I highly recommend that you roll your R’s when you say the name of BECCA’s new crimson tinged $40 Ombre Rouge eyeshadow palette like so: “Ombre Rrrrrrrrrrouge. Rrrrrrr-ooooo-uge.”
Why?
BECAUSE IT’S FUN. That’s why. That’s the main reason. And, also, because rolling the R makes the palette seem extra rouge-y, and therefore extra fancy.
Yes, this is irrelevant to most important, thought-provoking aspects of real life, but like I said…IT’S FUN, and this is makeup we’re talking about (not rocket science).
Don’t be scurred, intrepid eye palette addict! All of the shades in this five-pan palette of powder eyeshadows may be tinged with red, but they aren’t straight-up reds, so you won’t be left with your brush in the air wondering, “What the heck am I gonna do with these?” They’re still very wearable and useful.
They’re also warmer and richer than the cool browns in BECCA’s Ombre Nudes Palette, and consequently interesting and different.
The idea is to contour, sculpt and brighten your eyes using gradients with the five shades in BECCA Ombre Rouge, which have both warm and cool undertones to make them workable on a wide range of skin tones.
BECCA even added a primer to the formula, as well as coffee oil to make the shadows feel smoother, but they kept out the fragrances, parabens, sulfates and pthalates.
The palette is new and available now online and at BECCA counters, Sephora and Ulta in the permanent line.
Based on the original Ombre Nudes palette, I had high hopes for this one, and BECCA did not let me down. I’m able to weave the colors into each other with a few swipes of my blending brush and can do so without having to contend with fallout.
Even though the shadows are supposed to contain their own primer, I haven’t tried them without a separate primer yet (using a little NARS Pro-Prime is an ingrained makeup habit!), and I think that Ombre Rouge just might be able to handle my combination dry/oily lids on its own. In fact, when I wore it the other day under Pro-Prime, the shadows looked as good as new after eight full hours.
That’s promising.
The only thing is…you kind of have to accept when using this palette that all of the shades are going to blend together to a degree, meaning that they end up not looking very distinct, but if you, like me, get all slack-jawed at the thought of super blended, super blown-out eyeshadow (and you’re into reddish tones and slim cases that travel well), I think it’s totally worth a few swipes next time you visit Sephora or Ulta.
PRICE: $40 for five 0.05-oz. pans
AVAILABILITY: Newly added to the permanent line and available now online and at BECCA counters, Sephora and Ulta

Hi Karen, I think this palette is gorgeous and I’m really really tempted to get it! And the look you created is stunning!!
Karen says
These colors should look amazing with your blue eyes, Agata!
Lauren says
This is actually a gorgeous pallette! Gonna have to get it!!
Does the coffee oil in the formula spoil your detox off of caffeine?! 😉
Karen says
LOL, Lauren! Funny because I thought of that today too. And I also wanted to eat a Cafe Latte lollipop from See’s but I thought, “Hmmm… Does this have caffeine? Probably shouldn’t eat it.”
Hope you had a nice Tuesday. Mine was loooong. I just finished running and after I shower I plan to kick back with a book. 🙂
Lauren says
You’d be buzzing lime crazy if you’d had that lollipo! :-D. How is the no caffeine going?? I need to cut back…I’m sleeping horribly!
My Tuesday was also neverending! Here’s to today being a much better day for us!!

Oh, I had such high hopes for this one. And I do like it better than the first. But I’m afraid that only 2 of the shadows will work for me. And I love reddish browns as transition colors. Think a “quick” trip to Ulta or Sephora might be in store. Get it? “In store” to the store. Lol. Pretty lame, I admit. But I couldn’t resist. 🙂

You know I love me some cheesy puns! LOL!
If you love reddish browns you MUST get MAC Embark in your life ASAP. (Do you have it yet?)
Kwmechelle says
Nope, not yet anyway. It’s on my wish list. I’ve got about 10-12 matte MAC shadows on my wish list. I figured since no one’s made an all matte palette for me, then I’ll make one for myself (as if I needed an excuse 🙂
Karen says
It’s a beauty. A deep reddish brown! When you finally make your all-matte palette you’ll have to give me a list of your colors. Inquiring minds will want to know!
Kwmechelle says
Deal! Hint- many of them I learned of from your blog 🙂
Mattie says
“Ombre Rrrrrrrrrrouge!” That IS fun to say! I remember the original palette, and I loved it—I’ll have to check this out. Your eyes look soooo bright and beautiful!
Karen says
Isn’t it though?! Roll those rrrrrrs, girl!
Are you a BECCA fan, Mattie?

I’ve been eyeing this palette for a while. I didn’t realize it was permanent so now I don’t feel like I have to rush out and get it. I was a little hesitant about the reddish tones but seeing it on you it looks so pretty and not scary at all. I only just tried Becca for the first time a couple months ago and am loving the brand. I’m currently waiting for my first blush to come in the mail any day now!
Ashleigh says
I snagged this up as soon as it launched! It’s perfection for me. These colors are even more beautiful in person, I think. Plus it fits in my travel makeup bag with plenty of room for my other makeup. 🙂 I didn’t know they had primer built in, I’ll have to test them one of these days without primer.
Kim says
I always seem to gravitate toward neutrals in pink/red so I think this palette is beautiful. Of course, I think everything from Becca is beautiful. 🙂

Hi Karen!
Loooooove your blog and definitely love the Becca palette. It reminded me of Prescriptives (probably can tell how old I am, just for mentioning this brand 😉 )cosmetics. They used to have this color categories, I was a yellow, but always was drawn to the red category products. This Becca palette did not disappoint me and I love it.

That brown in there strikes a discordant note.

I have been reading your blog foooorever, and we have the same skin color. So, today I went to Sephora and I bought this palette. They didn’t have the tester though, but they had it!!!!!! so I came home with it, and I put it on, however now it is too late to see with daylight to see the real colors in my eyes, hehehe. Could you please please please please do a tutorial with this palette in youtube, I LOVE the one you created here!!!!!!!
Now I am thinking in buying the mineral blushes Songbird and Flowerchild based on how good they look on you. Thanks Karen!
