My bad luck in the crap shoot that is genetics = totally your gain. Why else would the powers that be bestow upon me a dense thicket of body hair if not to serve as a guinea pig for all of (hairy) womankind?
Peep the latest episode in the epic struggle between Karen and all forms of hair removal technology — this bottle of EOS Evolution of Smooth Pomegranate Raspberry Shave Cream.
I picked it up at Tar-ghay last week when the cute pink bottle caught my eye (it was also on sale for $2, down from the regular $5).
The Pomegranate Raspberry version is one of seven scents in the line. EOS dipped into their garden for these paraben-free bad boys, adding aloe, oat and shea butter to moisturize parched skin.
The company claims it works for wet and dry shaves, so I tried it with both. Oh, and to put the severity of my body hair situation into perspective, nimble-fingered children could probably weave rugs out of the hair that would grow on my legs if I let down my beauty guard. It’s THAT serious.
Pomegranate Raspberry’s super sweet scent was a bit of a turnoff for me at first (do you remember how Strawberry Shortcake dolls used to smell?), but the texture, which feels like a light body lotion, convinced me to stick it out.
Either in or out of the shower, I’ve been getting really close, bump-free shaves with this cream, and I’m guessing the lotion brings razors in closer contact with the base of each hair than fluffy, foamy shave gels do. Lately after my shaves with EOS my skin has felt smooth, soft and soothed, and I haven’t had any nicks or shave bumps at all using the same kinds of razors I’ve used with other shave creams and gels.
For my fellow vision-impaired girls (I’m blind without my spectacles, yo!), this cream can be hard to see in the shower. The water/heat combo seems to melt it away faster than a traditional uber-foamy shave gel, so if you usually depend on your shave cream to work kinda like a shaving road map, you may have to either work fast in the shower, or momentarily turn off the water to help you see what you’re doing.
My shnozz and I may not see eye (nose?) to eye on the Pomegranate Raspberry version of EOS Evolution, but I like the results. Thankfully EOS created the product in four other fragrances (Lavender Jasmine, Island Blue, Cucumber Melon and Vanilla Bliss), along with a fragrance-free version (HOLLA!).
If you’re interested, I also spotted a three pack available over at target.com for $12. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
jenn says
I have the cucumber melon and have yet to try it dry, but I will now.
Karen says
Hey Jenn,
How’s the scent with that one? Is it sweet?
jenn says
Yeah, its pretty sweet. But not overpowering.
Karen says
Hmm. I probably won’t like it then. When stuff is melony and sweet it makes my tummy churn…
Maybe the unscented is the way to go, LOL!
dani@callitbeauty says
i think i’m the asian version of you, for serious. i too am blind and as for the hair sitch… let’s just say my razor has 5 blades. add to that the fact that my skin’s sensitive (the first stages of hair growth can be painful) and well, sometimes i just don’t think the hassle is worth it.
wish i could try this, but “tar-ghay” doesn’t ship to canada 🙁
Karen says
My razor has five blades too — anything less than that is pretty much useless.
BTW, I’m Asian too (Filipino!).
dani@callitbeauty says
are you, seriously?! so am i! you look latina, actually (which i tend to do too when i’m really tanned. otherwise, i look chinese). nice to see a fellow filipina beauty blogger 🙂
Karen says
Yup! I was born there, but grew up in the Bay.
Nicole says
Hey! I’m not sure where you’re from in Canada, but I’m from southwestern Ontario and I’ve seen this shave cream in Shoppers Drug Mart stores before, in case you’re interested! 🙂
Vanessa H says
The bottle would look so cute in my shower! I may have to try this, because I tend to use the bf’s shaving cream (shhhh, he doesn’t know haha).
Karen says
It’s really cute! I like the rubbery body… don’t have to worry about it leaving rust stains in my shower!
Molly says
I tried EOS a few months back- sooo creamy and nice on my legs, but I had the same blindness prob as you! For a slightly less melty version I really like the Skintimate shave cream, it sticks to my legs a bit better.
