The only real 3D thing I’ve ever watched was Captain EO, and I really liked it when I was 8. 🙂
The word “gimmicky” springs to mind when I look at LORAC’s new Multidimensional Beauty Collection.
It’s a spring release, but the gobs of glitter, shimmer and dark hues remind me more of fall and winter than spring. Products in the eight-piece release for the eyes, lips and face come in a variety of finishes, including shimmers, mattes and glitters, and some of them (like the shimmers and glitters) seem to fool around with light (hence the 3D).
Today I took five of them out for a spin.
Multiplex 3D Lashes, $22
Like sugar free YSL Faux Cils. I like how it thickens at the base, but I’d love a little better curl hold.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B
3D Liquid Lustre Shimmering Top Coat, $16
I had high hopes for this sheer multipurpose liquid and its golden glitter. Designed to be applied on top of eyeshadow (that’s how I tried it), worn alone or dabbed atop areas of the face for extra shimmer, it suffers from MAD fallout. And the packaging could stand being revamped. The base of the bottle is so narrow that it tips over easily. I knocked it over by accident, and the liquid gushed out! There went half the bottle before my very first use…
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: C+
3-in-1 Waterproof Eyeliner Pencils in Chocolate and Eggplant, $18 Each
Matte brown Chocolate and matte reddish purple Eggplant glide along lash and waterlines like prima ballerinas. I just wish LORAC had made the pencils thinner (or maybe harder) because the tips are easy to break.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B
Multiplex 3D Eye Shadow Palette, $38 (a Sephora Exclusive)
How cute is this packaging (I want the same print on a pair of shoes!)? Some of these six shimmery powder eyeshadows could be smoother (the peachy gold on the upper left feels very grainy), but I think LORAC did a pretty good job with the duochromes. The green in the upper right of the first row flashes from red to brown at certain angles, and the aforementioned peachy gold flashes to/from pink, which is rather cool.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B
Clockwise from the tube of mascara on the left: Multiplex 3D Lashes, Multiplex 3D Eye Shadow Palette, 3D Liquid Lustre Shimmering Top Coat, 3-in-1 Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Eggplant and 3-in-1 Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Chocolate
Multiplex 3D Eye Shadow Palette
Multiplex 3D Eye Shadow Palette

3D Liquid Lustre Shimmering Top Coat applicator

Multiplex 3D Eye Shadow Palette, 3-in-1 Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Chocolate, 3D Liquid Lustre Shimmering Top Coat and Multiplex 3D Lashes
NARS Blush in Sex Appeal on cheeks and NARS Lip Gloss in Super Orgasm on lips
I gotta hand it to LORAC for trying something different. These are almost holiday colors for spring, but I can’t help but miss my corals, violets and pinks. Although I’m not sold on the whole 3D thing, the shimmers and shifting colors make for some eye-catching effects.
Multidimensional Beauty comes at ya in 3D! to Sephora stores and online on February 3 and to Ulta stores on February 6!
A Great Excuse to Eat Fruit
I’ve been trying to increase my fiber intake lately, so I’ve been eating sliced apples…with Nutella. I know, I know. I’m probably canceling out most of the nutritional value in the apples, but it is what is is, which is DELICIOUS! 🙂 I’m starting to see all fruit in general as a “Nutella delivery system.”
I love it with Gala apples, but Granny Smiths are good too.
In other completely unrelated news, Tabs may be getting another assistant. This afternoon one of El Hub’s coworkers inherited a box of six stray kittens and asked if we wanted to adopt one (or two!). We’re still talking it over…and by we I mean Tabs and I.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
dani@callitbeauty says
your skin looks extra pretty/flawless in this photo 🙂
the eyeshadow palette is gorgeous! love the blue eyeshadow and the packaging is lovely.
Karen says
Thanks! I buffed the crap out of it with my kabuki brush and MAC Prep+Prime powder. I swear that stuff is a miracle worker for pictures… if MAC ever discontinues it I will cry some serious tears.
Rads says
Loved the lip gloss…and Tabs tweeted about that already 😀
Karen says
Oh, trust me, he’s still angry! He’s been ignoring me all morning.
Laura says
I saw Captain EO for the first time in November, they have put it in at Disneyland Paris. Total cheese fest but I loved it!
I like how you did your eye make up on the photos above Karen.
Karen says
Captain EO was the ride to go on back in the ’80s! I can’t believe they still have it running. They took the one out of the LA Disneyland a while back…
Jen W says
Those duochrome shades look great!
And NARS Superorgasm looks amazing on you. I must have it. 🙂
Karen says
You should totally go there with the gloss. Do you wear coral blushes often? It should pair great with coral and peach cheek colors.
gio says
The eyeshadow palette looks great! Love the shades and the packaging is very pretty too.
Karen says
Hi Gio,
You could easily rock these dramatic colors!
Kim says
Oh, I just see the name LORAC and immediately think mad fallout now! 🙂 It’s a shame because the colors are beautiful, if not very spring-like. I really love the packaging too.
The only 3D movie that I really thought was worth it was How to Train Your Dragon. It was fabulous but I should have been wearing waterproof mascara.
I’m not a kitteh expert by any means, but I’d highly recommend getting 2 from this litter!! That way, if Tabs decides he simply has no time or patience for a newcomer (as our #1 did), at least #2 will have someone to play with. I’ve also heard that you should get girls so Tabs won’t feel *as* threatened about his territory being invaded. I hope you do it – they’ll be very lucky to have you!
Karen says
I totally cried when I saw that movie too. Did you take the boys to watch it?
Kim says
I did! One of them sat on my lap and turned around with his sad little face about halfway through and asked “oh, Mommy… are you crying?”. I nodded yes and he gave me a big hug and said “it’s OK, I almost cried for Toothless too”. 🙂
How’s Tabs feeling about some potential sistahs in the house? You don’t really have to answer that. I think I know. 🙂
Karen says
What a cute story! I bet both your boys have the sweetest hearts. 🙂
As for the kittehs, I have mixed feelings. On one hand my inner cat lady says yes… but I can’t help but think that three cats = three times the cat poop.
Tabs is a very territorial kitty and I’m pretty sure having another cat (or cats) going to annoy him. Then again, I think he could use the stimulation. I think he really misses his adventures in the great outdoors, and having some siblings would at least give him something to do, you know?
Kim says
I don’t blame you at all. Three was a huge change for us (even over 2). The litter is definitely an issue, and so is the hair! Our oldest has never warmed up to either of the others but we’ve seen a big change in Harriet (#2) since Sophie (#3) has come along. They play together all the time now and are best buddies. It turned out that H really needed a friend to help her to be less timid, so we lucked out. It did take a few months for that to happen, though. Emma (#1) would never warm up to any newcomer. Sophie tries to play with her 100 times a day and gets hissed at every time! It definitely depends on the kitty, and you know Tabs better than anyone! 🙂
Tiffany says
I am intrigued by the palette! I love how you did a springy eye look even though the shades themselves don’t scream SPRING. I love the pop of color on the lower lash line!
Karen says
That’s the blue shadow in the bottom row! I was afraid it would be too gritty at first but it’s actually really smooth.
If you’re still snowed in today I think you should reward yourself with some spring blushes from Clarins, LOL!
Tiffany says
Spring blushes?! Two words I love! I must investigate!
Karen says
Here’s a link to ’em on Nordstrom:
Clarins Blush Prodige
See anything you like? I’ll have swatches/a review up soon.
Tiffany says
Ooh those look nice! It’s hard to tell from their pics but I look forward to your photos and swatches! I wish nordie’s would do free shipping; I would spend a lot more money there.
Paintthetownscarlet.wordpress.com says
Love the eyeshadows. The choice of colours work really well as a palette – the perfect choice for experimentation.
Karen says
Are you a LORAC fan?
Paintthetownscarlet.wordpress.com says
I’ve never tried Lorac before but will keep an eye out for this range here in the UK.
Jen in VA says
Love the palette but especially the glimmer top coat gloss to give a cool touch to any lipstick I put on.
Karen says
Hi Jen,
I checked the box and I’m afraid the Top Coat might not be approved for lip use. It states it’s for eyes and face.
Fieran says
If you want something less evil than Nutella, try apple slices with a wee bit of organic peanut butter 🙂 Not as tasty as Nutella, but it might help with the fiber intake.
I love that shade of blue that’s in the LORAC palette – shame LORAC is not available here. But in a way, it’s actually a good thing 🙂
Karen says
Oh good idea! Or maybe some almond butter!
How’s the weather out your way, Fieran? It’s still foggy and cold here… but what else is new for the SF Bay Area in January, LOL!
Fieran says
It’s snowing a bit – quite icy on the ground. Walking around is a bit of an art 🙂 I can’t wait for Spring. I keep chanting that to keep myself going. Take care and have a great weekend ahead, Karen!
Karen says
I’m doing the same thing. The sun has rarely been out in the last few days! I miss it.
You have a great weekend, too. What are your plans?
Amber says
KITTEN!!!
I think I have seen a very similar print on shoes. I’ll link them if I find them again. 😀
Karen says
Ooh! (Both to the kitten and the shoes.)
