Burberry Beauty Light Glow Blush in Misty Blush No. 8 on cheeks and Lip Cover in English Rose No. 23 on lips
To say one merely “walks down the street” in her signature Burberry trench coat doesn’t do justice to the coat. Walk? Nay. Ladies strut in Burberry. 🙂 Both in their coats and in beauty products from the Burberry Beauty brand. Like Burberry’s coats, pieces in the makeup line exude elegance with a timeless ease that wears well with pretty much anything.
Despite not having been on the makeup scene long (less than a year!), with only a couple of seasonal collections under their check pattern belt, the company has done a good job bringing their luxuriously unfussy sensibility to the products I’ve seen.
With their Spring/Summer 2011 release, an 11-piece collection of limited edition and repromoted products for eyes, lips and cheeks, Burberry sought to channel the same effortless look they like to send down the Burberry runway. Sculpted cheeks softly glow in pink, rose and tangerine; rosy nude lips blow kisses; and eyes, softly defined with powder shadows in beige, rose and brown, charm unsuspecting passersby.
I looked at four of the new pieces today…

Light Glow Blush in Earthy and Misty ($42 each)
These powder blushes were made for runway cheeks, but I mean that in the best possible way. When I wear them, I look more like I’m running to catch the bus, but I think that’s a good look too. 🙂 Matte neutral brown Earthy and matte warm pink Misty look natural on the cheeks, almost like nothing at all. I find myself having to build the color up with three layers, but lighter lovelies might prefer one or two (and might even try using Earthy as a bronzer, too). If not for the price, I think I’d like them even more. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B

Lip Cover Lipsticks ($30 each)
Whoever dreamed up this lipstick’s magnetic cap deserves a raise. The click it makes is almost as satisfying as Coca Cola on a hot day. Rosy brown English Rose and peachy pink Delicate Rose impart a soft sheen and subtle color to lips. Neither shade will stick around through dinner, but they do last about three hours between meals. The yummy light flavor and scent remind me of Sweet Tarts and roses, and the texture feels light, moisturizing and creamy on my lips. I like them both, but I don’t like the price. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+
Swatches from the left: Light Glow Blush in Earthy Blush No. 7, Light Glow Blush in Misty Blush No. 8, Lip Cover in Delicate Rose No. 22 and Lip Cover in English Rose No. 23

The colors aren’t going to spark any revolutions, but the prices might (they’re right in line with Chanel and Dior). I feel there are some very flattering, solid staples here, and if you lean toward the Trish McEvoy/Bobbi Brown makeup aesthetic with shades on the quieter side, you might really find a lot to like. The collection is available now at select Nordstrom stores and also online.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. I just got back from my appointment with the personal stylist at Nordstrom. I’ll give you the 411 tomorrow, but in short, it was COOL!
dani@callitbeauty says
these colours look gorgeous on you! i’m not too thrilled w/ the idea that i would need multiple layers out of the blush so those are out of the question, but the lippies look quite lovely. i especially like delicate rose 🙂
Karen says
Yeah… you gotta be down to do a few layers with these. Have you ever tried Burberry before?
Rae says
Mmm, magnetic cap? *wants* I’m loving Clarins’ Rouge Hydra Nude formula right now (which sound pretty similar – sheer, with a great smell and lovely shades), but damn, the lids are a nightmare to get on and off!
Karen says
The cap is so cool! It kinda spins until it snaps shut.
AnieJ. says
Love everything Burberry but it is really made for lighter skin, which is an overall bummer though good for me. I just wish I could afford it all… oh who am I kidding, just one blush would devastate my budget!
Karen says
Well, maybe one day you’ll get a gift certificate to Nordies. If I get one I save it for when I’m in the mood to splurge. 🙂
Makeup Morsels says
Delicate Rose is beautiful! This is definitely the kind of makeup I admire from afar… can’t get too close with those price tags.
Karen says
It’s nice to know it’s there if you’re ever in the mood to splurge. 🙂
gio says
The lipsticks look gorgeous. But 30$?! That’s way too expensive for me.