Also, you CAN find this in Canada! I got it at Shopper’s Drug Mart for like 5 bucks a few months back.
Karen says
Thanks for the tip for the Canadian babes, Molly! 🙂
Van says
Thanks for the review Karen, I normally do the sensitve skin shave gels, I suffer from the bumps and nicks sometimes no matter how new or how many blades the razor has. I’d like to give this a try and see how close of shave I can get without any irritation. I’m curious about the Island Blue scent, with a name like that I automatically beach paradise 🙂
Karen says
Sure thing, Van. If you end up getting that scent please let me know what you think about it. I’m interested in it too.
Rinnie says
I might need this since I have a tar-ghay shopping trip coming up this weekend and almost out of shaving cream. I love pomegranate in most forms. In no way do I mean to rub this in anyone’s face, but it will literally take me a year to use up a bottle of shaving cream because I shave my legs 1-2 times a month. I’m asian too but am blessed with thin, fine hair on my legs only, other parts not so much. Do you think this would work on men too?
Karen says
Yes! Somebody I chatted with recently mentioned that their dude kept bogarting it because it works so well. 🙂
Rinnie says
Cool! My BF needs a good shave cream and doesn’t quite like the foamy kind
Karen says
He might really like this then. 🙂 Does he like sweet scents? He just might dig the pom one.
Rinnie says
He likes those scents on me, not so sure if he’d like to smell like fruit so I’d get him the unscented kind. Normally he smells like metal b/c he’s a welder.
Karen says
Girl, that’s kinda hot! I wouldn’t mind a boy that smells like metal. It’s better than a boy that smells like beef…
lisa says
I’ve been using this for the past 2 months. I actually like the smell loll. My only thing with it is that I use a lot of product during one application, so one bottle doesn’t last that long for me =[….though I too, am a member of the “Hairy Asian Club”, so I’m sure most of you won’t run out as fast as I did lol.
Karen says
LOL… whoever started the rumor that Asians women are hairless was SO WRONG. I am living proof.
Rachel Taninecz says
I’ve tried this in Vanilla and really liked it – I’m so excited to here it’s at Target now! I originally bought a bottle of this and some lip moisturizers for my girls for x-mas – and their lip products are UGH-mazing!!!
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
Tell me about the Vanilla scent. Is it sweet like this one?
Christy says
I actually saw this at Target but it was not on sale and too pricey for me! If it’s on sale, I’ll def try! I wanted to try since it’s more natural and paraben free!
Karen says
Hi Christy,
I was just there the other day and it was still on sale… maybe they have it marked down in your store too!
Ruchita says
Thanks for reviewing this! I will have to try this next time I need to buy shave cream. I tried a cream from Skintimates (I think that was the brand) and it seemed to form a barrier between the razor and my skin and I didn’t get a smooth, clean shave. I’m glad to hear that is not the case with this product.
I’m blind in the shower too, so I use my hands to feel my skin and make sure everything is smooth.
Luckily I’m not too hairy, but my hair grows back fast. It’s like 5 o’clock shadow on my legs! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
I totally know what you’re talking about. I think it’s the foam…
Are you an everyday shaver? I am, sigh.
Ashley says
EOS shaving cream is available in Shoppers Drug Mart here in Canada. I have yet to try it but I will… after I use up 3 other shaving gels! I tried the EOS lip balms awhile back when I made a useless trip across the border. I’m not a fan of those 🙁 Hopefully the shave creams work out for me.
Karen says
Really? I’ve heard some peeps rave about them. What is it about the balms that you don’t like?
Ashley says
They smell delicious but there’s a but! They aren’t smooth. Simply put, it feels like I’m rubbing candle wax on my lips.
Ashley says
Oh & I hate the packaging! It was cute at first but they hog a lot of room in make up bags or small purses.
Karen says
Ewww!
Nina says
Ive seen that at Target but dont really need it. The bottle was just so pretty to look at so I stopped and ogled.
Ive used their lip balms, and theyre okay …. not great but not bad either.
