So much metallic, glittery, shimmery goodness for just $2.99! I almost can’t believe it’s true, because sometimes, when you add glitter, metallics and discount together, the formula equals “something sketchy.”
But in this case the formula equals fun.
You know how I feel about sci-fi… LOVE IT! And that might be one of the reasons I like these new $2.99 Essence Metal Glam Eyeshadows. Pressed metallic shadows with a glittery overspray, their shiny, shimmery metallic finish looks kinda like Terminator-esque liquid metal/chrome.
You can wear them wet or dry, but I prefer wet because it turns up the intensity of the metallic effect (metallic-ness?). And I figure that if you’re going to wear metallics on your lids, you might as well go all out.
For me, they were a little tricky to apply at first, but once you get the hang of ’em, I think you get a lot of bang for your buck.
I mean, shoot, they’re only $2.99.
The trick is figuring out how to keep the fallout under control. Use a fluffy brush like the MAC 217 or 224, and you could very well end up with sheer shimmer on your lids and glitter all over your cheeks.
Now, if that’s what you want, it’s all good.
But I like to just use a clean wet finger. It gets the job done and eliminates fallout. Plus, because the finger’s wet, it cranks up the intensity of the pigments and shine.
I’ll wet a finger with MAC Fix+, swipe it across the pan a few times to pick up some product, and apply on my lids.
BOOM! — dramatic metal.
Most of the time I use just one color — the teal shade, Jewel Up the Ocean, is a fave — on my lids, because 1) I like the impact from one bold shade, and 2) only using one means less blending, ha!
Then, I sweep bronzer, or a matte brown, into the crease, and pile on the mascara. Fini.
Bachelorette party and themed costume night approved. 🙂 The Metal Glams are a good way to do “going out” makeup that doesn’t require a ton of blending (so you can knock out your look fast), and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
PRICE: $2.99 each

To wear ripped jeans, or not to wear ripped jeans? — that is the question
I keep seeing girls wearing purposefully ripped (aka “distressed”) jeans, and I’m kind of liking the look, but there’s something bugging me about buying a brand new pair of pants that are already destroyed.
It makes me grit my teeth a little, not gonna lie. Or maybe I’m just a grumpy goat, since I already have a few pairs of ripped jeans… They’re just not stylishly distressed like the ones I keep seeing in stores.
Booty/crotch holes in yo’ jeans = not so fashion-forward. 🙂
Anywho, what’s your stance? Do you do distressed jeans?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Well, maybe next time I’m doing a Terminator-themed night I’ll go for the metals, but a bit too much for me on a regular day/night. And I will pass on the ripped jeans, too. Boy, am I ever boring these days 😉

I love me some shimmer 😀 I think he blue would make a fabulous accent as a powder over liner, and the coffee and apple shades are just pretty anyway.
I have the same feelings as you about distressed jeans – some look cool, but there’s something a bit naff about it too. Oh, the difficult problems we face in life!

I did buy a pair of ripped jeans last year but I never want to wear them because they make me feel like a heel.

I love the way other people look in distressed jeans, but I’m not sure I can pull them off. I like them better when they’re ripped from wear versus just ripped as a style.

O-Em-Gee, was just looking for a shimmery-teal blue to use in my tear duct, juxtaposed with a subtle gold eyeshadow on the lid + a matte color as my transition color.
This is up my alley & the price point makes it a steal. This isn’t a look I’d wear everyday so scoring an affordable, yet quality one, is super sweet.
And, yes, distressed jeans all day, errr’day. Lol! I’m a DIY chick so I’d never purchase them- unless they were an affordable pair of designer jeans; which might be available at an outlet. Just a thought☺️

LOL I love the ripped jeans look! It’s kinda funky. I only own one pair that I haven’t even worn because I don’t know what to wear with them yet. These shadows are quite pretty though! I love Coffee to Glow!

Love the blue and bronze eyeshadows – and $3 amazing!
As to ripped jeans I have a few pairs, and love them. They look great with casual or turn something more dressy (say a boxy blazer) into something super easy for shopping or brunch or ramen or any activity really!
Also the pre-holed ones have grown and gotten more ‘natural’ over time so really it just speeds up the process. I love AE jeans – and they aren’t too expensive so a great way to try out the trend.
I’d say start with something like a boy cut or a crop – they will feel more easy to wear than a tight pair – and it’s coming to summer in the Northern Hemisphere so they will be a great transition pant while it’s still too cold for shorts, but you want to show that you’re ready to get some more skin out.

I love Essence’s products.
I agree with you on the ripped jeans. I was going to purchase a Guess jean skirt but left it (for now) as I was on the fence about it being ripped. From my sewing studies, I’ve learned ripped items don’t last or hold up to wear and tear.

As for the jeans, minor distressing in the right places is cool with me. I tend to shy from those because I have pets that would turn them to shreds within a few wears. Not so cute anymore!

These look great! Haven’t tried them for fear of fallout, but with the wet-finger-application tip, the price is right I think! Also, I am having a ball reading through all these posts I missed when I got busy at the tail-end of winter (ok, so it’s spring, but in Northern Michigan, we still have snow… yep). It’s good to be back!

These are looking pretty great for the price! I like the idea of wearing them with just some brown in the crease. I just got a pair of slightly distressed jeans from Loft and really love them since they’re a darker wash, skinny, and only have a few spots of distressing.
