When I went to get my bangs trimmed a couple weeks ago my stylist gave me a sample of Orofluido Beauty Elixer (regularly $32 for a 3.38-oz. bottle) and raved on and on about how it was to going to change my life, starting with my hair.
I’d never heard of Orofluido before, but it’s a small indie haircare line a little more popular in Europe than here in the States. They only list two products on their website — the Beauty Elixer that my stylist gave me, and something new called Shine Spray.
The company claims their mix of argan, linseed and Egyptian Cyperus oils (not cypress like the tree) leave hair “silky and disciplined.”
Music to my ears, ma! 🙂
My stylist suggested putting a few drops on damp hair before blow drying (or flat ironing) to add volume and shine.
The product’s much, much thicker than I expected. I put a few drops in my palms, rub them together and then work the oil through my wavy, highlighted hair.
To say I’m impressed would be an understatement. HOLY WOW! This stuff sure pumps up the volume. Typically when I take a blow dryer and flat iron to my head the hair at my crown lies flat, but after using Orofuido my hair has plenty of extra lift and movement. I mean, I’m not used to hair with this much volume. It’s so big that it might even exert its own gravitational pull, for reals!
I did this style last week using a blowdryer, a flat iron and Orofluido Beauty Elixer
The product also tames stray hairs, adds loads of shine, softens and imparts a wonderful warm amber and vanilla scent. I can hardly believe that one product can do so many different things. It’s just awesome.
If you’d to give it a try and can’t find it at your salon, you can also order it online, or call the company’s customer service line for help tracking it down, at 1-800-598-2730.
I found it carried by a company called brightonbeautysupply.com for $32 for a 3.38-oz. bottle. Each order also includes three samples, too, which is a nice touch.
If you’re trying to stay away from silicones, brace yourself, but it does contain cyclopentasiloxane, cyclotetrasiloxane and dimethiconol… and they happen to be the top three ingredients on the list. 🙁
I’m hoping Beauty Elixer makes its way into larger beauty chains soon because I think it’s downright amazing.
PRICE: about $32 for a 3.38-oz. bottle

Bummer about the silicones, but it sounds amazing and sure did an awesome job on your hair. It’s so hard to find products that soften and add volume. I need something that does both, too, and it seems like everything I’ve tried does one or the other.
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
It is hard to find stuff that adds body without that crunchy feeling (mousse, anyone?) What products do you usually use? If this doesn’t work for you, maybe there’s some sort of light, touchable gel that might work.
Karen says
“My stylist suggested putting a few drops on damp hair before blow drying (or flat ironing) to add volume and shine.”
Do you mix the few drops with some water or something to distribute the product even ?
Karen says
Hi Karen,
I rub it between my palms and then distribute it throughout my hair.
Paris B says
I’ve never come across this, but MorocconOil which I use has silicones right up there in the top 3 too. Still, it works a treat and I’m not reacting to it. I love that last look you did 🙂
Karen says
Hi Paris B,
Glad to hear you found something that works for you. It’s not always easy to find holy grails in the hair department.
Ashley says
Your hair looks amazing!
I love how it’s called an elixer and not serum. It sounds amazing in it’s name 😀
Karen says
Hi Ashley,
Thanks. I hope you can give it a try!
Andrea says
The salon I work at carries Orofluido! For now I also have just a sample size but really like it!
The stylists at my salon also recommend it as a body oil and a bath oil, which is really cool 🙂 I am always up for multi-use beauty products! I’m glad you’re enjoying it Karen, your hair looks great!
Karen says
Hi Andrea,
I didn’t know it could be used as a bath/body oil. I’ll give it a try on my cuticles. 🙂
BTW, if you have any other indie salon goodies that you like please let me know. I’m always looking for the next big thing!
Andrea says
Well, it’s not really indie, but we also have the Pureology line of haircare products. I use the Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner which are really good! They also make other shampoos and conditioners for different hair types, like there’s a “Smooth” line.
Have you tried Pureology before? I know you recently had a post about that other haircare line whose packaging looked kind of like a rip-off of Pureology.. 😛 (I don’t know which line came first, but I always get a little riled up when I see brands which seem to blatantly rip off the style/design of another brand).
Karen B says
Wow, your hair looks great. This would definitely be a good product for us as we try to get crazy volume styles for the musical…
Karen says
Hi Karen B.,
What show are you doing?
meibaola says
Thank you Karen! I have a sample too and have been wondering for months what to do with it, because I was afraid it would make my hair heavy. Now I’ll definitely give it a try!
Karen says
Hi Meibaola,
Let me know what you think of it. 🙂
Advah says
Shame about the silicone too, but Karen I LOVE your hair!!
Karen says
Hi Advah,
Thanks, babe!
