Wearing two coats of the new Chanel Western Light Le Vernis Nail Colour ($30), one of two limited edition shades from the new Hong Kong collection, available now at select Chanel boutiques and chanel.com
Go on. Do it. Dooooo it!
Stop trying to resist. Let the feeling wash over you like melted butter on French toast.
(Dang, how can I still be hungry…? I had a huge lunch!)
I’m talking about that craving you get when you fall in love with a new Chanel nail polish, and suddenly the thought of dropping $30 on a single bottle makes perfect sense.
I had it when Jade came out, and Vendetta, and Riva, and now I’m feeling it again with Western Light from the Hong Kong collection (joined by Eastern Light).
But it didn’t start out that way. My first thought when I saw Western Light from a few feet away was, “Pretty, but what’s the big whoop? It looks like a standard issue dark purple cream.”

Two coats later I was hooting and whistling at my hands like some kind of lip-licking, lecherous nail polish pervert, LOL!
You know how some nail polishes are masters of disguise? One minute they look one color, and the next they look another?
Well, Western Light does that. From some angles, it’s a blackened eggplant; from others, a dark roast coffee, hold the cream and sugar.
I like…

And it loves the open plains… Or rather, it loves spending time outside where it can get some sun. In direct sunlight, it looks much more complex. Reddish pearl micro-shimmer bursts through!

What’s that? Secret shimmer, BAM!

There goes Chanel again with the unexpected surprises.
Western Light is brand-spankin’ new, and I’ve only been wearing it a short while, but I’ve had great luck with other Chanel nail polishes lasting a respectable amount of time on my nails. In general, I’ll get at least seven days out of them before the chips come home to roost.
PRICE: $30
AVAILABILITY: Available now at select Chanel boutiques and chanel.com

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Ahh now I want to hunt this collection down! Love how the sunlight coaxes out all the complexity!

“Lecherous nail polish pervert…” LOL, oh yeah, I relate to having that response to a great, surprising polish result! Beautiful!
The pearl got me…now I’m thinking I need this polish in my (already too large) collection.
what a unique nail color – I love it!
Gorgeous! OPI’s Midnight in Moscow looks quite similar, though, and with a much more wallet-friendly price tag!
Any decent dupes you can think of? I just can’t constitute Chanel prices in this economy, but OMG is it pretty or what?!
This is so damn gorgeous
I recently started my journey with CHANEL Nail Polish and now I want to have few more
this one joins the wish list
Uh oh, Chanel strikes again. That is gorgeous! x

Love this! I really want to get my hands on this but my local counter didn’t have it. So I bought Rouge Noir instead…
I need, I want.
Can u say…………….GAW_GEOUS!!!!!
Wow this is some really cool polish. It is sooo fascinating that this polish seems to be more than one color from different angles. Luv the shimmer in this polish. So cool.

absolutely GORGEOUS color. totally didn’t expect to like this (not a big brown nail color fan) – yet you proved me wrong!!
@ Kadie Lee- haven’t seen Western Light in person, but you may want to check out Estee Lauder’s Molten Lava, which Karen reviewed as part of the Bronze Goddess collection last year. It is $20- and for .3 oz- less product than in the Chanel bottles. But for $10 less than Western Light(how does Chanel justify the price jump- is shimmer more expensive to produce?) it is worth a look. Same eggplanty brown shift and gorgeous red shimmer that comes alive in the sun… What are your thoughts on how they compare, Karen?
