I find it both hilarious and totally fitting that Burt’s Bees Cranberry & Pomegranate Sugar Scrub ($13 for an 8-oz. jar) has a warning on the label that reads, “do not consume.” Seriously, they have to tell you not to eat the product because it looks and smells THAT good — like a jar of berry-licious preserves or a sugary frozen treat.
I dug into it when I jumped in the shower after I got home from the airport last night. I noticed on the list of ingredients (it’s 100% natural) that it contains a BUNCH of different oils, among them soybean, coconut, cranberry, olive and grape seed. The Zia Skin Basics Bamboo Exfoliant I was happily using last week just didn’t seem hydrating enough to restore the moisture that had been sucked from my skin by the recirculated air on the plane.
Sugar, soybean oil and cranberry oil are the top ingredients, and I swear I can feel all three. The product’s certainly rich, yet I can still feel the tiny grains of what I assume are sugar. They do have some grit to them, but they’re nowhere near as painful abrasive as the grains in Zia’s Bamboo (they may get the job done but feel like torture in a tube!).
Ingredients: sucrose, glycine soja (soybean) oil, crambe abyssinica seed oil, silica, zea mays (corn) starch, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, parfum (fragrance), vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry) seed, vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry) fruit juice, punica granatum seed oil, vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry) fruit powder, mel (honey, miel), hydrolyzed soy protein, tocopherol, aqua (water, eau), magnesium hydroxide, citric acid, limonene, geraniol
My skin sent me a thank you card this morning for using this stuff last night! 🙂 It leaves behind a thin, oily film, but if that’s what you’re looking, and in this case I was, you may not mind. For what it’s worth, at least it’s not sticky. 🙂
As a matter of fact, it left behind a slippery film at the bottom of the tub, a knock against it that might make it unsuitable for clumsy gals, parents with young children, and people with older folks at home.
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating If you’re into oily exfoliants and 100% natural products, you might want to give this a sniff. The grains are a little gritty but not painfully so, and Tabs loves that Burt didn’t test the stuff on animals. Of course, he doesn’t spend much time in the shower, so he had no comment about the slippery film in the tub. 🙂 Available at drugstores and online at burtsbees.com. Grade: A-

I dont know about its exfoliating qualities, but that looks delicious!!! 🙂
Karen says
Have you tried this before? I think it exfoliates well.
mumla2010 says
Not yet, although I might – even though I am not normally into oily exfoliants.
Karen says
The smell alone makes it worth a go. 🙂
If you live near a store that sells Zia, then the Bamboo Rice Bran might be something to check out. It’s not oily at all!

