Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy? Please tell me that I’m not hallucinating and that these colorful new gel liners and mascaras by Benefit are not mere makeup figments of my imagination.
Are they fake…? Did I dream up this whole blue/green/purple situation? Please pinch me because I need to know if They’re Real.
OUCH!
OK…you did not have to pinch me that hard. 🙂
Benefit has some new liners and mascaras, and they aren’t figments of my imagination or yours, nor are you currently floating on pink cotton candy clouds.
These are very, very real, and they’re available on counters and online right now.
The line recently added two new $24 shades of They’re Real Mascara (Beyond Brown and Beyond Blue) and four new $24 shades of They’re Real Push-Up Liner (Beyond Brown, Beyond Blue, Beyond Purple and Beyond Green, $24) to their permanent collection.
So. Much. Color!
They’re Real Mascara in Beyond Brown and Beyond Blue
The two new shades of mascara join Benefit’s original They’re Real.
Not gonna lie, I’m all about that blue one…
You don’t understand! Trying to find a true blue mascara — one that you don’t have to do a ton of trickery or layering with to actually see the blue color — has been like trying to find a rainbow unicorn (i.e. hard).
This one is a beautiful bright blue, and it even looks vibrant with just one or two coats. Great curl hold and separation, too (although I could go for more volume). Unless you only wear black mascara, chances are you will LOVE this.
As for the new brown shade, eh… I’m just not that into it. I have black lashes, and this brown, like most brown mascaras, doesn’t do sh*t for me.
It is really brown, though, if that’s your thing.
They’re Real Push-Up Liners in Beyond Brown, Beyond Blue, Beyond Purple and Beyond Green
These new gel liners are basically the same deal as the original They’re Real Push Up Liner released last year, but in different shades. Same click pens and rubber nib packaging. You just twist the bottom of the pen, and the gel comes out of the flexible plastic nib. Then line your lash lines and par-tay.
Now, I don’t know if I’m just all thumbs, but I always have a tough time with this kind of packaging. It’s so hard to draw smooth edges and sharp flicks with these pens, so what I usually do is put a bit of the product on the back of my hand, and then I’ll use either an angled or a pointed eyeliner brush to apply it from there to my lash lines.
Also, when I work with this liner, I move FAST — like 60 seconds or less, because the formula dries quicker than you can text, “Let’s go to the 5:30 showing of Magic Mike XXL tonight!”
In other words, you don’t have a lot of time to play, so hustle dat booty when you work with it, because when it sets, it doesn’t move. It’s so tough and long lasting that it might as well be waterproof. I even have to use an oil-based makeup remover with it.
As for the new colors, I love the green, because it’s bright and smooth, and same goes for the purple. But the brown and blue — which is more of a blackish navy — go on a little patchy.

According to the Benefit MUA at my local Ulta, the liner has also been reformulated. She confessed that she hated the orinial They’re Real liner and that the brand tweaked the formula for this new release, not just for the new shades but also the black one.
For me the packaging just doesn’t seem to work (same is true with the similar Smashbox liner) so new formula or not, I’ll pass.

I want purple They’re Real mascara!

Thanks for the tip with the they’re real liner! I was hesitant to buy it because I had heard that it was pretty tough to work with. Luckily Ulta offered a free mini brown they’re real liner. The pigmentation is great, but I could not for the life of me get a smooth line!

This blue mascara is BLUE! I bought a tube for myself and my 12 year old daughter today. Totally appropriate for both of us! It’s a wearable blue, I’m in love!
Erin says
Maybe use the brown mascara for your brows!

Wow, that blue mascara is incredible! I have to get my hands on some of that. I wish they’d done a purple and green to match the liners.

I couldn’t get along with the eyeliner, it was just so fussy… It’s a shame because the new shades look really pretty, especially Beyond Blue and Purple.

The black mascara is my HG. In fact, after yesterday’s post I realized that it’s time to purchase a new tube. No matter how many other brands I try, the Benefit mascara is the one I go running back to. The colors seem fun enough but I’ll pass. Unless of course I’m going out for a night on the town for dinner & dancing (which I actually need to do)!

Cool!!
I’m so crazy with my eyeshadow colors tho, I will stick to black mascara.
I love your earrings.

I really didn’t dig the packaging for the liner. I bought a mini of the mascara, though, because that looks intriguing.

Ha, any post starting with Queen is a great one. Even if it is about the Benefit stuff. I absolutely did not get on with the original one, so I don’t think I will try any of these.Or are they absolutely different to the original?

I love the colors but I got the free mini from Ulta and frankly I haven’t even tried it yet because I coudlnt’ even get a smooth line on my hand. LOL I like your idea of using a brush but then that kind of defeats the purpose.
ANYwho… that blue mascara looks really pretty. I used to use navy on my bottom lashes to make the whites of my eyes look whiter.

The brown, blue and the purple look gorgeous, I have to check these out, I hope they are better than the new ones by Smashbox (I dI might try the brownd not like those).
When I first heard about the blue mascara I was interested but now that I see it on you i know that it is much too vibrant for me, I might try the brown one.

I don’t know what happened with my comment above?
the last part of the first paragraph was supposed to read (I did not like those).

I have the samples sizes of the traditional black in both of these. You know I’m very particular about my mascara so I wasn’t thrilled with this one (as far as volumizing goes). I have yet to try the liner. You’d warned me that it was tricky and I haven’t had the extra time to play AKA fix the awful mess I’m sure to make with it. HAHA!

Those colors doe! I love the navy, purple and green and the look you created with them is just too fierce. You nailed it! I still haven’t tried the Push Up liner yet but I have my eye on that navy one..
