Obvs, the packaging.
Like, what are these? From the front they kinda look like jewelry to me, like you could wear one as an earring or a statement necklace (a statement pendant?), and from the side, they look like, I dunno…Saturn? Or perhaps a doughnut with a jelly center.
Mmm, doughnuts…
OK, so these aren’t jewelry, doughnuts or Saturn. They’re actually lip balms! They’re the new $22 The Estée Edit Cocobalms, and The Estée Edit is a relatively new makeup line from Estée Lauder that splashed on the scene at Sephora a few months ago.
It’s like the younger, hipper, more casual branch of Estée Lauder because, you know, Estée Lauder has a bit of a rep among many makeup lovers for being more stately, mature and refined.
The Estée Edit is their shout-out to risk takers and rule breakers, like the girl who goes to brunch wearing a flower crown, a flowing Free People tee, tassled shorts and gladiator shoes.
The Estée Edit recently released these new coconut-infused Cocobalms ($22 each) — lip balms infused with coconut oil — and there are one, two, three, four, five of them (extra points if you read that sequence like The Count from Seasame Street).
They vary in intensity, with the sheerest ones being mostly just pure shine with very little pigment.
I’ve been using three of ’em — Coco Peach, Coco Blush and Coco Berry — and texture-wise, finish-wise and performance-wise, they’re all pretty much the same.
The formula feels thick, slightly sticky and hangs around for a few hours, so before I give Connor a snuggle and a kiss while wearing one, I have to remind myself to wipe it off, and I also have to remember to use some elbow grease when I do it, because these take some effort to remove. They really cling to the lips.
Oh, and yes, they do have a coconut scent, but it’s very faint. I can barely smell it, but it’s there. I don’t really detect a flavor, though.
About the packaging, did I mention how they work? You lift the silver top, then squeeze the colorful center part, and gloss comes out of a tiny applicator. Seems pretty innovative, but they aren’t the easiest glosses to use when I’m on the move.
The formula is also modestly moisturizing, so if your lips are dry all the time (the struggle is so real!), these should do an OK job keeping ’em soft and smooth.
They’re $22 each, and you can find them now at Sephora.
Filed under “Things That Entertain Me While I’m Running”
In other news…I think I mentioned that I’ve been getting back into running after quite a few months off, but I haven’t had the guts yet to start running again outside.
Running outside is so different than running on the treadmill. You have to be more aware of your surroundings and watch where you’re putting your feet because, ya know, if you step on a rock or a slip on the pavement, you’re going down (I speak from experience, LOL!).
And you also have to watch out for traffic and be careful that you don’t get lost (again, speaking from experience!). But the thing about the treadmill is that it’s SO FREAKING BORING.
Oh — get this! I used to have my treadmill in what is now Connor’s room. It faced a window so I could look outside and watch birds and people and cats and dogs, and see people going to the neighborhood pool and cars driving by, but now the treadmill is in my bedroom facing a blank wall…so running on it is beyond monotonous. I’ve taken to watching videos on my phone to entertain myself while I run (slowly, so as not to trip over my own feet).
I discovered this whole genre of YouTube videos from people who post videos of themselves doing dance choreography, and it’s fascinating!
OK, well…it might not be fascinating if you don’t like dancing at all, but check it out! There’s this one guy named Matt Steffanina, and he has his choreography music on a loop, so the same part of the song plays over and over again, and he’ll have students from his class do the dance.
It’s neat to see how different people interpret the same moves and really make them their own.
For some weird reason, watching people in motion helps me run a little harder. I dunno… Give it a watch.
So what did you do today? I just got back from the dentist for a cleaning and found out that I don’t have any new caveties (YAY!).
It’s the little things, ya know? 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Ooh I loooove coconut. How hydrating are these on a 1 to 10?
Karen says
Pretty hydrating! I’d say about a 7. 🙂
Becky says
These sound pretty fun. Oh, and a counted like The Count, then literally laughed out loud when I read the line about Sesame Street below it! Ha! Loving having you back on the blog, Karen. I love your posts!
Beekeyper – Latest – Nuxe Rêve de Miel – in a stick!
Karen says
Thanks, Becky! P.S. I always thought it would be fun to hang out with The Count, haha!
Nivedita says
I am not sure if I would have paid much attention until I saw the full case. It looks like such a beautiful and squishy fun product. If I do get it, I would want merely for the packaging.
Karen says
Yes, the packaging is very pretty!
Janet Shepherd says
Ooh I kind of want one of these just for the fun packaging! 😀
Karen says
Hi Janet,
Aren’t they cute? Almost like a work of art that you can hold in the palm of your hand.
How’s your summer going so far?
Janet Shepherd says
I’m in Australia, so it’s winter here! I currently have a bit of a cold, so I’m resting & trying to keep my fluids up etc. All that boring self-care stuff that we should do all the time, but tend to be lazy about until we get sick!
