wasn’t here for the ’89 one myself.
My boy and I took a few seconds to be like “HOLY CRAP!” before we ran to the doorway. Nothing went too awry for us – vodka bottle almost shook off the fridge (but we were standing there, so he pushed it further back). My parents had a few wine bottles break, and their dogs freaked out.
Karen says
Hi Hessah,
Too bad the silver one didn’t work for you. What didn’t you like about it? I’ve never tried silver liner before, can you recommend a good one?
Karen says
Thanks, girlfriend! So, I didn’t realize how close you guys were until I watched the news at 11. I’m glad nothing broke and that everything is okay. We were eating burritos in the living room and watching TV when it happened and when I got up to go to the doorway I actually brought my food with me, ha ha ha ha!
Vanessa says
I heard there was an earthquake and immediately thought of you! I am glad you’re ok…I am LOVING this look! You seriously look gorgeous! Green looks great on gals with brown eyes…
Karen says
Thanks Ms. Vanessa, that’s such a complement coming from you (you’re so great with color). I can’t wait to try more Rimmel pencils. So cheap, pretty, and easy to use.
Christine says
I actually told someone online, “brb earthquake.” They thought I was kidding!
Karen says
LOL…that’s something you would do! You’d nicely warn your chatting partner that you are currently experiencing a natural disaster! LOL!
Glosslizard says
That is such a fabulous green… and a fantastic picture of you! Thanks for the tip on the Rimmel, I’m always looking for greens and teals, and the price can’t be beat!
I was in my aikido dojo in Richmond when the quake hit. I couldn’t feel the floor move through all the mats, but the giant metal roll-up door (it’s in a warehouse space) and the roof started rattling like crazy!
Abi says
Hey Karen omg you look so pretty with green eye makeup!!! By the way I hope everyone affected by the earthquake is ok. Chao!
Lipglossme says
Karen you look mahvelous dahling! I love that green eyeliner.
I felt the earthquake last night too. I was watching some intellectually stimulating tv (Survivor – on demand) when it hit. My life flashed before me and didn’t know if I should grab some of my makeup before I ran to the nearest doorway or table (ya gots ta look good in these situations, no?) Kidding aside, it was pretty scary and turns out it was only a 5.6. I was actually in the ’89 earthquake so that really scared the crap out of me.
Glad to hear you’re okay.
Love your blog by the way!
kia says
glad you are okay thru the earthquake!
that color liner is gorgeous. great fotd! i had this bronze/gold-ish liner and mine sucked too! it didn’t lay color on like it should have… i have to really draw a hard line to see some color. that green is fab, like the green in mystery khol power pencil.
I♥M·A·C says
stunning, is there anything u cant rock? I lover Rimmel’s Soft Kohl Kajal Pencils, and have them in almost all colors, they’re so soft and come in lovely colors…and the best thing they’re dirt cheap
Karen says
Hey Glosslizard!
That’s so cool you do aikido…I want to do a martial art sometime in the future. (I took one class in June and apparently I have the bad dancer’s habit of pointing my toes, doh!). Would you recommend it for martial art newbies? How long have you been doing it for?
Karen says
Hi Abi! Thank you for your nice complement 🙂 Do you have a favorite green liner?
Seems like this quake wasn’t too bad. A little longer than the usual…I’m just glad nothing broke!
It also made me realize that I need to make an earthquake emergency plan for my makeup!
Karen says
Hi Lipglossme!
Do you remember where you were during the 89 quake? I was at home doing homework (I was a freshman in high school) and I remember all of the shelves shaking, and the fact that it went on and on and on and didn’t seem to stop!
LOL, I’ve actually NEVER SEEN one episode of Survivor. One of these days…
And thanks for visiting the blog 🙂 It’s always nice to see ya!
Karen says
Hi Kia!
It seems like the Rimmel pencils are a hit or miss. Seriously, try the green. It’s very soft and blendable.
I will now have to try that mystery kohl pencil! Yet another one to add to the list.
Karen says
Hi I Love MAC!
Which one do you think I should get next?!?!? I am going to Long’s tomorrow to look around and might pick up a pencil or two. BTW, which Prep & Prime did you end up getting?
Glosslizard says
I’ve been doing aikido for a year and a half now and I LOVE IT!!! I would absolutely recommend it for beginners, or for anyone at all! I’ve gotten into such good shape and I’ve actually lost 2-3 pants sizes since I started! Woo-hoo! If you don’t mind me giving a shout-out to my dojo, you can check out their site at aikidoofberkeley.com! I know there are some good dojos in SF too, and most offer a free class to try them out. The important thing is to find a dojo you like, and then the rest is cake!