Are you trying to stay away from hair silicones?
Advah says
Yep – trying to use shampoos as natural as possible, which means they’re not strong enough to get dissolve silicones (although I use some Aveda styling stuff that has silicones in it, but I’m trying to keep that to a minimum).
Your amazing haircut (love. the. fringe.) inspired me – I called my hairdresser for a cut because I’m in serious need of that and a pick me up, but she’s booked until late December! If only your stylist could come all the way here.. 🙁
Karen says
Or if only you could come here! Then we could get coffee after you get your hair cut and I get a bang trim. 🙂
Dunno if you want/need it, but here’s the pic I gave my hairstylist before she gave me this cut:
What shampoos are you using right now? It’s been a while since I’ve done a strict non-silicone hair routine, but I always like to keep a few on my shelf.
Advah says
Oh boy, that’d be amazing, sigh..
Thanks for the pics, I’ll probably use them! I’m torn between getting the same cut as last time but with real side swept bangs, or keeping my hair longer with thick curly bangs. Decisions decisions. 😀
I’ve been using Burt’s Bees for a couple of years now (I usually can’t stick to the same shampoo for more than half a bottle) – the green tea+fennel and the macademia nut ranges, as I find them more moisturising than their other products. I really need a change though, my hair’s been terrible and crazy dry lately. Do you have anything silicone-free and reasonably natural you’d recommend?
Karen says
The only thing with side-swept bangs is that you have to be good about getting them trimmed, otherwise they get REALLY ANNOYING. I go in about every four weeks because my hair grows fast. Otherwise it ends up all over the place.
I guess great minds think alike, because I was actually going to recommend the Burt’s Bees Green Tea Shampoo/Conditioner (I have it in my shower right now). It’s the best natural/silicone-free option I’ve found so far! If I run into anything new I’ll let you know!
Advah says
Odd won’t let me comment… (unless you have 5 comments popping up at once!)
Karen says
Hi Advah,
Thanks for letting me know. Sometimes the spam filter goes NUTS! We should be back in business now. Let me know if this issue pops up again.
Wendy says
I’ve tried it and it is wonderful, but I like Agadir Argan Oil much much better. It’s about the same price, and in my opinion has an edge on this product. I use them both, only to finish this product, but I’ll be sticking to the Agadir Argan Oil. If you like this, you should try the Agadir – you’ll be blown away!
Karen says
Hi Wendy,
That sounds like an interesting product. Where did you find it?
Wendy says
Hi Karen,
I get it at my Salon, but Sleekhair.com has it too.
Bella says
Your looks amazing!
I want to try this asap!
Karen says
Hi Bella,
Thank ya kindly. Do you blowdry/flat iron your hair often?
Marian says
This sounds exactly like Moroccan Oil except for the fragrance. Moroccan oil smells like a musk with a bit of vanilla.
Karen says
Hi Marian,
I haven’t tried Moroccan Oil, but I’ve heard great things.
gio says
I’ve never heard about this brand but I want to try the elixer now. It sounds wonderful and your hair look amazing!
Karen says
Hi Gio,
I hope you can find it in your country!
Antonia says
Your hair looks great, but I always thought it has a nice volume, though. I’m going to get myself one as soon as I see it somewhere!
Karen says
Hi Antonia,
When I wear it straight it’s usually pretty flat in the root area. This made a noticeable difference, I think. 🙂
I hope you can get a sample of this soon!
Kajal Couture says
This sounds like it could be the next Moroccan Oil! I just wish it were more easily accessible.
Karen says
Hi Kajal Couture,
I think the issue is because it’s still new here. Maybe in a few months you’ll be able to find it in more places.
Kim says
Very nice! Hair oils are definitely making a comeback and are awesome for you gals with thicker hair. If I put any oil in mine (even just the ends), it makes my poor locks look limp. 🙁
Karen says
Hi Kim,
Bummer. 🙁 Have you tried any of the “lighter” ones? I know Shu Uemura Art of Hair’s is pretty light.
Kim says
No, I haven’t, but maybe I should – ’tis the season (for dry hair). 🙂
Oh, I meant to tell you that I started reading Hush, Hush. Have you read the Maze Runner series? I got that one too and will be moving on to it next. You had also recommended another book that you liked, but I can’t remember what it was. Do you remember? This time I’ll write it down!
Karen says
I haven’t read the Maze Runner series. Do you like it?
Hmm, I can’t remember the book, but it might’ve been Vanished by Meg Cabot. That’s the last one I read.
Kim says
I’ll let you know if I think they’re good; they’re next in line after Hush, Hush and Crescendo. 🙂
I put Vanished on my list, but I thought the author was a man and you had liked one of his other books as well (I keep thinking it has to do with the west?). Darn my tiny brain! 🙂
Karen says
OOOH, maybe you’re thinking of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. It’s GREAT!
