Allow me to direct your attention to the picture above. See, that is why you don’t let your husband futz with a fresh tube of lipstick.
I sure do love that man, but sometimes he’s all elbows and thumbs. Seriously, watching him try to open something delicate is like watching a bear touch type (i.e., it’s not pretty).
The moral of this story? — if you’re super-stoked about a new lippie, especially one as smooth and moisturizing as this new one from Jouer, keep it safely tucked away in your purse.
That poor thing up there is Dusty ($22), one of six new Jouer products for fall (coming to counters and online this September). The focus is firmly on lips and eyes in this release, and Dusty, a full-coverage nude lippie, joins three Liquid Shimmer Eyeliners ($22 each; available in Fox, Sable and Mink), a Travel Eyelash Curler ($14), and two Everyday Classic Wear Mascaras ($20 each; available in Noir and Brun).
Over the past year I’ve gotten to like Jouer, a small, high-end indie brand sold at Henri Bendel stores and online, both in terms of the overall performance of their products and how the brand handles color. I like to call it upscale accessible and runway chic, like a city girl’s version of Becca.
After getting to know the new Dusty lipstick, the Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner in Mink and the Everyday Classic Wear Mascara in Noir, here are some impressions they made…
Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner in Mink ($22) — Jouer describes this shimmery liquid liner as a rich taupe, but on me I think it looks more like a golden bronze. One swipe of this water-based, paraben-free wonder along my lash line with its skinny brush applicator yields oodles of lush pigment and shimmer. It’s fairly long-wearing, too, but isn’t waterproof, so I’m easily able to remove it with my regular face cleanser. Kinda pricey, but I like how it lights up my eyes. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A-
Everyday Classic Wear Mascara in Noir ($20) — I prefer my lashes with a double shot of drag queen that Noir doesn’t quite deliver. Still, it’s a moderately volumizing mascara that might be ideal for gals who want a natural lash look. It adds noticeable definition and seems to hold a curl better than most. Plus, it’s smudge-proof and refuses to flake. Of course, then there’s the price…which in Noir’s case seems a bit high to me for what you get. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B-
Hydrating Lipstick in Dusty ($22) — Jouer baked Brazilian cupuacu butter, a highly moisturizing extract from Brazilian cupuacu trees, into this hydrating lippie. Dusty is a true nude lipstick that provides medium coverage, and it feels creamy and smooth on my lips. In terms of wear time, it lasts for about four hours on me. If you’ve been looking for a nude lipstick that isn’t too pink or pale, you might want to give Dusty a closer look. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+

So what do ya think? Do you see anything you like? I’m thinking Jouer has a knack for the no-makeup look.
Mystery Melon: The Big Reveal!
Thanks to the eagle-eyed fruit detectives among us, I think I now know the identity of the mysterious melon I freed from the farmers’ market last week.
Are you ready?
It’s a Korean melon!
I think. Sometimes it’s referred to as a chamoe melon. I had it last night for dessert, and it wasn’t half bad — kinda like a crisper, less sweet cantaloupe.
I chilled it in the fridge for a few hours to get it nice and cold, and then sliced it open and removed the seeds with a spoon.
I can’t really see it replacing watermelon as one of my summertime faves, but I’d grab one again if it crossed my path.
How adventurous are you when it comes to food? Do you like to try new things, or do you tend to stick to the things you know you like?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

oh hello, dusty! my current go-to nude (ish) is MAC Jubilee, but it tends to veer a little to the brown side and i’d like something more nude and less neutral. i would love to see if Dusty would look good on me, but unfortunately it’s not available in anywhere in Canada =/.

That lipstick would probably look off on me! Glad you figured that melon out, BTW. =]

awww, poor lippie!……that mink eyeliner is gorgeous and it looks great on you!
I like experimenting with fruits and veggies, but not recipes so much.

Ooooh! I’m always up for a nice, natural no-makeup look! Even when oily skin hasn’t produced any pimples around my face, I definitely realize how much more… *tired* I look without some foundation. I think I’ll look out for that eyeliner when the time comes around 😀
And I am super adventurous when it comes to food! I can definitely handle dinuguan and I love trying different ethnic food! I think I’m one of the more adventurous eaters out of my group of friends 😛

I like the look of that lipstick, but spending that much to look ‘natural’ (foundation excepted!) is always a little bit of a head-scratcher for me. 🙂
I’m not an adventurous eater at all — there are too many flavors and textures that I dislike. Generally the only way I’ll try something new is if my husband is there to eat the rest if I hate it!

