Even icons, like Dior’s Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mscara, like to brush up on their skills from time to time, with “brush” being the key word here.
What’s the biggest difference between the new Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara and the original Iconic Mascara first released in 2008? Two words: the brush.
The 2008 incarnation (which is still available) features a plasticky brush with short, stubby nubs, while its upstart offspring, codename Overcurl, has more traditional mascara bristles.
Overcurl’s new curve also helps it reach my lashes better at the roots, for thicker lashes around the base.
According to Dior, Overcurl, which is new for spring, delivers “spectacular volume and curl.” I’ve been putting that claim to the test for about two weeks now, and ya know, the darned thing does hold a curl really well (great for that doe-eyed effect). Plus, it doesn’t smudge, smear or flake, and it’s been a breeze to remove.
I like it, although maybe not as much as, say, the new Chanel Le Volume de Chanel Mascara (which I’m still super obsessed with).
Because Overcurl doesn’t thicken or lengthen as much from root to tip, it’s good for a completely different, less dramatic kind of lash look than I get with Le Volume.
To put it another way, if Chanel Le Volume was a big night on the town, Iconic Overcurl would be a first date, or Saturday brunch with friends. It’s flirty, fun and fresh-faced. All good things. 🙂
PRICE: I can’t seem to find the official price, but I’m guessing around $28, which is the price of the regular Diorshow Iconic Mascara.
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to Dior counters and dior.com

I have the hardest time finding mascara!!! Thanks for the review!!! Looks great!!!
Karen says
Hi Rachael,
You’re welcome! Have you worn any of Dior’s mascaras before?
Esther says
ahh this looks so nice! I’ve been looking for a nice curling mascara, but I’ll have to stick with my great lash curved for now because one of my new year’s resolutions was project pan with my mascara collection. definitely gonna keep my eye on this one though, for later on 🙂
Karen says
Hi Esther,
I love that you have a mascara collection. 🙂 Which ones are your faves?
Esther says
I adore Tarte Lights Camera Lashes, Tarina Tarantino Fleur de Lash, and Lancome Hypnose Star. they all pack a nice punch without having to layer with anything else!

Oooh! I love mascara wands that have a curve to them! I find they work really well!
I’m excited to try this now!
Karen says
Hi Tracy,
Me too. They make it really easy to get lots of thickness at the roots. Do you have any curved brush faves?

I’m sure this is a pretty neat product. I’m definitely going to check it out.

I tried the Diorshow Iconic but didn’t like it as much as my benefit they’re real! I like benefit even better than the Chanel Inimitable I use to use.
Karen says
I’ve used They’re Real and like it ok. I know a lot of women love it, though.

I’ve been considering picking up a Diorshow mascara for a while now but haven’t taken the plunge. Maybe it’s time!

Hi. I’ve had trouble “curling” mascaras. Did you have to curl your lashes first or did the mascara curl them for you?
Jess says
Thanks for your review, Karen.
I’m Asian, and have the typical firm, poker straight lashes that easily droops down when wearing the wrong mascara. So, when it comes to Western brand mascaras, I always have to go for the waterproof version in order to keep the curl of my lashes.
I have been looking at this mascara at the counter today, and liked the wand a lot (since it is very similar to one of my favorite Japanese mascaras), but didn’t buy it, as I was very afraid this non-waterproof version will droop down my lashes (as always with non-wp mascaras).
What do you think, Karen? Do you think this mascara could work on us Asian girls with poker straight lashes and hooded eyelids, even though it is a non-waterproof formulation?

Thank you for this review and especially for the comparison with the new Chanel mascara, that was just what I looking for!
I’m a student and I recently indulged myself in the Chanel’s Spring line’s highlighter powder, and that’s when I received a sample of that new Chanel mascara, and I’ve been loving it so much. And now I’ve read interesting reviews about this Dior one, and I was really confused about their differences. This one cleared it up for me, and I’m still going for the Chanel one since that one impressed me more than any mascara has before!
