This is how I feel when I don’t fuss with my hair in the morning:
The joy stems from the extra 20 minutes of sleep it saves me, I kid you not!
And, truth be told, I think my mane just looks better after a day or two between washes (or um…three or four).
But then there’s the whole greasy roots thing, which is why I’m never too far from a bottle of dry shampoo. Rocking my world these days is En Root Detour A-Head Dry Shampoo ($19) by theBalm. Yes, theBalm, as in the makeup line.
They just launched a line of hair care products that includes shampoos, conditioners and styling products.
En Root Detour A-Head Dry Shampoo absorbs oil, adds body, lifts my roots and smells springy and delicious — like a mix of cherry blossoms and vanilla.
PRICE: $19

What’s up, Wednesday?
Ahhh…big stretch. I can’t believe it’s Wednesday already. This week is flying by so fast!
Not much planned for today other than cater to Tabs’ crazy. When the weather starts getting warm (we’re supposed to hit the upper 70s here in the North Bay Area), all he wants to do is play outside, so all day long, he’ll meow around my desk, climb up on my lap and basically get up in my grill until I give in and take him out.
Do your pets do funny things when they want something from you? Tabs could teach graduate courses on the art of manipulating the humans…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

theBalm is making hair products now? Interesting news! I laid my hands on both Klorane dry shampoos recently, and talk about crushing hard! It actually does lift my roots without drying my hair out (my biggest gripe with Batiste. That thing is not made for me)!
Both Tango and Muffin are very vocal (my bad. I found out way too late that the more you talk to cats, the more vocal they become), so when they want something from me they get SUPER talkative. Tango would start jumping up places he shouldn’t be and pushing things off (how does he know it drives me insane???), and Muffin would stalk me and meow in the most pathetic way. This usually happens when she wants her playtime (not as obsessed with food). She’ll end up sitting on my slipper so that I really can’t fail to notice her when I stand up! Oh cats 😉
Karen says
Hi Sunny,
How funny. When Tabs really wants attention he’ll start acting out by pawing at piles of paper or stretching out across my keyboard.
These cats rule our lives…
Ruchita says
Now that my hair is gettng longer (about collar bone length) I’ve been washing my hair every other day. I would much rather sleep longer or cuddle with Nina kitty rather than getting up earlier to do my hair. 🙂 I’ve been digging Dove’s dry shampoo but I’m always open to trying new brands!
We had to start blocking the patio door curtain b/c Mingus would continually pace back and forth when he wanted to go out. He’ll also paw at the front door. When he wants food, he’ll do this game where he comes into the living room, sits down and looks at us and then gallops into the kitchen. This happens multiple times!
Ella loves cuddles. She’ll just jump on your lap without warning and will start purring. Then you’re held hostage!
Nina is especially spoiled. She just has to look at me with her big green eyes and give a squeaky meow and she gets what she wants, which is usually food.
These cats have got me trained quite well! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
Mingy, Ella and Nina all sound like fun cats to assist. 🙂 I would love for Tabs to have sisters, but you know he’s not having any of that.
I got such a kick out of seeing Mingy in the snow! Do Nina and Ella like it too?
Ruchita says
I haven’t let Ella or Nina outside in the snow yet. Ella is a bit of a diva, so I don’t think she’d enjoy it. She does love going out in the summer and nomming on grass.
Nina is more adventurous and would probably love it. She’s so small and fast, we don’t let her roam around by herself.
Mingy spent all his formative years on the streets, so he’ll go outside any chance he can get!
I’m not sure if fostering a kitty temporarily would work for you. I totally agree (and have learned from experience) that some cats need to be the only ones in the household. It’s not fair to cause them stress. It’s tough, b/c I would love to open my home and be able to help another kitty.
Maybe some day if I win the lottery, I can open a cat sanctuary. 🙂
Karen says
That’s my dream too. I think all cat ladies fantasize about it!
I was surprised to see Mingy without a leash. If I let Tabs out “au naturale” he’d be off like a rocket!
Ruchita says
Haha, “au naturale”, I like that. 🙂 Mingy’s gotten pretty good about staying close. Sometimes when we get home from work we’ll let him out for a few minutes to get some fresh air. It’s still too cold (for me!) for extended walks with the leash.
Karen says
My big fear with Tabs is that he’ll see another cat and chase after the poor thing. He’s territorial and kind of a thug. 🙁 Maybe I’ll be able to take him out sans leash when he gets older and mellows out. 🙂
How long have you had Mingy? He’s such a good boy!
Ruchita says
Yep, there have been a few times Mingy’s chased after another cat.
He showed up in our garage in October 2010. I saw him when I was taking out the trash. That night we fed him and he went on his way. But then he started coming back on a regular basis. He may have been 1 or 2 years old back then. After a couple of months, we took him to the vet to get fixed and then he was ours! I never had any pets before him. He’s my first and will always have a special place in my heart. 🙂
Karen says
Tabs did the same thing with us. He literally showed up on the doorstep one day and then never quite left! I’m sure the gravy helped seal the deal.
The kitties that choose you, I think, are extra special. 🙂