Karen says
It is very cute. It has a rubbery base, too, which is very handy (no yucky rings in the shower).
You’re the second person to say that about the lip balms. What is it about them that you don’t like?
Nina says
I am a lipbalm addict and for the longest time used it more than lipstick. My faves would be Alba, Burts Bees, Softlips and Yes to Carrots. EOS is okay, the packaging is cute and all that but I find that I need to reapply it more often. It kinda dries out super fast and I havent really felt any moisturizing effects. 🙂
Karen says
Got it. I need a LOT of moisture, too, so I wonder if it’ll work for me.
Burt’s Bees lip balm = <3!!
Nina says
Burts Bees is SUPER <3333333
Softlips really surprised me … its super moisturizing and does not taste or feel waxy at all! 🙂
Karen says
Yeah, that’s why I like them too. I also dig the super-skinny tube, which makes it that much easier to throw into a pocket.
Nina says
Yep … and it has a very slight tinge of color that gives lips a just bitten (or kissed) look. 🙂
Karen says
I have to dig mine out… I had a few sticks but I think I lost them in the move!
Jean says
I wanted to love this so much. But it just didn’t get a close enough shave for me. :\
Karen says
Hi Jean,
Aww, that’s a bummer. What do you currently use now? Do you like it?
Trisha says
Okay…2 bucks on sale? Umm…I’m just going to head over to Target right now…
Also, I think I would love that scent. I like super sweet stuff that smells like dolls and candy. 🙂
Karen says
If I liked the smell I would totally stock up. It’s a good deal.
Twetriz says
Looks like a good product, worth a try!
Karen says
I hope you give it a go.
nikia says
I got a sample of this recently and I didn’t like it! It clogged my razor and it felt like I was putting thick lotion that would not dissolve. Maybe I got a wonky one 🙁
Karen says
Aww, bummer. I didn’t have trubs with the clogging, but then again I always have to shake my razor or tap it agains something after each pass to get rid of the hair.
Kayann says
Oooh! Is it bad that I’m a sucker for pretty packaging… even if it’s simple? I lurve the pink color!!
Karen says
It’s so bright and cheerful, yah?
Michelle says
I will give this a go! I am always trying to find something the help with shaving. I am forever getting redness and bumps on my legs — such a pain when it is summer!
LOL to the Strawberry Shortcake doll scent — I used to have all of those dolls — when I opened the box — a big whiff of faux berry scent came shooting out 🙂
Michelle says
P.S. Do you every get little ingrown hairs on your legs? I need to find a product to help that, too!
Fieran says
Hi Michelle,
I haven’t used it yet (just purchased it off e-Bay) but I’ve heard great reviews of Shobha Ingrown Hair Relief (there’s a good writeup on it on thedailyobsession dot net).
Hope this helps.
Karen says
Not on my hairs, but on my, erm, ladyparts. I use this product I got from the Bath & Body Works True Blue Spa w/salicylic acid a while back to stop the bumps, but I think it’s discontinued. Tend Skin is supposed to be pretty good for preventing ingrowns, and you can find it at most beauty supply stores.
Karen says
Gosh, I remember that scent like it was yesterday. It was SO STRONG. When I was a kid my nose was ever more sensitive, and I remember almost getting sick from the smell.
Carolina says
Oh, Karen or anyone else out there…
Just out of the blue – have you tried Nars Multiple blush/”multitaskers”, What did you think?
I was thinking of getting one (can’t decide) since they seem so…easy to throw in the handbag and therefor perhaps be used a bit more often than I’d do with a regular one (sleepy eyed, in the back of the bus, hunched forward :-D).
Anyhows was just wondering…it it worth the splurge?
Karen says
Hi Carolina,
I have a couple of the duos and love them! My fave is the Orgasm/South Beach duo. Here are some reviews just in case you’re interested:

Gina says
i need to try this! it seems like my hair starts to grow back a few hours after shaving
Karen says
LOL, I think mine actually does… I’m starting to wonder if I’m part werewolf.
