At least…
At least there aren’t any crumbs in my bra.
At least I have my two front teeth.
At least when my husky tabby sits on my bladder at 3 in the morning he only weighs 18 pounds and not 28.
At least I still have my sanity.
At least I can still do the Running Man.
At least I’m not infected with an as-yet unidentified pig/bat hybrid super virus (still freaked out after watching Contagion!).
At least I’m getting four hours of sleep; that’s better than not getting any sleep at all.
At least my muffin top would sustain me for a while if I ever found myself stranded on a desert island without food.
At least I’m not wearing stretchy pants 24/7 (at least, not yet).
At least I don’t have a Comic Sans tattoo.
At least I’ve never been in a hot tub on a reality TV show.
At least I have super agile toes (great for pinching people and for picking up pencils off the floor).
At least I’ve seen a sunset in Spain.
At least I have an inside voice, unlike Fat Man Scoop.
At least I can still drop it like it’s tepid (and sometimes lukewarm).
At least I no longer live with a roommate who absolutely refuses to change the toilet paper.
At least the new limited edition Les Jeans de Chanel Nail Colours ($29 each, available now), unlike the Joe’s Jeans I bought in 2004, will always fit.
Creamy Blue Rebel, the darkest of the three limited edition blue nail polishes that comprise Les Jeans de Chanel, is my favorite of the three, and like its two siblings — Coco Blue (a sky blue with subtle shimmer) and Boy Blue (a creamy denim) — it dries to a lovely high-shine finish. I’ve been using three coats to achieve full opacity with Coco Blue and Boy Blue but only need two coats for full opacity with Blue Rebel.
All three of these shades speak to my soul, but the angels aren’t singing in the same way they did for Vendetta, Riva and Jade.
PRICE: $29 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Chanel stores, counters and also online.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Hope your week got off to a good start. I’m still trying to get my feet under me (I was thrown for a loop by last weekend’s server glitch), but I’ll hang in there if you do.
vonnie says
WOW their polishes are expensive O_o I didn’t know they cost that much…nice enough but could probably find dupes
Swatch And Learn says
I like Blue Boy the most.
Agree with Vonnie – I have a feeling that you could probably find dupes of these colours. So I won’t be getting any of these most likely. If I splurge on Chanel and the high price tag, I want it to be a really unique polish or I just end up feeling ripped off.
Thanks for swatching them, Karen. I think all of these blues look so great on you, but especially Blue Rebel.
Karen says
Thanks, hon! I love, LOVE Blue Rebel. 🙂
Karen says
Hey Vonnie,
Yeah, Chanel polishes cost a pretty penny. If you like a certain color, though, it might be a nice way to get a little bit of Chanel luxury in your life!
marisol says
YOU ARE KILLING ME.
I really want Blue Boy.
I heard about the dupe for Peridot & I’ve got my cousin in Europe on the case.
Karen says
I had a feeling you’d like these. Are you gonna give in? You don’t want Chanel Jade Regret!!!
Marisol says
You had to go there didn’t ya? Hahaha!
I may splurge on one. We’ll see.
Soleil Doux @ Soleil Doux Blog says
I still like Coco Blue a lot, but now I’m kinda diggin’ your fave, Blue Rebel.
Decisions, decisions… 8)
Karen says
Love that color! Have you decided which one to get yet?
Vanessa says
At least you have a million readers that love you and read your blog every day…sometimes even when they’re not on break at work :P.
$30 for a nail polish makes my tummy hurt :/. I’ll stick with my true polish love, Zoya! Happy Monday, pretty!
Karen says
Hi Vanessa,
Aww… you’re so sweet. 🙂
Zoya makes some really great polishes and they LAST too. Do you use their whole system with the base coat, top coat, etc.?
kharanya says
I’m not much of a polish girl except on my toes, but I just had to comment anyway. I have flexible toes too that my husband call “Money Toes” and shrieks if I pinch him with them hehehe
Karen says
Hi Kharanya,
Haha! El Hub calls my me “Money Paws.” 🙂
Solangel says
At least Bettina has a collection basically identical to this and is only 2 for 5$ :D…
Karen says
Oh cool! Thanks for the budget option, Solangel.
