I’m riding a wave of nerdiness right now, loving the clever wordsmithery that went into naming Eye Love Cucumbers Soothing Eye Gel ($15).
Eye Love Cucumbers… Get it? 🙂
My name is Karen, and I’m addicted to puns.
(HI, KAREN!)
Okay, so the name was the real reason I wanted to give the product a try.
Cucumbers: not just for salads anymore
One of several natural skincare goodies in the Yes to Cucumbers line, Eye Love Cucumbers Eye Gel is a highly-absorbent, moisturizing gel with some great things to offer.
Cucumbers, being 90% water, are popular in a lot of skincare products and said to be good at cleansing, cooling and hydrating the skin.
Eye Love Cucumbers is loaded with cucumber extract and other naturally soothing ingredients like aloe vera, green tea extract and chamomile. Plus, it’s paraben-, petroleum- and SLS-free (sodium lauryl sulfate).
Lots o’ hydration
I usually look for eye creams that are heavier than this one is, assuming they’ll pack more moisture, but Eye Love Cucumbers caught me by surprise.
This stuff delivers hydration by the veggie truckload; it’s probably one of the most moisturizing eye gels I’ve ever tried.
It’s cool to de-puff
When I apply it in the mornings, it produces a subtle cooling sensation (aaah!) that wakes me up before I go-go, deflating the sleepy, puffy skin around my eyes.
Final thoughts
- Eye Love Cucumber’s texture reminds me of an aloe Vera gel.
- Not surprisingly, it smells lightly of fresh cut cucumbers, yum!
- Although the product claims to reduce dark circles, I haven’t seen a big diff there (although I think it does reduce puffiness).
- Yes to Cucumbers says it’s made up of 99.6% natural ingredients (mostly plant extracts).
- For something marketed as a drugstore product, $15 is a little steep.
Being a primarily natural product, I’m guessing it should be well tolerated by a wide range of skin types, too.
Yes to Cucumbers Eye Love Cucumbers Soothing Eye Gel

Update: Conversion to a morning person
A Zen Habits article last week inspired me to try turning myself into a morning person, and it’s mostly been an uphill battle.
I have, however, made at least one notable discovery so far. Yesterday, I went to an early morning dance class that really helped me get my day off to a good start. Getting that workout out of the way first thing in the morning gave me a sense of accomplishment that carried throughout the day.
Yea for progress!
How’s your Monday coming along?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hmm I’ll have to check that out! My fave cheapy lip balm right now is from that same company, but under Yes To Carrots. It blows Chap Stick out of the water!

Hi Trude,
I’m testing a few of their lip balms right now. So far I really like the Lip Tints. Have you tried ’em?

I’m cracking up at Tabs also! Gotta try this stuff.

Hi AndreaMarie,
He’s one sassy cat. I think he’s still pissed at me for dressing him up as a cucumber — he’s been ignoring me all evening.
Catherine says
Hehehehehe, Tabs the cucumber is hilarious! I am def going to check this out though – I really need a depuffing eye cream/gel for those mornings when I just don’t get enough sleep and feel like my lids/undereyes are just bulging out of my head T_T; Today was one of those days haha. I was eyeing the 100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine eye cream… have you tried that, Karen?
Glad you’ve found a way to energize in the morning! =) SO and I are trying to get on a morning schedule lately. Mostly b/c I’m working/commuting 10 hrs a day and I just hate rushing out every morning and coming back so late every evening & then feeling tired because he keeps me up late at night (I can’t sleep if someone’s typing, or snoring, or anything, basically) because he’s on a totally different schedule working at home. One of our friends suggested working out in the morning too. I’ll have to remind him a bit more often. =)

Hi Catherine,
I haven’t tried that eye cream. It sounds like it’s a tightening one. Hmm, interesting…
You sound like a busy girl! I sometimes have trubs sleeping when it’s noisy, too. Have you tried ear plugs?
Vonvon says
Ohhhh….why don’t we have this brand over here???? I am always looking for stuff with lots of hydration functions! Hydration for the body, face, and yea, esp the eye area….because I did a skin analysis last week and my skin hydration is very poor and I always thought I have good skin. 🙁