Otherwise, not much happening here. It was my hubs birthday yesterday, we got Thai food for dinner & he had an ice cream cake for his birthday cake (like you!)
LindaLibraLoca says
2016 seems to be the year of the special packaging lip products. I don’t think I’d be too keen on the product itself, but the packaging looks interesting.
Karen says
The whole line is packaged beautifully. Very easy-going and fun!
Hope you’re having a nice day so far and that you and the kiddos are doing well. 🙂
Kiss & Make-up says
Oh my god, how cute are these?? 😀
Karen says
So cute, right?
Marina (Makeup4all) says
Hey Karen,
It’s been a while since I left a comment. Those blushers look neat, I love the Berry shade.
And yay for getting back into running, I hope to get back into my routine soon myself.
Karen says
Hi Marina,
It’s good to hear from you again! How are you? I hope that things on your end of the keyboard are good. Tabs says hello and sends you purrs and kitty whisker kisses. 🙂
Indya says
These are pretty, but I’m afraid the tint won’t show up on me :-/
I tried the running indoors thing a couple times, and each time was uncomfortable. Just made me dizzy and thirsty 🙁
Karen says
Hi Indya,
I think that’s kind of the point, since these are designed for sheer coverage. 🙂 Running indoors is convenient but so boring, gah! I only do it because it’s easy.
Hope you’re having a good week so far!
Carolina Braina says
Well, I’m both a packaging geek and a coconut freak, so if these ever make it to Italy…
As a retired dancer, I find choreography videos highly addictive… I watch one and suddenly an hour of my life has gone!
Karen says
Hi Carolina!
I didn’t know you used to dance. What kind of dance did you do? I did hip hop for a few years, with a little bit of jazz and ballet thrown in the mix (although I was never very good at jazz or ballet because it didn’t move my soul like hip hop did/does).
Carolina Braina says
I did hip hop too, for about 10 years. Fun times!
Lulle says
Didn’t Estée Lauder release something very similar with their Courrèges collection last year? I remember round glosses from then!
I don’t think I could run more than 15-20 minutes on a treadmill… It’s hard enough when I’m outside, but I try to go out with a running buddy so we can chat (or they chat while I’m trying to keep breathin…). On my own, inside my house, I would give up very fast!
Ankita@corallista says
I love how Coco Berry looks on you. Like the look of the packaging as well!
Chris25 says
It’s great how they look like jewelry. And the shades make them look edible, too.
Kim says
Holy cow – they’re much bigger than I thought (from looking at the first pic). And, of course, very cool looking. You’ll be happy to know that I did count like The Count, even without prompting. 🙂 I hear you on the treadmill but at least, unlike outside, I don’t have to try to look like I’m not panting/sweating every time a car or person passes. HAHA!
PS I like how you just casually dropped the “oh, went to the dentist for a cleaning”. I know how much you dread that, so I’m glad it went well!
Twyla Munden says
I bought the Coconut Blush but returned it because I hated the application packaging.. I found it got all over the silver base and thus on my nose & chin the next time I went to use it..that killed it for me and wasn’t worth the $26CA
Tatiana says
Those balms are cute. At this stage I’m not sure I need one more lip balm product floating around my house. Couldn’t find any, then I opened one purse pocket and there were at least four balms in there, and uncounted lipstick colors.
Yeah, for running. I’m trying to get back into it too. My trainer gave me an assignment to go to the local high school track and run then walk a certain number of laps. I couldn’t even make it around the track once without gasping and coughing for breath. So much work ahead of me. Lol.
Loved the video. Wish I could move like that. Completely tone deaf and without rhythm here.
Doreen says
Hi Karen,
Glad to see you back?
Connor Clair is gorgeous..awww so sweet. She looks a lot like you.
The Estee Lauder Lip balm’s I think I like the berry..it show’s up more.
Neat little compacts.
Doreen
Leah Rose says
The packaging is so cool!
kwmechelle says
Coco Blush is a beaut on you. Really like the packaging too. It does look innovative & similar to Saturn. I wouldn’t get much use out of these but I am the girl they’re marketing this line to- Free People, flower crowns, halo braids, gladiator sandals, & tasseled shorts- all my thing. In other news, I’m pet sitting. She’s a four year old golden doodle named Lucy & she’s a doll. I’ve labeled her a princess & I’m the queen, obvs. Glad you’re getting back into your running routine, albeit different in scenery. I find that doing little things that I enjoy serve as great pick me ups & mood enhancers. And you know I love dancing! My niece had a recital last weekend. She’s taking ballet & hip hop. I was never one for ballet, but she’s definitely a chip off the old block with her hip hop moves. Take care, friend ?
Wina says
I love your pictures

Coco Berry sounds looks great!
