Like a confetti party for your paws, Essie’s four new Holiday 2015 Luxeeffects nail polishes have So. Much. Glitter.
Glorious gobs of glittering, glistening, lens-flare inducing glitter!
And the glitter comes in different shapes, colors and sizes, all of it suspended in a clear nail polish base, so you won’t be stuck staring at standard-issue sparkle. No, way. There’s gunmetal gray and pink glitter in Fringe Factor, platinum and cobalt in Frilling Me Softly, copper and bronze in Tassel Shaker and maroon sparkly flecks in Fashion Flares.
I’m wearing each of the four by themselves in the swatches here (two coats, by the way), but because they all have a clear base, you can also use them to add a glittery topcoat to something else.
The little glitter strips totally remind me of confetti.
All four $8.50 bottles are limited edition, and you can find them now online and at salons, drugstores and Ulta.
The only thing is…yup, like most glitters, they’re tough as nails to remove (ha, get it?). I do it right after I get out of the shower, and I use Essie Naturally Clean Purifying Polish Remover.
Stuff is GREAT at removing glitters.

Karen

That Pink one looks lovely on you….
Karen says
Thanks, R! Which one is your favorite shade?
HeraKitty says
You must try the Sephora Instant Nail Polish Remover for Glitter. Its like magic! #lifesaver ☺️ ??
Karen says
Hi HeraKitty,
I haven’t tried that one yet! I’ll put it on my list for the next time.
Have you done any Sephora hauling lately?
HeraKitty says
Hi there!
I was one of those people who got upset over the Sephora VIB sale (Im a VIBRouge) when the discount was not offered last weekend. I held off buying stuff during the VIB Rouge weekend because I needed time to really think about buying things I dont really need. (Procrastinator! ??) I did get the Sephora concealers that you mentioned on here, the MUFE stick foundation and the Give Me More Lip Sephora favorites collections from Sephora and Sephora JC Penney (Im really bad at remembering these product names and configurations!). I also bought two Marc Jacobs lip lacquers (rebel rebel and sugar sugar) which I really love. Not much but I think Ill be okay for now until maybe Black Friday….
How about you? Any recently hauled item that you really love?
Have a great day! XO
Karen says
I did some in-store hauling at Sephora, but seriously, it was the most boring shopping trip everrrrr. I mostly just stocked up on hair stuff that I use all the time — dry shampoos from Living Proof, a root concealer by Rita Hazan, some Bumble & Bumble conditioner. I also grabbed a couple of Sephora concealers. 🙂
How are you liking those Marc Jacobs Lip Lacquers?
HeraKitty says
I am really liking the Marc Jacobs Enamored lip lacquers! I like that they are not sticky nor goopy. I love the soft applicators which kind of bend a little as you glide it on your lips. I also love that they are minty but not too minty and the Rebel Rebel (love the blue base) just gives that hint of color together with the shine. It just feels fresh. I guess Im more of a lipgloss than lipstick (and sheer at that) kind of girl. Im not adept with matte lipstick applications but Ive acquired a few Mac staples which I use on occasions. Sugar Sugar is great over lipstains and matte lipsticks based on my experience. I bought that Mac Fast Play because of you! Its awesome. 🙂 Thank you!
Karen says
Ooh, that blue based shade sounds really pretty. *Must swatch next time I’m at Sephora*. 😀
I’m so glad you like Fast Play! I bet it looks pretty with a sheer lipgloss on top.
Speaking of sheer glosses, have you ever tried the Buxom ones? They have a whole bunch of them named after girls and they are SO pretty. I’m wearing Ava right now, which is a sheer pink brown. I think you’ll like it… It would also look great with Fast Play!
Rachel R. says
These are really pretty. I love Fashion Flares.
Karen says
Hi Rachel R.!
I like these too. Are you a glitter person when it comes to polish? I am to a degree. I like a little bit as an accent, or one glittery accent nail.
Hope you had a nice weekend!
Rachel R. says
I’m a glitter person when it comes to anything.
Karen says
I like it too! On my face and nails I prefer controlled doses. But when it comes to glitter accessories, like purses and shoes, OH YEAH! Then I go glitter crazy. Have you ever seen the glitter heels from Kate Spade?!
Rachel R. says
Not in person, but I just googled them and they’re amazing. My wide feet would never fit in them, though. 😀
Karen says
Yeah, they’re a work of art! I tried them on once and shed a little tear because they weren’t very comfortable as far as heels go. I’m kind of at the point where if the shoes aren’t comfy from the get go, I don’t even bother! But yeah, they’re so pretty.
Kate Spade also does occasional glitter purses and whatnot that are also very pretty. If I see one I’ll try to remember to send you a link just so you can admire! #glitterloversunite
LindaLibraLoca says
I prefer how they look in the bottle, but I am not keen on glitter polishes anyway.
Jessica says
I love sparkly!!
Kiss & Make-up says
Not really my cup of tea, this. I prefer traditional glitter. Or maybe confetti.
Agata says
I really like the look of glitter on my nails but removing it is so much work that I usually don’t even bother with glitter nail polish. I might have to try that Essie nail polish remover.
Kelly B. says
These are the PERFECT polishes for New Years Eve parties! I always love Essie’s holiday collections, they do a great job!
Kim says
Fun! Tassel and Fringe remind me of metal filings (if your nails were the magnets!). They probably look really cool over other colors, too, as you say. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Kim,
Yes! And you know what else would be fun? Mixing and matching the different glitters. You could do some cool effects that way too.
Are you wearing any polish this week? I’m going through a dark burgundy cream phase and I’m currently wearing Smith & Cult’s Dark Like Me.
Kim says
That’s true! I think Fashion and Frilling could be cool. 🙂
I’m almost ashamed to admit that I’ve been wearing Essie Ballet Slippers. I know, I know – I always pick sheer and slightly pink. HAHA! I’m definitely more adventurous with my toenails but the poor things haven’t had much attention since sandal season. About DLM, I think it’s the season, you know? Something about fall makes burgundy so appealing. We haven’t talked weather in a while but it’s been stunningly nice here. Not even a snowflake and I think it was supposed to be in the low 50s this afternoon (almost unheard of!).
PS Boys have their first band concert tonight. Pls send them some good Band Geek vibes! 🙂

I love glitter but almost never use them. I agree the grey and silver do look like metal shavings. LOL I think these are festive but not exactly for me.
And, I have to confess, this is the first time in probably 15-20 years that I did NOT purchase from Sephora. Things are just getting priced way too high for me to even consider a splurge.
My splurge this year was those 2 little UD lippies from Ulta. WOO HOO ugh…lol
Suzan Lopatin says
Karen, I like the way these look on you, but I have found this type of polish to be bumpy in the past. Do the glittery pieces keep the smooth finish from happening?
Diane says
Thank you for mentioning what you use to remove these! I love glitter polishes, especially for this time of year. Not so much for the festiveness, but because they don’t show nicks/chips the same way, which means I get more wear out of them and have time to do everything else without fussing too much with my nails! I’ve hesitated here recently, because it’s so hard to remove these—I look forward to trying the Essie remover.
Karen says
Hi Diane,
I hope you like it. It helps to remove the polish right after you take a shower, too, that way you give it some time to soak up and absorb water. Oh, and I’ve also heard good things about the Sephora Formula X Glitter Polish remover, too! I haven’t tried it yet but will let you know if it’s any good when I do.
Have a nice day!