Oh, and I pointed my toes too, don’t worry, it will pass! 🙂
Karen says
Ha ha ha, it was kind of funny because the teacher taught a few katas (?sp?) and she was really shocked because “I followed so well,” but then she figured out that I had danced eventually when she kept correcting my toes.
I really want to try martial arts but truth be told…I don’t like people getting up in my grill! I know that’s something I had to get over.
Girls that kick ass are soooo cool! I wanna be an ass kicker!
Hessah says
Hi Karen…
I didn’t like the liner cuz no matter what I did nothing whould show up in my eyes.. now I would only use e/s if I want to line my eyes..
All Lacquered Up says
Hey Karen! I have the Jungle Green eyeliner too and I love it. I haven’t worn it in a while though and you’ve inspired me to pull it back out. I’ve been in a makeup rut lately and need to start experimenting again.
Glosslizard says
Heh! If you prefer solo workouts, a lot of the people in my dojo love yoga. Also, if you choose a place with a weapons night (Yeah, look out! Girl with a sword!!) then you get a little more distance than with hand-to-hand.
I know you can be an ass kicker though, you’ve already got the ‘tude! 😉
Karen says
Hi Hessah,
Yeah, I’m a big fan of the eyeshadow as liner trick! Oh! Here’s my new favorite thing to do with shadow on the lash line: use a creamy liner (like Technakohl) and then layer shadow on top of it. You can get some very pretty effects! I like Technakohl in Graphblack layered with MAC Woodwinked shadow.
Karen says
Hey Michelle!
It was nice to finally hear your voice on the conference call last night. 🙂 I am glad you busted out with the Jungle Green. It was one of the best recommendations I ever got off of makeupalley!
I often get stuck in makeup ruts too…as in, wearing NO makeup whatsoever, HA! I’m trying to not be as lazy but it’s hard when there’s work to be done and blogging to do.
Karen says
Aww, thanks Glosslizard! 🙂
Funny you should mention weaponry (ha!), because at my gym somebody used to teach a “Sword Conditioning Class”, and I got very excited about the thought of handling deadly, sharp, shiny sword. My husband, who did martial arts for many years, was like, “Ummm, they are so not gonna give beginners anything sharp. Hello!” I was heart broken.
Do you use all those cool weapons and stuff? SO AWESOME!
Glosslizard says
Yeah, we use wooden practice swords (bokken) and short staff (jo). I think they get tired of patching holes in the mat, so no pointy things!
Weapons are my favorite part of aikido! I’m sure I look fairly silly in white pajamas with a wooden sword, but in my mind’s eye I’m totally Red Sonja (the warrior babe who hung out with Conan)! Yow! Incidentally though, they will condition you! Especially your arms!
Karen says
That’s so frickinig COOL! Do you feel like it’s a practical martial art to learn? Are you confident that you could defend yourself should sh*t hit the fan? I want to learn something that will really help me in a real-life situation.
I totally do the same thing in hip hop class, ha! I know I look completely ridiculous but I just pretend I’m one of J.Lo’s backup dancers…
Glosslizard says
I don’t think it’s a go-Jackie-Chan-on-a-group-of-bad-guys kind of thing, but I have gotten some practical stuff out of it. For example, in practice, I now find myself routinely blocking potential strikes toward the face, even though we don’t do full-contact strikes. Also, I feel more in command of myself on a day-to-day basis, and feel like I wouldn’t freeze up in an emergency. Finally, when I walk down the street, I can feel a confidence in my walk which IMHO would lead most troublemakers to seek an easier target.
Any martial (I wrote “marital”, ha!) art would provide these skills, I think, but since I love aikido, I stick with it, and that’s the real key!
Karen says
Tis true. I am not feeling as inspired by hip hop dance as I used to. Plus, I dunno how useful it is in an emergency, unless it’s emergency breakdancing!
I know your in the east bay (“beast” in pig latin), but would you know of any good studios out here in marin county? If not then no worries, I’ll do some Nancy Drew investigation this weekend!
Glosslizard says
I’ll ask Sensei to see if she has any recommendations and let you know! I’m stoked that you’re interested! I love sharing this with people! 😀
LOL! East-bay! Unny-fay!
Karen says
Yay! Thanks Glosslizard! I think this will help get me in better shape AND help me get over people getting up in my grill. Maybe one day I will even be able to defeat my husband when he gets all tricky with his fancy kicks and what not.
HA HA HA, don’t you love “Beast”?! I grew up in the East Bay!

thank you! thank you! I had bought this eyeliner, you know those impulse purchases! 😉 but had no idea how it would look. I’m creative when it comes to buying makeup, but I’m a chicken when it’s time to wear it! I’m a similar coloring as you, and it looks amazing on you! I’m so gonna try it now!
Thanks again.