Makeup Morsels says
I have trouble even dropping it like it’s tepid, so count yourself lucky! 😛
Boy Blue is my favorite, it looks like a slightly worn denim color.
Karen says
I can barely even drop it, LOL!
Kate & Zena says
Oooo, the middle one is pretty, but I don’t think I’ll pay $29 for it. We’ll have to wait and see. It all depends if I need a pick-me-up. My allergies are absolutely HORRID. I had to use the icky prescription eye drops today! I never have to use those! They make my eyes burn like nothing else. I hate them, I hate them, I hate them!
Karen says
Hope you’re feeling better today, Kate!
Kate & Zena says
I’m a teeny bit better. My eyes are still a teeny bit puffy and watery. I’m supposed to take my eye drops in the spring and fall when my allergies are at their worst, but I never do because my eyes never bug me. That and I absolutely hate my eye drops because of the double whammy–the burning sensation and the wicked aftertaste. I don’t know if you’ve ever taken Astelin, but Astelin comes in eye drops and that’s what I have (and it comes with the same nasty aftertaste!) Man, if only they invented a non-burning, non-icky tasting allergy eye drop, I’d be heaven.
Stephanie L. says
Gosh, I feel old–I remember when Chanel nail polishes cost $14 (or was it $13?)! And this was back in 1994 with the infamous “Vamp”! Vamp was my first Chanel polish–and the most memorable. But I *love* blue–so I think I’ll need “Blue Boy”. But to tide me over, Sinful has some great blue polishes (“Why Not” and “Paradise”, in particular) and you can’t beat their $1.99 cost!!
….I love your writing, by the way! (Says one English major to another…) 😉
Karen says
Woo hoo, English majors! 🙂
Remember how CRAZY everybody went for Vamp? And then how a few years later it was all about that Hard Candy baby blue. Ahh, the ’90s. Makes me almost want to bust out a spaghetti strap dress and baby T.
jen. says
Pretty pretty pretty. I’m not usually a blue nail polish kinda gal (though I did just paint my toes with Butter London’s Royal Navy because I bought it in a set), but those are all really pretty.
At least you don’t have a Comic Sans tattoo…. haha. Love it!
Karen says
Can you imagine? There’s gonna be someone out there who actually has one!
gio says
Blue Boy is very pretty! But I’m not sure I’d pay that much for it…
Karen says
Yeah, Chanel is usually quite pricey.
Heidi says
I have a real weakness for blue polish. Blue Boy is my favorite of these.
Karen says
Me too. Do you remember your first blue? Mine was that famous baby blue cream from Hard Candy…
Heidi says
I don’t remember the name. It was some metallic, foil-ly blue from Sally Hansen.
Mary says
Karen, you crack me up!!
Karen says
Thanks, Mary. 🙂
Jen says
I want to see Contagion now.
I don’t wear nail polish, but I like the Blue Rebel on you.
Karen says
It’s pretty traumatizing! Don’t be surprised if you find yourself washing your hands like a fiend after you finish the movie.
Jeni says
Ooh I’ve been waiting to see pictures of these! I love Coco Blue and Blue Boy, but I doubt I’ll be buying them at $29:( I wish my old jeans fit! I have a whole closet of jeans I keep hoping I will be able to get back into one of these days.
Karen says
GURL, me too. I have a pair of 7’s that I can barely put one leg in. One day, one day…
Sonya says
I do like Blue Boy.. However, I have to say I’m a little disappointed in this collection. Chanel usually provides unique, standout colors but these seem a little plain and dupe-able :/
Karen says
Hi Sonya,
What are your favorite Chanel nail polish colors?
Suzanne says
love them all!
Karen says
Glad to hear that, Suzanne!
Faye says
Just got them in the mail yesterday, and can’t wait to try them! And when I saw the price listed here on your site, I winced. Somehow I managed to block that when I paid for them. We HE cosmetics addicts are such suckers :).
