With Rockateur, Benefit’s Box O’ Powder line is expanding! (like my husky tabby’s waistline/kitty empire) — while simultaneously shrinking over time…
Stardate: 2008. Bene-babes were bringing home their Boxes O’ Powder, like the lovely Coralista, for $28 each, but they were getting 0.42 ounces of product.
Fast forward five years to today…
We’re all driving hover cars, our greatest scientists are cats, and most of the brand’s powders still cost $28! — except that now they contain just 0.28 ounces of product (with the exception of Thrrrob, which still comes with the same 0.42 ounces for some reason).
Stranger still, the new Rockateur is even smaller, containing just 0.17 ounces of powder.
Hmm…
Could this mean that all of Benefit’s Boxes O’ Powder will shrink over time without a drop in price? I don’t know (but I hope not).
Thankfully, Rockateur’s small stature doesn’t take anything away from the blush itself, a lovely neutral rosy gold with shimmer. More of a light peachy coral pink on my tan skin, it should look even brighter and more intense on lighter and medium skin tones.
It reminds me a lot of Benefit Sugarbomb, but with less coral and much more pink. I’m wearing two layers to really convey the color in these pics, but one layer works just fine for heading out and lasts through an eight-hour day.
Texture-wise, Rockateur is one of the softest and smoothest in the Box O’ line, with a consistency that feels almost creamy. Nice.
Is it a showstopper? Well, on my skin, perhaps not. I like it, but I think I do like Dallas and Coralista more. Lighter lovelies may benefit more from Benefit Rockateur than I do.
PRICE: $28 for a 0.17-ounce box

Looks really pretty!
Unfortunately I live in Australia, where the Box O’ Powders cost $51 each! Absolute rip off (especially when our AUD was on par with the USD).

I haven’t tried it, but it looks great on you! Can’t wait to get my hands on it <3

Looks fab and I think I’d really really like this, but I’m not going to get it because the insanely tiny content for the same high high price, really got to me.

The color looks really nice, but the price, too much I think.

I was literally just thinking about this blush and was looking up swatches of it! Heheh, it looks so lovely. I think this is going to be my first Benefit blush!

I am now dying to get this. Initially I didn’t think I was going to like it, but all of these blog posts have changed my mind!

I’m devoted to Hoola, Dandelion and Hervana, but feel that the huge reduction in size is greedy.

Hi Karen,
I love how Benefit Rockateur leans more pink than Coralista! What a flattering color 🙂

Love Benefit, love their sassy attitude but the sneaky price increase is unacceptable. These blushes are $36/cdn (ridiculous, I know!) so for that I’d rather go buy more Chanel, Dior, Guerlain, Burberry and Armani now. Sorry Benefit, but now you’re just another greedy corporate sneak. I have little choice with the sneaky price increases with my food and household goods but I don’t *NEED* this blush.

I’ve noticed the amount of product has become less and less without a drop in price and I refuse to buy the new box ‘o powders. The ones I’ve tried seem to be a bit sheer as well so I’m not a big fan.

Thank you for the honest review, Karen! I have to say, I’m really not pleased with the way Benefit has taken down the amount of product in their boxed blushes over time — $36 CAD is a lot to pay for a blush, and I bet your average consumer has no idea that the box is 98% empty space.
As pretty as this blush is, I kind of hope beauty lovers will skip it on principle. Someone needs to show Benefit that sneakily shrinking down their products is NOT okay! 🙁

Pretty color, but I won’t buy, I need to not buy as much makeup (although I do have some Sephora returns to make).

I am SO looking forward trying Rockateur! I keep seeing wonderful reviews but it hasn’t arrived in Spain yet, whyyyyyyy 🙁 🙁

Going to swatch this when I have a chance. I never hit pan on my blushes anyway but I could see wanting value for your money.

It’s a nice color. 🙂 I think I really noticed the downsizing trend with cereal a few years ago. Everyone was so afraid of losing share by raising prices that they held the price but downsized the product. I suppose it made sense since shipping costs were a big driver. Sadly, with makeup, I’d guess most of the cost is in the packaging so downsizing the product probably doesn’t save them much. 🙁

Thanks for reviewing this. I saw it on another blog and the blogger was lighter than you. I agree this (like just about all their blushes) would be better for a lighter person. I’ll definitely pass (although I may swatch it out of curiosity).
