I try to wait until I finish a pack of cleansing wipes before looking for a new one to try, but I’ve been wearing a lot of long-wearing eye makeup lately (MAC Blacktrack!!), and the Physicians Formula Organic Wear Towelettes I’ve been using just haven’t been up to the task.
Perusing the beauty aisles at Target the other day I noticed Boots Expert Sensitive Cleansing & Toning Wipes ($4.50) 1) because I like the font on the package (LOL!), and 2) because they’re made for sensitive skin (mine’s been extra sensitive lately).
Like most beauty cleansing towelettes, they’re supposed to cleanse the skin and remove makeup without the need for water. Beyond that, these are also supposed to gently tone and, thanks to a non-greasy blend of aloe vera and mineral water, calm and soothe fussy skin (they’re free of soaps and fragrances as well) without leaving a funky film.
My skin’s pretty sensitive, but so far so good. They feel soft and haven’t caused any breakouts yet, nor do they cause my skin to tighten up.
Now for the big question: how do they handle long-wearing eye makeup?
With aplomb! Expert Sensitive removes every last bit of gel liner and waterproof mascara without breaking a sweat. And foundation, powder and blush? — Everything, POOF!
I also have to give the people behind the packaging props for making a sticker closure that actually works. I’ve tried craptacular ones before; they open just a crack and the towels dry out = big PIA, but Boots did a good job here. The closure stays closed and keeps the wipes damp and fresh.
What a great deal for $5 (for 30 towels; one gets the job done). They’re cheap enough to even justify getting an extra pack for my nightstand … for when I’m too tired/lazy to wash off my makeup before bed. 🙂 Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

First off, I love Boots. Every time I’m in the U.K, I shop the hell out of Boots (and I was very excited when they started selling their products at Tar-jay). However, I’ve used their wipes a couple of times, and they took a really long time to get my eye makeup off! I don’t wear a whole lot, but I found my old Neutrogena wipes did a much better job.

I’ll have to check that out! I like Boots products a lot! I gave up on trying to completely remove gel liner, I usually end up with a thin line that stays on my lids for a few days before it all comes off.

If you store the wipes upside down, the opening gets a better seal and they don’t dry out as fast! I do that with my wipes and I’ve had the same pack for about 2 months and they’re still moist! I also tell that to my family members who have babies haha!

The Neutrogena wipes do a pretty good job of removing waterproof makeup, but they do leave an oily film behind, so I always have to rinse my face afterwards. I’m going to try the Boots wipes to see if they work for me. Seems like they are a bit cheaper than Neutrogena too, which is awesome.

I have to try this! I tried the Korres pom one the other day and I didn’t like it. It was too dry.

Thanks for the tip Karen! I will grab these the next time I’m in Boots. I’ve only ever bought the Johnson&Johnson ones, and if I remember correctly I gave the L’Oreal professional wipes a go too. The J&J ones wouldn’t stay closed no matter what and dried out almost instantly. I also remember both of them making my eyes water like crazy, and blacktrack wouldn’t come off unless I scrubbed.

I’ll have to give that a try next! Right now I’m using Clean & Clear’s version and really like it. I have super sensitive skin (the Soap & Glory ones were too harsh for me) and using long lasting makeup, and they’ve really done the job. They’re just big enough to get everything on my face, although I’ll usually follow up with a swipe of super gentle toner to make sure I’ve really gotten everything. I’ve used Boots’ eco-friendly version of the wipes before and really liked them, I think I just switched because of price (I think…maybe?). 🙂

I love this line. I use the eye cream, mostly as a base for concealer. Super inexpensive products, but very gentle. Glad to hear the cleansing wipes stand up to the test!

These sound great! I’ll have to check them out the next time I’m at Target.
I totally relate about noticing fonts! I’m a typography nut, so I always pay attention to what fonts companies are using and great packaging design. Have you checked out the myfonts.com newsletter? If not, you MUST! 🙂

I’m also about to pick up another package when I still have an open package — L’oreal Skin Genesis. Love how they are on my skin but they irritate my eyes. I’ve looked at the Boots wipes before but never picked them up because of the sticker closure. Have wasted too many wipes thanks to bad sticker closures. Will check these out.

The best product I have found to remove blacktrack is LUSH Ultrabland… It is SO gentle on your eyes, has no chemicals so it doesnt sting, or make your eyese tingle. They unfortunatly do not have it in a makeup wipe form, but its the greatest eyemakeup remover in my opinion.

Ooh! I will definitely have to check these out — I’m feeling that you might have a little bit of a cleansing cloth obsession, Karen 😛 (And it’s a good thing, because it means you can do all the trying-out-new-things for me ^^)

Cheapness and effectiveness are always an awesome-tastic combination, if you ask me. Especially with cleansing wipes – I’ve never had too much luck with drugstore ones before. I’ll definitely be checking these out!

Glad that they worked especially with the gel liner. I am still content with the Kirkland ones. Fairly inexpensive & work great to remove all my MU.

I am currently using the Korres Pomegranate one and really like them, though they don’t do a great job on waterproof eye make. They do smell amazingly divine though!! I’m a Brit living in the US and have to admit that Boots is one store that I miss passionately. They have launched a new “retro line” with simple stuff like Rosewater in the most gorgeous vintage packaging that I am thinking of asking my mum to send over, but mailing rosewater is the most disastrous and silly thing ever!

Thanks for the review! I don’t use makeup removal towelettes very often, but when I do, I’ve been using the CVS brand. It doesn’t remove my mascara too well, so I’ll have to definitely check out the Boots when I run out, especially if it is good for sensitive skin.

funny that you all are jealous of boots, I guess i take it for granted living in ireland, however would give my right arm for a sephora [or rather left arm, would still be able to apply make up then :))]. love this blog btw

I LOVE BOOTS! So much I work for them. These wipes are incredible, have you tried the 4 in 1 wipes….those wipes I CANNOT live without.

I’ve been sticking to the generic Equate ones from Walmart because they’re just so darn cheap! But they definitely aren’t the best out there. When I run out of those, I think I’ll give Boots a try!

so no need to rinse afterwards? no stickyness or residue? and how do these compare to the soap and glory?
