In case you didn’t get the memo, Holiday is the new Spring. Well, at least it is according to Chanel. To the traditionalists out there, the new Les Tentations de Chanel Holiday 2010 Collection isn’t your typical holiday fare — you know, reds, golds and plums — but this isn’t the first time Chanel’s decided to mix it up.
Last year they celebrated summer for Christmas with blues, greens, golds and corals over the holidays. With a mix of pinks, fuchsias, browns and beige, this year they’re all about spring.
Like last year, lips are again light and carefree, shimmering and sheer. Rouge Coco in Magnolia ($30) looked like a pigmented shimmery pink in her tube but applies surprisingly sheer; even the Glossimers get in on the act, with the exception of Pleasing ($27), which does look opaque.
Cheeks are bright this time around (they were more golden last year) with the release of the super pigmented Les Tissages de Chanel in Tweed Fuchsia ($45), which, I’m happy to report, packs enough pigment and shine to show up on light AND brown-skinned babes (unlike the Too Faced powders we looked at yesterday), but lighter lovelies will only have to apply a little.
The eye products are kinda blowing my mind, particularly Ombres de’Eau in Splash ($32), a liquid shadow. It’s a shimmery pewter — a perfect combination of brown, gray and taupe. I’m also moved by the pink, beige, medium brown and dark brown shades in the Tentation Cuivree eyeshadow quad ($56). The colors lean toward the warmer end of the spectrum, and if you get a chance to check it out in person, take a close look at the medium brown (LOVE!). It’s got the cutest little bits of gold and pink glitter!
Chanel may have rewritten the traditional holiday color story again, but they certainly aren’t repeating themselves. Les Tentations de Chanel feels quite different from last year’s holiday release. It’s still Chanel, but where last year they took us to a fancy five-star resort, this year it’s a black-tie benefit all the way downtown.
Here’s are pics of 10 of the 16 items in the collection. Take a look, and let me know what you think. 🙂

Pleasing and Patchouli..and maybe anything else I like too..:D

That tweed blush is calling my name. I have always gravitated toward the JC’s in the past, but maybe I’ll deviate and get this one! That is, if I happen to bump into 45 extra bucks any time soon!
Tori says
Tabs has inside connections with Lagerfeld?! Awesome haha 🙂
Jess says
Wow wow wow! I love everything! Especially the tweed blush, that looks amazing!
Tiffany says
pretty! especially the tweed blush that I cannot afford!
saku says
Darn this collection. That blush looks amazing, but I’m not a huge blush wearer. I wish I could afford them all. Pink Pulsion, Patchouli, and Magnolia is on my list.
Nina says
The entire collection is fab — but its the tweed effect blush that is making me see stars! <3
NeenaJ says
love the quad!
House of Accessories says
Oh my, I”m loving the quad and Pleasing!!
NeicyRox/SoUthernBelle says
So purrty! I kinda hate the typical red/gold holiday stuff, so this collection is right up my alley! I’ll be sure to act on this one, because I was soooo mad I missed the SoHo one. 🙁
Lisa S. says
Oh the eye quad and the blush are so beautiful Pink Pulsion an and Magnolia are calling my name too!
Michelle says
So pretty! I ordered Magnolia a few days ago and am anxiously awaiting it!! I sent an email to my husband letting him know what I wanted from this collection (you know, for the holidays). Have you seen the adorable kits on the Chanel website? (a glossimer kit, a kit with a blush and glossimer and the mini brush set) Drools!!
Michelle says
P.S. I hope you’re planning on doing some looks from this collection!! Love your FOTD’s 🙂
Christian L. says
Hey would you say that Chanel blush is like Nars Orgasm or no?? And would you know of a great dupe for Nars Orgasm I have tired the Elf Duo Blush & Bronzer but the blush was not enough pigment for me! Thanks 🙂