I have another “at least” to add (having had a bad day myself yesterday): At least we have Karen’s blog to brighen our day !
Karen says
Hey Faye,
I can’t keep up with you, you international traveler! Where are you now? Last time we chatted you were on a plane…
Faye says
Hi Karen! I’m back in the U.S. (except for a mini-trip to NYC in November), and then in December we’re making the move to Hong Kong. So the next two months are going to be really crazy, packing up our house, making arrangements, etc.
How are you and El Hubs and The Cat (I feel he should be in caps)?
Karen says
Hi Faye,
Wow, that’s really soon! I remember being so stressed about moving just 20 minutes north up the highway. I can’t imagine the logistics involved in shipping your stuff across the globe!
An important moving question: will you be hand carrying your makeup with you on the plane?
Things on this end are looking up. I had to deal with some server B.S. for the site over the weekend, but for the most part it looks like the drama is over (knock on wood). El Hub, Tabs and I are doing fine — just preparing for his parents to come and stay with us at the end of the month for a few days. They’re moving from Hawaii to California, which means no more surfing for me over the holidays Thanksgiving and Christmas (sad face). We’re happy to have them closer to us, though.
Faye says
We’re getting a furnished flat, so no need to ship furniture, etc. Just our clothes, electronics, some books, and a few kitchen tools I can’t live without. As for my makeup — ha ha, I think it would need a whole row of its own! It has to be shipped on its own. I keep it segregated by item type in plastic containers anyway, so I’ll just take those containers out of the Sterilite carts and ship them.
Glad your in-laws are moving closer, but I imagine you’ll miss the Hawaii vacations :). How’s your mom-in-law feeling these days?
Hope the server issue is resolved! I can’t imagine how teeth-gnashingly frustrating that was.
Jill says
Got these and like them even though I didn’t NEED them. I was at Gap yesterday and they had Gap brand nail polish(new for them). The bottles are similar to Chanel’s and the worker there said the other girls who worked there and tested them swore the similarity to Chanel was more than just the bottle. I haven’t tested any myself though. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Jill,
I haven’t been to Gap in a while; I’ll have to check out those polishes next time I visit. Let me know if you end up trying them!
Chris25 says
Pretty blues, but now that I’ve seen the swatches I’m not sure how unique these are for me to spring for them.
I love that you can pinch people with your toes! I wish I could do that. Then I could pinch boyfriend when he hogs the covers.
Drop it like it’s tepid….you’re lucky. I can drop it like it’s freezing. It’s all I could do for years. 😛
Karen says
I actually use my toes to pinch El Hub all the time, haha! 🙂 It comes in quite handy, believe it or not.
Nina says
im loving Boy Blue. why, you ask? because Boy Blue is my favorite character in my current graphic novel obsession, Fables. yes. im a nerd.
i loved this post, Karen. it reminds me that there is always, always something to be thankful for! <3
Karen says
It’s that nerdiness that makes you AWESOME, Nina! 🙂
Nina says
why thank you, awesome CCL! <3
Fefe says
$30 for a single bottle of nail polish? I… will… not. LOL 😀 I love the colors though as I am a biiiig blue polish fan but nope. I won’t do it.
Karen says
Hi Fefe,
Yup, that’s Chanel for ya! Did you see Riva a few months ago? Now that’s a gorgeous blue!
Fefe says
Riva is VERY pretty but with China Glaze, Essie, Ulta and OPI brands around… I’m bound to find a dupe some where LOL.
hiba says
i dont know if you’re responsible for the ad in this post: new girl . well i’ve watched the pilot and i cant wait for it to start, the girl is sooooooooooooo cute and adorable and the guys are hilarious too.
ps: blue is my favorite color of all time, i love those nail polishes especially the darker ones.
Karen says
Hi Hiba,
I read a story about the writers who do that show. I haven’t seen it yet, but I think I might have to check the pilot out!
