And the award for Best Dressed Lipgloss goes to…
The Tarte Maracuja Divine Shines ($21), yay!
[INSERT RAUCUS APPLAUSE]
How exciting! 🙂 I love it when something really girly and pretty wins.
The 10-piece release of moisturizing lip plumpers just launched with Tarte’s spring 2012 collection, and I can’t get enough of that floral design.
But what about the other categories, like Best Hydrating Lipgloss, Best Lipgloss with a Funny Name and Best Wear Time? Does Maracuja deserve any of those nominations?
Well, perhaps one of them…
But first, what the heck is maracuja?
The answer to that: passion fruit. Maracujá oil is derived from the seeds, and it’s added to Maracuja Divine Shine Lip Gloss. Tarte claims that it makes these glosses highly moisturizing with a high dose of essential fatty acids and vitamin C.
RANDOM FUN FACT — While Cujo, the rabid St. Bernard from Stephen King’s book of the same name, bears no resemblance to these glosses, it is very easy to mistakenly type “maracujo” instead of “maracuja.” In fact, I’ve done it at least 10 times.
These do feel fairly moisturizing to me, but after wearing them for a few hours, I notice some flakes…

Wearing Natural Beauty
As for the colors themselves, Tarte says they range from soft to vivid, but on my pigmented lips, the range runs from fully sheer to medium. And after about an hour, all of them fade to nearly clear.
A few more observations…
- Wear — I get between 2-4 hours, depending on how much I’ve had to eat/drink, and I do have to reapply after every meal.
- Flavor and scent — Mmm…peppermint! It’s light and refreshing, fades after about 15 minutes, and kinda makes me feel like I just brushed my teeth.
- Texture — Thick and sticky like a MAC Lipglass.
- Packaging — The button on the end dispenses the gloss (like a click pen), but get ready for a thumb workout, because I had to click several of the colors about 100 times to start the flow. After that it got easier.
- Plumping — It’s subtle, which is to say that my lips did not go from normal to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
- Brush — I’m lazy, so I love brush tip applicators like these that I can use without a mirror.
More moisture would make these glosses even cooler than they are, but they’re still so darn cute and portable that I think I’ll keep ’em around for times when I want something sheer, shiny and easy to apply.
PRICE: $21 each

Hope you had a great Tuesday! I just walked in the door from my hatha yoga class, and guess what? Tonight I didn’t fall down.
Except for those two times… 🙂

How pretty do those look! 🙂
Karen says
Yes, they’re super cute!
Julliah says
I’m more of a minimalist look for packaging instead of the frilly, flowery look going on here but the glosses themselves look pretty 🙂
Karen says
You might like the minimalist packaging of Tarte’s LipSurgence, Julliah:

Karen, I have no idea how you’ve managed to churn out so much content today, but I’m impressed! 😛 (Also, excited. More content –> more makeup goodies for us to read about, of course!)
These look fab – I’m not loving the packaging (eep, sorry!), but you make a pretty good case for the product inside. I’ll probably be skipping on them (non-moisturizing glosses + prairie air = bad idea), but it’s awesome to see another brand come out with a line of mainly-non-shimmery glosses! Large shimmer, unfortunately, is not typically my lips’ friend.
Karen says
Prairie air, yikes! I take it that it gets really cold and dry around your area?
claire says
Boo, I was hoping they were passion fruit scented. It’s my very favorite flavor- and so hard to find! Every once in a while you can find passion fruits at whole foods, but having a gloss with the flavor would have been nice in between!
Karen says
That would’ve been cool! I wouldn’t mind a passion fruit scent, either. 🙂

I like the packaging, the brush, the swatches, and your pictures! I don’t like the peppermint flavor and scent. I wish they smelled like passion fruit.
Amazing post, btw. As usual! 🙂
Karen says
Thank you!

It’s adorable, isn’t it?
Joey says
These are so pretty, are they available in the UK at all?
Karen says
Hi Joey,
Hmm, not sure. I asked in the comment below if anybody knows of a place…
Jackie says
I’ve not seen Tarte at all in the UK. Pity because I love the look of the blushes in Karen’s other posts.
Karen says
Thanks for the skinny on Tarte in the UK, Jackie.
If anyone else here happens to know of a place in the UK that does sell the line, please let me know!
Sonya says

Thanks, Marina!

I really adore the packaging, but I think it’s a little disappointing that it doesn’t last that long AND is sticky. I thought stickiness is the trade-off for how long it lasts on lips. Ah well…
Karen says
Well, good thing there’s lots of other treats out there to tempt you with!
Nina says
grr! i love the colors but cannot use sticky lipglasses! im religiously trying to use up my MAC lipglasses because of that!
Karen says
Aww, bummer. As long as it isn’t windy outside, I don’t mind it so much. 🙂
Happy Wednesday! Is work going okay for you today?
Nina says
its not bad. i hope it stays pretty even til the weekend at least!
Chris25 says
These are pretty to look at, but for what Tarte is offering, I think I’ll stick with Stila Lip Glazes.
Karen says
Those are fun too! I haven’t worn them in years, though.
Happy Wednesday!
Phyllis says
Well thanks to Karen I was able to start my Tarte Divine Lipshine in Adored-I actually thought my tube was defective…but after a mini Thumb work out-I can say I love this lipshine–

Hey Karen! i purchased one of these glosses along with a lip scrub from Tarte (it was a special duo available from QVC) and really am loving the gloss. (The scrub is really cool, too.) The packaging is adorable and has a high shine finish. i hate anything mint flavored, but this was more subtle than the Lipsurgence pencils, so i am able to handle it. =)
Mariam says
Wow they look really beautyful! Can I get them in EU?
corallista says
Blissful and Natural Beauty are beautiful! I love the packaging of these. What are you wearing on your cheeks, its looks great on u!
Bia Pattoli says
Hi Karen! Just for add another fact, Maracujá it´s the name of Passion Fruit in Portuguese. And it´s spelled mah-tah-coo-jah. ;D
xoxo
Kim says
Oh, they are SO cute. But the drying aspect is a killer for me. It’s funny that you kept typing Cujo because every time I saw it, I thought “marijuana”. Between the two of us, we’d come up with some interesting product names! 🙂