Adding to my list #1 Klorane, #2 En Root Detour A-Head Dry Shampoo

Karen says
Hey Monica,
Have you tried have Rene Furterer’s Dry Shampoo? Hers is great too, and one of my faves.
Angela @ The Unprofessional Beauty Blog says
I didn’t even know that theBalm is coming out with their own hair line until I read this. The brand makes some great makeup products, I can only imagine that the hair products will be wonderful as well.
Karen says
Yup! You can find it now at Ulta stores.
Kiss & Make-up says
Cute packaging. I am actually looking for a good new dry shampoo. My current one has been letting me down lately.
Karen says
Which one have you been using?
Leah @ Mile High Beauty Blog says
Oooooh! I want to try this. I’ve been using Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible for a few years now and really like it except for the scent, which smells like fruit loops. I don’t dislike the scent so much but I wish it was a bit more subtle and didn’t clash with my usual perfume which is vanilla based. It sounds like this would compliment that rather than fight to overpower it.
When the weather is nice my pups think that every time I stand up I’m going to get their leashes. They really work the guilt trip when they want to go on a w-a-l-k. Usually I open the door to the front porch and they sit on the chairs in the sun and bark at the people walking by.
Karen says
Hi Leah,
I’ve tried that Oscar Blandi one, and I agree — it’s great, but the scent is very strong. Have you tried Rene Furterer’s? Kinda pricey, but I like it because the scent is not so in your face.
Leah @ Mile High Beauty Blog says
I haven’t tried that one yet either. I may have to though since you recommend it 🙂 Dry Shampoo is such a lifesaver.
Karen says
I really like it. I’ve used it on and off for 10 years now. It’s my fave!
How often do you wash your hair? If I curl it, I try to go at least 2-3 days.
Leah @ Mile High Beauty Blog says
Unfortunately my hair has a two day MAX. Even if I wash my “bangs” and use dry shampoo it’s texture is pretty fine and turns blah very quickly. Three days would be pretty fantastic!
Lauren says
I really want to try this! I have had so many negative experiences with dry shampoo. I’m hoping that this is as amazing as I want it to be.
Karen says
Hi Lauren,
I hope you give it a go and that you like it.
Have you tried anything else from theBalm before? I like their concealer a lot.
Chris says
I agree, my hair looks better a day old. I’m loving the 2nd picture with your hair in motion 😉
Karen says
Hi Chris,
Yeah, I don’t know what it is…second day hair is always easier to manage for me! How often do you wash yours?
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
I am always wary of dry shampoos–especially the aerosol ones–because they either smell really, really bad or they make my hair feel even greasier than before…or BOTH! I am not sure I would try this one but I did recently give the Batiste Fresh scent one a try and it’s actually quite nice! I think that one is my next to try after I finish my current Oscar blandi one
Karen says
Hi Becca,
This smells really good! I think you’ll like it.
Olivia says
So exciting that they came out with hair goodies!
Karen says
Yup! There’s lots of products to choose from, too. Shampoos, conditioners, a hair mask… even hair mascaras!
Rachel Gilley says
I am digging on the Alterna one, the only one I’ve tried that doesn’t look like spray chalk in my dark hair.
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
Thanks for the rec. I haven’t tried that one — adding it to the list!
Alison M says
I’m dying to try theBalm’s dry shampoo. I wash my hair every other day, but would love to do it less. Blow-drying is just so drying and damaging, but if I don’t wash, I have zero style. Crossing my fingers dry shampoo will work for me.
Kim says
I’m a daily washer but maybe could skip a day with a dry shampoo. I’m on the fence about trying one. Speaking of brands branching out, I don’t know where I’ve been but I recently saw Pacifica in Target AND with a makeup line. That’s probably old news.
I can always tell when the kitties are low on food because they all swarm me and follow me around like I’m the Pied Piper. At least Tabs is polite enough to “encourage” you to take him out. Our cats lie in wait and charge as soon as the door opens to try to make their escape. The most common heard sentence in our house when going in or out (and all the kids’ friends learn immediately) is: Watch for the cats!
Karen says
Hmm, interesting! The Sephora near my house stopped carrying the line (BOO). Was the makeup lip products? I think they’ve been doing those for a while.
Anywho, funny how it is with cats and food. I’d like to think that Tabs is all into me because I’m awesome, but no! It’s because he wants something. 🙁
Kim says
It’s definitely because you’re awesome. 🙂
I actually saw Pacifica at the Natural Products Expo West show. They had a whole range of mineral makeup (face, eyes, lips). I was pretty sure I even saw a cream or gel liner. Here’s one of the sets at Target:
http://www.target.com/p/pacifica-wanderlust-mineral-color-set/-/A-14405278?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=|14405278&CPNG=Health+Beauty&kpid=14405278&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=14405278
I stopped in my tracks when I saw their stuff on the end cap. It’s good for me since we have a Target close by. 🙂
Jennifer says
Hair products too? Hmmmm…..
Iris says
I wash my hair daily but may try a dry shampoo when I’m short on time. This one sounds good. I’m afraid they’d smell chemically but I’m glad this one doesn’t.
Jessica says
You can always count on the Balm for cute packaging. 🙂
