AT LAST! After months dutifully removing all manner of eye makeup, my beloved bottle of Bliss Lid + Lash Wash finally gave up the ghost.
As much as I love the stuff (I’m sure it went to makeup and beauty heaven), its departure makes room to try something new.
Ideally, I’d like a remover that works just well as Lid + Lash but comes in a sassier bottle… What can I say? I like it when the stuff on my sink looks cute. 🙂
I was wandering around Sephora the other day when a pink, red and white label caught my eye. It was attached to a bottle of Benefit’s Gee… That Was Quick!
What do ya think of the presentation? Adorable, right? Leave it to Benefit to make something practical look cute.
A bottle of Gee costs $21, $7 more than Bliss Lid + Lash, but on an ounce/ounce basis, it’s actually pretty cheap ($2.60/oz for Gee versus $3.80/oz for Lid + Lash). Score!
Gee isn’t new; it’s been part of Benefit’s permanent line for a while, but this was my first experience with it. The company says it vanquishes face AND eye makeup without needing to be rinsed, and that it’s not supposed to be drying or leave an oily residue after the fact. All good things.
Well, turns out Gee is more than just a pretty face. 🙂
First, for the easy stuff — I put it to the test against a barrage of makeup. A single square pad soaked in Gee sufficiently removed eyeshadow bases, pencil liners, eyeshadows (powders and creams) and non-waterproof mascaras with ease.
I didn’t even have to scrub!
It also removed foundations, face primers and powders without breaking a sweat.
Things got more interesting when I introduced it to long wear makeup…
It performed admirably against liquid and gel liners, working well but requiring a second soaked pad for each eye to thoroughly remove LORAC Front of The Line Pro liner and MAC Fluidline.
As for waterproof mascara, Gee needed help. It was brought to its knees by Stila Lash Visor waterproof mascara (couldn’t remove squat).
As a matter of fact, if it weren’t for Gee’s relaxing chamomile and rose scent or the way it makes my skin feel soft and hydrated after I use it, I might have been more concerned. 🙂
Ultimately, I like Gee, but I wish it tackled waterproof and long-wearing eye makeup better. Of course, if you don’t use ’em, Gee’s a star. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B
You might like Benefit Gee, That Was Quick! if…
- You don’t wear long-wearing eye makeup
- You try and find you like the scent (I do!)
- You want something you don’t have to rinse
- You’re comfortable paying $21 (remember what it works out to per ounce)
From Gee to Glee!
Ascots rule!
Fellow Gleeks, I hate to say it, but I’m *this close* to abandoning the show. 🙁
I liked parts of last night’s episode — LOVED that Mercedes and Kurt finally got to shine in solos and liked the overall message of acceptance — but what happened to last season’s witty repartee? The Chronic Lady, the Acafellas or Terri’s crazy sister??
Did you love last night’s episode, and am I the only one who feels like the show’s been falling flat?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Haha Karen, I am loving the post title! Benefit is stacking up my wish list at the moment by the way, everything they makes is functional AND cute!! Hope you are having a good Wednesday! 🙂

I’m very intrigued by that eye makeup remover–and the bottle is adorable!
I haven’t loved this latest batch of Glee episodes as much as the first half of the season, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt seeing as they had to rush to make them after the back nine got picked up. I’ll never abandon it, but I do hope they get back that witty banter and the kookiness that made the first half of the season so endearing! Last night’s was just uber depressing 🙁
Debbie says
I agree about last night’s Glee episode – I can’t pinpoint why, but the newer episodes just seem off! I’ll probably stick with it through the end of the season, but if it doesn’t improve I think I’ll pass on next season
annie says
ohh my gosh i loved glee last night! i agree the first two episodes were not good at all. They do need to up the plotline, like i mean how obvious is it that jessie is playing rachel? way too obvious and they need to include him in it more. But, glee is my show ! and i wont be leaving it any time soon
Rebecca says
I agree about Glee – it’s just not the same. With the exception of Sue Sylvester’s “Vogue” video, this season has been flat and unfunny and the musical numbers have been forced and awkward. Although I do enjoy the exchanges between the dumb blonde Cheerio and Santana – “Did you know dolphins are just gay sharks?”