Karen says
It’s pricey, but if you’re in the mood to splurge…
Soo says
oh man, those lipsticks sound cool! haha, I really like the detailing (engravings?) on the sides too. gotta love that about certain lipsticks.
Karen says
I love it too!
Kim says
English Rose is the standout for me (and of course, I really like the plaid design embossed on the products). You’re right that they’re pretty pricey but I’m actually now thinking about how much I need a Burberry trench. That’ll be a bigger problem than a $30 lippie! 🙂
That is so cool about the personal stylist. I’d have to drive for 5 hours to find a Nordstrom’s and I can just picture what the poor woman would say. It would be like a bad ep of the BBC version of What Not to Wear! HAHA!
Karen says
LOL… the minute I walked in I was like, “Dude, I dress like a teenager and need to STOP!” He laughed (hopefully with me and not at me).
Kim says
HAHA! I’m sure it was with you. 🙂 In college, a bf’s ex once said about me, “Seriously? She dresses like a boy!”. I was full of righteous indignation and sputtered, “WHAT?! I don…. well, yeah, I guess I do”. Now I kind of dress like a teenage boy on his way to basketball practice! 🙂
Karen says
LOL… I’m like your California counterpart on the way to the beach or the skate park, HAHA! 🙂
Kim says
Love it! I was making fun of the Hubs the other day for wearing a shirt that I felt was cheesy (he competition pistol shoots and gets stuff from some of the companies). He was like “You’re wearing an Ovechkin shirt! You’ve got ZERO room to talk!”. It was a solid point. 🙂
Alka says
Love the English Rose lippie but unfortunately not enough to spend that kind of $ on a single product . Although it definitely has the potential to be an HG pink for me, I don’t see myself buying it sight unseen online. Thanks for posting the review/swatches Karen!
Karen says
You’re welcome, Alka. I hope your day is going great. 🙂
Vijaya says
OMG, I just felt a pain in my wallet.
Karen says
LOL, it happens sometimes.
Ruchita says
Gorgeous colors! I love the pattern on the lipsticks. Unfortunately, they are a bit pricey. Looking forward to hearing about your appointment with the stylist!
Karen says
The check print on the lippies gets me every time!
Tracy says
I love Burberry Cosmetics! They are so luxurious! I have one blush, and now I’m wanting that Misty Blush #8-it’s so pretty!!! That Delicate Rose lippie looks lovely too!
Karen says
Oh, Misty would look so pretty on you.
Did you catch Being Human last night? I’m not ready for the season to end!
courtney says
SO pretty! omg!
Karen says
Yes!
Christy says
Those are pretty! I love Burberry Brit Sheer too 🙂
Karen says
Love that scent!
lexi says
I do LOVE a good lipstick click 🙂 You’re making me crazy sweetarts now! (not hard to do…but all the same…)
I love those two lipsticks! they look lovely on you!
Karen says
Thanks, Lexi. What’s neat is how the caps kinda spin right before they click shut. Seriously, the magnets = genius.
Nina says
Karen — you look gorgeous!!!!
elegant and understated – im liking this collection a lot!
Karen says
Thanks, babe! 🙂 How are you today? I hope you’re feeling 100%.
SimplyStephy says
Gosh those are beautiful! If i’m ever in the mood to splurge I will def. dish out, but for now inspirational use is good too 🙂
Karen says
Inspiration is always good. Sometimes it’s just nice to window shop.
Lisa says
These look so pretty on you! The price tags are a bit scary, but I’ll have to check them out next time I’m at Nordstrom.
Karen says
They are pricey, but if you ever go down the Chanel/Dior route then it’s comparable. What are you thinking about getting?
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Ooh, I’m excited to hear about the personal stylist!
You know what would be an awesome service? Some stylist with serious organization skills should make house calls. She’d show up and help you organize your clothing and accessories (I seriously need help on that front), and then after determining what your style/s is/are, she’d help you create a handful of outfits to express your style. I’m sure someone already does this, but I don’t think I’d be able to afford it, lol.
steph b says
Stacy London from What Not to Wear has launched that kind of service — Style for Hire. They’ll come to your house and help you shop from your closet or go shopping with you. I really, really want someone to give me this as a big present!
