Greetings, sweet thing, and happy Tuesday to ya. 🙂 Speaking of sweet things, have your eyes feasted upon the Deborah Lippmann spring collection yet? If not, get this: it has sprinkles!
The tiny two-piece release has been out for a while now (available at Nordstrom stores and also online), featuring whisper-light colors for those times when you’re in the mood for something sweet, but yet more reserved than jelly beans.
Glitter in the Air ($18) caught my attention. It’s a sheer light blue with flecks of pink and blue glitter swimming around in it. Before I tried it on, I expected more of a glitter-ific punch from it — something like last fall’s Bad Romance or Across the Universe, but it’s lower key than either of those shades.
As a matter of fact, I’m wearing five (!) coats of it in this swatch. First question: what’s the point? When I want glitter on my nails, I usually want a lot, or none at all. I think it’s still pretty, but I haven’t quite figured out when I’d wear this shade out.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: C
Naked ($16), a creamy nude, doesn’t look as flashy in its bottle as Glitter in the Air does, but I think it’s adorable on my nails, and likely more practical, too. As a neutral, it should go well with most outfits, and because it’s so light, chips probably won’t be too obvious.
I was hoping for two-coat coverage, but it required three coats to reach opaque color in the swatch above.

What do you think of these? Are they too subtle for spring?

Glitter in the air looks gorgeous, but FIVE COATS?
Holy mama! :O
Natalia says
I still think Glitter in the Air looks perfect in this shot! It’s beautiful!

Glitter in the Air = LOVE <3
but…5 coats…NO WAY!

I actually like the moderate looking glitter in Glitter in the Air. It almost looks like it was intentionally placed there, if you know what I mean?
Melissa says
My little girl loves glitter nailpolish but she barely sits still for 2 coats let alone 5. I usually find a color similar to the base in the polish that gives color in one coat, then one coat of glitter polish ie: purple base + purple glitter “polish” = max effect and everybody is happy 🙂

I have dupes for Naked, so it doesn’t really catch my eye, but omg I would love to layer Glitter In The Air over a black! Or a light blue…or maybe even a bright shimmery blue. yumm xD
Tiffany says
Aww that’s too bad – glitter in the air looks awesome in the bottle!
Styrch says
Man, I was beginning to rethink my stance on Glitter in the Air but if you say that is what you got after 5 coats, I remain unconvinced that this is a polish worth purchasing.
Heidi says
I have very low patience for anything requiring more than two coats. It sure is pretty, though….
Nina says
i like the 2nd color more than i like the glitter! 🙂

I actually like how sparse the glitter is on the nail-but I don’t polish my nails, so… :D…
Tekoa says
Layer it over OPI I Vant to Be Alone Star and it’ll look identical to the bottle colour. Anyone else think the bottle looks like it contains bubblegum icecream?
Tiffany H. says
I bet Glitter in the Air would be gorgeous layered over a baby blue like Chanel Riva. Naked looks like your perfect nude for your skintone Karen. Very elongating to your fingers!

Glitter in the air looks beautiful! But 5 coats?! How disappointing!
courtney says
the glitter looks really pretty if you put a light pastel pink or blue underneath

Five coats? Oh dear…

Glitter in the air looks so pretty in the bottle. I would want it as art or something. but I wouldn’t pay that much for a bottle of nail polish just to stare at it!
Saddy says
I love the look of glitter nail polishes, but they are always tough to remove with the regular acetone liquid. Any other suggestions?
Jessi (Lacquered, Painted, Polished) says
Are you using 100% pure acetone? It can be a bit harsh on the skin, but it works a lot better than regular removers. Also, you should Google foil method nail polish removal. It is a method tons of glitter nail polish addicts swear by.
Saddy says
Hey thanks! The foil method was enlightening. I can’t wait to try it out! And no, I’ve never tried 100% acetone.
Morgan says
I got crazy excited when I saw the photo of it in the bottle, and even on your nails, but holy cripes, FIVE COATS?! That’s kinda ridiculous!
Fefe says
5 coats ruined it for me. I’ll find something different. Thanks for the review 😀

Glitter in the Air just doesn’t satisfy my need for sparkles! It’s a shame too, because it looks so gorgeous in the bottle.
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
I’ve noticed a trend of Lippmann’s glitter polishes have tiny amounts of glitter in them, making them look kind of haphazard on nails. If I’m going to go for glitter and not a creamy or shimmery finish, I want to go all out! I don’t get the appeal of four random specks of sparkle…
Naked looks very pretty on you, but $16 for a polish that requires three coats seems excessive. I think I’ll refrain from buying either of these.

Er, I meant “having.” It’s been a long day. Tigger started having seizures this weekend 🙁 :(. The vet came by on Monday and prescribed him some medicine that should be kicking in soon. His bloodwork was good, though; hopefully this means he just has a case of epilepsy. It’s still been hard on me, especially considering Aisha passed away not even a month ago :/.
It’s kind of funny, though — he’s not totally used to his meds yet, so he’s been a little stoner kitty for the past day and a half. The vet said it would take a few days for him to get used to it being in his system (and for it to take effect). His behavior has been amusing, lol. He has a constant case of the munchies, and he’s really energetic. Right after vacuuming the carpet, you can see his paw prints, and they were EVERYWHERE today. He’s been running all over the place and meowing up a storm!
In other kitty news, Gizmo is doing so much better! We’ve started letting her out to roam the house and she has discovered the joy of stairs. She’s letting us pet her a lot more and has been much more affectionate. 🙂

Hi Karen!
Thanks for doing swatches…. Oh I wanted to love Glitter in the Air! Do you have Chanel’s Riva? If you do how do you think Glitter in the Air will look on top of Riva? 🙂
JamieRebecca says
ugh 5 coats to get a few fleck of glitter?!?! i love the way it looks, but 5 coats?!?!?!?!? i can’t get passed that!
sammy says
I bought glitter in the air over the weekend and am a little disappointed. it looks nothing like in the bottle. I layered over a purple and it didn’t look too hot plus i smudged it. I ended up wearing it alone and I keep trying to fall in love with it.
Mandy says
Glitter in the Air actually looks so pretty on your nails, so subtle and the pieces of glitter are very cute. I think the biggest turn off is that it took FIVE coats! I can barely stand waiting for two coats to dry! Sad day. 🙁
Lorna says
i just got glitter in the air and i like it but not as much as i thought it would. i agree that the application process can be tricky but i found a way to apply it so that it doesn’t take that many coats. instead of brushing it across your nail, you have to literally drip the polish from the brush onto your nail and then quickly spread it even. i have never applied any other polish this way but it worked for me. i only needed two coats.
MARTINE says
Hi Karen. Did you use any other polishes under glitter in the air?