Re: Glee. I actually really liked last nights eppy
1) secondary characters got some screen time (I loved that we didn’t hear anything from Rachel, girl can sing but I’m tired of the nattering she normally does).
2) Tackled some of the really common aspects of teen life
I actually considered quitting the show at the season premiere which I found choppy and frustrating with all the characters acting like asses. I do agree that the show hasn’t been thus far as good as last season. I hope we hear more from Brittany – every line out of her mouth is gold.
Nina says
It was meh. I loved Kurt and Mercedes’s solo. Some of Sue’s lines were funny. However, not even Kristin Chenoweth was enough to make this episode shine … I hope they step it up!
I am super interested in that makeup remover. Im currently still using Clinique’s Take the Day Off but am open to a change. I love the bottle as well! 🙂

i fell asleep watching the show last night ..and skipped the last few episodes .
i don’t even try to remember what time it comes on .
after every damn sentence of dialogue, a song appears .
just like a run o’ the mill musical .
it drives me insane !
the second season is mediocre at best . so disappointing ! safe for me to say i’m over the show .
now i’ve got a paper to write ..boo .
benefit’s product names never fail to amuse me . i just love this brand ! but i am skipping this one..
Rebecca says
Ugh, I really did *not* like Gee! That was Quick when I tried it… maybe it’s because mascara is pretty much the only makeup I usually wear (besides some eyeliner), but this just didn’t get the job done. Which is a shame, because the packaging is so adorable!

oh no…Gee has paraben in it!=(
marisa says
yes! glee was so sappy and cheesy and slow last night! i feel like they have been needlessly inserting musical numbers at the cost of all the awesome biting dialogue that was there before…..and the musical numbers keep happening like in the middle of real life, which is annoying. it used to only happen in glee practices or performances. it’s getting to be a bit much. i understand that fans love the music and buy the music, but they are kinda oversaturating it this past three eps with music. 🙁

Benefit’s products are just SO cutely packaged to me. The counter just calls my name. *Sigh.* LOL.
Christin says
Just wondering how it stacks up to Lancome’s Bi-Facil. Lancome is oilier, but I haven’t found a make up remover that could remove as well as Lancome’s.
marisa says
i LOVE mufe’s sens’eyes. removes EVERYTHING super easily, it’s very gentle on my sensitive skin, and leaves ZERO residue behind, it is not oily at all.
Connie says
Thanks for the review! I use waterproof mascara almost on a daily basis so I guess this one’s not for me *sighs* love the cute packaging though
Glee just ended for us. New season won’t be out for awhile

Glee was kinda ‘meh’ last night, but I think I like the characters too much to give up on it just yet. Gossip Girl, on the other hand…
I haven’t really tried any Benefit products that aren’t makeup. They had this cute pink mask that came out a while ago, but I think it got DC’s. It looked cute 🙁
Camille says
I know what you’re saying about Glee, but I’m not ready to abandon it yet… But the Acafellas episode was my favorite, and I wish they would head in that direction, instead of the silly one-liners. Oh well.
I love Benefit, but I’ve never tried this… going to have to pick some up next time I’m at Ulta!

I’m still trying to finish up my Bliss Lid + Lash Wash… it’s been a year. I think it’s about to expire but I’m only half way through with it!
Shelby says
Yeah, I too was pretty disappointed with Glee last night. It just didn’t even really grab my interest… 🙁
Bree says
I loved Glee last night (actually I watched it this AM but whatevs). I didn’t dig most of the songs included but I still loved it. I wished is could be absolute genius every single time out, but A few less than stellar episodes now and then won’t detour me from the road to regionals!
Ditte K. says
This ep of Glee did, but I did like the last ep with the Madonna songs. I’m sure it was just a cheap trick to keep us watching 🙂
mill says
i’ll never abandon glee, but i can understand why you would (i enjoy it more than the average person im pretty sure.) what about the madonna ep? IMO that enough to fuel your glee fire for months. gee (hahahaha) im still reeling from that ep… this week was pretty sudued in comparision. as for the makeup remover, benefit’s total awesomeness strikes again.
teresa says
you’re not the only one karen, I’ve been feeling TRES disappointed at Glee cos I definitely couldn’t stop watching it last season.. and this season was just… MEH! I wasn’t even that impressed with the madonna episode… *TEAR*. Hopefully Glee will get some of it’s lucky JuJu back! *crosses fingers*