BTW, I’ve been looking for over-the-knee boots and none seem to compare to Maddy boots you told me about the other day. All the ones I’ve been seeing look very Jack Sparrow/Pirates of the Caribbean.
Amber says
Yep, it’s hard to find that sweet spot between pirate and prostitute.
(File under ‘phrases I never thought I’d write’)
Karen says
And there is a sweet spot!
The only way I seem to be making any progress in Boot Hunt 2011 is by find pairs I wouldn’t want to wear.
Too Jack Sparrow: Diba Will Oh
Too Mary Poppins: Not Too Coy Jagger
Too BeDazzled: Black Rooster Aurora
Amber says
Zappos has been trying to push me toward those Diba boots for weeks now! I don’t want them, Zappos!
I am frustrated by how hard it is to find boots made of actual leather for under $400. In my experience, that stretchy faux leather is too slouchy and slippery over tights, and too easily marred, plus the top of the shaft tends to be finished with a stitch that just looks cheap to me. Every day I curse myself for not buying those darn Via Spiga boots!
Fieran says
Have you considered Aldo? They have some nice boots – and are quite reasonable when they are on sale 🙂 Another place where you might find wearable (and comfy) shoes is Clarks. I bought a pair a few years back in the UK – was very comfortable.
Karen says
Yeah, you should have! I wish I knew I about ’em when they were on sale too. Shoot…
Anywho, I have a pair of faux leather below the knee boots and they’re just okay. They don’t keep me warm for squat!
Nina says
whc reminds me – im craving for fruit today …. shd get to whole foods and get some!
you know i <3 me some lorac …. i want that palette!
Karen says
Haaay Nina!
I have a love/hate relationship with Whole Paycheck. Everything in the produce sections looks SO GOOD, and I often buy with my eyes, LOL! I’ve more than once walked out of there with $10 bag of apples.
If you get this palette you could easily rock that bronze with your Siahi liner.
Nina says
i used siahi today with just a gray smokey eye. OMGOMG – so pretty!
im the same w/ whole foods … i once bough a 10 dollar container of sliced watermelon there – i was sick and they were the only one that had watermelon. silly me.
butbut – try buying their premade pizza dough. i get that and top it with some marinara, some cheese, artichokes and spinach and bake for around 15-20 mins – so good!
i have almost all of the lorac palettes — ill end up getting this too, im sure. 🙂
Karen says
Cute! I’ve been into gray liners lately… maybe I’ll try doing gray on the waterline with a little pop of Siahi along the top lash line.
Yeah, once I went into Whole Paycheck to buy a cup of soup and ended up leaving with a $20 lunch. It sure tasted good, though…
Where do you get the pizza dough? In the freezer section?
Oh, and speaking of LORAC Palettes, this one’s cute and on sale:
Pink Python
Principessa Grassa says
So pretty! The eyeshadow swatches are gorgeous, and they look so different on skin than they do in the pan.
Also … SQUEEEEEEE KITTENS!!!
Karen says
His co-worker’s husband has a pet store and somebody dropped the kitties off in the front in a box. 🙁
I’m waiting on pictures of the them… I have a funny feeling once I see them it’ll all be over. I have a soft spot for the animals that nobody wants.
Principessa Grassa says
Me too! Well, me and my whole freakin’ family … My sister has a one-eyed dog who was abused by a former owner, plus another dog from the pound and a cat who was raised in a lab. My mom has one dog from the pound and one that’s a puppy mill rescue. And I have a formerly feral cat that my mom found starving and drove out to me in CA from CO. Um … we’re suckers. 😛
Can’t wait to hear how many kittens you end up with!!
bluematilda says
so now i’m intrigued by the nars blush in sex appeal, everyone (and i mean all the blogs that i read) said how light it was, didn’t show up etc, but it looks so nice on you!! ps. apples dipped in a little bit of honey are AMAZING and frankly the only way i can eat them! :o)
Karen says
Hi Bluematilda,
Oh, that’s a good idea! I just finished off the last of my honey (gotta have my cup of morning tea!), but when I get a new jar I’ll be sure to try it.
What are your fave types of apples, btw? I love Gala and Honeycrisp.
About NARS Sex Appeal — it looks light in the pan, but it’s very beautiful and natural-looking on the skin. I have to do a few layers but I don’t mind!
Sarah says
OMG!!! Tabs would be such a great big bro’. And then wed get to see ridiculously adorable pics!!!!