Jen says
I live for this shave cream, too! My legs get so dry, and the EOS formula leaves them feeling silky smooth. It’s the only shave cream I’ve ever been able to use successfully without showering first… such a huge bonus for a busy full-time Mom!
Karen says
Hey Jen!
It’s been a while. How have you been? Hope things are going well. 🙂
Ess says
I just ran out of my first tube of this stuff. I love it so much! I liked it better dry, for the simple reason of it staying foamier(word?). My only complaint too was the scent, I will have to keep an eye out for other scents.
Karen says
If you find a good one let me know!
Britney says
I so have ta run out and try this. I have never seen it on the shelves and trust me, I have tried so many different shave gels. Razor bumps are like a norm for me and so want to find something that works and gives that close shave. I actually like the sweet smells. Although, something that smells like shortcake might make me hungry for desert…LOL Gotta stay on the low carb, low sugar diet until I reach my goal weight…LOL Anyway, thanks for the heads up. I am gonna have to go and order some online since there is no tar.(ghay) any where close to me. So need so find something for that super close shave instead of paying for waxing all the time….. UGG.. OOhh the pain…the pain….LOL
Karen says
Hi Britney,
Have you ever considered at-home waxing? When I have the time I like to do it myself (saves so much money). I used the Parissa Hard Wax kit, which works really well.
Britney says
HiYA Karen…
Yes, I have tried waxing on my own, but it is so messy…and takes a LOT of practice….which I definitely need. I suppose I feel like I am just gonna ruin my legs and they will look awful for a while. So afraid of that…. It could be though, that I just need to use a better wax as well. I was told about this Australian wax that the professionals use, but it is so expensive. I would be better off going for electrolysis, but being overseas right now…and not understanding the language makes things so hard…. So I am not sure where ta go. Hopefully, I will be back in Vegas soon and to start. I am taking a few weeks vacation in Honolulu as well. A chance to relax on the beach hopefully…. LOL Hope you had a fabulous day…HUGGS
Karen says
Hi Britney,
Yeah, it took me a while to figure out what waxing tricks worked for me. I started of with a sugar wax (which is rinsable) before moving onto hard wax.
Lucky you to be overseas! I’m so jealous. Is it for work?
Oh, if you want recs of things to do on Oahu let me know. I have family there so I’ve been there quite a few times.
Have a great day!
Britney says
HUGGS Karen,
Yeah… I am overseas for work, so here for a year in S. Korea. It is great though. The people are fantastic and I love to experience new cultures, although this is like my 3rd time here…LOL It is always fun though, and love to travel. As for Hawaii, it is always great to hear of new fun places ta go and all…. I have been there a few times, but never seem to experience as much as I hoped I would have, so absolutely…your ideas are always welcome….and any good nail/beauty salons that you suggest…LOL
As for the waxing, yes…..it is a tricky thing and being overseas means I have to order everything online. They don’t even give a good mani/pedi over here…or at least I haven’t found a good one yet…..so sucks for that…..I love the pampering…. The girl that does my waxing in Vegas told me only to use hard wax, cause it was much easier. It just seems ta take so much and there is only enough to use for like a few waxings… Def a lot cheaper to do it yourself though. I used nair for a short bit, but so hated the way it made my legs feel and the ingrown thing really sucked, so I stopped real quick. Waxing is great cause I can go for a week or more, but then have to wait for the hair to grow out in order to wax agian… hate seeing hairy legs..might just be me though…not sure… Anyway, hope ur day is beautiful…stay gorgeous…
Vanessa says
I own one in Vanilla Bliss. Although I’m not too fond of the scent (there wasn’t an unscented version at the time I bought one), I like the way it works on my skin vs the foamy shave gels.
Karen says
That was one of the scents I was thinking about getting. What is it about the scent that you don’t like? Is it too sugary?
Tiffany says
sounds cool! I never would have thought of shaving dry…
Karen says
It’s really convenient on days when you put on shorts, dress or a tanktop and realize WHOA… hair!
