Happy Thursday, chicas!
Lately, I’ve been thinking about scrubs.
Could it be the TLC I’ve been bumping 24/7 (“A scrub is a guy that thinks he’s fly and is also known as a bustahhh!”)?
Perhaps last Monday’s episode of The City is still lingering on my mind.
Whitney dumps her scrubby boyfriend; the women of the world issue a collective WOOT!
Or maybe it’s my new addiction to Clean & Clear’s Soft Purifying Cleanser Scrub ($7).
A few weeks ago I was getting zilch for sleep and wasn’t drinking enough water, which is usually a recipe for HOT MESS. My forehead broke out, my cheeks felt parched and my skin was looking pretty blotchy.
I picked up a bottle of Clean & Clear Soft Scrub. The product marketing says this oil-free scrub’s combination of gentle exfoliating beads, salicylic acid and white tea anti-oxidants work together to cleanse skin gently without stripping.
So far this blue bottle has delivered the goods. I’ve been using it in the mornings, and my skin’s looking more even and feeling less dry. The pimple situation’s improved, too.
Most exfoliating scrubs leave my face uncomfortably tight after rinsing, but not Soft Scrub, which leaves it quenched and hydrated.
And while other scrubs feel rough and raw, Soft Scrub’s beads buff gently without scratching. I like using it the morning, because the gentle friction and marine-ish scent wake me up instantly.
Clean & Clear Soft Purifying Cleanser
Price: $7
Use: A daily face scrub that leaves skin clean but not tight
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
The Clean & Clear website says Soft Scrub is supposed to be for teenage skin, but I think budget-loving beauties of all ages would like it, too.

The MAC Sugarsweet collection arrives today, yay! I’ve got my eye on Aquavert eyeshadow and Cakeshop Shadestick. Tonight I’m heading to the MAC counter to pillage and plunder. 🙂 Have ya’ll had the chance to check it out? What do you think?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

i am on a cupcake rampage dad’s 50th bday is this weekend and i am baking a cupcake tower ! dunno how its going to arrive alive to the resturant venue but the theme is fishing ( he loves to go fishing in the summer) – i have the book “hello Cupcake” as a guide for my decorations
mac sugarsweet is so cute but i dunno how i will respond to pastels on my skin i will have to see in person lol
Karen says
Hi Yadi!
How cool! What kind of cupcakes are you baking? Did you buy a special cupcake stand for it?
I wanna lick the frosting bowl!
I am a little wary of pastels on my skin, too. But the collection does have some richer shades to tone the other pastels down, like Club and Cakeshop. 🙂

Hey Karen!
My skin gets ultra dry, and every time I talk to a professional they tell me to exfoliate (scrubs and chemically!).
Being a Bay Area girl I have to direct you to the Face Shop in Santa Clara (I know it’s a bit of a drive, but totes worth it). A Korean-based makeup and skincare company, with only two locations in Cali (SC and LA). The girls in there were so nice, helpful, and they gave me a huge sample set of on of their skin care lines. I’m hooked.
But the BEST product I walked away with was Peeling Day White Jewel Scrub. You can FEEL the dead skin piling up as you exfoliate. For everyone else you can check it out here: http://thefaceshopen.com/
I highly recommend it!

Hi P. Potter,
You’re the second person I know who raves about this line. I have an esthetician friend who told me she love, love, LOVES it! Allegedly there are a few products available at the Spear Street Walgreens downtown. I haven’t had the chance to confirm this in person but I am dying to find out if this urban myth is true!

Hi Vampy Varnish,
Good for you for working out! Did you go to a class, or do some weights or cardio on your own?
I am actually thinking about walking to the bakery down the street to get a red velvet cupcake. It’s a 15 minute walk both ways… I figure the walk will burn the equivalent of one bite, ha ha!
YadiQ says
the cupcake tower will actually be on a base of 9″ 2 layer cake which i am covering with fondant
the cupcakes are being held in their tower shape with toothpicks and a foam cone that is being hidden in the center of the pile o cupcakes
i have a few fish friends i am making out of gum paste – shark a few lures and some random fish etc
i think he will get a kick out of it
i am with VV i want a pink cupcake too i am all about the pink cupcakes lol

Hi YadiQ,

Hi Karen,
Have you tried the STEAM scrub/mask thingie from clear and clear? the tube is similar to this scrub you like but it’s white and instead of scrub in big letters, it says STEAM. You put a generous amount on your face, like you would a mask and let it sit for a minute and then rub them in circular motion like you would a scrub wash and then rinse. oh and you use them in the shower as it works with the steam from the shower to open up your pores and detoxify (it says so on the tube, lol). Ive been using it once or twice a week for a couple months now and i LOVE it. my skin feels sooo smooth and supple after using it and there’s this cool tingly feeling to it too. and i feel like it helps my acne too.
oops, sorry for the long comment. love the blog, btw 🙂
Karen says
Hi Felicia,
Yup, I reviewed it a few months ago and I loved it. Isn’t great how it leaves your skin feeling so smooth?
What other Clean & Clear products do you like?

Hi Karen,
I think it’s super awesome of you to reply all the comments you get on your blog. 🙂
I’m not currently using any other clear and clear products except their oil blotting sheets but i have tried the orange burst cleanser ( i think that’s what its called) and a couple other of the same type of cleanser from them (clear gel like with beads in them) and theyre quite refreshing. but i always go back to my trusty cetaphil in the end as i feel it is the only cleanser that leaves my skin super soft and smooth.
oh btw, i saw someone comment on your blog about purchasing bobbi brown, and i read on one of the beauty blog i frequent (could it be that it’s this one? lol) that bobbibrown.com is having a 25% sale…. today’s the last day though. it’s 17-19 march. free shipping on orders of $60 or more. and i dont know if there are any products thats not included. but hey, thought i’d mention it 🙂
have a great thursday!

I am saving for a Clarisonic Skincare brush! I’m going to check out Sugarsweet & grand Duos tonight – I’m probably going to pick up the MSF’s, Cakeshop, Aquavert & Sweet Thing.

I worked out at the gym here on my work campus.
So I know you run, right? I have always wanted to be a “runner” but I have ZERO stamina! Do you just have to build up to it running say 2-3 minutes then walking for a few, then running again? Seems like such a fast way to lose the pounds!

Catherine says
Hmmm, I’ve actually heard a lot of good things about this product. I’m considering picking it up for SO… he doesn’t do much with his skin, but if he could use it in the shower, it’d probably help, lol.
Hope your schedule is a little better now though! The no sleep, over-stressed thing really sucks.. .=/

I’m going to check the Clean and Clear scrub when my face wash is all out which is soon.
Bwahaha, Go Whitney for standing strong and dumping him! “Too little too late” I was so proud I got all teary eyed.

A little late to reading this post… but just wanted to post a quick answer to VampyVarnish about the running. Yes, that’s a great way to work into running. If you’re just starting out, you can alternate doing a 1 minute run, 7 minute walk and then work your way up from there. I only started running 5 years ago; but, I run 5 days a week religiously. I’ve completed a marathon and have done a bunch of races. I know it’s possible to start from nowhere and become a “runner”. Just takes consistency in training that’s all. Good luck! :o)

I purchased this over the weekend and I must say, very impressed! The little beads seemed to exfoliate my face but like Karen said, it wasn’t rough. Plus my skin felt so soft and smooth afterwards!