Lindsay a.k.a. RVAfashionista says
Oooh those eyeshadows are pretty. Except I don’t need another eyeshadow… Well, I do need a good single “throw it on” neutral shade because both drugstore ones I had crumbled on me. I’m also trying to figure out what I want to spend my Sephora gift card on and I am seriously debating on trying out the Time Balm Concealer (I have read your review multiple times). I’ve been using Benefit Erase Paste and it’s OK but I feel like I’d use less of it if I actually had a GOOD concealer. If only Sephora also sold MAC products. 😉
Karen says
Time Balm is great! I’ve been using MAC Prolongwear lately, but Time Balm is still one of the best o’ all time.
How about stocking up on some NARS?
Lindsay a.k.a. RVAfashionista says
So I ended up with the Time Balm Concealer, the face cleansing clothes from Sephora’s new skincare line, and a makeup palette by Sephora with lots of shadows including neutral ones. Figured I’d get my $$$’s worth because the palette was “valued” at like $120.
joanna litte says
When do these come out?
Karen says
Hi Joanna,
I’m waiting to get confirmation on the exact date. I think it’s safe to assume they’ll be trickling out in the next month or so.
Karen says
FYI: The collection will be on shelves on February 3rd in Sephora stores and February 6th in Ulta stores!
Lucie says
Good luck on the kitty front! There’s always room for more fur babies. 😀 Go for it!
Vonvon says
OK, so the 3D is a multi-purpose thingy……
But I think the eyeshadow palette is the best from this collection.
Heidi says
Really interesting colors for the season! I always love the packaging on the LORAC palettes.
Back when I was still living with my Mother (which I am again now that she’s elderly and needs help with things), we added to our cat collection with the reverse scenario. We started by adopting two litter mates and then a few years later a stray moved in with us. The stray got along just fine with one of the cats, and couldn’t stand the other one. She was always picking on him. So, it was good to have the two brothers be close and love eachother. They were adorable cuddled up together at night when they slept. So, I definitely think that getting littermates is a good idea, it’s going to be an adjustment for Tabs either way.
Karen says
In my past discussions w/El Hub (and Tabs, LOL!) I’ve pushed for two kittens, but I go back and forth. On one hand I think it would be great to get a bonded pair so Tabs can’t be too much of a bully (he’s very territorial), but then again… three cats is a whole ton of cat poop.
steph b says
I used to have one of those electronic litter box. You’d barely notice the extra poop with one of those.
miléna says
Hi Karen !
I was about to ask you about their release because I have a big crush on this palette but I see you’ve already told what you know – gorgeous colors but actually I think I might be too influencial on the packaging side ! – anyway
Have a nice evening (no idea how late it is for you in the US) ! hope Tabs will get along all right with your potential new cat ! 😉
Karen says
Hi Milena,
Glad you like this palette! I love the packaging too — it’s so cute!
If you have any additional questions about it just let me know.
Emma says
Definitely try Tabs out with a friend. He may love the new addition to the family 🙂
Karen says
I’m thinking it would help keep him stimulated and on his toes! Maybe if we had another cat he’d be less cranky, LOL!
Joyce B says
Kittens! Post pictures. Tabs will learn to live with them. Eventually. How exciting.
Karen says
It’s still up in the air! We may or may not get them… Tabs has lived as an only kitty for so long that I’m afraid he’s gonna harass the crap out of a new cat, you know?
Laura says
The palette looks interesting I may have to check it out. :p The third shadow in the top row looks gray in the pan, but then very purple in your swatch – is that duochrome I’m seeing? Also, in reference to your boot search, you might want to check out:
http://www.anneklein.com/Ari/90447604,default,pd.html (AK Anne Klein Ari – there’s better pics on zappos but these are cheaper)
http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?searchCID=4016&vid=1&pid=819907&scid=819907002 (Enzo Angiolini Randies)
Funnily enough I was just on the hunt for black suede boots too. I ended up buying both so I could try them on and decide, and I’m still unsure! Hope this helps!
joanna litte says
The eye palette is available at sephora right now 🙂
Rachel says
Speaking of Captain EO, they brought it BACK to Disneyland in LA. We were just there and it’s now called “Captain EO-Tribute”. I LOVED it back in the day, but seriously…it’s SO bad. Anywho, it’s a serious must-see if you go back…if only for the laughs.
Brooke says
your skin looks flawless here! What foundation do you use?
Megan says
Happy to see this. LORAC is one of my top 5 favorite brands. In case you haven’t tried their baked shadows, they are to DIE for. The pigmentation easily beats MAC and Urban Decay. The shadow palette is so pretty, and I actually have the Multiplex gloss in 3D, which I noticed isn’t part of this collection, but is so pretty and gives a nice holographic “3D” effect. 🙂
Amee says
i am not very much impressed with other stuff but the 3D Liquid Lustre Shimmering Top Coat is something diff innovation… good one