Karen says
I would love that for my birthday. WANT!
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Oh God, me too! That sounds amazing. I wish I had the kind of cash it probably costs to ask her to come by!
Karen says
The appointment went well! I’m doing a little write up and will post it in just a few.
How’s your day going? Good, I hope. Hugs to the kitties…
Katherine says
Karen, do you think that the formulation of this lipstick is as good as a Chanel or Dior lippie? For me, Burberry has been a hit or miss on some of their products (eye shadows). I don’t mind to pay 30 dollars for a lippie that I know that I’ll wear often but I do expect a certain amount of quality as bang for my buck.
Karen says
Hi Katherine,
I do. The only thing is it’s really, really creamy, so if you like your lipsticks to have more of a thickness to them, you may find them too slick. If you have any more questions please ask… I’m happy to help!
Katherine says
Thank you! I’m heading down to the Ala Moana to take visiting relatives for a day of shopping and dinner at one of the restaurants at the top and will pick up delicate rose 🙂
Karen says
Have fun with your relatives! What restaurant are you guys going to? I love the Nordstrom Cafe there!
Cindy (Prime Beauty) says
I still haven’t succumb to Burberry Beauty–not for lack of desire but lack of funds! The LIght Glow blush is very pretty though and I like the lipsticks too. English Rose lipstick looks a bit like Chanel Darling I’m wearing today–or is it my monitor?
Karen says
Hmm, I think it might look similar! You’d look gorgeous in either of these blushes, btw. 🙂
Amy says
I am wondering about your necklace, beautiful!
Karen says
Hi Amy,
It’s from Forever 21. I bought it a few months ago:

Liz! says
Ugh, I love Burberry’s makeup!!! Total bummer about the price though, that have to be a rare splurge for me and I have some splainin’ to do! Lol
Can’t wait to hear about your experience with the stylist!
Karen says
What makeup do you like from the line, Liz?
The stylist appointment was great… will have an update in just a few.
Christine L says
Cool top, Karen! Where’s it from, if I may ask?
Karen says
Hi Christine,
It’s a dress I bought years ago (seriously… like in 2002!) from a random shop in San Francisco. I cut the tag out ages ago so unfortunately I can’t tell you the designer. 🙁
Denise says
Wow look at that English Rose lipstick! I bet that color would look great on you, Karen! Think I will hit the counter at Nordies this week and try Burberry! I am also planning on trying on Guerlain’s Rouge G lipstick soon. I love a creamy lipstick or a creamy gloss. Love your necklace, Karen!
Karen says
Hi Denise,
You will LOVE the Rouge Gs! They feel amazing on. 🙂
Fakhra says
Omg i LOVEEEEEEE Burberry!!!! First time I have used their make up and I absolutely love it! I ordered it online and it comes in beautiful packaging, in a gift bag with a big ribbon spun into a bow!!!! Bought the earthly blush and the delicate rose! Is a bit costly-gorgeous!! I know its expensive but seriosly save up and just go for it- no harm treating yourself once in a while Lols xxxxx
Lori says
I ordered some blush and eyeshadow from Nordstrom. I have a problem finding the right blush, but I do look better in lavenders, plum and navy with my brown eyes.
I’ve been wearing Chantecaille lipsticks, $32, and I do find the better ones don’t feather
I’m not sure which Blush would look better on me, Right now I’m just wearing Bobbie Brown bronzer in Med.
Lora says
I just want to say thank you for your reviews. I’m so excited, I have a girlfriend in France and she has picked me up 16 lipsticks from guerlain rouge G’s ,le brilliants,Ysl pur couriers and pur shines but I’m most excited about the two Burberry lipsticks in English rose and Heather she got me. I can’t wait for them to get here. Your blog helped me so much with deciding whether to try the lippies or not. I can’t wait to see them and play with them. Thanks you so much for all your hardworking, don’t know what I would do without it. And I just wanted to tell you your absolutely gorgeous .
