Ahhh… You know things are going well when 1) your coffee tastes better than usual, and 2) your day begins with new Chanel.
Even though it feels a little weird to talk about fall makeup in early summer, my Chanel homie just hooked me up a with few preview products from the fall 2008 collection. Autumn leaves, here I come!
The entire gold-themed collection lands at Chanel counters this July, but here are three members of the fall collection. I’ve yet to see the items I’m *really* lusting after — the Gold Fever Highlighter and the Gold Light Glossimer — in person, but these should tide me over for now.
Rouge Hydrabase Lipstick in Great Copper ($26)
A semi-matte lipstick, Rouge Hydrabase in Great Copper feels nothing like those dry, cakey, heavy matte formulas of the 90s. I really like the formula Chanel used for Rouge Hydrabase. It’s light and incredibly moisturizing. Great Copper literally shimmers on my lips, and it almost couldn’t be easier to wear (That’s it in the picture above without a lipliner).
I can see myself wearing it to work every day. I know that wearing gloss on top of matte lipsticks sort of defeats the purpose, but I can’t wait to wear a thick layer of clear gloss on top of this. My makeup spider sense tells me it’s gonna look somethin’ fierce. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
Jouse Contraste Powder Blush in Rose Dust ($40)
This beauty gives cheeks a matte, rosy plum glow. At first glance I was afraid this shade would be too cool and light for my tanned, post-vacation face, but after dusting two layers onto my cheeks I saw I was wrong to worry. Unlike light pink blushes with a tendency to look too obvious on tanned or dark skin (in a “Hey, look at me, I’m wearing blush!” kind of way), Rose Dust looks great on a tan. The shade reminds me of MAC’s Blushbaby! Still, because the pink is so light, I have a feeling it will look great on pale gals, too. Oh, and the texture? It’s soft like buttah, baby! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
Pretty Pink Lip Definer ($28)
Pretty Pink bears a striking resemblance to my pink lip liner of choice, MAC Pink Treat Cremestick Liner, but has a tiny bit of shimmer (Pink Treat is matte). While Pink Treat is a bit easier on the pocketbook ($14 — half as much as the Chanel liner), Pretty Pink glides onto my lips a bit more smoothly than Pink Treat does and looks drop-dead gorgeous. A light tracing of pencil on the outer edges of my lips leaves lots of concentrated, rich color.
I’m not crazy about the fact that I’ll have to use an old school pencil sharpener with it. I try to avoid makeup pencils in general because, inevitably, I know I’ll end up over sharpening the tip, but I really do like the soft, creamy formula and color. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

You can bet I’ll have full reviews when the full Chanel fall collection hits counters next month. 🙂 I promise to keep you up to date on specific counter dates when I get them.
So, I just finished my second cup of coffee and I’m off to work in a few. This morning I woke up with Blister in the Sun, by the Violent Femmes, stuck in my head … where it has been for three straight days!
What’s on your playlist today?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

That’s a great song! Funny one to wake up to.haha
I love that rose dust. I’ll have to go take a look at it when it comes out!
Today I’ve been listening to the new Coldplay cd. I don’t usually like them but the Viva La Vida song is so good!! I just had it playing over and over again while I cleaned the kitchen.haha
Have fun at work!
Rochelle O'Brien says
Oh I so can’t wait for the full collection to come out. We don’t get it until mid-August over here, so I will be salivating over your product pictures when you post them!
Karen B says
I can’t wait. That blush looks gorgeous as does the lipstick. I rarely wear lipstick though as my hair gets stuck in it – or in gloss for that matter – and I have to admit I never tried lipliner… lol

Hi Bridget,
I know! I’ve listened to it about 234,565,432 already today. 🙂
I like the new Coldplay, too… I am not a die hard fan, either, but I do enjoy many of their songs.
Work so far has been OK. I’m fighting a headache right now, but at least it’s kinda quiet.
Is it still sweltering hot in your neck of the woods?
Jessica says
That lipstick looks great on you! I know I said before I’m a lipstick person, and it’s great moisturizing formulas — the way that one looks to be — that make me love it so. Those matte ’90s lipsticks were so horrible. I have one of the softer Sephora formulas (with the “G” in front of the number) that I like, and I’m a fan of the MAC lustre and glaze formulas, too. The Chanel color looks fantastic, but as a pale girl with cool undertones, I think I’ll probably have to pass it by, unfortunately.
The blush, however, looks right on target!
Today I woke up with Hank Williams III version of “Honky Tonk Girls” going through my head … “with their big hair and their rhinestones and their puh-hearrllls!”

Hi Rochelle,
Bummer you’ll have to wait, but at least you’ll have time to think about exactly when you want. Are you a big Chanel fan, too? What are your favorites? Right now I’m *loving* on Astral Glossimer.
Karen says
Hi Jessica,
Thanks! I remember you telling me that you were a lipstick kinda girl. Weren’t those 90s mattes HORRIBLE? I spent the decade deflaking my dried out lips, ugh. I like the lustre and glaze formulas from MAC, too. What are thoughts on the Slimshines? Have you tried em yet?
My dad LOVES country music. I can’t tell how many times I heard “Honky Tonk Girls,” LOL!
Glosslizard says
Oh crap.
The blush, the lipliner, and I haven’t even seen the gold glossimer yet? It’s deep deep trouble for my budget this fall! That blush looks ideal for me (The upcoming MAC blush collection looks to have some winners too, how many blushes do I need anyway?!? Somebody stop me!) and I loooove my Chanel lipliners! I have Tulip and Natural and they both go on so easily, yet stay all day! This one looks like it would be perfect with Splendeur!
That lipstick is amazing on you! I’m not sure it will suit me, but I’m going to try it on anyway! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Karen B.,
I have to admit that sometimes I’m too lazy to use lipliner, but it helps with darker colors for me. Lineres are also kinda fun because you can use them to change your lipstick or lipgloss shade by wearing them underneath. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Girl, we’ll be rolling pennies together, no doubt. Oh yeah, that blush is gonna look HOT on you. Blushes are like black shoes… you can’t have enough. 😉
I see an addiction to Chanel lip liner in the making, oy vey!

