Okay, here’s a product name I may not be able to remember: Estee Lauder DayWear Sheer Tint Release Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Moisturizer.
Wow, 12 words? It could be a sentence if we squeezed in a verb.
Let’s try it!
Estee Lauder Likes DayWear Sheer Tint Release Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Moisturizer…
Tada! 🙂 Let’s call it DayWear for short.
DayWear is a product I’d like to remember, because I think it has a few good things to offer fans of the barely-there makeup look. In a nutshell (I’ve always loved that phrase; I picture things in little nutshells), it’s a lightweight, super sheer tinted moisturizer that comes in just a single shade, and it’s designed to work on most skin tones, giving them a healthy, even-toned glow.
The product goes on as a grayish beige, but it slowly darkens as I massage it into my skin, which is kinda cool. The shade I end up with appears to be a pretty good match for my tan, and I like that its quiet, glowy finish doesn’t look flat or severe.
For scale…
“The all-day Super Anti-Oxidant Complex is so powerful,” Estee Lauder says about their proprietary blend, “no anti-oxidant we’ve researched comes close.” It’s a mix of compounds like Vitamins C and E, Eukarion (a synthetic anti-oxidant) and EGT (Ergothioneine, an amino acid with anti-oxidant properties).
Both of the active ingredients in the product, which is rated SPF 15, are sunscreens, octisalate (a UVB sunscreen) and avobenzone (a UVA sunscreen), so the general idea appears to be that it’s a tinted moisturizer that prevents sun damage.
Unblended on left and blended (almost invisible) on right
DayWear offers very, very sheer coverage, which does even out the blotchiness around my nose and mouth a little bit, but it’s too sheer to conceal pimples or anything like that.
Like most Estee Lauder products, DayWear is scented, and the fragrance is pretty strong, too. It also lingers on the skin. I think it smells like a sunscreen, but I also detect notes of ripe banana and papaya. Overall it’s not unpleasant, but you might want to give it a sniff before you buy.
I like DayWear, but I think it’s of limited use. I could see myself reaching for it on vacation, like when I wanted to quickly add a hint of color en lieu of full makeup, but I normally prefer face products that provide more coverage, especially when it’s something this pricey.
If you like the scent and need very little coverage, it could be worth a try.
PRICE: $43 for a 1.7-oz. tube
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Estee Lauder counters and also online

wow, that does end up matching your skin really well – that’s pretty cool.
the nutshell things reminds me of Austin Powers 🙂

I am almost ashamed to admit how many times I’ve watched that movie.
“I’m in a nutshell!”

Hmm, how does this compare to Clinique’s City Block, I wonder? At any rate, I’ve been using TM by TheBalm lately. It’s… the bomb (hahaha, yeah, I’m corny)… It’s great – lots of product with a doable price. I just wish it also came in more colors as they only have 3.
Karen says
I used to wear City Block a looooong time ago and from what I recall that has slightly more coverage.
Rosa says
Beware, if you’re very pale like me, you’ll look like an orange fool if you put this all over your face…(never doing that again)
Karen says
Oh boy, that’s good to know! Thanks Rosa!

id like my tinted moisturizer to have a bit more coverage.
however, this product is the type of product that would be perfect for the hot and humid houston summers.
Karen says
It has a nice glowy finish that’s really pretty! Maybe just try it for fun?

i have a mall trip coming up with my sister this weekend. ill try and ask for a sample and test it out! 🙂

Oh how fun! Girl time is always a good thing. 🙂 Are you going with something specific in mind, or are you two just gonna window shop?

Have you heard of the new Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation? It has a color-match technology that adjusts to the color of your skin. It’s pretty cool. All of us in the office are trying it and quite impressed with how well its blends into the color of our skin. Plus, the Organic Argan Oil in the foundation helps to reduce shine and keep the skin hydrated. It’s worth checking out.
Karen says
I have! I reviewed it a while back.

As intriguing as “goes on as a grayish beige” sounds… 🙂 Just kidding, of course, but that did make me laugh as I was thinking “ew”. That said, it is a great match when blended on you. Rosa’s comment above also made me giggle, so I guess I’m just giddy today.
Something would have to be pretty great for me to give up my Tarte Smooth Operator, though, and it doesn’t sound like this is it. I promise I’ll stop talking about my love for that product, someday. 🙂
Karen says
Haha, when I first squeezed a little bit out of the tube I was like, “Ew.” But for some reason it works, go figure!
Please continue to gush about Smooth Operator, because it’s awesome!
Kim says
Thank you! Every time I see someone who’s foundation is a little cakey or flaky, I’m always tempted to be like “have you tried Smooth Operator?!”. Thankfully I stop myself. 🙂

Sounds like something I’d have to sniff before I decide if I’m gonna buy.
Karen says
Definitely give it a sniff first! It’s very strong.
Kristina says
Have you tried Clinique’s Moisture Sheet Tint? I have been through about 3 or 4 tubes of this – I even wear this for a night out! give it a try (or a review!) 🙂

I haven’t. I’ll have to check out the shades to see if one works for me. Thanks, Kristina! 🙂
Kristina says
No problem 🙂 I believe it’s 1/2 the US price of the EL product.. I think it comes in 2 shades only 🙂

I can’t stand anything with a strong scent on my face. My lips, fine (as long as it’s not a plastic, synthetic smell), but face, no. Just thinking about it makes my face itch.
Karen says
I hear ya. The second I get a whiff of anything plastic-y or synthetic I’m out!

Even though I really like Estee Lauder’s foundations (I’m wearing DayWear Plus tinted moisturizer now and Double Wear Light is my go-to for long days), I think I might have to pass on this.
On another note, has anyone here tried Birch Box? I just subscribed this week and am absurdly excited about getting my first one next month.
Karen says
I haven’t, but it sounds like fun. You have to let me know if you find any gems!
gio says
This sounds interesting but I have pale skin and I’m afraid I may look orange if I try it. I wish it was available in more shades though.
Karen says
It’s always a little iffy when lines offer a one size fits all color, unfortunately. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried products like this to only have it look all ashy on my skin.
Milka says
I have this and I hate it. It covers nothing, feels very greasy and it broke me out. The tint on it it’s supposed to be “smart” and mimic your skin tone, but it’s more of a soft bronzing effect that can look orangey on fair skin. Overall, it is not worth the price.
Karen says
Good to know about the orangey look on fair skin. Thanks, Milka.
Karen says
I love their old DayWear Plus TM. Atleast that one had different shades. But I can always get that at the CCO, so not a real loss.
Mira says
Great blog! I’ve been reading for a while now.
I like makeup…..just not one me, on other people it’s fine!
What I hate most (for myself) is foundation, but sometimes skin could use a little help. I have dry/combination skin and olive complexion. I tried loads of tinted moisturizers with no success and then I found DayWear! I wasn’t buying the one size fits all thing until I tried it….Really sheer, really lightweight = Big Love!