Steph B says
I tried the vanilla and didn’t like it at all. It didn’t seem to give enough slip as I moved the razor over the skin. It felt a little like I was shaving without enough shave gel and I was going to get razor burn (I didn’t). So I doubled, tripled, and quadrupled the amount I was using and it didn’t help. I also had sight problems if I was showering without my contacts. The scent was a little heavy and sweet but thankfully didn’t linger long. I didn’t bother finishing the bottle before I went out and bought another Kiss My Face shave cream.
Karen says
How is the Kiss My Face stuff? Does it have a similar lotion-y consistency?
Steph B says
It is a lotion but thicker. It doesn’t dissolve on contact with water like the EOS so I can see where it is. Definitely feels moisturizing and the razor glides effortlessly over your skin. I come back to it time and again. Right now I’m using the Key Lime scent but I generally use the unscented because I prefer the smell of the various body washes that keep showing up in my shower. I’m not sure how they all get there. 🙂
Karen says
Hmm. I will have to investigate. I wouldn’t mind a thicker lotion at all.
Steph B says
Their website usually has good coupons http://www.kissmyface.com
I got a $2 off one before buying my last container.
Karen says
Awesome! Thank you!
Sophia says
OMG I bought this last week. It was totally meant to be. 🙂
Karen says
Spooky! 🙂 Did you get the same “flavor”?
lo says
Hmmm, unscented sounds like it’s calling my name, but I’ll definitely have to sniff them all to be sure 😉 With dry shaves, do you still have to rinse your legs off afterwards, or can you just wipe them off and go? If it’s the latter, that would definitely save time in the morning if I forgot/was too lazy to shave the night before!
Karen says
Hi Lo,
I just wipe ’em off and go.
lo says
Niiiiiiiiiice! Definitely adding this to my weekly shopping list!
Karen says
Oh good! I hope you like it. 🙂
Diana says
I picked this up a few months ago and also think that the smell is too sweet. I haven’t tried it dry yet, but I’m not really liking the product.
I am in love with Whish Shave Crave and thought this would be a less expensive alternative but it doesn’t come close. For anyone who is willing to spend the extra money, I would def recommend the Shave Crave by Whish. I have never had such a close and smooth shave!
BlovetBeauty says
I would get this just for the lovely pink bottle!
Karen says
Yah, it’s super cute. 🙂
Mary says
My Target is made of fail, they don’t have this or the EOS spherical lip balm 🙁
Karen says
Aww, bummer! 🙁 If you’re curious enough they sell them online…
Lee says
Hey Karen 🙂
The vanilla one sounds yumuummmmm ill have 2 try that 4 sure 🙂
And the fact u got no bumps sounds great! I pretty much always get them, i think it has something 2 do with the fact that my razors pretty much go blunt half way through one leg lol
Whens the next open thread due? 🙂 hehe
I have an AWESOME facial trick thats so easy and its pretty much changed my life lol and i have skin that breaks out often and with this i havent 🙂 Its just 2 simple things from ur pantry at home 🙂
Karen says
Hi Lee,
The next open thread is on Sunday! 🙂
Lee says
Oh by the way guys, has anyone here tried using an epilator???
I have one it was a Braun one about $290Australian dollars and it was the top of the line one from this shop we have called Shaver Shop, it came with some adaptors 2 make it less painful, but i have 2 say really its not even painful, it MIGHT be 4 about 30 seconds when u start but that goes ( or u get used 2 it lol ) and u just stretch out ur skin while ur doing it like u would pulling a wax strip off!
I totally recommend an epilator 4 EVERYONE, u might get some bumps the first couple times but they go down after a couple hrs and ur legs stay smooth for atleast a couple wks 🙂 Well mine do and if i shave theyre back by the end of the day lol
If ur gonna get one its worth spending a bit more 4 the top of the range ones 🙂
Karen says
Hi Lee,
Thanks for the mini-review! 🙂
Jenny says
I picked this up last night at Walgreens for a few bucks. Tried it, and I really like the shave I was able to get while using it. The pomegranate scent is a bit sickly sweet for me so I think I’ll go back and sniff out a few of the other scents when I use this one up. I’m holding myself back since the Walgreens is literally across the street from me. If I create a “real” reason to go I’ll come back with the entire cosmetics department… again.
Karen says
I used to work within a five minute walking distance of THREE Walgreens stores when I worked in downtown SF. I was there practically every day for, um, retail therapy! 😀 I
Amber says
I use male razors because my hair is so coarse. Oh well, at least it means my hair won’t be thin when I get old.
Karen says
I used to them back in the day. The razors for women have come a long way, though, so I use those now (they’re prettier to look at, LOL!).
Salvinia says
I love this stuff and used to use it all the time, but it’s not available in Australia! Boo!
Karen says
Hi Salvinia,
What scents did you use and like? I hope I can find one that my nose likes.
Salvinia says
I liked the pomegranate, island blue and vanilla bliss (never been a huge fan of cucumber melon!). I didn’t have a problem with the way any of those ones smelled, but I am rarely bothered by scents. I’d say the vanilla one was the least overpowering, though.
Now that I live in Australia I use this men’s shave gel that smells really minty and eucalyptus-y, I actually really like it!
Kim says
This sounds pretty interesting. I really like the “grip” indents in the bottle too. Nice feature for the shower. 🙂
Karen says
The bottle is actually one of my fave things about it. 🙂 It’s rubbery, there’s no need to worry about rust rings in your shower.
UrbanGlamGyrl says
i love this shave cream and the fact that it’s paraben free! so far the only scent that i can find in any of my local Target stores is the pomegranate rasberry, but i don’t mind the sweetness of it. i like most sweet scents. it does have a tendency to melt away very quick, but i usually just add a bit more. it does leave my legs feeling very smooth and i have not experienced any bumping either. i’m totally in love with this shave cream! i want to try the other scents and their lip balms too.
amy says
This smells very divine, like a a fruit punch.
Karen says
It’s very sweet!
Elizabeth McIntyre says
dear karen, i just had all four of my wisdom teeth out, and am laying home in bed, and I’d just really like to say that your humorous and witty posts never fail to cheer me up! thanks, bb.
Jess says
I hadn’t heard about eos. I just bought it because of the pretty pink bottle and it was cheaper than all the other shave creams on the shelf. I’m glad i got it. It smells delicious, and i dont have to put my nose to the bottle to smell it. And its not too thick.
Jessica says
I got this a while back because I vastly prefer lotion shaving creams to the foam, and I got a 2-pack on sale for $4! The only two things I don’t like is that the raspberry scent is a little cloying, and the pump on the bottle stops dispensing even when there is still quite a bit of product left in it. It isn’t so convenient to have to stop and shake the bottle up, then open it up and dump it in my hand instead of just using the pump! I will have to see if any of the other scents appeal to me. I love how smooth and soft my legs are, and the cream irritates my super sensitive skin a lot less than other products.
Tracey says
I am a HUGE EOS fan. Love the shave cream and lip balms. I use the balm at night before bed along with ELF’s balm and I have very kissable lips. No one to kiss them but best to always be prepared. Try the balms Karen. For only $3.50 they are worth a shot. 🙂 Shave cream is just amazing and love it. Won’t use anything else now. Smooth shave every time. 🙂
Nicole says
I tried this in the lavander and jasmine scent, which is nice, very light and pretty smelling. Gotta say, I think this is my new favorite shave cream. My nicks and cuts were noticeably fewer, and I feel so much smoother. I cant find it at my Target up here (I live in the Midwest), but it is at Walgreens!
Leslie says
Thanks so much for this review Karen, I was semi interested in trying this product out, but after reading your review I think i’ll give it shot.
paige says
i LOVE the lavender one. sadly i live in a small town where our walmarts only carry the pomegranate and the lavender, but the lavender is oh-so fantastic! :] glad to see someone else was impressed with this product like i was.