That’s so cool you went out and tried something new. I know, I know, It’s just a melon, but it is still really hard to break out of our comfort zones. I need to try Jouer sometime, but it will probably have to wait until I’m finished with school (ugh, still like 2 more years) because my wish list is longer than my budget can handle! Maybe if they have a good sale sometime… I’m a sucker for a sale!
Off topic from this post- I though it was so cute that Tabs likes basil. I had a basil plant once and my dogs ate the whole thing! They go crazy for basil, haha. Well, at least their breaths smelled good for once! Oh, and I wore EvRev today (with my favorite combo- Ever Hip lipstick) and got several compliments on it! It’s like what you said you wanted to create something even non-makeup fiends could love. It’s the lipgloss I’ve gotten the most compliments on ever!

Lol my husband got a kick out of your lipstick pic, his exact words for your husband were “I feel your pain brother”. LOL.

Oooo! I love that melon – called Ha Mi Melon, hee hee, and it’s my favorite melon out there. =) Juice it up for some seriously great tasting fruit juice…you’ll love it! =)

I love this line – all the products look really great. I love Bendel’s. One of my favorite places to visit when I’m in NYC. 🙂 I’m glad they carry Jouer, so I can try it out for myself.

I love that liquid liner! I just bought Stila Lionfish and I plan on mixing it with gold shadows to lighten it to a lighter golden brown.
I seriously do not let the boyfriend near my makeup. He knows that is he touches it, he’ll lose some digits. Or I’ll just be too upset to make cupcakes, which is the real punishment for him.
Erin says
You must keep husbands away from makeup! Lol

ive had that melon — it is a little bland and sometimes mealy/mushy. but refreshing nonetheless!
the lipstick — gorgeous!

That. Liquid. Liner.
OMG.
I’m running through the MUFE, Stila, and UD liquid liners in my head, and I can’t think of a comparable dupe. Anyone? Because that liner is yummy. Yummy enough to justify shipping.
Ava says
Love the liner! Jouer makes a great tinted moisturizer too.

Hi Karen,
You can peel the skin off that melon you know… no need to scoop it out!
When I was little, I used to eat the seeds because it’s the sweet part but I haven’t had on in years.

My current favorite nude lipstick is MAC’s Supreme Sheen in Impressive, but I may have to check this collection out!

My BF ruined one of my lipsticks before! He said he didn’t know how to open it. I then told him he didn’t have to open it if he didn’t know how. After that incident he never attempted to touch any of my cosmetics, specially my lipstick. 🙂

What top do you wear on the photo. It looks ravishingly!
Well, the nude look goes good for dark hair people, but I am blond and pale. I need color. It looks good on you.
inycat says
Yup – that’s a chamoe! My husband loves these Korean melons. I’m not a big fan. They’re always either too crunchy or too mushy – it’s really hard to get one with the texture just right. My big problem is with the flavor – it’s neither here nor there. I do however have many good memories of my Mom peeling chamoe for the family. I’m with you and would take watermelon over chamoe hands down.

Karen,
This post was cute! Your too much girl!! Yes, it seems our husband are all thumbs! Its painful to even watch mine try to text! HA!

I just stumbled on Jouer recently and have bought several items. I love the lipglosses and blushes, and really do like the mascara – layered over the Dior primer/serum it looks really good on my lashes – defined, a bit of volume and lots of length.
Cindy (Prime Beauty) says
I’m liking the nude lippie–it looks slightly warm, is it? And of course you had me at ‘bronze’ with the eyeliner. Sounds like I can do without the mascara since I love IN YOUR FACE lashes.
luv2smilexo says
that eyeliner looks so lovely. I have one that is similar in color, maybe a tad more copper, from Rimmel that really is fabulous and totally waterproof! However, the brush is a bit wonky so its kind of hard to work with.
Mary says
A chamoe melon? I’ve never even heard of it let alone seen it. Or maybe I did, but didn’t notice it. Interesting…See, I learn so many more things from you and they’re not just about makeup! 😀
Natalie says
Ha! Poor El Hub! It’s not his fault he’s just a boy! The lipstick pick cracked me up! 🙂