Oh man, I’m in trouble!!! Just when I felt that I had hit makeup-max…. I cannot wait to see these.

Pink!!! Je t’aime! But I don’t love the price tags though 🙁 I need some blushes but I have lots of pinks already since they look good on me. Looks like some of us are going to collect coins to fund these babies 🙂

I can’t wait to try to Rose Dust. That’s my name!!!!!
Miss QQ says
I like the blush and lip liner but I rarely use lip liners because I have the habit of mismatching the color of liner and the lipstick so the result is horrible LOL. I used to survive on only two blushes – a natural pink one and a darker one like bronzer. However, this blush is just calling on me! Great Copper looks great on you, but I probably won’t get it because I don’t want another dark lipstick from Chanel (I already have two and they are expensive).
Oh, I will have to wait till August for Chanel Fall Collection… Meanwhile, I’ll drool on your upcoming review and swatches.
ParisB says
Uhoh… I love Chanel blushes and that one looks gorgeous! Is it anything like Caprice or Narcisse? I have those two and if its too similar I’d have an excuse to pass on it 😛

Hi Tuprnut,
LOL, I’m always on the verge of makeup max!
How are you liking your Spices quad?
Karen says
Hi Iheartmakeup,
I will be sure to put a pic with the blush soon (hopefully this weekend). I think it would look really great with your skin tone.
It was fun chatting with you, too! Hopefully one of these days (when you are here or if I’m ever in your neck of the woods) we can chat in person!
Karen says
Hi Dao,
I hear ya, girl! That blush is no joke though… it’s beautiful!
What are your favorite pinks?
Karen says
Hi Rosie Dust,
How cute! I hope it looks great on you… it’s gotta be meant to be, since it literally has your name on it. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Miss QQ,
Hmm, I hear ya. Have you ever tried a lip liner that matches your natural lip tone? I’ve found that colors that look just like my lips work for everything, even the darkest of reds. My go to natural lip liner shades are Sublime Culture or Subculture from MAC. 🙂
I used to survive on one blush alone, too — Blushbaby! LOL, those days are over.
Hopefully I can get some swatches, soon. I’m so eager to see the gold Glossimer! *drools*
Karen says
Hi Paris B.,
Oh boy, I wish I could tell you if it’s similar to Caprice or Narcisse… I don’t have those (boo hoo). I only have Enchanteress (which, btw, is awesome). When I go to the counter next I can take a look!
Do you have MAC Blushbaby? If you do you probably don’t need this.
i♥makeup says
Thank you!! I’ll definitely look into that blush!!! <3

Yay! The first non promo pic of rose dust i have seen. You rock Karen! This post drove me to post my first comment 😛 Is rose dust less brown than MAC Blushbaby? I found that too muddy on my fair skin 🙁
TUPRNUT says
Love it! I keep reminding myslef not to neglect my other eyeshadows, because I could use it everyday and never get bored. But, now, between the new Dior and Chanel launches, I’ll have a few more pretties to choose from.
Dao says
I need to update my blushes soon. I had a raspberry color from Estee Lauder and it rocked my world. Recently my cheeks don’t hold colors the way it used to be so I need something brighter.
Karen says
Hi Iheartmakeup,
You are welcome! You know I’m always happy to feed your Chanel habit. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Ziggy_medusa,
It’s good to meet ya! Yes, it’s definitely less brown than Blushbaby, and with more cool pink tones. I hope that it works for you, as it’s a very pretty color.
Are you a Chanel fan, too?
Karen says
Hi Tuprnut,
Sweet! I have that one on my list of Chanel wants so it’s good to hear that the colors are versatile and useful.
You gotta try the Dior palettes next! Yes, they are a lil’ bit shimmery, but you never know when you need date night makeup. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Dao,
Hmmm, maybe the skin on your cheeks is changing? Or could it be the heat and humidity? I’ve found that when it gets hot sometimes blushes (especially cream ones) slide right off.
If you want something bright you should check out MAC Dollymix! 🙂

I guess but somehow I’m scared of ending up like a clown… lol

Hi Karen
I don’t have Blushbaby but it’ll give me an idea which colour to compare this one with. If you do check out Narcisse or Caprice I’d appreciate if you could compare it with those 🙂
Thanks!

Awesome colour Karen! I can t wait to try this out. Think it might be flattering on my NC40 tone. Love the texture of Chanel’s Hydrabase lipsticks. They actually have very good staying on power.
Currently got on a 80s playlist and happily jiggying into the weekend to the likes of Foreigner, Talking Heads, Belinder Carlisle…
Karen says
Hi Daya,
You’re welcome. 🙂 I’m crushing on the copper big time, too!
Karen says
Hi Parveen,
I’m way jealous of your Joues blush collection! You’re my hero. One day I dream to have more than two, LOL. Do you have a favorite? What should I get next?
Karen says
Hi Paris B.,
Sure! I will be by the counter in the next few days to say hi to my friend there and to bug them about the fall release. 🙂 I’ll write myself a reminder to look at those shades!
Karen says
Hi Natasha,
Funny you should mention 80s, girl! I was ROCKING out to Journey today. Don’t Stop Believing is the jam!
Which Hydrabase colors are your favorites? I’m thinkin’ I need more in my life. 🙂
