Fact: Chanel’s new Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eyeshadow in Tissé Vénitien ($61) will not be tardy for the party.
No way. She’ll be right on time.
This quad dazzles with shimmering greens — one of which, the metallic light greenish platinum on the left, is the star of the show for me — and a quiet dash of pink.
The greenish platinum sparkles like the desert sky at midnight during a new moon, yet amazingly, it isn’t obnoxious. For a party ready look in mere seconds, I like to use my finger to apply it to the center of my lids.
Tissé Vénitien is one of the new Chanel tweed-inspired quads with the baked formula.
Like the others, it’s supposed to cover all the bases for an eye look from start to finish, but with that, I have to disagree. I feel like you also need at least one matte up in the mix to contour with, and also to contrast with all of the shimmer here; otherwise, it’s sparkle overload.
Not a big deal, though. Just add one or more mattes from your collection. I’m using MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Give Me Sun here, which I popped into the creases for depth.
I’m also wearing…
- BECCA Shadow & Light Bronze/Contour Perfector (contour)
- Chanel Joues Contraste Blush in Malice (cheeks)
- MAC Iridescent Powder/Loose in Golden Bronze (highlight)
- Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Intime (lips)
- Urban Decay Perversion False Lashes in Bait
“The green party quad.” That’s how I think of Tissé Vénitien. For me it’s the fun one from the collection, the one made for fabulously fun elegance.
The habit of heroes
On my walk yesterday I spotted a small slip of paper on the ground right in front of a vacant bus stop. It was just fluttering there in the grass.
I noticed some handwriting on it, so I bent down for a closer look (I’m kind of nerdy and nosy that way, haha!).
I don’t know who wrote it or why it was there. Maybe it was a bookmark that had fallen out of someone’s book. No idea. But it moved me. I felt like the universe was reminding me to be brave (and not to just sit on my butt).
It says…
“Casting off the shackles that bind you, you hurl yourself toward an end you can only dimly see. This is the very stuff of faith, the habit of heroes. Be bold, intrepid soul.
To the author of this little note, wherever you are, thank you. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Karen, this looks beautiful. Just gorgeous. I recently splurged on three of the Chanel quads- one new, two of the older formulas, and I love them all. But this one!! I never would have guessed it would wear this beautifully. Wow.
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
Thank you! Greens can look intimidating in the pan, but can be surprisingly wearable if you ground them with mattes. 🙂
What quads did you get, by the way? I hope you picked up Mystic Eyes or Spices (two of my faves).
Carolyn @ The Makeup Writeup says
Tisse Venetien looks stunning on you, Karen, but I feel that in general you pull off smoky or more dramatic colors really well. Also, what an amazing note to find on the ground. So inspiring and thought-provoking — thank you so much for sharing, that note is so timely for me as well right now!
Karen says
Hi Carolyn,
Smokey eyes 4-life! Do you wear smokey eyes often? I think it’s my favorite type of look. 🙂
Agata says
This quad is beautiful and it really looks great on you. But I’m in love with your cheeks here. So pretty!
Karen says
Hi Agata, Thank you! I did a stronger contour and highlight. I’m not sure about the contour powder though…still working it out. What eye makeup did you wear today? 🙂
Marisa says
Hey Karen!
Thanks for previewing this palate I think I have found my make up for this years Christmas party! It’s never to early for me to keep on the look out 🙂
Karen says
Hi Marisa, This will be a beautiful holiday party palette! Do you like wearing false lashes? They totally take this palette to the next level. 🙂
Icequeen81 says
The Champagne shade is beautiful. Nice message
Karen says
Hi Icequeen, It’s a stunner. I wouldn’t mind is it was an eyeshadow single. Or a cream shadow! Hope you had a nice Monday.
Icequeen81 says
Me too is a nice neutral shade, u can use bu day and night,
Yes I had a nice Monday hope your Monday was good as well.
Teri says
Oh wow Karen, you are rocking this quad! I loved the shades immediately after I saw it for the first time. So so tempting!
Vanessa says
What an amazing note 🙂
Sunny says
This is definitely a quad I’ve been eyeing! It’s a good call to throw in a matte or two for sure. The finished look has so much dimension! <3
Amanda says
Karen, I bought the LE Poesie one, Eclosion, and yup, Spices. I was torn between Mystic Eyes and Eclosion. I love your blog! It’s the first thing I look at in the morning! Im trying to go through the older posts and compile a list of must haves and HGs.
Marisa says
Hey Karen!
I have never tried falsies :() But… I would definitely give the a try for this pallette!
sone says
Such a lovely find Karen!!
Kim says
Gorgeous as always but there is definitely a lot of shimmer. I feel a little blinded just from looking at the pics in the pan/swatches. They’re beautifully toned down on your eyes, though!
I love that you found that note – I’d take it as a sign from the universe, too. I found the source for you. Pisces Horoscope from July 5, 2010: http://www.philstar.com/horoscope/590048/july-5-2010
I like it even more now since I’m a Pisces. I hope I was bold on that day! 🙂
Brian aka Roulette says
I can’t believe no one has mentioned your lashes!! I gotta look those up. Love the way they look, that was the first thing I noticed.
Shelley says
Karen… Did you try Googling the words on that note you found? I was a little curious, so I decided to do so myself. I found the exact quote on an online horoscope page under Pices. Looks like someone was using it to motivate themselves before the words were passed on to you by divine intervention (or carelessness on the owner’s part and curiosity on yours).
B-T-Dubbs, this quad looks amazing on you!
Karen says
Thanks Shelley! Now I know…it was written in the stars. 🙂
Renee says
Karen, I don’t know what you did with your lashes but you look fantastic! Dare, I say years younger?? Simply beautiful, and the Chanel quad is too. Oh, and thank you for posting that note. I feel like I needed to hear that as well. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Renee,
I’m wearing falsies. 🙂 They’re the Perversion False Lashes by Urban Decay. They photograph well but are pretty heavy and uncomfortable. Ahh, the things we do in the name of makeup!
fancie says
The quad looks beautiful and the look you created is so pretty! You really rocked it!
Karen says
Hi Fancie,
Thank you!
Cathy says
I adore these new Chanel shadows and have four of them. The Tisse Venitien was the final purchase because I simply loved the colour and the promo photo made it a must-have. Although the green is sensational on, I just couldn’t get the look I wanted, but you’ve nailed it…using a matte colour in the crease. What a brilliant idea! Aren’t you clever? Thanks so much for that tip.
Karen says
Hi Cathy,
I’m going to try to recreate the promo pic just for fun one of these days. I love that eye look. What other palettes did you pick up?
Cathy says
I bought Tisse Cambon, Rivoli, Camelia, Vendome and Gabrielle. Uh-oh. That’s five. They’re all gorgeous, but do need combining with some matte shades.
Natalye says
pretty shades!
Karen says
Hi Natalye,
Yes they are. Have you tried any of the new Chanel palettes?
Barbara says
You never say what is on your LIPS which is usually so very pretty!!! I want to know lip colors, please!
Laura says
Stunning!
Will you please do a tutorial of this look on Youtube?