Cranberry and Pomegranate seems very popular these days with skin care or am I just late in noticing it? This looks divine and I love how moisturizing this seem to be. I will have to but in on my will try list.
Karen says
Yeah, it seems to be the new “it” combo!
Jenn says
I must try this! Is it only for the body, though?
Karen says
Hi Jenn,
I think it’s designed only for the body, but I read a review on the burtsbees.com site where a woman talked about using it on her face and liking it.
BlovetBeauty says
looks gd enough to eat
Karen says
No kidding!
Christina says
mmm that does look good! I’ve been trying to make my own scrub lately, using used coffee grounds mixed with vitamin E oil. It’s been working pretty well, though I have to work in small batches since it goes bad pretty quickly. Maybe I’ll try it with sugar next!
Karen says
I made a homemade sugar scrub a long time ago using olive oil and brown sugar. It was really nice (and cheap!), but incredibly messy.
Vonvon says
Looks so yummy! I like stuff with Cranberry and Pomegranate in them! but I have a little kid…..guess it’s out of the question unless I have to diligently scrub the tub every time after I am done with it.
Karen says
It does leave the tub *very* slippery. Do you have one of those tub scrubber brushes with a handle? I bet if you carry one in there with you and do a quick scrub down of the bottom of the tub it would help.
gio says
I have to try that, it looks so delicious!
Karen says
It smells and feels just as good as it looks. 🙂
Stavroula Plag says
Oh my… that looks so yummy!!!!
Karen says
Totally! I want to eat it all up with a spoon, LOL!
Toni says
Hmm, this looks good enough to spread on toast or a bagel! Are you sure we can’t consume it? LOL! It sounds great! I need a good sugar scrub, but unfortunately, I haven’t found any that have a fragrance I can tolerate. I might have to swing by the store today and try to find this and take a whiff. Thanks for sharing!
Karen says
Sure thing, Toni. 🙂 I hope you like the scent!
Nina says
LOL @ do not consume. it does look like raspberry preserve – awesome on toast or a saltine! 😀
i <3 scrubs bec i love the clean and tingly feeling i get after a good scrub. i must try this out! 🙂
Karen says
Ha ha, or maybe a bagel?
It was soooo satisfying to scrub the heck out of my skin after the long plane ride, lemme tell you!
Nina says
i <3 scrubbing !!! my fave is a scrub followed by a clay mask. makes me feel like i did a spa day – in the comfort of my own bathroom!
Kim says
It looks delish, but that slippery film in the tub is a deal breaker for me. I hate that near-slip, get your heart pumpin’ moment first thing in the morning! 🙂
Regarding the “do not eat” warning, I’ve been told that using food images on HBA products in Europe is prohibited. Apparently they’re concerned that people (mostly children, I assume) will think it’s edible. Can any European readers confirm/deny this?
Karen says
That’s interesting. I wonder if it’s true… I didn’t really spend a lot of time looking at skincare while I was there, but I did see a few face/body products and now that I think about it none of them had pics of food on ’em.
leo says
hmmm… I live in Europe and I do have at least a couple of beauty products with pictures of fruit (a burt’s bees cuticle cream tin decorated with juicy lemons is right here on my desk, lol), so I’m afraid it’s not true.
However, there is a well known marketing urban legend regarding the débacle of a baby products firm that merchandised in Africa baby food with the picture of a baby on the jars (and there, as many people cannot read, usually the pictures on boxes refer to the content… 😉 )
that scrub is really mouthwatering!!
Kim says
Thanks Leo… and oh, gosh, I definitely remember the baby food urban legend now! Just out of curiosity, does your Burt’s Bees product also have the “so not eat” warning on the back?
leo says
Hi KIm! no, they don’t! but here in Europe we don’t have as many lawyers as you have in the US… 😉
Tiffany H says
It looks so good!
Stef says
Yum, it looks like a sorbet slushy! I will def. be giving this a try, I’m a scrubaholic.
Jen says
I saw this at CVS the other day. Maybe I’ll pick it up once my Body Shop one is done.
saku says
That’s looks like jam.
Appu says
Why am I seeing Cranberry & Pomegranate everywhere??!! BTW, the scrub looks delicious…if not for the warning on the tub, I would have ended up eating it , lol! 🙂
Trude says
Sounds great! I’ve been using Trader Joe’s salt scrub but it’s a bit harsh for me, and I haven’t seen their sugar scrub in the store lately. This would be a good alternative. I usually use a quick swipe of body wash after scrubbing to get any oily residue off, since my skin doesn’t do well with it. 🙂
tomi // mytigerlily makeup says
Seems like it would smell AH-MA-ZING
I’m looking for a scrub actually.. I’ll look into this one
Annabella Freeman says
I’m so there it looks gorgeous – glad you are back safe and sound xoxo
diane says
A… I would surely be tempted to eat it. yeah…who cares what the label says?:))))

Used this on my face tonight!!! I bought the beet shampoo/conditioner and this came with as a trial packet. I honestly fell in love! I have very sensitive skin and most scrubs really irritate my face.. I will def be buying this product next trip to the drugstore
Deana says
I also bought the shampoo that came with the trail packet and LOVED it. Although I only had enough for my face and arms. I have looked and cannot find this scrub anywhere, any idea’s? Regarding the ” Do not consume” Thank god the put that on there! Haha, it smelled AMAZING. 🙂