Do you think you might pick up any of these Chanel cuties?
hiba says
i do recommend the pilot, what about the movie paerl harbor (with josh hartnett) have you seen it yet?
i’m not a great nail fan ( i do them in special occasion: it’s either a nude color or a hot pink) so i cant justify buying these (not to mention they’re so out of my budget right now)
Christine says
And at least you can always make your readers days brighter by describing how you can drop it like it’s tepid & don’t have a comic sans tattoo. Thanks Karen :D!
Karen says
Aww, thanks Christine!
Hope you’re having a lovely Tuesday!
Erin says
Oh these are gorgeous! But too expensive. Plus I found my perfect formula in Illamasqua polishes :)!
Karen says
Hi Erin,
Illamasqua makes some really pretty polish colors. Which colors are you wearing these days?
Sarah S. says
I don’t know why but what really tickled my giggle button was the “At least I don’t have a Comic Sans tattoo!”
Karen says
Hi Sarah,
I’m kind of a font freak, and Comic Sans is my font nightmare! For April Fool’s a few months ago I actually changed all the fonts on the page — EVERYTHING was Comic Sans. It was hilarious, but by the end of the day I was ready to poke my eyes out.
Adria says
Dang it, Karen! I only wanted Coco Blue out of this collection, but because of you I am loving Blue Rebel. There can only be one!!!!!!!
Karen says
Hi Adria,
Girl, not to be your pusher or anything, but that Blue Rebel is really gorgeous. I still have the swatches on my nails and have been staring at the color all morning.
Do you already have Riva? Because if you do you might not need Coco Blue.
Mariana says
“At least I have super agile toes (great for pinching people and for picking up pencils off the floor).”
Oh man! This cracked me up, I do the same thing. At least someone else considers that a talent!
Karen says
Hi Mariana,
Haha! Isn’t it great? I can pinch HARD, too. 🙂
Heather says
I don’t usually feel like I’m missing out by having a stupid nail polish allergy (yes, it’s as horrid as it sounds!), but I am lusting after Blue Boy. I’m afraid he would not be kind.
Karen says
Hi Heather,
Bummer about your allergy. Do you know what specific ingredient in the polish that your skin doesn’t like?
I have allergies too — I’m allergic to certain body lotions (they cause me to break out in huge hives).
Heather says
I really wish I knew 🙁 I was able to wear them without any issues until I was about 21. After some research I thought it might have been formaldehyde, but even with a formaldehyde-free polish, my face breaks out and gets itchy.
I’ve tried several random-ingredient-free ones as well to no avail. Even clear polishes don’t play nicely anymore.
Karen says
🙁 It must be hard with all the beautiful colors that come out every season.
Hmm… have you ever thought about trying nail stickers?
Karo says
I have them! From Berlin!
And I love them 😉
And I´m so happy!
Have a nice day dear Karen 🙂
xoxo
Karen says
You too, Karo!
Ashley says
Tabs is 18 pounds??? o.O That is one husky tabby!
These colors are beautiful but I can’t believe Chanel raised the price. I stopped with Black Pearl at $25 and said NEVER AGAIN!
Vijaya says
$30-ish is a bit pricey for me. If it were $25, I’d be right up on Blue Boy. Maybe. I think maybe a Zoya polish I have is pretty close. xP
Kim says
Blue Rebel, how much do I love you? Let me count the ways (not quite 29, but maybe close). 🙂 I loved your list; it made me laugh out loud. I also hate when there is a stray hair in my bra/in the front of my shirt. Drives me crazy! If it’s any consolation, I think everyone I know is worried about their jeans situation this season. And I’m talking about “can I squeeze into LAST year’s?”. Sigh.
Amy says
i got blue rebel and love it. the only other chanel i have is paradoxal, and i don’t regret it.
anyhoo, i am so with you on the toes, i call mine “intelligent feet” !! lol
KayDi says
Love this post! Too bad the price of these went up 🙁 I want them for the names but will pass because I’m sure I have similar colors already. At least my wallet is happy 😉
amy says
Coco Blue is pretty!
Rin says
Russian navy by OPI looks very similar to blue rebel! The only Chanel polish I have is peridot… In Australia they cost $39! Ouch.