Kim says
BINGO! Thank you! It’s now on my list! 🙂
Karen says
You’re welcome. It’s young adult fiction, so it’s kind of a fast read, but it’s kinda… deep. I liked it a lot.
Kim says
I’m totally down with the young adult fiction. I’ve had pretty good luck finding fun, fast paced and pretty well written stuff. I think it’s a change from when we were young, and hope it’s getting a lot more teens into reading. 🙂
Nina says
your hair looks awesome. this is an interesting product. 🙂
Karen says
Thanks, Nina! 🙂
Nina says
i currently use the argan oil stick but … im growing my hair a bit longer (shoulder length) so i definitely need a boost of some sort. 🙂
Tuhina says
Would this weigh down thin/fine hair?
Karen says
Hi Tuhina,
I tried looking around for reviews done by girls with fine hair and found one on amazon.com. It sounds like she was more concerned about frizz, but doesn’t have any issues with it weighing her hair down.
Kim (a few comments above) says she’s used hair oils before and they weigh her hair down. You might want to ask her if what she likes for fine/thin hair!
Katrina says
This is intriguing…though volume is not something I need! It does sound a lot like moroccan oil, which I really really love
Karen says
Everyone seems to LOOOVE that stuff! I really need to get my hands on some soon. 😀
Stef says
Well, your hair looks flippin’ fab, so I’d say this stuff works really well!
Do you still like your bangs? Or are you pushing them off your face already? 🙂
Karen says
I still like them. I do notice a difference in length already though… it’s only been two weeks!
Vonvon says
Sounds like an interesting product!
Ruchita says
Your hair looks great, Karen! Love the bangs. 🙂
I am always on the lookout for products that will add volume to my fine hair. I will ask my stylist about this the next time I go in for a haircut.
Thanks for getting the word out there on this product!
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
You’re welcome! Let me know what your stylist suggests when you go see her. I don’t have fine hair, but so many ladies here do, so it would be nice to build up a arsenal of tried and true products.
BTW, if you like drugstore stuff, my friend Marisol uses this for her fine hair and loves it:
Got2B Fat-Tastic Mousse: Big Volume, Small Price
Glosslizard says
I’m going to try this stuff! The scent alone sounds fabulous, and I’m always up for lift and shine!
Eva says
Karen, your hair looks amazing!
I am usually not a fan of silicones and use shampoo and body creams that do not contain silicones but when it comes to hair styling you NEED them! It´s the only thing that offers some heat protection. :o)
I would probably use a good clarifying shampoo once a week to get rid of possible built-up from the `cones but unless you want to let your hair dry on its own (scary thought for me!!) go with the `cones..
Liz says
I’m going to have to look for this stuff, because it sounds like it could be even better than Moroccanoil, and that rocks!
Christy says
My stylist puts in my hair when she starts to blow dry. It really helps to prevent damaging my ends more. I’m hoping to get a bottle next time I go in since I’m just about done some of my other hair products.
Janice says
I just ordered this stuff, based on this great review. I have straight, fine hair. I will report back with results once I get to test it out. Thanks for the info!
jen @ onecurlyfry says
I love this stuff!! It seriously works wonders!
too glam for words says
There are some indie salons that carry that Orofluido in lots of different cities, call ahead if you don’t wanna traipse across town looking for it. Also, I think the reason it works better is because unlike Moroccan oil, more of the silicones stay on the hair rather than evaporating (specifically cyclotretraxiloxane) which usually aids in extra shine and frizz control. I found applying it mostly to my ends and midlength definitely did make it look like I had more volume on top, but that’s most likely just because there was less product on the top. I too have very thick hair so I would venture to say that girls with fine hair would have trouble figuring out the right amount to use w/out overdoing it.
Karen, in response to your question about anyone knowing about any great new brands, I recently tried a sample of a mask from a brand called J Beverly Hills, which worked really well on my thick damaged hair. I double checked the ingredients list and it looks like there’s a high concentration of Behentrimonium Methosulfate, which is derived from coconut oil (lest anyone think it’s sulfates and it’s drying to the hair, COMPLETELY the opposite). Another famous mask that has lots of the behentrimonium is the Frederic Fekkai technician masque, so if you liked that one the J Beverly Hills might be worth a try.

My hair is very fine and was damaged badly in a hair mishap. I have been using this product for a week and it has completely restored my hair. I am somewhat jaded when it comes to beauty products because most of them never live up to their hype but this one has exceeded my expectations. I quit wearing perfume and everywhere I go people tell me how great I smell. I used orofluido on my skin right out of the shower and it is doing for my skin what it’s done for my hair.
