Here’s how you know you have a problem with makeup: when you get home really late, exhausted and ready to pass out, and the first thing you want to do is play with your new teal mascara. Yup, I finally got my multi-colored mitts on a tube of Clarins Wonder Mint Waterproof mascara ($23.50). You remember — I first spotted it at the mall a couple nights ago but came home empty handed because it was out of stock.
As luck would have it, my local Nordstrom DID have it in stock, and I brought it home with me yesterday. As tired as I was after work, blogging, shopping and dinner last night (I got home around midnight), I found the strength to hold that mascara wand steady enough to apply two coats.
That’s when the magic happened.
My lashes haven’t partaken of a color this bright since, well, ever. I thought I’d have to layer Wonder Mint on top of a black mascara to get the color to pop, but that was so not the case. Too bad it’s a limited edition! If Nordies still has it in stock when I head back to the store tomorrow, I am definitely going to pick up a spare.
This morning, after getting some sleep, I reached for Wonder Mint again and applied two coats. This time around I noticed a few things I missed last night: Wonder Mint fails as a lash thickener, but it does provide great length and separation, fanning the lashes up and outward while maintaining the curl.
I thought green lashes might look too crazy for work, so I skipped eyeshadow and liner to tone it down a notch. All day today I waited for someone to comment on my green lashes, but not so much as a peep! — nothing, nada, zip. I’m guessing Wonder Mint looks a lot bolder up close than it does from afar.
When I got home from work a few hours ago I applied a third coat, and that’s the one that took it from subtle-and-appropriate-for-work to you’re-totally-fired-you-crazy-green-lashed-lady. Stepping back several feet from the mirror, there was no missing the teal. I gotta admit, I liked the bolder color, but I’ll reserve the third coat for nights out dancing.
The fine folks at Clarins must have had clubbing in mind when they concocted this stuff because it’s also waterproof. It should hold up nicely when I get my sweat on at the club. This afternoon, in a completely non-scientifc test of Wonder Mint’s waterproof-ness, I spritzed MAC Charged Water all over my face and then danced around my living room to Missy Elliot’s Supa Dupa Fly CD (soooo good!). After the song, I checked myself in the mirror. There was a tiny bit of smudging under my eyes but no green streaks running down my face. Hallelujar!
Wonder Mint is part of Clarins’ limited edition Summer Fever collection, which is surprisingly filled with really pretty makeup. Mistakenly, I always thought of Clarins as a strictly skin care brand, but now I’m looking forward to checking out more of their summer line. I’m most excited about the brightly colored Waterproof Eye Pencils (in Violet, Turquoise, Bronze and Black) and the Sun Lip Balm.