I bought Tentation Cuivree (which means copper temptation), Tweed Fuchsia, Magnolia, and Charming so I’m all set for festive holiday evenings.
Magnolia is a lovely shade that is so versatile. For day, worn by itself, it is a soft demure pink. Add Glossimer in Rose Dilemma and it creates a more defined look that is deeper and cooler in tone. Add Glossimer in Charming and it creates a warm, sparkly look that is perfect for a glam night out.
Tweed Fuchsia is rather scary in the pan–at least it was to this pale person! The MA applied it on my cheeks with a fan brush, though, and it produced a soft, warm, natural looking flush.
For me, the real star is the quad. I’ve managed to come up with several lovely looks. That deepest brown in the quad is actually a plum tinged warm brown that is shot through with copper micro glitter. I use it over the Cassis Stylo Yeaux to create a smoldering smokey eye. Stunning!
This is just an outstanding holiday collection with something for everyone.
JJ says
Wow, I love this collection. I absolutely LOVE the quad. Thanks so much for posting this!
Rae says
Nrrgh! D: I’m not usually all “ohmygahd must have!” with Chanel (which is a good thing, especially for my wallet) but this collection… *fans self*
Lovely 🙂 Thanks for the swatches and descriptions!
Lindsay says
Everything looks so pretty! I def want to check out magnolia.
Kim says
Those Glossimers are better than ruby slippers! At least Chanel’s holiday looks a little less like spring (to me) than D&Gs did. Btw, do you remember Gossamer from the Bugs Bunny cartoons? I loved him. That’s all I can think of when I read Glossimer. 🙂
Karen says
No, I don’t! And I watched a hefty amount of Bugs cartoons in my day. Do you know the Barber of Seville one? Elmer chases Bugs around the opera house; hilarity ensues. I LOVE THAT ONE!
Kim says
Oh, yes! That was my favorite. It was the same as “kill da wabbit”, right? I remember Bugs doing the scalp massage. 🙂
Linky for Gossamer…

Seriously, these photos are A-mazing! I am always blown away by your precision but paired with Chanel? I could look at these all day long!! (And I’m embarrassed that I had recently posted a mere promo photo of this collection……) Those Glossimers are hypnotic!
Karen says
Thanks, Michelle. I’ve been taking pics for a while now, but still feel like I have a lot to learn! 🙂 Glad to hear you like this release.
applepark says
Splash you will be mine.
Did Tabs get his vacation approved? I heard a rumor he was taking off more time than allotted!
Karen says
He’s still waiting to hear back from Karl, LOL! I’ve rumors Tabs is traveling overseas to hang with Jay-Z and B. in Monaco… you never know with that cat, though.
Andreea says
The quad is brown?! NOOOO!!! I did not see it, no no no. I do not buy anything more from Chanel my stash is huge and no…
Chanel, you are going to bring me to the poor-house.
Karen says
The quad is GORGEOUS. Seriously. You could wear it every day!
Andreita says
OMG that quad is beautiful and the blush : D so pretty I like everything in this collection.
Karen says
The quad is really gorgeous and one of the best they’ve done for winter in a few years! 🙂
phuongk says
Hi Karen,
I’ve been dying to know what colors you think they used on the model on the ad for this collection. I’d really like to try to replicate but don’t know the lip or eye combos. Please help!
Karen says
Hi Phuongkk
I’m guessing that’s Magnolia and Pink Pulsion on the lips, Tweed Fuchsia on the cheeks, and perhaps a mix of the medium brown and dark brown shades from the quad (possibly applied wet) on the lid and the beige on the brow bone.
Megan says
I love everything, especially Tweed Fuschia!
Nellie says
This collection is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve worn the quad and the tweed blush already twice this week. My complexion is quite warm, but the blush gives me the beautiful flush — so rare for pink blush on me!
Unfortunately, these are my first Chanels purchases besides glossimers … and I am now IN LOVE with Chanel. My poor wallet! Now I’m eyeing Pleasing. I think it must come home with me this weekend!
Karen says
Hi Nellie,
I like Pleasing a LOT. You don’t have to use much to get full coverage!
Ahh… I still remember my “gateway” Chanel like it was yesterday. It was the Garden Party Quad.
Alexandra says
Nooooooo not more Chanel i want. Im eyeing the quad and blush. Not sure about the glosses, they dont look that pigmented 🙁
Ive recently got the quad and nail polish from the fall collection 😀
Irenemua says
Hi Karen, thanks for posting this! I’ve been dying for info about this collection! Do you find Fuchsia tweed too similar to Nars Angelika or Mata Hari to own all three?
Deb says
That blush is so gorgeous, I can’t stand it!! I am really tempted on those lipsticks, but I’m afraid that once I try Chanel, I won’t be able to settle for mid-range stuff like MAC!
Alison says
Gorgoeus, I really like Magnolia Rouge Coco it could be my perfect nude lip. I love these lipsticks I already have 3 of them, I’ve been wearing Camellia a lot lately I love it’s rosey shimmer with my pale skintone.
marisol says
OMG… I know what’s going to go on my holiday wish list.
Lily says
Hello! I have been following your blog for a while now and I LOVE IT! Exceeepptt… all the make up are making me sooo jealous! Chanel does not (or hardly ever!) sell their limited edition collections up in Canada…*sigh*
Julie says
Really?? Where do you live in Canada? I live in Ontario and the counters here have always released their seasonal collections. I get mine from The Bay or Holt Renfrew.
Betty says
Fab Collection.
Farah Dean says
I love the tweed fuchsia. Can you think of anything that comes close?
Michele DiCola says
I have my Xmas money. And I am read to buy!
See you at the Chanel counter!