Hi Vonvon,
I feel your dry skin pain. 🙂 One thing that helps me a ton is drinking water like there’s no tomorrow. Do you get your eight glasses a day?
Kate & Zena says
Ha ha, Tabs is cute.
My Monday has been pretty good. Summer has finally hit the Midwest. It’s been humid as h*** and hot. It was 91 yesterday with 78% humidity. It was better today so I walked Zena for the first time in days (humidity + asthma = a wheezing mess).
Napped with Zena, got tons of kisses from Zena, etc. On our way home from a walk, we saw a pair of Red-tailed Hawks perched high up on one of the steel telephone structures. Seeing Red-tailed Hawks in my area is rare as they aren’t suburb hawks. These hawks love hunting in wide open fields and prairies so seeing them here is strange…in a good way. They’re beautiful birds.
Zena was so confused seeing these birds and tilted her head when they gave out their raspy screech. It looked as if she were thinking, “What are those things? They sound awful! My ears!”
Karen says
Hi Kate & Zena,
Humidity plus heat is killer. Tell me there’s a lil’ bit of wind, at least! I can’t hang when it feels like a sauna outside.
I’ve seen a few red-tailed hawks while hiking around Nor Cal. I agree, they’re so beautiful to look at. 🙂
Give Zena a big hug for me!
Marce says
Yah, I agree with you Karen. Dancing or doing some sort of physical activity just gets yo’ juices flowing! It makes you feel alive! And happy! And ready to take on everything! (Or is that just me?) 😀

LOL, it’s not just you! I love the feeling it brings me … I wish I could bottle it up sometimes. 🙂

Heh. *Hi Karen!* Yah, I’m in that support group too!
Things are looking better today, although I’m not quite back to my normal, chipper state of being. I did grab the Armani duo in #4 yesterday (the gray/light brown duo) and it is stunning! I just have all sorts of combos in mind for it!
Good luck with that morning person thing! 😉
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Oh, I bet that duo looks beautiful on you! Smokey eyes, here you come. 🙂
Hope things get better for you soon. Tomorrow is another day.
Diana Kim says
I’m going to pick this up the next time i out shopping. I’ve been wanting a new eye cream.
Karen says
Hi Diana Kim,
It’s a really great drugstore eye gel. I hope you like it. 🙂
Kate & Zena says
Karen,
Today, it was 84 with 54% humidity with a nice breeze and–wait for it–overcast. I looked at the sky and thought, “What gives, dude? You make it nice and warm but no sun?!” Zena was just glad to get a walk for the first time in about three days. One day it thunderstormed (with a very relaxed, tranquilized Zena) and the other two it was just plain sticky.
On the 94 degree with 78% humidity, there wasn’t any wind so it was stifling. Everytime someone opened the door, my head would pound for a good 15 minutes as the thick humidity rolled into the air conditioned house.
My inhaler was my best friend that day as Zena was angry at me for not getting her walk. She hid two of her squeaky toys between my pillows in anger so when I went to recline on my pillows, they let out this huge squeak and about gave me a heart attack. When she heard the squeak, she ran up the stares with this giant smile and poked her head through my doorway like she was laughing at me. I now check for squeaky toys between my pillows before I recline. Then, what did I wake up to the next day? Zena digging her back paws into the side of my rib cage SNORING. Do you know how much it hurts to have paws digging into your side? Cute but extremely painful. She gave me the Look (y’know, the one where you were comfortable and someone ruined it look) when I rolled over too. She made up with me that afternoon finally by dropping her bunny squeaky toy at my feet.
The things we put up with and do for our pets.
Davina K. says
How about just putting on 2 slices of cucumber on your eyes? I mean, if the product is 99% natural, why don’t we just go with the natural stuff?? It’s certainly a lot cheaper!
Rachel says
This stuff sounds nice. This post is motivating me to put on my eye cream (eye hope) this morning. I want to feel awake hehe.
Stephie says
Cucumbers are the best. I really like gel texture I eye creams. Sometimes I feel regular creamy ones are too heavy for the eye lids. Too bad there’s no spf though. Cooling, lightwieght, moisturizing.. almost the perfect day time eye cream.
Got a sample of the Murad Vitamin C eye cream, can’t wait to try it out.

Adri says
This product leaves a residue that reminds me of hair gel.
Karen says
Hi Adri,
I noticed that if I apply too much that happens. It should go away if you apply it sparingly.
