Ah, spring…
It’s getting closer by the minute. Yesterday I noticed a tree on my street, which doesn’t usually bloom until April, already has flowers on its branches, and this morning on the Today Show the hosts were saying that much of the country has been having an unseasonably warm winter.
But it’s not all good. They say it’s confusing some crops and bird migrations.
I think it’s also confusing my sense of smell. This winter, I’ve been reaching for the heavier perfumes I tend to wear this time of year less often than usual, and opting for lighter, fresher fragrances like the new Burberry Body Mist ($50) more often instead.
I almost wore out the original Burberry Body last fall, and I like this new, limited edition spin on the scent just as much.
It seems more dainty and delicate than its sibling, yet still retains the rosy, feminine feel that made the original Burberry Body a hit with me.
Burberry Body Mist
“Dive into a sensation of green freshness with the fruity accents of peach and the sensuality of freesia. This fragrance blooms with light floral notes of rose petals and iris, gently combined with the captivating signature of sandalwood. The cashmeran base blends with soothing vanilla, amber, and musk to reveal the unique character of this seductive woman. A new way to experience Burberry Body, this mist is formulated without alcohol and can be used all over the body and hair.” – Sephora.com
- Top notes: fresh green absinthe, peach and freesia
- Middle notes: Rose absolute, iris and sandalwood
- Base notes: wood cashmere, creamy vanilla, amber and musk
It reminds me of a lighter version of Lancome’s rosy Tresor, but with stronger notes of iris and freesia, and I think it’s just so girly and sweet that it compels me to don a pink dress, pearls and heels.
For a body mist, the scent also lasts a surprisingly long time. I can still detect a single spritz on my wrist six hours later.
It’s also human male approved. 🙂 Yesterday I sprayed some in my ‘do, and when El Hub and I hugged when he got home from work, he so eloquently said, “You smell good.”
I doubt that Tabs, the other male in my life, appreciates the scent as much as he should, but since he does have a taste for the finer things, you never know. I’ll ask him the next time he’s making biscuits on my tum.
PRICE: $50 for a 2.8-ounce bottle
AVAILABILITY: Available now at department stores, Sephora and online

Better Valentine’s Day gift for a dude: electronics or zombies?
Those are two of El Hub’s favorite things, but neither one makes an ideal gift for Valentine’s Day.
Hmm… I go through this every year. After 10 years together, you’d think it would be easier than this.
What do you think? What’s a good Valentine’s Day gift for a dude?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

You scared me off with the Trésor comment! I’m still intrigued though, I’ll have to sniff next time I go to Macy’s.
I have no idea what to get my fiance for V-Day, besides going out to dinner or something! We’ve been together 7 years, and I still have so much trouble picking out gifts for him!
Karen says
Don’t be scared! I only meant to say there’s a strong rose component, which is what I get when I wear Tresor. 🙂

If he likes to read I strongly recommend “Warm Bodies” by Isaac Marion. It’s excellent. It’s a zombie love story – appropriate for Valentine’s Day.
Karen says
Aw, that sounds like it might work! Does it have any action? Or is it a straight up love story?
kprice says
It has action. It’s told from the point of view of the zombie (he falls in love with a human).
Karen says
Sold. A zombie love story… who would’ve thunk it! I always assumed they were brain dead, you know?
Patty says
Combine the two: a zombie video game, perhaps? And, I love the original Burberry Body! I do notice that it tends to smell kind of soapy, at least on my skin. Does this body mist also have that quality?
Karen says
Hi Patty,
I don’t really get soapy notes from either. I mostly get the florals — roses and freesia.

its so hard to find v-day gifts for the dude in my life too. i almost always end up w/ bath products and clothes. 😀
Karen says
I would totally buy both for El Hub, but he’s so picky! Le sigh… I know I could always get him See’s chocolate, but that’s sort of a given. 🙂
Nina says
see’s <333
the hubs is pretty picky too. like he only likes jeans and tees from the gap and that sort of thing.
he also loves philosophy 3 in 1s, and he uses them religiously! his favorite is bubbly. 🙂
Karen says
I have this theory that almost all men in the US own at least one black jacket and a pair of khaki pants from the Gap. Is this true in your household?
Nina says
yes ma’am! we have one black and one army green jacket and several pants of assorted fabric and color. thats really only where the hubs will shop at; and only if its not inside a mall. LOL!
Karen says
That’s so funny! The only way I can get El Hub to the mall is if I trick/bribe him either food or going to the movies! Otherwise he’d still be wearing clothes and pants from 10 years ago.

I think I’m getting my hubby a remote control car starter for Valentine’s Day for his new truck. This may not be a big deal to California folks, but for those of us in Indiana, it comes in handy when the weather gets really cold (or hot!). It’s 60 degrees and sunny right now, which makes my flowers completely confused (poor things are starting to poke their little heads through the ground already)! It should be about 25 degrees here at this time of year. Craziness!
Karen says
I wouldn’t mind getting a remote control car starter! That sounds really cool.
What flowers do you have in your yard? I hope to whip our front yard into shape this spring/summer, because the rosemary bushes are out of control.

You made me want to buy it…..can’t wait to give it a sniff!
Karen says
It’s so pretty! I wore it today and it made me very happy.

Check out ThinkGeek.com, it’s my go-to for gifts for my guy! They have zombies AND tech! 🙂
Karen says
That’s like the perfect combo! 😀
Tracy says
This sounds absolutely lovely! I like the original too, but this sounds even better.
A zombie graphic novel maybe? You should check some out!
Karen says
I’m thinking either that or a zombie love story, haha!
Rachel says
My guy loves zombies too…. One day when I’m in the doghouse or really need to butter him up, I’ll be buying him one of these zombie survival kits:
