At Bliss the other day, my friend Jen insisted that I pick up a bottle of her holy grail eye makeup remover, Bliss Lid+Lash Wash ($14).
Infused with soothing chamomile extract, it’s a gentle, no-rinse gel makeup remover for erasing makeup from the eyelid, lash and lip area. I’ve been using it for a couple days now and can see why Jen’s obsessed.
The oil-free formula removes everything — even waterproof makeup! — and does it fast, without stripping my skin or stinging my eyes. I’ve noticed that after using it my eyes look less puffy, too. I wonder if that’s the chamomile extract at work, hmm…
Bliss Lid+Lash Wash
Price: $14 for a 4.2-oz bottle
Use: An oil-free, non-irritating gel makeup remover for eyes and lips
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
I like that it’s a gel. The consistency keeps it from spilling all over the place, and I can even see myself using this in cramped quarters.
The best part is the price! It costs half as much as Decleor Eye Makeup Remover Gel ($28), an effective but much more expensive gel makeup remover that I’d been lovin’ on until Jen suggested this. Yay for saving moolah!
Viva la vino
Yesterday El Hub and I drove the 40 miles north to Napa Valley to celebrate our third wedding anniversary with a few hours of wine tasting and walking around. We stopped to have lunch in Yountville, one of the small towns up there, at a place called Bistro Jeanty.
The food was lick-yo-fingers delicious! I had two dishes — a green bean salad and their filet of sole with lemons and capers. I gobbled both up with a quickness and even stole some of El Hub’s chicken and mushroom stew (in a bacon-red wine sauce, freaking yum!).
Just thinking about it now makes me drool…
I think it’s funny to post pictures of food…
But I couldn’t resist…
If you’re ever in wine country, you could do a lot worse than Bistro Jeanty. It’s not too expensive, and they do take walk-ins, but try to make reservations for the patio, which is covered and has plenty of shade.
Yountville, like a lot of the small towns in Napa Valley, is a relaxing and romantic way to spend a few hours on a sunny afternoon. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Aw, that sounds like such a wonderful little outing! Happy Anniversary to you both 🙂
This Bliss make up remover sounds good and $14 makes it sound even better. I may try to pick this up next time I stop by at Sephora.
Karen says
Hi Stephie,
Thank you very much! 🙂
Yes, $14 is pretty darn affordable, especially in comparison to other Bliss products, which can be quite pricy. I hope you try it!

Innnteresting. Would you be able to compare its effectiveness to Lancome Bi-Facil by any chance? (My HG eye makeup remover, but way too expensive for me to be buying). If not, that’s cool, I may still look into this…
Happy Anniversary!!! You look so gorgeous in that picture!
Karen says
Hi Jenna,
Thank you! 🙂
Regarding Bi-Facil, I’ve tried both and think they work similarly in terms of makeup removal. Bi-Facil would probably be a slightly better multi-tasker, as the liquid works better to quickly remove makeup mistakes better than the Bliss one does (the gel tends to get all over the place and isn’t as good for spot cleaning). I think Bliss is more soothing, though, and does much more in the de-puffing department.

Awww, happy anniversary! And yay for yummy food! You look so happy in that picture! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Thank you very much! 🙂
I can’t believe it’s been three years already. They’ve gone by so fast.
Anyway, do you ever make it up to Napa? I think it’s my new favorite place to go!

Hi Paris B,
Thank you! It was a perfect way to spend a Sunday. Maybe someday you’ll make it out here to Northern California to visit wine country… hey, ya never know!

Happy Anniversary Karen!
That lunch sounds awesome, hope you had a fun day and night 😉 hahhahh
Btw I tried the Lancome Bifacils eye make-up remover based on your recommendation and I love it!! It’s light and non-greasy enough to use to correct make-up mistakes in the morning. Now I think my next one will be this Bliss one. I have always hesitated to buy their products… not quite sure if they are worth the money, you know.. What is your opinion on their other stuff?
Karen says
Hi Merylynmagic,
Bi-facil is fantastic for cleaning up makeup mistakes! It’s still one of my favorite removers.
I think this Bliss one is better for times when you need complete eye makeup remover. Maybe try it to supplement your Bi-Facil for the days when your eyes are puffy and need some extra TLC. 🙂
Anyway, as for other Bliss stuff, I really like their body care products. Their lotions have rich textures and wonderful scents, even though they’re quite pricy. The scrubs are great, too. I haven’t tried a lot of their face items, but I’ve heard good things about the Steep Clean mask.

happy anniversary!
little bistros totally are the shiznit. east end of my town is crammed with them (french/latin/italian quarter of montreal). gotta love the wine+good food!
bliss products are nice but it’s hard to find them since our only sephora is located 30 minutes away in the middle of nowhere, by car – being a starving student = no car, and thus no sephora, boo hoo!
now if i can convince my friend to drive me there, maybe i’ll try out this gel… i’m always looking for non-icky ways to remove makeup!

Hi Karen, happy anniversary! Before you know it, you’d be celebrating 20th anniversary.

Hi Pia,
Thank you! 🙂 Maybe in 20 years I’ll still be blogging… ya never know, right?
I hope that your week is off to a great start!

What a cute little place to eat. Uh, that filet of sole dish has my mouth watering..YUM!! Happy Anniversary! My hubby and I just had our 3 year at the end of May. The time really does just fly by.
Karen says
Hi Nicole15,
It was SOOO good. There’s mashed potatoes up in there, too. Gah, carbs are my friend.
Congrats on your three year! Did you guys do anything special to celebrate?

Happy Anniversary!
I love the bliss remover. I ended up getting it on a “fluke” when the Seph was out of clinique. Also try it after it being in the fridge, the coolness is a great wake me up when removing remnants in the morning. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Stacie,
Oh, I’ll try that for sure. It’s in the fridge right now…

Happy anniversary! I love going to Yountville to relax and have some good food when I’m in Napa. I’ve passed by Bistro Jeanty when I was there last but I’ve never tried it (Have you ever tried Bouchon? I’ve heard it’s wonderful). I have to go once I get a chance to come out to the Bay Area again!
Glosslizard says
Very occasionally, but I intend to get up there more often in the future!

Karen,
For our 3 year we just had a date night with dinner & a movie close to home. It was nice just to get some time to ourselves without the kiddies for a little bit. 🙂

Awwww. That’s so sweet!

Hi Karen! I was a little surprised to see this picture of Bistro Jeanty on your blog! I live in St. Helena and my boyfriend lives in Yountville. I hope you enjoyed it and continue to come back to the valley for more wine and fabulous cuisine. Another suggestion for dining in Yountville; Bouchon. Not sure if you’ve been there before, but it is divine. The steak there is the best I’ve ever had. What wineries did you go to?

Hi Danielle,
Thank you for the recommendation. I will definitely put Bouchon on my list!
We went to two wineries — Freemark Abbey and another one which I can’t remember the name off (oops, too many glasses of wine!). Freemark Abbey was great. The wine guy totally hooked us up and threw in a few generous freebies with our flight.
I’d love a few more recommendations! What are your favorite wineries and spas in the areas? Restaurant recs would be fab, too. 🙂 Yay, Napa!

Great recommendation. I picked up a sample at Sephora today and am trying it now. And man! I think I like! 🙂