This Gee sounds perfect~ I hardly ever wear mascara of any kind (mainly because I hate removing it, lol) so that wouldn’t be a problem. I’ve been looking for a new makeup remover since the ones I bought in Korea are running out (sadface, they work v. well but I don’t think you can find Skin Food or Innisfree here?), perhaps I’ll give this one a go.
I also haven’t really been feeling Glee so much lately. I LOVED the Madonna episode, and the one before that was ok, but for this one I ended up mostly just having it on in the background while I did other stuff. I did like that Rachel was a background character for once, and I hope this trend of spotlighting the rest of the Glee kids continues, if only because I don’t really care about Rachel. I wish they’d introduce a new character to be a viable romantic option for Kurt so he can give Finn a rest.

It’s a shame it doesn’t remove waterproof and long-wearing makeup well. The bottle is cute and I love the name!

That makeup remover sounds great, I’m still using cold cream! Glee was pretty good, I agree it’s not the best but I’m sure better will come.
Sophie says
I tried this too, I love the bottle (I always end up buying cosmetics because I love the look of it.. sigh), but it didn’t work very well for my mascara either. I use a very cheap one by Neutrogena now which works great 😀
Toni says
I haven’t watched Glee, but I do like the music I’ve heard from the show. Thanks for the review on the Benefit makeup remover. I might be tempted to try it, but fragrances give me headaches, so I would probably have to skip this one. I might take a whiff of it when I go to Sephora though to see if it’s something I could tolerate.
choklityum says
I really like the eye makeup remover from Mary Kay. Works great on all my eye makeup – including my waterproof mascara. It’s oil-free, which is a major bonus for me as I already have oily skin. It’s affordable too.
HC says
It’s not as interesting as before but I think the show will pick up real quick.

I totally agree about Glee I hate to say it but it is getting a little bit old. Anyway thanks for the review! Have you tried Estee Lauders eye makeup remover I abslutely love it! Amays eye makeup remover works pretty good too. It takes waterproof mascara and gel liner off with just a little bit of work.

I watched Glee for the first time last week based on all the rave reviews the show gets on your blog. I thought it was fairly good in parts but it didn’t leave me wanting more. I decided I’d try it a few more times to make sure I gave it a fair shake. Though, maybe I should just check out last season’s eps instead if the consensus is that it’s going downhill. That would save some DVR space since Lost is my Tuesday night show.
Sally says
I’m so glad you transitioned from Gee to Glee, because every time I saw the word “Gee”, I couldn’t help but think “Yay! Glee!” Haha.
I’m sad to agree, though. The past couple episodes (save the Madonna one – I loved!) have been really disappointing. I hope they pull it together and bring back that magic that was last season!
JillyB says
I unfortunately had to watch Glee in 2 sittings- the first half one day and the second half the next. After the first half I was very disappointed (and I loooove Glee). Too depressing and not enough music. And not enough Santana and Brittany. But by the end of the second half, I was much happier, although the storyline brought me close to tears. But yeah, this week wasn’t so great. Hopefully next week will be better.
Stef says
I’ve been looking for a makeup remover that doesn’t leave an oily residue, and I love Benefit’s line, so I think I’ll check this out!
I hated this week’s episode of Glee! Hated it! Mercedes singing “I am Beautiful” was the only highlight for me. It was a major downer, and I don’t want the show to feel depressed afterwards, it’s called Glee after all! If next week doesn’t perk up, it may be the end for this girl!
margie says
I’ve never watched Glee…is that bad to admit? Its probably worse to admit I have watched Jersylicious ; D

I watch bits and parts of glee. It’s cute.
